My favorite thing was the Ceviche Pisco Bar, their house special ceviche with shrimp and fish marinated in the leche de tigre topped with fried calamari. The crunch of the hot and savory calamari was the perfect counterpoint to the cold and sour ceviche. The chicken paella was good but the ribs only standard and left me wishing I had ordered a more traditional Peruvian dish. The pisco sour flight was a great choice and the maracuya, strawberry and chicha were refreshing with the maracuya being the best. I'm Into Perú Formerly known as "Sipan Perúvian," Pisco Bar has undergone an ownership/mgmt change sometime in July (according to County records) and is now owned by the same folks who run Puerto 27 in Pacifica. Along with the ownership change comes a new freshly curated menu that focuses more on fresh seafood and ceviches, but still has a lot of the Perúvian standards (e.g., Lomo Saltado, Arroz Chaufa, etc.) that we have come to expect. To go along with this new menu they've also refined their bar menu to focus on different variations of the eponymous Pisco Sour--the official cocktail of Perú!--as well as other Latin cocktails and a decent selection of beers on draught. The Good: *The Serrano Pisco Sour was delicious! It had the right balance of sweet, sour--and you could def taste the serrano without too much of the spiciness. Mind you, I'm no expert on whether it was a proper Pisco, but I do know what's delicious, and this fits the bill. *Really love the ambiance and feel of the place--especially the charming hummingbird mural in the main dining room. *The Empenada app was lip-smackingly good. The crust was tender, flaky and crisp. The Empenadas have three different fillings: beef, chicken and mushroom-spinach filling. While all three were fantastic, I found the beef and the mushroom-spinach to be my favorites. *Paella was fantastic and filled with flavor and fish. One of those dishes where it was incredibly moreish, and I couldn't stop eating it. *Carissa enjoyed her Salmon a la Parilla, and we were both shocked that they actually asked how we wanted the fish cooked?! :-O Medium, please, and it was just right. *All their drinks were not shy on the alcohol. *Outdoor dining *Street parking is a little hinky, but fortunately, the City of Saratoga has a lot of private lots for these businesses along Big Basin Wy. The Meh: *Service was fine but just not overly friendly, which is whatever. I mean, he did his job well but was just missing that verve a great waiter/waitress brings to the table. The Ugly: *While not shy on the alcoholic goodness, the Margarita was not very well-balanced and just not that good. It's a new place and we enjoyed every dish! The service is also attentive. Though it's called Pisco Bar now, the predecessor is another Peruvian restaurant called Sipan. Not sure if they actually changed owner as the receipt still shows Sipan. We ordered 4 items to try and they all tasted great with their own flavors. -Empanadas: This came first and is perfect as a kids' meal. $12 for 3, chicken, beef and mushroom fillings. The wrap is crispy and not overly doughy, the fillings are flavorful and warm and juicy. -Copa de Mariscos Pisco bar: Somehow we thought it's a soup but it's not. It's ceviche at the bottom with fried seafood on top. There are a variety of seafood and I like how they fried them; lightly coated and not overly thick with batter. It's a good and balanced mix with good fried food texture. The ceviche at the bottom is wonderful, not overly acidic. It's the best ceviche we've had so far. -Paella Pisco Bar: calamari ink paella with a piece of fried fish on top and mayo and raw purple onions. The rice is flavorful and it's mixed with octopus, shrimp and mussel seafood inside. It's interesting that they put mayo on top though it of course tastes good with anything. -Chuleta Ahumada: smoked pork chop with pumpkin stew. It's not spicy and great for kids also. The pumpkin stew is so rich and flavorful, the pork chop looks and tasted smoked but the meat is not overly dry. Overall all things tasted great. And we didn't get to dry the beverages. The purple corn drink Chicha Morada looks interesting and it comes in a full size glass. We'll be back next time to try out other dishes. read more

We came by for some snacks and drinks in the early evening, before dinner time. The place was pretty empty at the time so we had our choice of seats (at the bar vs at a table). They had a good selection of cocktail options, including a pisco sour flight (choose 3 flavor options). For food, we got the empanadas and the ceviche classico and the fish of the day was a white fish. The piscos were definitely very tasty, I particularly liked the maracuya (passion fruit) and strawberry flavors. The empanadas were solid, a good medium size with a nice savory filling. While I enjoyed the ceviche, I feel that the fish was cut into very large pieces and was too thick, which made it hard to eat as ceviche with chips (it would either break my chip or fall off completely). That said, the fish was very fresh and the overall taste was good. This is a nice Peruvian restaurant & bar in downtown Saratoga. They have a very large interior so great for group gatherings. Food is good! We loved the paella, anticuchos are fantastic. Taste like Peru. However, the service is horrible and the staff is rude. They don't adhere to their posted open hours. Their new breakfast hours start 7am. We tried to go last week but no one was there! Closed even though sign says open out front. At 8:30am today we wanted to give them another go for their new breakfast menu with our two kids. Everyone was excited! Upon arrival, all the lights were on and the open sign was on. Three presumably staff members were sitting in the front window by the door eating breakfast themselves. I asked if they're open and could we take a seat outside? The only one who got up first rolled his eyes directly at me and made an annoyed face. It felt like serving us breakfast was the last thing on earth he wanted to do. With many options, we went elsewhere. Unfortunately, the food is good but they definitely don't treat their customers with hospitality!! Sorry, Pisco Bar. Came here with my husband last Sunday night. We made a reservation, but when we showed up, the reservation didn't matter and they said sit anywhere. We sat down and didn't get greeted at al for 10-15 minutes, and I saw another table get greeted seated after us. I had to find someone and then they came by. Gave us literally 5 chips and a ramekin of salsa. We ordered and after 40 minutes of ordered, we noticed a few big tables near us. No one was eating, then the big table got their food. We were shocked. We thought all these tables were done eating and hanging out having drinks. No, the whole restaurant was waiting for their food. We asked how long the food would take, another 15 minutes. Nope! We left. As we left we saw another couple where the husband was arguing with the waiter how come things were taking so long. Unacceptable. I didn't believe the food was coming out in 15 when several other tables before us were just waiting. There was no notice that things were slow. They must have had one cook, because there's no other reason for things to be so slow. None of the waiters really cared about anything. Flies on the window, table felt sticky. Glad we left. Avoid this place. Broken glass in cocktail with AWFUL restaurant response. Date: 6/8/24 We called to make reservations for a group of 6 at 6pm but was told there was a rehearsal dinner going on at that time and asked for us to come in at 7pm instead. Sure, no problem. We arrived at 7pm only to be informed that there would be a 20minute delay for food which was okay with us because we planned to have some drinks before our meal anyways. We quickly order drinks and our meal with a very friendly server (she was the highlight of the evening by far). Drinks come at a reasonable time and we eagerly wait for our food. 20 minutes pass. 30 minutes pass. 45 minutes pass. Still no food and we are trying to nurse our drinks to enjoy with our meal. My wife finishes one of the pisco sour cocktails and notices that she there was something solid in the drink that she bit down into. She proceeds to spit it out and notices that there is broken glass in her mouth. We were appalled to find out that there was glass in our cocktails. The shards of glass were not from the cocktail glass we were drinking out of and had to had come from the bar. We immediately let the server know who then informs her manager. The manager does not come to our table to apologize and we instead have to get up out of our table to confront him while my wife is in the bathroom rinsing her mouth of any potential remnants of glass that could have still been in her mouth. The manager I spoke to was very defensive and tried to convince me that the glass could not have come from the bar and starts to try to show me different bottles behind the bar as if that was going to somehow negate the fact that there were shards of glass in my wife's cocktail. Awful response by the staff. There was zero sense of empathy or responsibility taken and we immediately left. We were there for an hour with no food, subpar cocktails, and glass in our drinks. I've managed restaurants for 18 years. I understand mistakes happen. But there has to be safety precautions when it comes to food handling. This is was likely a broken glass that happened during service where pieces of glass fell into the ice behind the bar. The bartender should've realized that there was a health hazard and burned the ice to refill with fresh ice. The manager should have known that the ice needed to be burned. The manager should have responded WAY better with the situation instead of trying to convince me that it was not their fault. I love Peruvian food, and I've been curious about this restaurant for quite some time. I went in with my wife on a Friday night around 7:30 and we were greeted by a very nice waitress. She was the best part of the entire experience, hands down. She made sure to give above and beyond service from the moment we walked in until we left. I was shocked at how empty the place was on a Friday night, and kind of worried about the quality of food because of that fact. I was pleasantly surprised with the Lomo Saltado, but disappointed at the high price and small portion. My wife ordered the Ceviche Mixto appetizer, and she wasn't very impressed by it. I tried it for myself, and I thought it was pretty bland too. Inka cola was $6 for a glass, and we decided to order the beef heart appetizer since we were still hungry. Our waitress said it was her favorite and we weren't disappointed. All in all, it was an ok experience, the best part was the service. 2 out of 3 dishes were delicious, which helps, but all were overpriced, and the portions were small. read more

I mean, wow, this place is truly a gem. The food was so incredibly delicious I couldn't believe it. The platanos fritos were truly one of the best things I've ever eaten in my entire life. They were perfectly made and truly tasted like they were made with love, and a sincere passion for good food. The lomo saltado didn't miss either and was an absolutely stellar dish. It was warm, perfectly seasoned, and there was an incredible balance with every ingredient. Of course, we tried every pisco sour they had and they were sincerely amazing. Every flavor was absolutely delicious. I am floored by how amazing this place is and can't wait to go back! We really enjoyed our lunch at Pisco Bar! I love Peruvian so I was happy to see a spot open in Saratoga- my favorite downtown in the bay. The ceviche was so good. It had a hefty portion so my husband and I didn't have to fight over pieces like we usually do. ;) Great citrus flavor and obsessed with the huge corn kernels included that are signature to Peruvian. The Pisco Sours were super good. I almost docked a star because the Serrano was far too spicy to drink, but then figured that could be my mistake since I hardly ever have Serrano. Usually I can handle my spices though. I did notify the waitress of this. Maybe they can take it down a notch. ;) The other two drinks were delicious! Great Piscos that did not disappoint. Good thing the restaurant can deliver stellar Piscos because of the name. ;) The entrée we ordered to split was so good. (Saltado de pollo). It had a really yummy sauce and huge portions for $14. So glad my hub and I split! Loved the fries that were mixed in too. We agreed we would come back for the unique flavors of the dish. A nice mix-up from the food we eat all of the time. The chicken was very quality too; cooked perfect and not fatty! We walked out of there full and satisfied. Thank you Pisco Bar! After a long day at work, I had a meeting in Saratoga, and my wife suggested we stop for a drink afterwards. With the stormy weather outside. We ended up at Pisco bar. The bartender was friendly and had mentioned they were out of ice and that one of the employees is picking it up. Despite this, we decided to wait a bit . Wanting to try some pisco sours, we opted for the flight to taste different flavors, only to find out that some were unavailable. Not too hungry, we ordered the ceviche borracho, but were surprised when it arrived without chips, as the server explained they had run out. Amazing undertaking by the owners of Pisco Bar, a large location on Big Basin way. It's a great bold move to inject some nightlife into a normally sleepy street by night. Applaud their effort by stopping by and sitting at their full bar to enjoy some tequila-based drinks. It's large enough to clear out some tables by the bar and have a guest DJ on Saturday nights. Now for the food: *Empanadas: Grade A, you can't go wrong with these light and cooked to perfection pieces *Ceviche Classico: Grade A, just the right amount of tartness balanced with the red onions, nice pieces of daily cut fresh fish *Lomo Saltado: Grade B, beef was a little tough, but the sauce was excellent *Salmon A la Parrilla con Quinotto: Grade B, Salmon was slightly over-cooked without much flavor (need to work on seasoning), Quinoa combo was excellent *Alfajores Cookies: Grade B+, nicely done cookies with not too sweet caramel inside...a bit pricey I hope this place catches on with what's a normally quiet street and breathes new life into the area. We stopped by this restaurant and bar on a Sunday afternoon while visiting the Saratoga Classic and Cool Car Show this past weekend. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but the interior is spacious and beautiful, bright and modern with lovely artwork on the walls (hummingbirds!). We tried the classic ceviche and peruvian style mini empanadas (all 3 flavors), and the taste and quality of the food was amazing. The ceviche came with fresh tender pieces of fish, and the empanadas were cooked and served with such unique flavors pleasing to the palate. The mushroom empanada was probably my favorite, even if a bit oversauced, but the other two were good as well. The chicken empanada tasted like sweet curry, and though I'm not a big fan of curry, this well-seasoned recipe was actually quite good (and very yellow). The beef empanada seemed to have raisins (not my favorite ingredient), but the marinade and spices in the filling overall were excellent. The empanada crusts were delicious and slightly crisp, though they seemed to have a sprinkle of powdered sugar on the top, which I thought was an awkward mix for this savory dish, especially with the sauce it came with on the side which tasted almost like mustard (but actually tastier, and not as tangy). To drink, I ordered a lemon drop, and they made it really good. It was definitely strong, and not skimping on the alcohol is always a plus at any bar. The only bad part about our experience is that the service was just okay, even with lower standards since this seems to be a new establishment. The wait time was subpar and disappointing... to get seated, to place our order, to get our check (but luckily not a long wait for our food to be ready). At a sit-down restaurant, when I have to get up and walk up to servers/employees in order to get help and/or put in our order after already patiently waiting at our table for some time, that's a bad sign. The employees were slow and inattentive, even when the place wasn't busy. The good news is, at least they were really friendly and kind. Peruvian food is one top cuisines in the world, and Pisco does a good job an showing a few examples of that. I went here after a long hike at Castle Rock, and the food tasted like Mana from heaven. I dislike leave a review like this but maybe it will result in improvement. We were a party of 4 for an early dinner. One was actually from Peru and was thrilled to share beloved food and drinks with us. The location is good and visually well appointed. So why were there only 4 tables on a Saturday eve? Great decor, food was beautifully presented t but it wasn't very good, the service was worse, and was pricey for what we got. Food was a fusion between Cali/Asian/S American that didn't work and was lacking in substance. Pisco Sours twere fun but small: 4 oz glasses over ice @ $14. Glass of Peruvian Malbec was off, bottle had been open a while. I sent it back with an explain, was not offered another option, so I ordered a can of Peruvian soda. Shared Classic ceviche appetizer ordered spicy. It had a single slice of red chili on top, was mostly red onions thin sliced lengthwise so awkward to navigate with a fork and too large for or the small side bowl of diminutive Mexican style tortilla chips. Otherwise there was a sprinkling of 2 types of native corn and 5-6 thin slices (1/8 x 1") of cooked white fish and a single 1x 1/2" peice of (over) cooked sweet potato on top with a mild sweet dressing. The onion overpowered the dish, and for a classic that's usually about the fresh seafood, there was little of substance for $20. We ordered entrees to share/try: 2 of house specialties and 3 others, each between $25-38. Who doesn't like Paella? We ordered the house signature version, a beef stir fry, pork chop with pumpkin stew, and the vegetarian udon noodles All arrived cold. The paella was truly disappointing: pasta over cooked, plentiful sauce very bland, with very little else. We didn't even finish it. The pork chop with pumpkin stew was also a disappointment: very thin cut, overcooked, so dry it curled at the edges and was hard to cut even with a steak knife and so over smoked it was barely edible. Pumpkin stew was also bland and overcooked. The majority of the dish was plain (also over cooked) white rice which no one ate with a small drizzle of a bland brown sweet sauce over all. The beef stir fry, another signature dish, was ok but too heavy on the soy. I've had far better for half the cost at Asian eateries. The udon vegetarian dish was the best of the lot: lots of cubed tofu, mild sauce, and (overcooked) noodles with a few veggies added. We had at least 4 different people involved in the service and it wasn't skilled. They didn't know how to handle a drink tray, so our drinks had partially spilled (meaning they got smaller) and with no cocktail napkins, made a mess of the table. At no time did anyone check in or ask if everything was ok. We decided to pass on dessert, but 2 of us ordered a coffee. Only American drip served here, served almost cold in 4 oz cups with little the plastic single serve containers of...coffee mate. I asked, but was told there was no milk or half and half in the house. We sat chatting, sipping our little cups of coffee till they were empty. No one came by to offer a warm up, and no one checked in so I went over to the bar where the servers were standing and asked for it. We were brought 2 new lukewarm cups (also spilled in the saucers) with the little coffee mates. I'm pretty sure the coffee was made from K-cups, which would explain the missing warm ups... But when it came time to pay the bill 2 servers arrived and ran our card through the hand held machine on the spot. The bill was $250. We were charged for the spoiled wine @ $16 and also the coffee refills, which amounted to a 10% overcharge... ...and they cleared they table before we'd finished the place was almost empty, and it was only 8 pm. $250 plus tip for a disappointing meal with a 10% overcharge and bad service isn't acceptable and we won't be back. read more

Not a good place to go. This was such a shame because we travelled a bit to get here for a date night . In total we waited 45 min for our food, I finally got up and asked what's going on and they said it would be another 15min? We left the restaurant and didn't eat. There's a great Italian place across the street that's much more worth it! When we drove away I saw other people complaining and walking out. What a mess. read more

I really enjoyed the food here and service was great! The classic ceviche is a must have. I ordered a beef dish for my main course - it was delicious and the only thing it needed was a bit more salt. I'd come back here again to try more things from the menu! read more
