At first glance the options feel limited to a typical Thai restaurant, but we loved everything that we ordered! My parents are hard to please, and also loved the food!! -Dragon Balls (5/5): deep friend minced chicken with added flavoring. It was really good! Could have used a side of sauce, but it disappeared quickly :) -spicy eggplant (5/5): I love eggplant dishes and this one did not disappoint. The spice was the right amount and didn't feel over the top. Since it's a side, it's a smaller portion -pad see ew (4/5): they warned us that they ran out of the wide noodles so we got thinner noodles, but the noodles had a toughness to each bite. Disappointing Experience - Won't Be Returning We really used to enjoy coming here--in fact, we were here exactly two weeks ago and had excellent service from a different waitress (who we didn't see tonight). Unfortunately, because of how we were treated tonight, we won't be returning. We arrived right when they opened at 4:00 PM today and specifically chose to sit outside at a table for six to stay in the shade. There were three of us--two adults and a child. The restaurant was not busy at all; in fact, it was completely empty except for us and one other person. Shortly after we sat down, a woman who appeared to be the waitress (or possibly the owner) began opening the top shades, exposing the tables to the direct sun--the exact thing we were trying to avoid. She then asked us to move to a smaller table. I asked if she could please pull the shades back over so our family wouldn't be stuck in the sun, but she refused. Her excuse was that she needed the shades open for when they turn on the patio heaters later. It was 81 degrees out, so forcing us to bake in the direct sun for heaters that weren't even needed made absolutely no sense. What made this double standard even worse was that the only other customer there--a woman sitting alone at another 6-seater table just waiting to place a to-go order--was completely left alone. There were plenty of seats outside the actual dining area she could have used, yet she wasn't asked to move or bothered at all. There was a very easy solution for us: the waitress could have just separated the two-seater table from the four-seater, allowing us to stay put out of the sun. Instead, she chose to target our family with a rigid ultimatum to either move to a different table in the direct sun or sit inside. The weather was beautiful, so we wanted to stay outside, just not sweating in the sun. The rigidness of her refusal, her bizarre excuse, and the clear discrimination in how we were treated versus the other customer in an empty restaurant left us feeling incredibly uncomfortable. Ultimately, we opted to just leave. It is incredibly disappointing to go from such a great experience two weeks ago to being made to feel so unwelcome by this individual. Our favorites were the Crab Curry, which was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor, and the Kaeng Rawang, with its bold, aromatic curry. I really wanted to love Coup De Thai because the space itself is cozy, modern, and the staff was attentive. Unfortunately, the kitchen fell short on two major fronts: seasoning and value. We ordered a few different dishes, and across the board, the food was quite salty. The heavy hand with the salt unfortunately drowned out the fresh herbs and complex spices you typically expect. Furthermore, the portions are small. For the price, you don't get a very substantial amount of food, which makes it tough to leave fully satisfied. This is a solid 4 star restaurant, but their Mother's Day celebration escalated them to a 5 star. Tully took really good care of us from leading us to our seat, taking family photos for us, explaining the menu item by item patiently, taking orders, refilling water, checking if we need to replace plates, all the way to finishing our visit with a check. Everything she did was friendly, kind and courteous. All the staff members including the owner wished us happy Mother's Day repeatedly. The owner also gave us a small gift pouch with a set of Thai coasters, a chocolate and a complementary drink card as an appreciation for us making the reservation early. Coupe De Thai is also not a boring Thai food restaurant; their menu has some tasty and interesting dishes. I was blown away by their White Lotus Curry that was a piece of crispy skin branzino fish lay on a bed of white creamy sauce that tasted very coconutty and yet not spicy at all. The round lotus seeds under the fish was de-cored to remove the bitterness. Very interesting and pleasant! I almost licked the plate clean to take in every drop of the sauce. Their Mother's Day special was a surf and turf pad Thai which was also beautifully presented and very delicious. There are 3 large shrimps and slices of medium rare beef steak on top of a bed of pad thai with tofu and ground peanuts. I love all elements of the dish and the sauce, sweet and slightly tangy and spicy was so soul gripping. The Clay Pot Crab Rice was another kid-friendly dish. It tasted light with lots of crab meat and white rice. The amount was sumptuous. We got here early and had the pleasure of enjoying its unique Thai style decoration without much crowd disturbance. The wall fish net decoration was a good topic for us. Their wine bar was beautifully lit and a nice background for pictures. Tully was also very smart to suggest us to take the picture before the crowd pours in. I ordered a zero proof Sawasdee Sunshine, which was ok but it was beautifully decorated. Came here on a Friday @ 6:45pm for my friends birthday celebration. I easily reserved ahead of time on Open Table. Parking is a bit rough, but we were able to find parking at the lot across the street. It was quite busy. There is plenty of inside and outside seating. We got a nice table right by the window. We ordered thai tea, calamari, dragon balls, sesame chicken, and pad thai with shrimp. My favorite definitely had to be the calamari. The dragon balls was quite flavorful, citrusy, and not spicy at all. The sesame chicken was juicy with a good crispiness to it. It was a bit too sweet though. Went for a quick lunch date at Coup de Thai on Friday and love the vibe and interiors. Modern, trendy and inviting. The food was super fresh. I don't usually order vegetarian dishes, but the spicy eggplant with fresh basil and chili and that vibrant purple color was a stand out. Sesame chicken with jasmine rice is a great option for kids - a tad sweet and crunchy. The papaya salad was a bit too tangy for my taste. The lychee martini was amazing. The dragon balls were not as spicy as I thought they would be but they were otherwise well fried and flavored. I was a little bit, disappointed that they could not adjust the spicy level: I can usually request Thai spicy at other Thai places that I have been to, but I understand their hesitation. And those were really good. For food, we got: -HH Tom Yum Ceviche (3.5/5): A very generous portion of spicy shrimp with very fresh sesame rice crackers. Unfortunately, the shrimp were not the freshest and had a slightly mushy texture. We didn't finish the dish. -White Lotus Curry (4.5/5): We're always down to try new things, and this dish didn't disappoint. It seems to end there, however. 4 miniature chicken skewers for an absurd price that could get you four skewers each the size of a chicken thigh, and the meat was tough too. Calamari was just a mere couple bites, not to share, though it was crispy. The curries were either super spicy or super bland, and meat and fish were dry. We ordered from the Seize the Lunch menu. I had the Pad Thai with tofu, and my husband had the Yellow Curry with chicken. Each came with Summer Rolls Tofu, and a choice of Thai ice tea or regular ice tea. The house salad on the side of the main course was basically just a few pieces of lettuce with dressing. Unfortunately, the Thai ice tea was the best part of our meal. It tasted like normal Thai ice tea, and not too sweet. The tofu summer rolls with sauce were ok. However, the Pad Thai and curry were not authentic at all. Not sure if they're just missing fish sauce or Thai seasoning, or they're simply bland. The texture of the noodles was off as well. During happy hour, bottles of wine are 50% off, which is an incredible deal. But regardless of the reason you go, you cannot miss the desserts, even if you're on a diet like we were. One dessert is a large ball of coconut ice cream served inside a coconut with wonderful coconut flesh inside. We got a second dessert, which were these amazing deep-fried bananas, served also with the coconut ice cream. I don't think I have ever had coconut ice cream so intensely flavored. Food wise, we tried the pad see ew and pineapple fried rice. Both dishes were pretty good.
