Pita GR surprised me a little bit. They are highly rated on Yelp but FOOD So far, I've tried the Beef/lamb gyro Pita and the Braised Lamb Pita. The protein, fries, pita, and other ingredients were all great. I don't have any complaints. Both were good but the Braised Lamb surprised me. It's not commonly offered at other restaurants and it was really tender and flavorful. SERVICE Friendly and good INSIDE There's a good number of seats and tables inside. It's comfy. The restroom is kind of strange. Not sure if the door locks. PARKING Shared, large parking in the rear. All of the stores here have a somewhat unique set up. The buildings are all up next to the street side. Only the sidewalk is between the shops and the street.

I was craving a frozen yogurt and noticed this place sells it! I ordered the frozen yogurt and This is the best frozen yogurt I have ever had! I usually like eating Greek yogurt because of the taste and the frozen yogurt doesn't taste like it's artificial! I taste like Greek yogurt, frozen! The service is fast and the ambience is really cute.

Came here again and the food was awesome! Plenty food for the amount you pay. The tempura zucchini is seriously the best I've had! Hands down. Service was good. I did have to wait a bit to get my takeout order, but the people were very friendly and helpful. Ambiance is casual and comfortable. Plenty of seating for those who want to eat there and even had some outdoor seating as well.

Nice sized, clean, restaurant. Restaurant is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. The service was helpful and friendly. The food was phenomenal. Hot, made to order, and delicious. My husband and I will be back to try other dishes.

This is a really great place. I've had pita fast pita. This pita is Great. On this visit I had the lamb pita. It's comes with a side of fries. Take a turn away from the normal burger and fries. This is an awesome change from the normal fast food lunch or even dinner. The service is top notch. So helpful if you aren't sure what you want. The ambiance is nice with Greek music in the air. Overall well priced.

I spotted this place while driving to See's Candies and decided to give it a try, so glad I did. From the moment we walked in, the customer service was on point. We were greeted right away, and the whole place had a warm, welcoming, homey vibe. The menu selection is solid. We ordered the beef gyro and the chicken souvlaki plate. The beef gyro was very tasty, the meat was tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. The chicken souvlaki was also delicious, but the real standout for me was the hummus. It's made in-house, and you can absolutely tell, creamy, warm, and honestly one of the best hummus dishes I've had. It even brought back memories of Papa Cristo back in Mid-City LA, that's how good it was. If you're craving quality Mediterranean food, don't pass this gem up.

I went to Pita GR since I really needed lunch before a doctor's appointment that was in the same plaza and have been on a Mediterranean kick lately. I decided to give the Lamb Gyro Street Style a try. The portion size was okay. The meat was dry and not much flavor. I probably should have asked for more tzatziki sauce which have helped with that. The fries were good and I really like that they were topped with some cheese. I think it was feta. The staff were very nice abd helpful. The vibe was casual, and relaxing. The restaurant was clean and maintained. I'm glad I tried it but I probably wouldn't try it again unless I'm close by and need something fast.

I absolutely love pita gr! I come here regularly to dine in. On a Thursday evening about an hour before closing, I tried to order online and I think the system was down. Placed a call and was left on hold. I enjoy the food so much, I went to order in person. It did not appear to be busy, cooks and staff looked at me while I waited to order. After almost 10 minutes someone came to take my order. I ordered Zucchini chips, half chicken gyro, and a beef/lamb gyro wrap. Unfortunately the take out was not theirs best quality of food. Maybe because it was close to their closing time. Fried zucchini was burnt and when bit into, it tasted like grease. That was a bummer because their zucchini is one of my favorite dishes. I also did not expect the half chicken to be chopped into tiny tiny pieces like that. I should have asked that before ordering. Overall their food is great when you dine in, I do not recommend take out. Try their zucchini, spicy dip, zeus fries and their chicken skewers! Dine in food is delicious and it's always clean inside the restaurant.

The food is amazing. We had the pork pita and the beef/lamb pita with the Greek salad, the way the flavors blend together in your mouth, the fries had the perfect crunch, will definitely come again. Shoutout to the workers too, super friendly and their recommendations were definitely on point.

came here during my break to get lunch looking for something pretty healthy and honestly this is a good spot. i got a chicken salad it came with garlic fries, pita, and a really good salad with feta and red notions, and lettuce with kale it comes with sauce but tasted really good without it too the portion was also really big so i had a lunch for that day and the next. the fries are thin cut which i love and the seasoning was super good. everything was seriously a nice about to flavor, i don't like my food over seasoned so this was just what i needed. service was pretty fast especially since there were a few orders in while we came. even though i came here for takeout i saw each type of person come in: family, couple, pick up for catering, so they do it all and the vibe is chill yet corporate, it's like greek food made into a fast food restaurant, but i love it cuz honestly we need that, can't just be relying on that trip to vegas to have mad greek lol i'll def be coming back here again

This place was recommended by a Facebook Foodie Page, so I thought I would give it a try as part of my Mediterranean food extravaganza. I tried various dishes at over a dozen Mediterranean restaurants in a 6-month period. The flavors of the gyro were good. But I felt like the protein portion for the gyro was very small compared to gyros from other similar locations. Along with the gyro, I had the Zucchini fries. They looked great, just like the photos I had previously seen online. Unfortunately, they were very oily and greasy and not like I expected. The staff was friendly. Parking was super easy. The price of the gyro was comparable to other similar locations.

I ordered souvlaki pita. It was a generous portion. I only are 1/2 but wish I had room for more. The garlic fries are crispy and perfectly seasoned. I I enjoyed the cucumber lemonade but you need to like pucker up lemonade to enjoy it. I do. Hubby had the lamb plate. He ate the whole thing. I also liked the picked onions and the variety of pita dipping sauces. read more

Such a great place to eat Greek food. The food was so good, I got the pork souvlaki plate. It comes with salad, dip, rice and some pita bread. The salad had its own dressing that had so much flavor. The staff is super nice. read more

We don't live in Downey but we make a point to stop in Pita GR any time we are in the area. As Greeks friends always ask where they can get good Greek food. Pita GR is a place I'm always confident sending people too. The staff are friendly and helpful with the menu and the food is delicious. The Avgolemeno soup is as good as any Greek grandmother will make, the chicken souvlaki is moist and flavorful, fried zucchini chips are always a go to with the tzaziki dip, and the gyro (minus the red pickled onions) tastes just like Greece. Finish off the meal with a Frappe coffee or a Greek yogurt with honey and baklava and you are set! I look forward to continuing to try new dishes like the lam chops on future visits. read more

This was our first time here at the new Pita GR Greek Street Food Restaurant, newly redecorated and refurbished from the former Cafe Opa. The interior of the restaurant was immaculate and very clean. They did a wonderful job remodeling the restaurant. As for the food, it was excellent although a little heavy on the starch. My salad was excellent and very tasty. I had the lamb plate which included rice, salad, pita, and my choice of dip -- I opted for the traditional Tzatziki. The lamb chops were very good and very meaty. The rice was very tasty and so was the dip. The pita was very fluffy and fresh. My only disappointment with the menu was that they only had pork gyro (yeero) and there was an absence of lamb gyros. My wife was a little disappointed with the yeero portion on her plate. There could have been just a little more in the serving. But otherwise, the quality of the food was very good and worth a return trip. They feature Greek beer and wines (red and white) which I'll have to try the next time and also try a baklava for dessert. All in all, it's a wonderful start for this new restaurant. I highly recommend the dining experience! read more

I was hesitant to try this place since it replaced my beloved Cafe Opa, but I had to give it a shot. Glad I did! I had a chicken pita and a piece of baklava. The chicken was tender and well seasoned. I really liked the fries on the pita. I'm usually not into fries on my food (I like it separate), but the fries are thin and they put the right amount, not too many. The baklava was good, too, very fresh. I will be coming back. read more

This is as close to legitimate authentic Greek food as you are going to find anywhere that isn't Greece itself. This isn't "American Greek" with shaved meat and plain tzatziki sauce, this is "I'm in Athens having a great meal Greek". This place is a hidden GEM that we found on our way through LA! It's clean, has fabulous service and fantastic food!!!! The proteins were tender, juicy and full of flavor. The Sauces and dips were all made from scratch. We were a party of 9 and each of us left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. The staff knew we were passing through and treated us to dessert! So glad this place opened up! All the food was delicious with that home made taste and touch. The lamb pita had thick pieces of grilled lamb & a perfect mix of spices. Also had the lamb chops & was a little weary that it's sold by the 1/2 kilo. The half was 7 chops with pita bread & a small serving of tzatziki. Order a side Greek salad & you're good to go (no lettuce in the salad as it should be). The potatoes were good too but not a must. We will definitely be back. read more

This was some of the BEST Greek food I've ever eaten! This is a hidden gem in Downey! The meat was cooked perfectly and so moist! The salad, dips and fries were OFF THE CHART GREAT! The food is super flavorful and fresh! I was so impressed with the friendly staff and professionally service! The owner was super friendly and approachable! This place was clean and organized! Wow! I had pledged my eternal love to the restaurant that was previously there and I snubbed the current one. But I have to confess I'm a sucker for Greek food and so I went. Hello little piece of heaven! Let me start by saying who ever was in charge of decorating did an excellent job, very updated with the "less is more" mentality. From the fried zucchinis, the sweet potatoe main dish, to the Greek yogurt with baklava.... I'm at a loss for words. Delicious! If I could've squeezed in a little more I would have had the coffee. But alas, I consoled myself that I would return tomorrow for coffee and baklava... and Greek fries .... oh and the cabbage salad... maybe the lamb.... A must try read more

Been waiting for this place to open because i live walking distance and i'll be back frequently. The pork and the chicken were both very tasty, good prices, friendly service what else can i ask for? Sauces were nothing special is my only complaint and i didnt try the wines or dessert so 5 star might be a little premature but value is excellent read more

I have been to this restaurant several times since it opened a few weeks ago. I personally have had never tried any kind of Mediterranean food at all and as a serious food enthusiast I found that quite embarrassing so I decided to give Pita GR a try. I was definitely not expecting to love this food so much, I was truly amazed! I have been eating lamb all my life so I'm skeptical to try it when someone other than my mom cooked it but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a lamb Merida and it was perfect, I felt as if I got everything on the menu on one dish, I was stuffed and I still had half of my dish left so you definitely get your money's worth. I brought my husband (a very picky eater) and he got a pork pita (yeero) and he loved it! I have had almost every dish on the menu including dessert and everything has been delicious. The restaurant is always spotless and all of the staff is incredibly polite and helpful, I expected some hiccups because the restaurant is very new but I have nothing to complain about. You can tell the food here is made with passion and pride. you can taste the quality of the ingredients in every bite, I recommend this place to everyone and I will definitely be coming back. read more

Went for dinner and I am happy that I did. The service was exceptional, they were kind, welcoming and extremely attentive. The food was delicious. Had the dip trio with the recommendations of the person who took my order and they were all phenomenal and had great flavor. Had the pork gyro and it was great. I heard about Pita GR from a friend and started to follow their Instagram page. The photos on their page highlight the delicious food they serve. I finally decided to check the place out for myself and I was not disappointed to say the least. Five starts for the food, vibe, and customer service! I've been back three times since the day I first tried it. The food is incredible (I've tried the chicken merida, lamb gyro, the potatoes are to die for, the frozen yogurt desert, soup, salad, the baklava, and the dips)! The food is very flavorful and more than satisfying. Already plotting my return to try the lamb chops, they look mouth watering delicious. I also had the Greek red wine and I am in love! Haven't been able to try the other wines because I'm so stuck on the red. Definitely a must try! The food isn't the only thing this place has going for itself. The look and feel of the restaurant was excellently executed, it was comfortable and appealing. The sum of which makes dining-in a pleasant experience. Customer service was excellent. Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly. Will definitely be coming back! read more

Oh my! So darn good! I was a Green Olive fan but this place is so much better. And the staff is so great and the place has been refurbished. Airy, light. Just awesome. Cant wait til they can deliver via Postmates. In the meantime I will go enjoy the lovely ambiance, food and staff in person. Nice mom/pop local eatery. Ordered the lamb pita asked me if I wanted the traditional sounded OK so I tried. Meat was not tender kind of grisly and not tasty salad was the best part of the meal over priced at $33 for two sandwiches and a salad never going back read more

Potatoes are so yummy , the spicy cheese was incredible!!! We ordered two pitas one chicken one lamb the lamb was Perfect and chicken too everything healthy ! The minty cucumber drink is very delicious . We will definitely be coming back . The renovations are so beautiful !! Excellent food and customer service! I had the chicken plate, which included a delicious salad, spicy dip, rice and pita bread -- very good mixture of flavors! I also picked up a lamb pita and yerro plate, which my family thoroughly enjoyed. The remodeled restaurant is very welcoming and rivals any DTLA spot. Great addition for Downey! read more

Today I tried PitaGr and I can say it was pretty good. My fiancé is Greek and I've been to Greece several times so this ranks up there with authenticity. I would have given it 5 stars but I really couldn't deal with the twist the chef is trying to put on old school street food. The pork Gyropita was amazing and the tzatziki (a little watery for Greek yogurt) was delicious but i was really perplexed by the pickled onions that were a touch sweet. It throws the flavor off and as good as everything else was in the pita its completely unnecessary in my opinion. Another perplexing thing was Avocado in the lamb pita? Completely unnecessary and throws off the taste of delicious roasted lamb. Maybe the chef put too much thought in to this but that's just my opinion. I also got roasted lemon potatoes and they were absolutely Devine. I will definitely be coming back but I'll order my pites without the sweet pickled onions and avocado. I'm positive I'll be changing this to 5 stars once I do. read more

Just stopped by Pita GR for some Greek eats and it didn't disappoint. I got the Zeus fries loaded with beef/lamb gyro meat and it was massive - totally hit the spot. What I loved most? They don't skimp on the tzatziki sauce here, unlike other places. The fries were just the right amount of crispy and the gyro meat was spot on - well cooked and seasoned. My wife had the braised lamb pita, which was good, but she kept eyeing my gyro meat. Can't go wrong with the classic. Service was a tad slow giving us our food, but it was all good. It happens sometimes. This was our 3rd time coming here and this seemed like an outlier. The place has a really cozy feel to it with all the warm, bright colors, perfect for this chilly evening. I love all the string lights casting a golden glow. Plus, there's plenty of parking, which is always a win. Prices are reasonable too compared to others. Finally a little touch of creativity and originality in Downey. I've been waiting for a strong Greek concept to come to Downey. I grew up with lots of Greek friends and have attended the Downey Greek Festival since I was little. Pita GR brings a much needed highly developed menu without the stuffiness of a full service sit down restaurant. The food is incredible. I recommend that you order things "family style". Last time, my friends and I ordered a few different "Kilos" of lamb and pork and a few different sides. It was more than enough to eat but the real treat was the quality of the meat and vegetables. I ordered the chicken gyro with the chef's modern take on it & I just felt it was drenched in sauce, it felt too heavy, the chicken was burnt on one side so it tasted over charred & nothing about the contents of the gyro was fresh. The fries weren't anything to write home about, but I did add an extra star for the customer service because they were pleasant. I was hoping for a chicken gyro with fresh juicy tomatoes inside & some crunch, but unfortunately the flavor profile was one dimensional: salty with a side of burnt. Won't be back. read more

This little gem was quit the experience. After coming back from a trip to Greece this past summer I was thrilled to fined a Modern Greek Restaurant that served all my favorites. My pork "Yeeros" was spot on. The Pita was the perfect chew to fluff and pork belly Yeero inside was the perfect crisp to spice top all that off with that Bomb tzatziki and boom a successful expierence.
