Gelato is good, but nowhere near the best I have had. The price is definitely on the pricier side (compared to the actual amount you get). However, the workers are very courteous and you can sample various flavors before making a decision. Sadly I had one very bad experience here. I ordered hot chocolate, but they served expired whip cream. Additionally, the hot chocolate was too watery. Simply not good. When I went back to the store, the worker was very apologetic and the refund process was nice and smooth. I am very hesitant to order drinks from here again, but will likely end up grabbing some gelato again at one point or another. read more

Working from Reston Town Center office today and it was time for a coffee. Decided to try an americano coffee at Pitango Gelato. Right from the door I could notice something is not gonna be right, music was very loud, employees were 3-4 kids (ages 18-25 I figured) all looked very very liberal (not gonna describe, but first thing that went through my mind was, why the hell would you do that to your body?) As a coffee/cappuccino/espresso fan, I feel confident in recommending Pitango as your Reston Town Center go-to for beautifully-executed coffee and espresso beverages. Don't waste your precious time at Starbucks - besides, they don't have any seating at their RTC location and the line is strangely slow-moving. At Pitango, however, the seating indoors and out is plentiful, the ambiance and employees are nice, and the prices are not frighteningly high. Try a macchiato as I did - I loved the heart design in the foam. One of the friends in my party ordered a cappuccino - looked delightfully foamy and she enjoyed it thoroughly. I followed up my last week's visit to DC's Pitango with a visit to the Reston outlet. Though the gelatos were good as expected, the service was sub par to say the least. We got to the store at 9:30 PM on a weekday evening - well before the closing time. The crew was busy doing daily cleanup and did not even acknowledge us! We had to literally get in his face to get service. The entire service experience was spoiled because of this. Now I have worked retail before and we did try and get out of the store as close to closing as possible. But that is no excuse to not serve your customers! After seeing Jeff. W. and Michele D.'s reviews of the place, I knew it was only a matter of time before I was drawn into the realm of Pitango Gelato. I've been in twice now - the first time I had the Mojito sorbet - a crisp, tasty, tangy, refreshing treat - full of lime flavor and bits of mint. Lots of bits of mint! In fact the flecks of mint were laced liberally throughout the sorbet - I could not tell if it was fresh mint, dried mint, or something else. For a little while after eating it - I was still tasting mint. The second time was for a dose of their espresso gelato. They gave me the option to pair it with a second flavor - but I opted for all-espresso. Creamy, cold, refreshing, and delicious! Anyways, I saw this place tucked off to the side and after my stroll around the Towne Center I wanted to stop and check it out. As soon as I walked in you could tell that the people working really enjoyed their job. The place was full of business men dressed in suits trying several flavors. Personally, I only like one flvor and that's generally vanilla. However, the cute guy (Brandon) insisted that I try several flavors. There was a sorbet that I really liked (can't remember the name) its some type of fruit related to a pear but kinda taste like an apple... oh well it was really refreshing!!! In the end I ended up getting Bourbon Vanilla. The taste was sooo smooth and creamy. Since I'm really not a fan of ice cream I made him give me a baby scoop on a cone and then had him to level the cone off (I know... I'm extra at times). Because it wasn't full size the guy wasn't going to charge me but I didn't want to seem like I was getting something for nothing. So I purchased a gelato for a friend. This is pretty decent gelato if you find yourself in the RTC (that's Reston Town Center) on a hot day, but it's not good enough to go out of my way for it. The gelato is always a little too icy and the flavors are unmemorable, with the exception of a really delicious and unusual cardamom gelato I had there two years ago and never saw again. The coffee and espresso drinks beat Starbucks, but that's a pretty low bar. In the 10 or so times I've been here, only twice have I been served by someone nice. This small cup set me back about $4.25 and some change. The BF ended up with a small cup of the passion fruit and mango. So together total with tax and tip It was about $11.48 not horrible for 2 sorbets and we had 2 flavors. Overall Pitango is okay in my book. its not the most extraordinary gelato...but it is simple clean and straight the point no fru fru business. Upon entering, on the wall to your right, there are detailed descriptions of each flavor. Originally, I had thought I would try vanilla but they only had "bourbon vanilla" and that didn't appeal to me. So, for me, it was a toss-up---either vanilla with chocolate chips or pistachio. I ended up going for the pistachio---and was so glad I did! My husband tried local strawberry---and he, too, was pleased! We each got a small cup and sat inside to eat it. It was phenomenal! You are given a small sample-sized spoon---and that's a good thing. It encourages you to slow down and truly savor the gelato. Upon tasting that first spoonful of pistachio, I was wowed. It conjured up an image of freshly shelled, crushed pistachios. My husband was wowed by the strawberry flavoring. On the walls in the seating area are boards explaining where they get their ingredients and how selective they are about their choices. It all shows with each spoonful. How to describe it...hmmm...creamy but not too rich, sweet but not sickeningly so...smooth with no feeling of milkfat residue on your tongue. All the ingredients are balanced ever so well. Just note---it's not cheap! Two small cups cost just under $10, but believe me---it's worth it! My husband, who was reluctant to give it a try, said that we should consider coming here every weekend for some LOL! Also, the decor is very nice, modern, perhaps even "hip". I also love that they have a variety of flavors that can satisfy whatever your sweet tooth might be craving. From pistachio to hazelnut to raspberry, there are both delicious (and interesting) decadent and fruity flavors to choose from! With the regular size, you can order up to two flavors. However, you can sample more! I ordered the mango sorbet and the cafe espresso. The mango was tart and refreshing, but I especially liked the espresso. Be careful though, the taste is pretty strong! My boyfriend is usually not a fan of strong coffee flavors, but he still enjoyed it a lot. Some people might think it's pricey, but I'm okay with it. I'm really picky about giving out five stars but this place definitely deserves it. Saw this gem after a family dinner at the big bowl. Although it was around 10 pm, we saw a lot of people in line and outside the store. We decided to peek in and try certain flavors until we found the one we liked. I got the mojito and my family members got Granny Smith, hazelnut, and pistachio. All the flavors were amazing and not overly sweet (which is a plus). Mojito: virgin mojito with hints of lemon and mint. Super refreshing and loved the pieces of mint Granny Smith: Apple sorbet that has a crisp, clean flavor. Super light and refreshing! Hazelnut: smooth and creamy and not overly sweet Pistachio: super creamy and nutty. Not sweet at all and was very soft. And why not? Their products are all organic with fresh, quality ingredients - something you can definitely taste in something as simple as "local strawberry". Their gelato menu boasts flavors like "spicy chocolate", "creme fraiche" ,and "bourbon vanilla" that are deceivingly simple, but heavily reliant on the quality of the ingredients. Their "chocolate noir" has an intense depth of flavor, that instantly elicits an "omg, that's good" look the moment you put it in your mouth. Pitango's sorbets are also very good from what I was able to sample. They have many fresh fruit flavors like "white grapefruit", "lemon" and "cantaloupe". I would certainly recommend giving their "mojito" a try. You can literally taste and see the fresh, crushed bits of mint. It was like I had taken the mint from my yard and shoved it my mouth. That's exactly what it tasted like. The beauty of most of these flavors is that it's really easy to pair them with eachother and get great results. 2 scoops of anything fits into a small cup and goes for $4.95-ish. You can definitely see the generous chunks of fresh mint in this baby, but boy do they have it down right. Pitango! Whenever I'm in Reston Town Center, which is often, I always have to stop at Pitango. As far as I know, it's the only gelato place in the area, and even with at least three other ice cream related stores in Reston Town Center, I've seen lines for Pitango long enough to reach outside the store. Unlike ice cream or frozen yogurt, the gelato is thick and creamy without feeling heavy. I usually order a small cup if I'm by myself or a large cup to share. They swap their flavors frequently enough so that there are always new things to try-- and don't be afraid to sample before you purchase! They use organic and local ingredients, which makes sense that they would change their flavors to fit what is in season. It is pricey, so you want to make sure you like what you're getting. What I like to do at Pitango is get two flavors in one cup-- one flavor being a creamy (chocolate, crema, or some kind of variation) flavor and the other flavor being a fruity flavor. That way you get the fruit and cream combination, and it's really good. My all time favorite flavor here has to be the crema flavor-- creamy and delicious with a fruity, lemon note too. I also like the chocolate hazelnut a lot too--it's a step up from plain chocolate and tastes like Nutella in gelato form. Although Pitango highlights its gelato, its coffee and espresso are extraordinary as well. If you're a coffee person, you have to give Pitango a try.
