    beef shawarma with hummus
    Ali Y.

One of the better food trucks in Houston, I had the beef shawarma and hummus. It comes with tomato and cilantro which I politely declined as in my experience with shawarma it is not needed. Instead of pita bread you get pita chips which are quite crispy and seasoned well. The sandwich is smothered in tahini, next time I would ask them to go easy on it. They had few options to choose from but did what they advertised well so I would recommend them to my friends.

I normally have to drive into the city for great Tabouli. Not anymore! Pita Bites was at Rosehill Beer Garden and after getting a small free tasting of tabouli, I was hooked and purchased a full order It is fresh, made to order, and even my 3 year old who was hesitant to try it at first loved it. It was served with crisp lettuce for scooping, tomatoes and yummy pickles.

We discovered this food truck while at an evening event at Houston Museum of Natural Science. The other food trucks that were supposed to be there left early. I don't know why they did but I thank them for that because we got to try the fare at this great food truck. Pita Bites offers Middle Eastern type cuisine. The foods will all pay tribute to this culture. My man and I ordered the chicken shawarma. One of our guests ordered the falafel and the other a gyro. With these entrees you get a side. Sides we chose were hummus and chips and tzatziki sauce. Everything was amazing! The shawarma was so flavorful with tender chicken, perfectly pickled veggies with the most complementary sauce. The pita is a flatbread type and a little different from your standard pita but incredibly tasty. Our friend, who loved falafel, said his was some of the best he had eaten. The gyro disappeared quickly and we were told that is was very good and an interesting twist on the traditional type gyro. The hummus was outstandingly creamy, rich and had just the right amount of olive oil. The chips were fried but still crunchy and I loaded every one of them down with the hummus. Faux pas or not, I even dipped my shawarma in the leftover hummus. Yes, it was that good. The tzatziki was cooling and creamy. One thing that I wasn't expecting was the fries that were part of my shawarma ingredients. I actually liked it. They added a little something to the whole shawarma that made it different but enjoyable. I love mango juice and the one I ordered didn't disappoint. It was refreshing and the chunks of mango were fresh tasting. The service was very friendly. The lady taking orders was so helpful to us with this being our first time eating here. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. Just a note: do not expect what you think of as a traditional Greek gyro. This one is a different type of Mediterranean cuisine so ask about it before ordering and go into it with an open mind. If we happen upon this food truck again and we are hungry, we will definitely be stopping for a visit.

    Gyros and hummus

This is not only my favorite food truck but my all time favorite hummus and gyros. One word- AMAZING! Khaled is incredibly nice and helpful when ordering. We make a point to eat here.

All dinners come with a Greek garlic bread starter. I love their iced tea- fresh brewed and always good! The wine is Greek and seems a small bit pricey, but for the extra dollar or two it's worth it- Very delicious. Anything you get at Athena's is amazing so feel free to branch out on your choice. And the desserts are large and homemade! It's hard to save room though. You'll love the fish, steaks, and kebabs. They do a nice lunch sandwich- and still comes with the bread and a Greek salad. If you come on a weekend evening, you may run into the owner having the time of her life! And they take pride in serving the most sweet and ripe slice of melon with every dish. Started to enjoy this first each time I come. It is that delicious, but why can't I find fruit like that anywhere at a grocery store? Give this place a try. Yummy. Officially the authentic Greek restaurant without going overboard. Wait- the homemade 3 layer chocolate cake and the lemon cake! Actually bought a whole one for a large birthday party and everyone wanted to know the bakery name- just Athena's homemade cake! Remember, Greek food is fresh with best ingredients. Service is above that notch and family atmosphere with Greek music- always. But I do find I'm stopping in there solo all the time; others too! Say hello to Maria when you go, she loves to talk to her clients!

When the entree arrived I thought the lamb shank looked small. Taste wise it was good but I have had better. Also the potatoes were as advertised however their appearance and taste to me was average. If I ordered this meal again I would order another side dish perhaps the rice. This meal was a 3.5. Another visit was for dinner was to try the Kokkinisto entree for $21. Again this meal comes with the same enjoyable side salad with bread and I chose the Briami as the supplied side dish. The Kokkinisto (Greek beef stew) arrived on a bed of rice and covered in its herbed tomato sauce with garlic and onions. The Briami was in a separate bowl of stewed veggies in a light tomato sauce. I liked this meal better. The stew had good flavor with tender beef and a tasty red sauce. Also the veggies were good tasting too. I gave this meal a 4. Finally the waitress was very friendly. I believe her name was Jennifer? I like this restaurant and believe they serve good tasting and authentic Greek food.
