I didn't think I'd find myself reviewing any pizza places because I kinda feel pizza's pizza, unless it's crappy pizza. Simply put, the pizza here is delicious. The owner seems like a great person who genuinely loves what he does. He makes his pizza with pride and love and it shows. It's cooked perfectly resulting in an amazing crust. The overall pie, regardless of the toppings, feels very light without compromising substance. A 10" Metirc is perfect for 2 to split. Good beer spread on tap. read more

My wife and I were first time customers to the restaurant today. We perused the menu and ordered the veggie Pizza. The vegetables were VERY fresh. Kudos! I would have enjoyed the veggies better without corn and pineapple. The next time we come for lunch we will customize a pizza with fewer vegetables so we can taste the pizza sauce. Best pizza I've ever had. I think it's the sauce. Seriously, I've been in Southern California for the last five years. I've tried plenty of pizzas and I cant get over Pi Whole. None come close to Pi Whole. This is no bias for my hometown pizzeria, it is just good. This place deserves a lot of recognition. In my opinion, way better than Klondikes. I do have one very small complaint: I once came in and ordered for my entire family, drinks, you know a lot of stuff, and the cashier never spoke one single word nor a smile. I prefer that people actually don't talk to me most of the time, just give me my damn food, but for some this might not be cool. It really didn't bother me too much and I was debating if I should mention it. Cute little hole in the wall pizzeria in Nipomo. I've been pretty impressed with Nipomo's recent local developments, especially considering that just several short years ago, the town consisted of Jocko's and Little Jocko's. So it was nice for me to see that there was a decent pizzeria in town, complete with bar and arcade for the kiddies. I had a salad and a slice of Hawaiian pizza, both of which were pretty good. Nothing super special, but a notch above the traditional chain pizza places. I didn't get to try out anything from the bar, but I did get a glimpse of the selection, which included several types of beer and wines. Atmosphere was relatively small, but cozy. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. I would probably come back here again. read more

When I become loyal to something, I stay that way for life. Thus, I have an undying love for certain chefs and restaurant owners. Especially those whom are authentic in their voice, food, and libations. That said I am a lifetime fan of Pi-Whole Pizzeria in Nipomo. is the mathematical equation of perfection of a circumference, thus the ideal name for a pizzeria. We started with the Tequila Lime Killer Wings, which was abounding with flavor. Gary started with a dish called Pele's Paw, which was the PI-dough, baked, and topped with brown sugar, cinnamon, pineapple, toasted coconut, and macadamia nuts. It was sweet, crunchy, and doughy and made like a bear claw. Gary's sweet tooth was sporting algebraic acclaims. I had my version of sugar, a Grey Wolf Zinfandel (Bring your own wine they do not charge a corkage, but you better offer owner Phil a taste) it complemented the spices and cooled the palate. Gary got the New Belgiums 1554 on tap (this is a fantastic find) and commented on the other unique and wonderful beers. In his mind, you do not eat pizza without beer and Phil's choices pair well with the pizzas. We shared a Mt. Olympus pizza, a volcanic tour de force that weighed over 3.14 pounds () and was combinations of creamy garlic herb sauce with Parmesan garlic shrimp all sautéed together with big chucks of garlic clinging to the tender shrimp. It also has grilled chicken breast, artichoke hearts, feta cheese, and black olives. The Greek flavors were a hit. I asked for silverware and was told, "Eating pizza with a knife and fork is like making love through an interpreter". Instantly loved this man and used my fingers. The second pizza was a Picachu, a hot mix of tomatillo sauce, grilled steak, fresh tomato, cilantro, red onion, and baby corn. It was fantastic. We took home a stock pepperoni pizza to try the red sauce. This rubicund sauce is so delectable with a slightly spicy, but sweet element. I would argue it is the most unique pizza sauce, something I adore and crave. Pi-Whole also offer huge, fresh salads, polenta pizza, lasagna, eggplant Parmigianino, and sandwiches called Lava Bombs. read more

Just found this place recently and it is now my all time favorite pizza place. I must not have met the unfriendly counter help - the first time we went there we could not decide on what to eat and a blond girl from the kitchen walked while we were decided and gave us each a small sample of one of their pizza's! What make their pizza so good is the crust. OMG it is good, plus every pie has a plethora of toppings on it, and they will gladly do half and half so you can try two in one. My husband and I arrived at 6:45 on a Friday night. The restaurant was not crowded, just a few people at the bar, but it took 45 minutes for our order of two personal pizzas to be brought out. Just visiting the area for the long weekend, we were craving pizza and found the Pi-Whole on yelp. We were a little wary b/c yelpers had noted issues with service, but we didn't find that to be the case. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. We were starving and the two large pizzas we ordered hit the spot. Pizza served at the temp where you can eat it right away, nice crust and a zippy sauce. Service was prompt and the owner who checked on us couldn't have been nicer. Interior had "homey" feel, clean and well maintained. Nice to go to a non-chain place for a change and support local businesses while on vacay. Only downside, we ordered a casaer salad and it was very plain. No croutons and dressing not tossed with salad, just on the side. (but note salad dressing was actually quite tasty). Probably not worth the price paid for the salad, so will skip it next time, but we will definitely be back for the pizza! read more

My family of boys LOVES Pie Hole! The menu itself is fun to come at look at! Several of the pizzas have fun, creative names. My boys' favorite is the Mt. All of It. This thing comes with everything but the kitchen sink! I can't stand it, but being the boys they are, the LOVE it. The place has a typical pizza joint feel. Dark, stark, small. There is a back room with video games and a lovely patio! I don't get the appeal, but they certainly do. And the place is always packed. Other than one bad experience with a woman behind the counter, the service has been good. Service was excellent. Called in my order and went to pick it up. Dining was very clean and simple. The service was great, there were two people working and they were very attentive and helpful. My pizza was amazing!!!! I had the Mt. Mayon (chile verde) pizza and it was incredible. Hands down the best pizza on the central coast. We've been taking our kids here for years. I won't say that the staff is exceptionally friendly but we've never been treated rudly. Food takes a while to come out but is always worth the wait. You could also call in and order ahead if you don't have much time. If you like cheap pizza Dominos is down the street but if you want good quality, great tasting pizza and are willing to pay a little extra Pie Whole is the place to go. read more

This was our 2nd vist here. The food is good, no complaints there. However, this time we went to celebrate with our kids soccer team, we were surprised at the service. The team had made advanced reservations for all you can eat offer however when we went there, they were not prepared at all. They brought out 2 pizzas for a group of 25 and then one pizza every 8-10 minutes. When someone pointed out that service was slow, he was asked to not come back. Owner is rude and service is sub par. They changed their pizza. It used to be the best pizza... Our absolute favorite! The last two times, however, have been not great at all. The pepperonis are a thicker, more rubbery consistency rather than the old thinner, delicious version. I'm gonna save the ones I peeled off and play some frisbee golf with them or something. The sauce is different too and not nearly as good as it used to be. Maybe they changed suppliers to save some cash but they should DEFINITELY go back to the way it used to be. As far as the service, I certainly agree that the younger guy that works in there is a crumb-snatchin' grumpster. We actually went in one time to eat and he didn't even say one word to us the entire time. I'm talking during ordering, table service, etc. THE WHOLE TIME! We walked in on a Friday at arounr4:00. One person at the Bar. That was it. Should have took that as a sign. We were not greeted. We just kinda had to figure things out for our selves. The guy who took our order was nice enough , but not overly friendly. A girl came in later and was really nice. The pizza wasn't good , it was overcooked. Hardly any cheese. I have had better frozen pizza. Im sorry but it wasn't worth the 50 bucks we paid for our lunch. My suggestions... Hire someone that loves to cook , their passion will reflect on the quality of their food. Be more receiving of customers instead of just pointing to a sign that says "order here" I can see the good reviews coming from people just in there for a few drinks or locals not wanting to offend the owner of the only pizza joint in a small town. No tasty sauce or amazing crust. It is what it is. Baffled by the lack of customer service. It was very basic. No hello when you walked in even though there was just a sprinkle of people there and no thanks, come again when your whole family leaves. Not a single bye. Girl comes and clears our plates and reaches over us when we are mid drink. Barely says a word. Will it keep me from returning...yeah, probably so. It's a pet peeve to see a family run business which wasn't booming with people and they don't care enough to welcome the people who do come in and thank them for coming.
