Came here tonight. I honestly was not wanting to try this place out from all the negative comments about the service but honestly you guys need to get your panties out of a bunch. Nice clean and casual restaurant with good selection of taps and bottles at the bar. Definitely a place were anyone could go to grab food or just a couple drinks. It was really obvious that they were training a new young kid. He was really nice and was trying hard but he really behind the service power curve. They should have a dedicated person to help him versus customers waiting to place orders, refills, or pay bills. I order one the pizza (can't remember the name) but it was really good. It seemed to have fresh ingredients except for the jalapeños. They were good but just didn't seem hot at all, just tasted a little flat. My husband and I have been coming here regularly for years. It was actually where we had our first date. The pizza is amazing as are other menu items. George is always really helpful and accommodating with special requests. It doesn't matter what night you go in, there always seems to be a steady stream of customers lined up to order or pick up their order. We have gotten to know some of the regulars and it can feel somewhat like family. I have seen some negative reviews about Phil the owner but I firmly believe he gets a bad rap. He may be matter of fact but he has a great heart and is passionate about his product. The restaurant is always clean but I think it could use a little updated look and furnishings. He made a point to come greet us and ask us about our dinner and he introduced himself to every family member of ours (family of 5) and talked with us for a few minutes. The pizza at Pie Hole is the best I've had in California. I'm originally from the East Coast, from a prodominantly Italian area. This rivals some of the pies from there. The sauce is slightly spicy, the cheese is ample, and the crust is perfectly done. Toppings are liberally applied. They use awesome pepperoni. All in all, this place rocks. If you're thinking of ordering by telephone for pickup, don't bother. While we very much like their pizza and they have a decent beer selection, we have had a couple of bad experiences attempting to order by telephone. Not long ago, I called and the phone picked-up but nobody spoke. No "can you hold?" nothing. I wasn't sure that I had reached them, so I hung up and called back. The line remained busy for 20 minutes so I gave up. Apparently they have only one line. Tonight we tried calling again. Same thing about picking up but nobody speaking. Remembering the last time, we stuck it out. We could hear people talking, confirming that the phone had been picked up. We tried shouting into the phone to try to get somebody to answer. No luck. Again after about 20 minutes we gave up. I don't know if ignoring call-ins is company policy or whether I just got the same incredibly incompetent employee a second time, but I really can't recommend that anybody waste their time attempting to order by phone. read more

I called in my order and was told that they were busy so it would take them 45 minutes to make my pizza. I totally understood considering it was a weekend. To give them a little extra time I did not leave my house until it had been 45 minutes. I got there and waited in line and paid for the pizzas and was told it would be a minute. I waited another 20 minutes and started to get angry. I kept looking up at the guy at the register, he noticed and asked me what I was waiting for, so then I told him I was waiting for my order still. He went to the back and grabbed my pizzas. Absolutely LOVE their mauna loa pizza, nobody else comes close. My husband likes the mt shasta and they usually have a beer on tap he likes (IPA). If you like great pizza and a nice selection of beer (no, not bud/bud light/coors/mgd, although they do have some of the cheap stuff too) look no further! The ingredients are fresh, and they don't skimp piling them on the pizzas. Need a pizza with something new, try a pizza with the green sauce instead of regular marinara. Pi Whole never disappoints with full flavor food and fabulous beer (my favorite is the Dogfish Head and of course the 805). My husband, Al and I, have a hard time deciding what to order at the PI-Whole as we have several favorites. The "White Hot Pastrami Bomb" is a mix of pastrami, sauerkraut, pepperoncini peppers, mozzarella cheese and classic mustard; wrapped in delicious homemade pizza dough and baked to perfection! Another favorite is a "Design Your Own Pizza." We order extra pepperoni, extra cheese and instead of red sauce, which is very good; too, we get the "white hot mix." Yummy, with the pepperoni! The pepperoncini juice mixes with the sauerkraut juice and adds a savory zing that is hard to describe. We order to go so we can watch a movie and pig-out, comfort food! Another thing that I want to mention is the to-go containers that we have received our food in. Recycling is important to us, plus "Made in America" products. Some of the containers are made from recycled paper products, made in the USA. The latest was a plastic product, not Styrofoam, made in the USA and totally recyclable. We had a couple of hours to kill before we could pick up our new travel trailer so we decided to drop into Pi-Whole for a beer. We sat at the bar and had a very enjoyable conversation with the owner. We witnessed some incredible pizzas coming out of the kitchen, so, we preordered and paid for a pizza and salad to be picked up later. When we did, the order was ready to go. The pizza was one of the best pizzas we've ever had. The crust was perfect, there were ample fresh toppings, and not greasy at all. We all got the shock of our lives today on how rude and unprofessional the owner is! We had a end of the season party for our soccer girls and for those of u who have been there for that very reason know how it works.. You pay a flat rate for your family and they bring out several different pizzas..We were greeted rather rudely by a loud dinging of the customer service bell he was repeatedly pounding behind the counter which indeed got all of our attention...the need for such childish behavior was to yell at everyone to get up here and pay so he can get the pizzas going! The owner apparently thought that it was normal to help himself to the teams pizza and even took another slice from a family that purchased they're own pizza and did not participate in the all u can eat deal...he also thought nothing of coming back to our table and cutting a piece of crust off a slice of OUR pizza (again) to give to a baby because he didn't have crackers - mind u this baby was not part of our group! The poor mom of the baby was just as shocked! I'm all about sharing, especially with kids but really dude! I asked the man nicely if they had any lids for the soda cups so there were no accidents and his reply, there on order, there not here, you'll just have to deal with it! Even with his rudeness we remained nice and I don't believe he even knew we had a problem with him..completely oblivious! It really takes a lot to shock me anymore or to even make me complain..this is actually the first ever complaint in writing I've made! As we were getting ready to leave he said to us Hasta Lavista Now! The owner of Pi-Whole Pizza lost a lot of returning customers/coaches today! Stopped in to meet a friend for pizza Friday 3/8/13. The service was so bad I will never go back. The Old guy didn't seem to be around that evening. And at first I was thankful for that. I had been in there 2 times before and the Old guy was extremely rude. So was happy to see this younger larger guy. Wow! Were we in for a surprise! This guy was worse. Incredibly rude to my friend as she attempted to order. Then even more rude when the pizza came out wrong. He told her she definitely had ordered it that way. When she replied she would never had ordered it that way because her 2 kids would never eat the mushrooms he told her to get out or he'd call the police because she was causing a ruckus. Believe me she did not cause a ruckus of any kind. Disagreeing with the order is not a ruckus. My friend, our families and friends will never go back. Pizza is not worth it! read more

The unbelievable rudeness of these owners negates the food in this case. We've been here twice. The first time we were told to order ahead and carry out because it would be "better" for the kids; my husband and I were so taken aback we thought for sure we misunderstood. The second time we visited with another couple. We have 2 girls, 2 & 4 years old and they were laughing and talking at our table. The owner asked us to keep them quiet! My friend and I were so confused cause they were being well behaved and just giggling amongst themselves! There was two young men sitting in a table across from us and one was strumming a guitar very gently, we could barely hear him... And the owner then walked over and asked them to leave! I'm sorry, but I thought we were at a pizza joint?! Families welcome?! But that's not the case! We will never go back; and my girlfriend who was with us is a realtor who is spreading the word about how awful these owners treat their customers. Ridiculous! read more

DO NOT ORDER THE PASTA!!... they microwave the pasta and it, of course, turned into a nasty glutinous gummy mess. I only knew what was going on because my kiddo takes it plain w butter and parm.. no sauce. So as soon as it hits the table I know that it's been nuked. So I ask the guy (nice guy) how the pasta is prepared and he says .."it's warmed up" and I ask .."In a microwave?" And he says "yes"... I explain to him what happens to pasta when it's nuked and he agrees so I ask if he can just boil some water and heat the pasta that way. I am told that the owner (because of insurance??) doesn't allow them to use the actual stove??? wtf.. beautiful stove I can see from the bar and it's not used?? So I order a cheese pizza for my daughter. Meanwhile, my meatball lava bomb (good but a bit bland) comes out and I have to eat in front of my kid while she has nothing to eat. When I go to pay my bill I playfully comment to the nice guy that Chef Ramsey would have a field day on this one. He explains that he understands but it's not his decision. So, stick with the pizzas and stuff cooked in the oven and stay away from anything that requires a microwave! ick. We came here for the first time when our children's coach arranged a family party. As we were about to order the owner was very rude in telling the coach that we had better make sure to keep the kids down, as they put a damper on the other patrons experience, and that's why he discourages these types of parties. (Mind you there is a whole corner in this establishment that is dedicated to video games for children to play) as I came up to the register to place my order I asked the owner why there was video games if he did not want to encourage families to eat here?! He was extremely rude and said that the games were meant for the adults. I was absolutely turned off and decided to not spend my money somewhere that the actual OWNER was the problem!
