It's some international cat hanging out with Don Juan de la Matcha
    Juan V.

During the month of May there is lots of things to look forward to on the calendar . There is a National Day for something every day of the week. There is Star Wars Day May the 4th Be With You and Cinco de Mayo on May 5th. Then there are food related National Days like on May 13 it's National Apple Pie Day you can get cheesy in SF on May 15 for National Pizza Party Day. There is also a National Beverage day on May 6 and usually the choice of drink is either sweet or sour lemonade on a sunny day like some you will find in SF. May 2 is Don Juan de la Matcha favorite National Day of which is National Matcha Day. There is one place I go to grab the Banana Bread Matcha Latte and other refreshing matchas and it is called Pixlcat. On a Don Juan de la Matcha stroll down Clement street I landed at Pixlcat. Inside the vibe is a mix of relaxed and up beat at the same time. It has some seating inside with lots interesting art on the walls. Since everyday is matcha day for Don Juan de la Matcha I decided get the ice matcha latte. It was smooth and not too sweet. I enjoyed each drop of it . You can pair it with the matcha butter mochi dessert. The other ice drinks I recommend is the refreshing Ice Passion Mojito with no AI( Alcohol Inside) and purple yam also known as Ice Ube Matcha. This is the place to enjoy a drink on a cold day or a day in the sun. National Matcha Day which also falls this year on National Kentucky Derby Day. Hats off to Pixlcat because when it comes to their Matcha they don't horse around. Come to a "cafe "which is located on Clement street that serves coffee with the flavors of "Ube" and lots of different types of matcha especially for the month of "May" because the 2nd is "Matcha National Day" Matcha varieties have virtually "spread "like ice matcha latte with the flavor of " banana bread "come to Pixlcat you can order it at the register or online order it "ahead " Pixlcat is the place which is good for Don Juan de la Matcha because he is the real deal not a performative "Matcha head"

Honeycomb (kinako / injeolmi syrup) dopo panna latte

INDULGENCE CENTRAL, because of their signature offerings such as: Honeycomb (kinako / injeolmi syrup) Dopo Panna latte: layered iced latte with whipped cream and espresso poured on top. Another unique offering: BUTTER MOCHI: Hawaiian dessert (with mochiko sweet rice flour, butter, coconut milk, sugar, and eggs). Unlike traditional Japanese mochi, this one is baked, not steamed, which gives it crisp caramelized edges and a bouncy center. Don't walk- run.

Had a good experience at Pixlcat. Tried the iced guava matcha and it was super yummy. I actually wanted to order another one ! There were several matcha flavors, hot/cold coffee and tea options available so I will have to go back and try others. There is seating inside and outside and wi-fi is available for those wanting to do a little work on their laptops.

Small indoor seating space and a cute local coffee shop. Smore mochi: Solid flavors Flat white coffee: Not my favorite. Espresso beans had a slight burnt taste. Iced guava matcha: Nice overall mix of flavors! No extra charge for oatmilk!

Have the owners switched the name from Pixlcat Coffee to Butter Mochi Coffee? The pixilated cat is still the logo, but the name above the front door is Butter Mochi. Or maybe it's Pixlcat Butter Mochi Coffee now that I've taken a second look at the overhead menu. I'm confused. I'm also not the sharpest tool in the shed either, especially when it comes to trendy Gen Z coffee stops. I merely bask in my ignorance. This was actually the second time I patronized this quirky shop because I was once again drawn to their robust butter mochi selection. I can't help it. Butter mochi is a sweet Hawaiian-originated treat that has the potential to provide me momentary titillation on the infrequent occasions when I'm strolling on Clement. It's a good thing that the $5.75 Cafe au Lait manages to satisfy and delight (Photo 7). More importantly, I treated myself to the butter mochi. The classic is a flat five dollars, but princess that I must admit to be, I spent the extra quarter for their specialty versions. On my first visit, I had the $5.25 Matcha Butter Mochi which was bereft of icing (Photo 9), and my most recent visit introduced me to the $5.25 Ube Butter Mochi (Photo 8). Both were tasty mouthfuls though I prefer them sans icing. COFFEE - 4 stars...pretty smooth and warm on its own BUTTER MOCHI - 4.5 stars...small, satisfying treats, better without the decorative icing AMBIANCE - 4 stars...generally room enough for me SERVICE - 3.5 stars...engaging staff, just not so much to me TOTAL - 4 stars...I'll come back for the classic butter mochi because for a princess, I'm quite plain RELATED - Exploring the Richmond District? Iced Strawberry Matcha
    Meg P.

I've been here about two times and both times the drinks have been pretty mediocre. The first time I came here I tried the Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte, the strawberry was very artificial tasting it was good but it was a mix of watery-ish matcha and artificial strawberry milk. Onto the Iced Ube Matcha Latte, I would say the matcha again was watery-ish but this time it was more so disappointing as the ube wasn't exactly prominent at all. As someone who's Filipino and has known Ube before Vanilla or Chocolate, it wasn't accurate but wasn't terrible. Overall their drinks there aren't terrible, but it's not a place I would normally choose to go to. Their service was decent, both times I went in it wasn't busy and I was helped pretty quickly. The store environment is really aesthetically pleasing, I should've taken more cute photos of my drinks and their store logo being a pixilated cat is adorable!

Okonomiyaki Spam Musubi - Spam, Nori, Rice, Furikake, Egg, Kewpie, Tonkatsu Sauce, Bonito Flakes

Even though we knew nothing about Pixlcat Coffee before we stopped in, we were intrigued almost immediately. While their cute logo and decor are what initially caught our eye, it was their menu and display case full of goodies that really piqued our curiosity. Between their butter mochi, pastries, and the mere sight of "black sesame" showing up on their drink menu, I knew I couldn't walk out without trying something! Despite how their space isn't all that big, Pixlcat does a pretty good job with what they have, managing to squeeze in a handful of two tops and some counter seats by the front windows (their parklet out front also helps). As for the aforementioned menu, it's got all of your typical sorts of coffees, espressos, and teas along with some really interesting offerings. Most notable are their house specialty iced doppo lattes, which come in a variety of flavors, but it was also more than a little surprising to see okonomiyaki offered, of all things. -- BLACK SESAME ICED DOPO PANNA LATTE...$7.50 Easily the best thing I've had here. Even though I wasn't fully able to blend everything together, the taste of the black sesame in this was so strong. Plus, the nuttiness complemented the creamy elements really well. SO GOOD. -- HONEYCOMB ICED DOPO PANNA LATTE...$7 To be fair, I only tried a couple of sips of this one, but it was my least favorite of the bunch. Oddly, even though it look like there was a lot of honey in this, this tasted far more earthy/grainy than sweet. Plus, we didn't see any bits of honeycomb in this either. -- STRAWBERRY ICED DOPO PANNA LATTE...$7.50 I had high hopes for this one, but it was underwhelming. The latte part of this was fine, but the taste of the strawberry didn't mix well with the rest of the drink, so it felt like two separate flavors going on. What's more, the consistency of this one didn't feel as creamy either. -- BREAKFAST SANDWICH - Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Bacon, American Cheese, Avocado Mash, Pan de Mie Bun...$14 Not perfect, but not too shabby either. While I didn't love the texture of the eggs, I did like how this had both sausage and bacon in it and how the cheese and avocado complemented them well. As for the pan di mie, it was really crumbly and made this messy to eat. -- OKONOMIYAKI MUSUBI - Spam, Nori, Rice, Furikake, Egg, Kewpie, Tonkatsu Sauce, Bonito Flakes...$12.50 Unfortunately for my wallet, I couldn't resist trying this. Not only did this come out piping hot, but it looked terrific and I loved how well the spam, furikake, egg, and bonito flakes worked together. That said, do I think this was $12.50 good? No. -- ICED ISLAND MATCHA LATTE...$8.50 I had high hopes for this one, but it was lackluster. Much like with the Strawberry Iced Dopo Latte, it was hard to get the guava flavors off the bottom and even then, it was more on the subtle side. -- ORIGINAL MOCHI BUTTER Ehh...this was just okay. I liked that this wasn't super buttery (though, I wouldn't have minded more), but the texture felt a bit dry and felt more cake-like than butter mochi. -- UBE & WHITE CHOCOLATE MOCHI BUTTER In terms of texture, this was easily the best - really moist with a very nice chew to it. Sadly, though, the ube flavor was scant, as the only thing I could taste was the drizzle of white chocolate. -- BLACK SESAME MOCHI BUTTER I was most excited for this one, but it was a miss for me. Rather than black sesame, this toasted more like the toasted white sesame seeds they sprinkled on top than anything else. Beyond the food and drinks, service here is solid - the workers have all been friendly and they get orders out pretty quickly. However, as so many of my fellow Yelpers have already mentioned, there's no denying that many of the prices here are higher here than elsewhere. While some of their staples, like their "quick cup" of coffee, espresso, and cold brew, are pretty standard (or close to it), I don't think the same can be said for some of their other stuff, especially their breakfast sandwich. Despite how unique some of Pixlcat's offerings may be, and as much as we tried to justify our couple of visits here, I'd be lying if I said we found it all to be worth the money. The closest would be their Black Sesame Iced Dopo Panna Latte and the Okonomiyaki Musubi, but even then, they're more of a splurge. Such a shame.

Love their black sesame coffee, nutty and creamy. We ordered a sample box of the butter mochi. It has a nice chewy yet firm texture and not overly sweet. Willl be back to try others options of drinks and pastry. Friendly staff, wait for order was not bad. The bathroom was out of order and so it was smell kinda funky in the back where we sat to wait for our order, luckily we ordered to take them togo so we didn't have to be there that long but that was unpleasant enough.

Happened upon Pixlcat Coffee! Wanted to try it, but unfortunately probably won't return. The logo and interior are so cute! The drinks were just not great. What I ordered: - Iced Dopo Panna Latte Honeycomb (2/5) honestly I'm not sure if I just didn't understand what a dopo panna latte was? But it was not sweet despite the honeycomb, and had such a weird spice flavor that I could not put my finger on. NO coffee flavor at all came through for me. It was just disappointing and I didn't even finish the drink. Don't think I'll be coming back to pixlcat coffee.

Almond Croissant & Black Sesame Mochi
    Joey W.

Stopped here for a snack after a bike ride and got the black sesame mochi and almond croissant. Black sesame mochi - chewy and soft but lacked the nuttiness of the black sesame. I did appreciate that it wasn't super sweet. Almond croissant - the flavor was good but the croissant itself was a little dry and didn't seem fresh.

    Iced Island Matcha
    Lexine F.

Pixlcat Coffee is a cute cafe that serves Hawaiian inspired mochi desserts and Island vibe coffees. We came around closing time but the barista was attentive and patient with it being our first time there. This is my second ever matcha place I tried and I definitely love this one compared to the first place I went to. I love how the matcha was airy and light and easy to appreciate compared to other matcha. I think adding the guava to the match gave it the umph it needed.

Chocolate Almond Croissant (7.8/10): This one was amazing! I will say that this one is definitely on the sweeter side but it was still delicious. It's a pretty big croissant with a good crunch but not a lot of flaking :( I did really enjoy the almond paste that was smothered on the inside. We waited about an hour on a Friday morning. On to the baked goods, it was some of the best bakery goods I've tried ever. Everything was delicious in every way. The namesake Pistachio Cardamom croissant was excellent for a filled croissant. It had excellent layers and the cream was just enough to add a lusciousness to each bite that wasn't too heavy. The madame lorraine was my other favorite. It was meaty and rich with the soft baked runny yolk and the light touch of rosemary was just enough to accentuate the bite. The not as good...a standard butter croissant. Maybe we got a dud but there was a serious lack of layers in ours and it wasn't as crisp or as buttery as I like. The elote corn croquiche filling was also quite salty which was a shame because the pastry layer was pretty good. I still have two more pastries to try but given the weight and the mixed bag, I definitely expected a lot more from Butter & Crumble. Pro tip: get a butter croissant at Arsicault, walk to B Patisserie and get a kouign amann. You'll have both before the line moves here.

Injeolmi (Mochi) Croissant - Wonderfully chewy with a balanced sweetness that lets the injeolmi flavor shine. 3. Hojicha Cream Puff - Rich hojicha flavor, a crisp pastry shell, and a generous amount of creamy filling. 4. Banoffee Croissant - My favorite pastry; rich, indulgent, and reminiscent of crème brûlée with banana, though definitely the sweetest and very filling. 5. Hotteok Pastry - Sweet, nostalgic, and a creative take that captures the flavors of traditional Korean hotteok beautifully. Overall, service was excellent and they're very nice to spend time explaining each pastry. Freshly baked. I love the korean twist and there's no other bakery like this that I've had. Definitely worth a try.

There is both indoors and outdoors seating with plenty of lighting and space to for customers staying around to enjoy the scenery. Wait time: There was a little line but it moved quickly and service was quick while standing in line. Two registers and lines to check out from as well. Service: Quick and friendly staff when going through check out queue. Food: The spinach and feta croissant was extremely well made with a slight hint of lemon to boost the flavor of the feta inside the croissant. I personally would have preferred a little more color on the croissant and crispier exterior but overall very tasty. Mexican Chocolate muffin was a nice size for the price of the muffin. However, I felt that the level of spice from the cayenne was a little overpowering and drowned out some of the chocolate notes. Overall, A very delicious bakery with good pastries and a lot of options to choose from. Staff extremely friendly and service quick. An easy to get to and plentiful option bakery for everyone.
