Spent time near Dogpatch and re-discovered this spot that had been on my list. We sauntered by and noted the lengthy dine-in weekend crowds, so we ordered food to go. The cafe was spacious with a second floor, and the interior was filled with cozy Asian fruit artwork and contemporary furniture. It was too late in the day for matcha, so I opted for a banana oat hojicha latte. It was refreshing and a bit too sweet for my taste, but the hojicha was roasty and tasted like quality tea. The banana flavor was a bit artificial, reminiscent of that Korean supermarket banana milk. We also tried the popcorn chicken and galbi patty melt. The popcorn chicken was crunchy with a bit of sweetness at the edges, but some pieces lacked crispy batter or substantial meat. The mochi pieces were a bit hard for my mouth as well, slightly harder than al dente. I wonder if it would taste better if heated up further. After my first visit, I knew I had to bring someone else here to try it, and this time we decided to try some of their food. We got the Sohn Breakfast Sandwich and Galbi Patty Melt to share, and let me tell you, we absolutely finished everything within 5 minutes. It was that good. I usually don't even like sandwiches that much, but these were honestly so enjoyable that I didn't mind at all. Both were flavorful, filling, and had such a good balance of textures that made every bite satisfying. Happy to be a regular at Sohn, a comfortable korean cafe offering a great place to work from home in the city and to spend time chatting away with your friends and family. I have been to Sohn at least over six times already and will continue to come here. Sohn is located 5 minutes away from the 22nd street Caltrain station, making it very convenient for commuters. However, for folks who are not familiar with the Dogpatch area, parking here can be extremely tough, so if you are not willing to spend a good chunk of time finding a spot or paying money, I would not recommend it. The free spots are usually only 4 hours max (which is pretty good for the city but still). The best time to come to Sohn is very early in the morning during opening. They have a lot of seating and it can be very peaceful and quiet, however throughout the day the traffic does increase a lot. As a note, if you decide to come here solo for dine in, they most liekly will put you either at the bar or upstairs in a communal table. They do walk you to seating, it is not open selection. As a note for Sohn, if you dine in, you will go on the left side of the shop where they will sit you to a table. On the table is a QR code where you order, and then they will bring eveerything out for you. If you want to go you line up on the right and wait to order at the kiosk. My favorite food items/drinks I have gotten at Sohn goes as followed: * Their banana oat hojicha latte, the hojicha is nice and toasty and the banana is pronounced and makes the drink creamy * Their pumpkin tea (actually one of the best teas I have ever had). I feel like Sohn is known for the matcha and hojicahs, but personally I do think one of their underrated drinks is their pumpkin tea (hot). It taste very homey, strong kaboucha flavor, and subtly sweet. I often order one matcha/hojicha to inhale and a secondary tea to enjoy slowly as I work. * Their popcorn chicken is chef's kiss. I think the rice cakes are nice and chewy, their chicken is juicy and flavored very well. It is also gluten free :) * They have Eric Kim's gochujang cookie which was made nicely, if you want a sweet treat Overall, Sohn is an excellent choice if you are around the area. Been wanting to check out this place. Got there before 10am and thankfully there was no line yet. The minute we got in, we were greeted and asked either to-go or dine-in. We chose to dine in and were seated right away. We ordered and paid through the QR code right away. Service was kind and quick. Matcha latte was nice and subtle, wish it was hotter in temperature but that's just my preference. Signature latte was perfect. Plain croissant was sweet and flaky, maybe better when warmed up. Popcorn chicken and rice cakes were so good with the seaweed seasoning! Definitely recommend. Place has plenty of seating downstairs and upstairs. Neat and clean. There are self serve stations for lids, plates and to-go boxes. Gets kind of loud with the chatter esp when busy, not sure if this is a good place to study or get work done. One thing about me is that I love, love, love a cute cafe. I've been wanting to visit Sohn for a few months now, but I finally got to try on my recent trip to SF! Ok, first: the vibes. It might be a little controversial, but to me, the ambiance of a cafe is most important! And at Sohn, the atmosphere is immaculate. It's very obviously a Korean-style cafe. The interior is washed in a palette of soft neutrals and pale wood. Lots of open spaces, airy lantern light fixtures, fabric tapestries, etc., etc., etc. So beautiful, and so perfect for photos! (My friend and I took lots, believe me.) The only "complaint" I have is that it isn't open seating; an employee will seat you when you arrive, so you can't really choose where you want to settle. Kinda bummed because I wanted to see upstairs. Even though I prioritize cafe aesthetics over food, I'm pleased to report that the food and drinks at Sohn are just as delicious as they look. Style AND substance! There's a QR code at each table, which you scan to order. The workers bring the items to your table directly, which is pretty nice. Here is a rundown of everything we ordered: - Banana oat milk hojicha latte: Wait, why was this so good? It actually might be one of the best drinks I've ever tried. You can tell they use real bananas; there are literally chunks of banana at the bottom. No artificial syrups here. The banana is sweet and creamy, not bitter at all. Plus, it's oat milk! Yay for my fellow lactose-intolerant friends. The hojicha was okay, though. I think that, if it were nuttier, the roasted flavor would've complemented the banana so well, bringing this drink to a whole new level. - Coffee hojicha: Pretty bitter if you don't add syrup, but once it's properly sweetened, it's pretty good. Since their hojicha isn't very flavorful, it's easily overpowered by the coffee, so I wouldn't recommend this one. (Though it's not bad.) - Popcorn chicken: This was so delicious and beautifully presented in a round stone bowl. The chicken was crispy and flavorful, and the fried rice cakes were a unique inclusion! They are rolled in a seaweed seasoning, which reminds me of furikake. Glad they have savory items, too. - Gochujang cookie: Meh, honestly, you can skip this. It's not a bad cookie per se, but it tastes like a regular ol' sugar cookie. I don't taste the gochujang at all. It's not even a pretty cookie, haha, so I wouldn't even order it for aesthetics either. But overall, I had a great experience at Sohn! I saw a lot of people working on their computers here, but it's also a solid spot for photos or hanging out with friends. Parking wasn't too bad when I went (a weekday afternoon), but I heard the line can get long. I would totally recommend this place, and I hope I can return soon to try more items. read more

I went when it 1st opened but I forgot to post! Located in the Dogpatch, it's a big space. There is Upstairs seating and it's in the old "Daily Driver" bagel space This little sandwich packs a punch. So flavorful. Tiny but mighty. We ordered from the QR code and it came fairly quick. Great space to chill. A really unique spot solid Korean dishes and Matcha/caffeine First time here was for drinks, and they were good enough for me to comeback and try more. The Matcha is solid, I've had it with the cream too and the second time tried the banana milk matcha. They are known for their house made banana milk and it's pretty tasty. No artificial stuff there The Hojicha is also a solid choice. Always love when Hojicha is an option to get those nice roasty notes. Second time around we also got the dirty Hojicha which is an espresso shot which has got me thinking I should make these at home. Finally got to trying the food 1) Galbi Patty Melt - Absolute must get. Galbi patty with grilled onions topped with melted cheese with kimchi + a buttered sesame croissant? Not only is this one of the best Korean things I've had it's one of up there for breakfast too. 2) Kimchi fried rice - comes with a sunny side egg which makes its a really solid kimchi fried rice (And I don't really like kimchi) 3) Popcorn Chicken - Love than it comes with some fried rice cakes. Never really had these before and I like it. Chicken is good. Your perfect snack to go If you're coming to visit Sohn you MUST get some food even if it's just to go. I do think that the food is better than the drinks. *Pro tip, if this is your first time heading here. The gps will take you to the front and parking is NOT available on the street so once you get in the area I recommend looking for parking because you will have to take a short walk to get to Sohn! read more
