We had a large team gathering while in for Cooperstown and the place was GREAT! We had called ahead and got everything set up for our whole team and all the parents. We probably took up most of the restaurant and they had pizza, salad, wings, and knots. Their pizza is New York style and REALLY good. They provided more than enough food and we had plenty for take home. If you are coming in town this is a perfect place to have authentic New York pies!!! read more

Pizza was reasonably good for outside of NYC (I ordered takeout and the food was ready at exactly the promised time) but I ordered wings to go with the pizza under the impression they were REAL wings (the full menu accessible via YELP does not indicate they are boneless balls of 'breaded chicken meat') and we were super disappointed with them. Great local pizza place! The service was family oriented and run. We stopped in around 4 and the place was quiet the owners were very nice and we ordered a large pizza! The pizza was a bit oily and greasy but close to NYC style. Pizza was also a bit small so everyone needed at least 2 slices to be full. They delivered pizza to our entire team at All Star Village after our late game was over tonight! Kudos for delivering 30 minutes past their closing time!! This baseball Mom is happy and I had to try a slice and it was absolutely delicious! Just remember to ask them to slice it "smaller" for the kiddos because original slice is big. Was recommended this place and tried it 3 different times and I can't find 1 good reason to ever come back. Their red and vodka sauces are bland and below average. The garlic knots were just okay and the boneless wings were again bland and below average . The menu seams to have reasonable prices but instead it's just small portions. The garlic knots, boneless wings and cannolis were tiny. The final straw for pizza 23 west was when I received my large pepperoni pizza in a box too small so a large portion of the pizza was folded over. The pizza came out late and also was drowning in grease and the undercooked cheese just slid right off. I will never be coming back to this restaurant and would never recommend it to anyone, quite frankly I have no idea how this place is still in business. "Under new management" but they certainly need new management again. read more

Been there 2 times in the last month or so. Food wasn't necessarily bad. It was ok. But both times they messed up the ordered. It's Disappointing when you order and pay for something and get something different. One time maybe a fluke, so we gave them a second chance. It happened again. The food was fair but nothing great. We got three pizzas plus a pepperoni roll for a family dinner. The grease level? I could've filled a swimming pool with how much grease was on the food. Had to deploy a stack of towels to combat the oil spill before we could eat. And the pepperoni roll was playing hide and seek--turns out, the pepperoni was the one hiding. We live in the area and decided to try the pizza from here after reading all the positive reviews. The good: They were friendly and had our order ready on time. The bad: No one was masked, staff or customers. Considering the numbers and transmission risk in our area, that's disappointing. The pizza was covered in crushed garlic. This appears to be a standard thing here, but it was not mentioned or described anywhere on their website. I know some people think there is no such thing as too much garlic-- but my wife and I are not in that group. The pizza was so strongly flavored of garlic, it was inedible. We threw it away. If we had known, we could have asked they not put it on. The only other thing we ordered were two large cannolis -- and the shells were both stale and soggy. They also ended up in trash. $40 spent and wasted. We will not be ordering from there again. read more

Pizza 23 West is a great take out pizza place for out-of-towners looking for good food for a good price. If I were a local resident, we'd order from the place often. We recently ordered and picked up on a Saturday evening not long before closing and it was ready when promised and served piping hot-along with a cold antipasto salad. The round pizzas are giant and loaded with toppings-a sausage and onion had a lot of both ingredients and the sauce to ingredient to cheese content was perfect. I'm a rare Chicago-area native/resident who prefers NY style pizza, so this was a treat! The White Pizza was terrific-I only had a bite, but I'll attach a photo to my review. Fried ravioli and mushroom appetizers were solid as was the aforementioned antipasto salad. read more

Worst place ever! We ordered a pizza to go, when I opened the box it looked like they had poured watered down spaghetti sauce on top of pizza dough! There was literally standing liquid with huge chunks of onion and green peppers! You would need a knife and fork to cut them up that is how large. Unfortunately, I had already paid. I don't know why it took us 3 years if CASV visits to finally go here, but once we finally did we went 3 times during our week. Penny & team are great. My daughter and I went in after opening ceremonies and debated margherita or cheese... we decided on margherita. Without asking the chef / owner (?) brought my daughter a slice of cheese and said "just in case". While there we discussed having our two team party (95 people) there later in the week. After contemplating the layout they decided they couldn't accommodate that many... but offered other options including hosting the party at Neahwa Park and having pizza delivered... which is exactly what we did, and it worked out perfectly. Best NY pizza I've had in a long time, comfortable environment & super friendly & helpful staff. (Penny also gave great recommendations for local & Cooperstown options). I usually love the pizza from here but tonight was a different night. I ordered an 18" pie that should have been 1/2 pepperoni and sausage on the left side ONLY with extra cheese on the WHOLE pie via Menufy. Menufy stated I would receive my order by 838pm EST. At 850pm, when I still had not received my order, I called as anyone who had $31 out in the universe would. Upon making the call, I had the pleasure of speaking to the delivery person JJ, who told me he had delivered my pizza to a building where I don't live and left it in the laundry room. When I asked for specifics and why he had not called me, he shared that he called three times and even used due diligence by using the emergency button to contact Campus Safety on the college campus where I live. When I asked what number he called, he shared that he had in fact dialed the last number of my cell # incorrectly- instead of dialing 7, he had dialed 4- which would explain why I never received any of the calls. The good sir JJ was apologetic and admitted it was his error. All fine. I then calmly requested to speak to the manager as anyone else would in this case. Things took a sharp turn when Penny, the manager, answered the phone. Penny came on the phone with a raised voice and firmly stated, "He kept calling you! So you can come here and pick it up bc I told him that after 20 mins of trying to contact you that he should come back to the store." (Mind you, I still had not shared that JJ admitted to calling the wrong number and that he left the pizza in a random place.) When I attempted to share that much and that I wanted a refund, Penny abruptly cut me off, raised her voice another octave and said, "You will not be getting a refund when he delivered it!" Feeling myself rise to Penny's level, I did the better thing and hung up, especially since she was clearly not in a state of mind where active listening was a priority. I then went on the hunt for my pizza. Here's where it got fun. Upon calling Campus Safety to inquire if JJ had in fact spoken to someone after pushing the emergency button, the dispatcher said yes he had called but that when they were about to call the number he provided, they saw on the cameras that he had gained access into a residence hall (the wrong one) by someone who opened the door at the same time. This prompted the safety dispatcher to believe JJ had met who he needed to meet, thus they never actually called me. When JJ recognized the person who opened the door wasn't waiting for a pizza delivery, he took the opportunity of utilizing the open door and walked in the building to the laundry room where he left the pizza on top a machine. Upon my entering the laundry room and opening the box - guess what? To add insult to injury, THE ORDER WAS WRONG!!! The WHOLE pie had sausage and pepperoni on it, much to the dismay of my partner. Still don't think I deserve that refund Penny? read more

Terrible service and very unaccommodating. Charged $150 venue fee, which we were not told about, didn't have a place set up separately and all together. Charged for ranch when asked for that in place of marinara sauce. Has a dog under the counter but won't allow outside cupcakes. No cups of water even offered, purchased bottle water of course. While I had the pizza there when I first moved in and it was good, the next round had hair in it. SO, I then checked their health score and it was 29! It went up to 45 and now it is at 65. I think I need at least a 90. So, I won't be going again. No more hair, thank you. read more

My husband and I were very excited to try Pizza 23 on the recommendation of a friend. The restaurant itself is small but very sweet and accommodating. The staff is also extremely pleasant and the house doggo is a welcomed, happy little visitor. We ordered mozz sticks and a plain cheese pie. Both were cooked perfectly and the sauce was really good. The crust on the pizza was a little different than I am familiar with--almost a cornmeal texture. Again, not unpleasant at all, just different than my native Queens girl was used to. My ONLY complaint is that we ordered cannolis for dessert. Th shells had been prefilled and were then refrigerated. Any cannoli fan knows that this is a big no no as your cannoli shell, which is supposed to have a nice crunch to it, gets soft and "chewy". This place is definitely worth a visit and we will be back to try the Grandma Pie which is from what I hear, the best in the area. read more

Millie would love what Richie & Penny have done with her old place. Had to stop in when visiting my wife's family after reading the reviews. Would Aunt Millie agree? Between the generous portions, the delicious pizza pizza (we tried a slice of cheese and a slice of the white) and lunch special (salad, garlic knots, chicken parmigiana and meat lasagna) we were full and sated.
