Walked around and since most eateries were closing too (it was only 5pm), we ended up at this small Italian restaurant. They told us we had to take it to-go since they were closing but there was a small patio with table/chairs outside. The food was pretty good but pricy for the small portion size. The food was terrible. We ordered the fettuccine Alfredo, with chicken (extra for adding protein). I asked, are the pastas made local? Or in house? No. Are the sauces local or made in house? No, we warm them up. Ok. How about the mozzarella bread? Yes, we make it to order. Ok. Let me describe this: two pieces of bread, no seasoning, no butter - just open face with shredded mozzarella from a container then placed inside the stone oven on the wall. In a medium nonstick pan, large tong full of wet noodles, one ladle of white sauce, toss them together. Boiled chicken pieces, BOILED chicken tossed into the pan. No seasoning or shredded cheese, or Italian seasoning. Served in a plastic to go container that cost 1.85 extra bc it was to go since they wouldn't allow us to sit w outside food. Although it was empty and we weren't taking anyone else's table. The place is clean. And bright. I also paid for the container for my bread. Pizza and Pasta Bar in the Pike Place Market is a great place tucked inside a narrow entryway in Post Alley, It is located right next to Pike Place Chowder which seems to always have a long line of customers outside. If that line is intimidating or wet (think rain!) then duck inside to Pizza and Pasta Bar for a delicious meal. While there we met the owners Bruno and Goli who were helping out behind the counter. They are the nicest people ever! So friendly and accommodating and always smiling. Their pride in their restaurant really shows in their care of the food and customers. I had the infamous meatball sandwich and my wife had the chicken carbonara. They gave us each a slice of their pizza for free as they had a bit extra from one that just came out of the oven. The food was prepared in front of you which is always interesting to watch and the charming brick pizza oven was directly in front of us so we could watch that process as well. Pretty cool. There are a wide variety of pizzas and pastas, desserts and drinks (alcohol too!) available on the menu. We ate at at the bar and had a wonderful conversation with the owners as they bustled about in the open cooking area. I enjoyed my meatball sandwich which had great crunchy crusty bread that held in the contents of melted cheese, red sauce and meatballs. A great choice to get when there. My wife liked her chicken carbonara and as the portion was pretty large, we were able to take some home for later. Extra yummy for me (ha ha)! The complimentary pizza slices were a hit for us as well. Napoli style with thin crust and flavorful toppings. We found out that Goli created the restaurant's design with the face of a woman that looks a lot like Venus in "The Birth of Venus" painting by Botticelli in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence Italy (just sayin'). Very friendly staff. Quick food preparation. When we were starving, this worked. None of the food we got was bad or outstanding. The place could do w sturdier bar stools and a bit more cleaning up bc the counter was dirty and prior customers' plates were off to side. I also noticed a lot of reuse of knifes across dishes in the prep area, so folks w allergy might reconsider. It looked like they had a few basic staples that they adjusted for most menu items. Went on a Saturday afternoon with myself and 2 kids wanting spaghetti. $115 for 2 average sized and average tasting pastas, garlic bread (that was a little burnt), 2 lemonades, and a $16 glass of prosecco that was less than a full pour and came straight from a Kirkland signature bottle. You order food at the counter (not sit down service) and a 20% service charge is automatically added for 2 or more people but not directly stated - I only know because I read my receipt. After ordering, we tried to sit at one of 2 tables in the place, but the woman behind the counter told us it was reserved and we couldn't sit. We crammed onto 2 stools at a small counter while many others crammed behind us over and over to pass. In the time we were there, no one ever came for the reservation and a group of 4 women sat there about 15 minutes later (not the reservation) and the other table remained empty. The positive is that it didn't have a giant line like everywhere else, but maybe that should have been my signal. read more

BEWARE of 20% service charge for parties over 2!! We were visiting Pike Place Market, we were STARVING, and in the mood for Italian food. We quickly dropped into this restaurant, ordered a VERY expensive pizza (46.00), a beer and a fountain drink. As I recall, our bill was just under $70.00, excluding a tip. When I looked at the receipt after ordering, I saw that we were charged a 20% service charge. So the pizza was "decent" but worth about 24.00 in reality, and the service charge was a complete surprise, although it is posted on the bottom (small print) of their menus, so, bottom line, our bad but I'm posting my review as a warning. Had we known about the service charge we would have chosen differently. This is one of my daughters favorite places to eat at the Market. We have been coming here for over 10 years. She loves the Stromboli pizza here and the spaghetti and meatballs. Brian had been a distracted, but acceptable host. For very simple items, the cost was overpriced. But I was happy to come here, to make my young daughter happy. We have revisited this place several times. The food continues to be rather mediocre and overpriced. Still happy to pay. I think the one issue I have here, is the lack of hospitality. The restaurant is located next to an excellent, very busy chowder bar. It is so popular, that the patrons find it hard to find a place to sit down. Pizza and pasta bar hates this. They refuse to serve anyone who does not buy everything from their restaurant. So some chowder or other food brought into this restaurant, will get you refused service rudely. The owner seems to be on edge, rigorously enforcing this policy. Which makes a customer who chooses to dine here, uncomfortable. I want to enjoy the ambiance. Not witness unpleasant interactions between customers and staff. I have no solution to this dilemma. You are offering mediocre food, at inflated prices. Chasing customers away with unpleasant attitudes is unfortunate. I enjoy your garlic bread, meatball sandwich's and pasta with a mix of sauces. After waiting in line for 20 minutes and told that we'd get a table, the rude lady told us that we would not be seated, even after ordering food from her overpriced restaurant. Why? Simply because we were HOLDING a bag of food from another restaurant that we had no intent on eating now but were saving it to go back to our room. She said "no outside food allowed," and when I replied that we weren't going to eat it, we were ordering from her restaurant for our daughter so she could eat, she shouted that she was too busy to "supervise" us and that she had a lot of customers (place was half full, as most people seem to get their food to-go). When I asked, "Wait a second. We're ordering for and paying for food here, and you're denying us a table?" She shouted that we didn't need to order at her restaurant. Well lady, sorry you're butthutt, clearly hormonal, and that you lack any kind of service skills, but here's your one star review for sucking at life & disappointing my nine year old daughter. We also got some drinks, water and a soda. Our total was over $70. The food took longer than expected, and was average. We were a little disappointed with the food quality based upon the pricing. We tried to get meatball as a topping on our pizza and were told they couldn't do that. We ordered a soda for someone in our party, who wanted clam chowder from the place next door. When he joined us, the staff was militant about not having him eat in the restaurant with us despite there being literally no other customers in the restaurant at ~4:30 pm. It sounded like the owner had drilled this into the staff. It took quite a while to get the food despite being the only people in the place. The food sat on the counter for a couple minutes before it came out to us. In short, this was not a friendly, accommodating place with good service. I had asked (and was charged for) the items to go. After I placed the order the older lady who checked me out, told me " go stand in the hall we will call you when it's ready." There was no body else in the shop, the whole time I had been there. I am not in a hurry to go back. It took 12 years for me to give them a try. Got charged $4 extra to add marinara sauce to my pasta dish. I've been to Italy and little Italy in Boston and San Diego not one restaurant ever charged to have sauce put on pasta. Also an automatic service fee of 20% for my three kids and my wife then still tried to have me select a tip. Im ok with tipping but when you don't drop water for us and it's self seating and they don't provide any extra service sorry. I wouldn't even give it one star. I clarified that I wanted tap water from the soda fountain, but they still charged me 75 cents. At first, her attitude felt unfriendly and pushy, with pressure to order more. Then the guy who was managing the tables said something to her, and suddenly her demeanor changed, she became overly chatty while we waited for our food. It came across as inconsistent and not genuine. The food itself was very expensive for the value, and overall the whole experience left me feeling nickel-and-dimed. And upon payment, their machine asks for an optional tip. I don't know what service this included as they just took our order and placed the plates on our table. No one came back to check on us. To our hungry disappointment, our portions were incredibly small. I was astonished at how small the portions were when we paid so much. I checked in on Yelp and was given a free garlic bread if I paid over $50. I showed it to the cashier and she agreed to allow me to redeem. The bread was amazing. Fresh and buttery. The added a "20% service fee" immediately while we were paying without even telling us. The owner also gave me attitude while I was waiting for my girlfriend to pay. I was leaning against the chair because I sprained my ankle a couple of days prior and he kept instigating and interrogating me on whether I was going to purchase something even though my girlfriend was literally at the cashier paying for both of us! After we paid, he then yelled "Don't bring any outside food or drinks while eating at my place" even though we had nothing on us. 0/10 for customer service.
