Went to Tavolàta on a Tuesday during happy hour and was honestly impressed. We started with the meatballs as an appetizer for two, but the portions were so generous that three people could easily share them. They were super moist with a really nice char and tons of flavor. The pasta dishes are also VERY well priced for the portion sizes , they are huge. Definitely don't skip the dried chili flakes they offer at the table. The Italian Old Fashioned was delicious too. Two is definitely enough unless you're looking for a whole lot of amore hehe. You'll absolutely leave with leftovers. Service was great, and even though they had two large parties and their payment systems were down, the staff still handled everything smoothly and professionally. Why haven't I written this review sooner? Who knows. While this was a pricey dinner for the two of us, it was delicious. The meatballs, olives, pasta, desert and drinks were all what you would want from a fun, modern Italian place. Staff were attentive and made the dinner. You would think it would be loud, but it's reasonable. We were here with some friends and really enjoyed the food and dinner overall! Beets were subpar. there is minimal ricotta, minimal presence of nuts and a sliver of greenery. Bread beats didn't taste too fresh. All golden beets were great. Despite the fact that dish has vinegar, it deeply lacked acidty and every bite had a different taste and texture. parpadelle pasta was much better, with the orange citrus being a nice touch. food came out promptly and service was ok. note that 20% surcharge is added to all bills regardless of party size or order. read more

First off I never give a 5 out of 5. It's very rare. This place met and exceeded my expectations. It's located in Bell Town which has a nice amount of eateries in It and walking distance to a lot of things. This was not a planned trip. We had missed reservations at our first spot so this was spontaneous. Entering the restaurant the lighting is intimate, layout is nice and flows and I really liked the community style seating. The food was amazing, pastas fresh and hand made, you can taste the difference between mass produced pasta and handmade. Everything was cooked well. Very flavorful and delicious. We decided to try out tavolata as it sounded promising. We had a prior reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. The ambience is a cross being upscale and industrial. The service was fast. We ordered some draft beer, croquettes, sausage rigatoni, salumi board and some veg lasagna. The salumi board was our favorite of the lot. The croquettes and the veg lasagna were a bit of a letdown as the croquettes were too dry and the lasagna tasted bland. The sausage rigatoni was decent. Overall, the food was average and the portion sizes were decent. Pricing wise, the prices were typical that of Seattle area. The dessert however, was too good. We had ordered some tiramisu to go and some crème brûlée. The crème brûlée was creamy and the tiramisu was perfectly balanced. Finally got to try this Ethan Stowell Spot! We came for happy hour on a Tuesday (4-6 PM) so all the below are happy hour prices. Beets ($14) - A MASSIVE bowl of roasted golden and red beets with a swipe of cheese and walnuts. They were wonderfully sweet. Bruschetta ($14) - We tried both the smoked trout and burrata flavors. Happy Hour at Tavolàta was a great decision! We shared a few small plates, which is my favorite way to dine, and everything was tasty. We had a crisp salad that had the ideal amount of dressing and a very unique smoked salmon bruschetta. While different from the classic version I'm used to, I'm so glad I tried it. The true star of the show, however, was the pasta. It was cooked perfectly al dente and had a depth of flavor that was incredibly satisfying without feeling heavy. I think our next visit will include at least one pasta dish for sure. Service was excellent that nice balance of attentive yet respectful of privacy. We arrived a little before happy hour, and our group of 7 got seated immediately. We waited till happy hour to order, and we ordered Herb Foccacia, Beef Carpaccio, and the Tavolata Spicy Gem & Chicory salad to share. I ordered the anchovy spaghetti with a side of two chicken and ricotta meatballs, and my partner ordered the paccheri. We also got a French 75 and Agave Fix for drinks. The bread was nothing special, and the carpaccio's texture was good, but the sauce wasn't spread evenly so some people got pieces of just raw beef. I know anchovies are salty, but the spaghetti was too salty! The meatballs were good but the more you eat it, the saltier it gets, and when I swapped dishes with my partner, the paccheri ended up being too bland tasting. I wish the seasoning for everything was more balanced. The drinks were delicious, and the agave fix is strong. The interior is dimly lit with little candles on each table, and the door area is all glass, which allows for lots of sunlight during Seattle summers. Overall, I would've given this place 3 stars, but our servers were great, and when we accidentally stayed a little over closing time, no one was in a rush to kick us out. read more

Had an excellent experience at Tavoláta Belltown. Sat at the bar and enjoyed happy hour prices. The daiquiri was great. We ordered the Caesar salad and croquettes for appetizers and they were both great, especially the croquettes. I had the rigatoni and it was fantastic. The meat was spicy and flavorful, really great pasta. I also tasted the pappardelle, which was good, but not as flavorful as the rigatoni. Our server Christine took amazing care of us! the place has a bunch of large parties and we were told ahead of time that food may take a little longer than normal but that was not the case! food came out quick and was coursed out perfectly. everything was delicious! we loved the bread, meatballs, bruschetta and of the pastas the ravioli and pesto were amazing! the restaurant itself is deceptively big and I loved the low lighting and intimate feel. the staff was all very kind and helpful and they even cut and served our cake for us! Personable, attentive yet unobtrusive service, and most importantly, quality pasta that hit the mark for us. Rustic Euro vibe with muted lighting, and a noisy atmosphere booming in conversation that quieted down as the evening progressed. I'm usually a fan of most all things tomato or pesto-based, but this time I decided to go with something totally different - a bowl of spaghetti seasoned with anchovy and Parmesan.. Now I know most of us including myself have a reflexive aversion to anchovies, but ya know.. it turned out delicious and really hit the spot for a new flavor profile. It reminded me of linguini with clams, but with a bit more kick to it.. Furthermore, the big spaghetti noodles were absolutely delightful in texture and bite - a perfect al dente! The other pastas that I sampled from my colleagues were good too, but again, I wanted something different and new and rewarding. Bingo! We enjoyed our time here. Pro Tip: Be aware that the restaurant (like some others here) adds a 20% service charge that (despite what it says on the bill) includes tips for the crew. This is my third time to Tavolata (second at the Belltown location) but it has been over 10 years since I had last been and I was disappointed overall. The food was ok but nothing knocked my socks off. I had recalled years before loving the meatballs but this time I found them slightly dry. The salads were fine (we shared a beet salad and the romaine and arugula salad) but nothing special. For my entree I had the cacio e pepe tonarelli and was not as creamy as I am used to and made me wonder if it had been sitting for a while before being served and then warmed up. The best of the food was the focaccia and the chocolate cheesecake. The service was subpar. We were a large group of 9 and perhaps that overwhelmed our server. We never got a formal introduction of the waitress of the menu or suggestions on how many appetizers/small plates/salads to order. It took probably 15 minutes for our drinks to come out after we ordered. Small plates and salads arrived quickly but our entrees took a long time and came out very staggered (some of us had our food probably 5 minutes before others). Then it took a really long time for our waitress to clear our entrees and she brought a dessert menu after she cleared our entrees. Then it took probably another 10 minutes for desserts to arrive after we ordered. We were there for 3 hours between when our entrees were ordered and when the check came and although we didn't mind because it was an old group of friends catching up, that amount of time was too long and due to the disorganization of the service. Between the very slow service and the just ok food, I couldn't recommend this restaurant any longer with the many other great options for food in Seattle. read more

I came across this place while doing a search on Yelp and decided to give it a try when we visited Seattle last week. Our Airbnb was about a 5 min walk away. Hostess greeted us warmly and promptly upon arrival. They had opened about 30 mins before we got there and there was only one table being used so we were seated right away. Our waiter was good and he had another person he was training shadowing him. We got great service except for the dessert which seemed to take a long time. We were lucky and benefited from being there during Happy Hour. Prices seemed a bit high but not too bad with some happy hour discounts. Deeply disappointed with my experience here. I ordered gnocchi and to my surprise it came out totally different than what's described on the menu. Apparently they change their menu items 'seasonally" but they can't update their menu to reflect their changes. Then we ordered drinks and the server came back shortly and said we have to order something else because they didn't have everything to make it. Okay, fine. BUT then my friend ordered a pasta dish, I can't remember which one, but the server came back for the third time and he said they don't have the noodles for it but they will replace it with something similar. & Normally, I'm not one to complain but this all happened in my one and only visit here. Good vibes and a good happy hour! Bartender was super friendly and other staff were very attentive too. They noticed I was looking at my fork for a while because there was dried cheese on it and a host immediately grabbed me a new one. Ordered the focaccia but forgot to take a photo. It was delightfully crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Sometimes focaccia can be very dense, heavy, and dry and this was the complete opposite. The pappardelle was my favorite for sure it had a nice spice to it and great overall flavor and texture. The eggplant parmesan was interesting. It had a very soft texture because of the eggplant and the cheese layers. The capers and sauces came together for a fun take on a classic. The pesto pasta came with a huge helping of cheese on top, which when mixed in, gave the pasta better depth of flavor. The pesto itself was very delicate, almost watery to me. I wouldn't get it again. The panna cotta was great, I normally don't order this since it feels so basic but the tartness of the sauce and the mint and fruit all make this such a good panna cotta. read more

Super cute place with awesome vibes. I had a martini which was well-mixed from the bar as well. Caesar was great, and fresh pasta was tender. The chicken meatballs are a must have. Service was good overall, but towards the end of the meal the waitress should have checked in a bit more frequently- we probably could have been persuaded to have another drink if she had. Since my last review a year ago I feel this place fell back into a "neither here nor there" category. I'm seeing "too salty" in other reviews and report the same for Caesars dressing, which also didn't have enough garlic . The braised short ribs were quite tough and stringy, not falling off the bone had one been in there. The Old Cuban, one of their drinks, too dilute to impress me. Service was fine . On that note, they add an automatic 20% service charge to the check; down from an in-your-face 22% last year. My friends and I love to go to Tavolàta to pregame a night out. We started off with the bruschetta and caesar salad. I looove the bruschetta, the pickled red onions pair really well with the smoked fish and the bread isn't too crunchy. The salad was also good, a solid caesar. Their pasta is so tasty and makes even better leftovers. My friend and I got the pappardelle and our other friend got the rigatoni. Both were delicious. I forget what the cocktails were called, but my friend got what I think was called the "Misty Martini"? It was an Earl Grey infused martini and tasted like alcoholic milk tea, amazing. The service and ambience are lovely. But the food itself is alright. The appetizers are delicious- the beef carpaccio is great and the hamachi crudo is so fresh and bright. The focaccia and bruschetta were also quite nice. I love a good chicory salad, but this one was a little overdressed for my taste. Great flavor (a small spicy aftertaste which was great), just masks the taste of the leaves a bit. My san Mateo sour was very nice as well. So I was very excited for the pasta but it was a tad disappointing. My noodles were quite thick and chewy and so didnt hold the flavor (which was rather bland other than the pepper) very well. There wasn't much Guanciale either. I also sampled their gnocchi which was new to me and it was also alright. Overall its a lovely place to come for a nice evening. Get the drinks and appetizers. I came here about two years ago with a friend and had been waiting to come back since (from out of town)! Glad I finally had the chance -- this was as good as I remembered it and hit the spot. We ordered the herbed focaccia and it was delicious. It was crispy on top but fluffy, and the cheesey olive oil was a good addition. I was also really happy with my bucatini entree! The bucatini noodles were cooked perfectly al dente. I liked the dish served with the egg yolk and loved the guanciale (don't see many places actually using guanciale)! It's not evident in the picture but there was a good amount for the dish too. We really enjoyed both our wines as well. Service was standard, nothing bad but nothing extra (wasn't expected or needed either). For ambiance -- I like that this is a relatively small and more intimate place, and we really enjoyed sitting on the patio on a sunny Seattle day. Pretty bad overall experience for the price ($100/person). Mandatory 20% service charge, and the servers know it. As a result we get gruff, slow, inattentive service. Our server forgot multiple requests, would go 20+ minutes between checking in, and we're pretty sure forgot to put in our entrees, because they took ONE HOUR to come out. Overall two adults and an infant took 2 hours for a "quick" dinner here. No wonder they had a table on the patio available for us on Friday at 6pm. Everyone else knew better! read more

There's a deal on Mondays and Tuesdays where you can get either 1) 2 pastas, 1 wine bottle 2) 2 pastas, 2 mocktails 3) 3 pastas ; all for $45! The downside to it is the service charge fee of 22%. I got their rigatoni with sausage and it was one of the best pasta I've ever ate. The pasta was well made and the sausage was delicious. Portioning was good. The Elder Elixir is a lemonade drink. I really enjoyed it. The Lemon Elder, however, was nasty. Did not taste like lemon at all and tasted like cough syrup. The service was good. The food didn't take too long to make. Servers were very nice and helpful. The food is pricey here but with the deals on Mondays and Tuesdays, it makes it more tolerable. The ambiance is amazing. A very intimate setting and a great place for a romantic date. There's plenty of seating and they have an outdoor seating and even a second floor seating. We've been coming to Tavolàta for years, which made last night a real shock. The dining room had a clear musty odor when we walked in, immediately setting the wrong tone. The room was semi full, but it's a small space, so waiting almost twenty minutes just to place a drink order still felt surprising. When our food arrived, mine was burning hot while my friend's was almost cold, and both dishes were flavorless. We've ordered these exact plates many times and know how good they usually are. When we mentioned it, our server told us there are new chefs and they're not doing well. It's the kind of experience that makes you rethink where you go out, and for us it confirmed something we didn't want to admit: Tavolàta just isn't good anymore. We won't be back. read more

I've had this place on my list forever and was so excited to come here, but I think I might have hyped myself up a bit too much. Came here with some friends on a Monday without reservations and thankfully there was room for us! Restaurant is super cute and ambiance would be great for a date night. We ordered the focaccia and several plates of pasta to share. Focaccia was a bit stale. The butter was delicious though and I loved the parmesan/parsley mixture on top. We got the tagliatelle and I felt like the pasta was a little overcooked/soft. The rigatoni with sausage was delicious! I wish they did more of a vodka sauce because I'm a sucker for that. Would also appreciate if they had some fresh ground black pepper mills at the table. I ordered the devil's nectar cocktail and it was super cute, but was halfway full in the glass it came out in - wish they could have added some ice or sparkling water to top it off to feel like a full cocktail. Good foot and great service! Big warning for anyone who is sensitive to loud sounds. If you sit in the main dining area, the echoes off the concrete walls makes sound bounce and was overwhelming for us. The olives and focaccia appetizer were good and so was the bucatini carbonara. I've been to Tavolata twice now. A couple years back when I first "tried" this restaurant, my husband and I were not greeted or acknowledged by any staff for half an hour. We were stuck upstairs with a huge party and no one paid us attention. So we walked out. Fast forward, we tried again with my sister and her boyfriend as a double date night. We sat down at 5, still in time for happy hour. We did a communal dinner ordering the focaccia bread, Romana dumplings, meatballs, rigatoni, pappardelle and tonnarelli pasta. Every dish came out very quickly, which was great however every dish was too SALTY. I mean very very salty. All four of us were quite overwhelmed. The only dish that wasn't too salty was the focaccia bread but boy was it so crunchy I literally stabbed my gums eating it. I guess I'm more used to the softer texture of focaccia. Pappardelle pasta was not cooked al dente. Whatever, we manage. We also placed a drink order. I asked for the Blood Orange Breeze. Others at the table asked for old fashion, wine, other cocktails. Anywho, the waitress comes back two minutes and asks me "you wanted a pomegranate margarita?" And I politely said "no, it was the Blood Orange Breeze". She repeats and said "got it"! Mind you, the difference is Blood Orange Breeze has zero alcohol compared to the margarita. When she gave me the drink later it really did not look like what I ordered. Salted rim, a lime wedge, looks pink? I gave it a try, indeed waitress messed up it was a pomegranate margarita...... I sighed and carried on with it to not cause a fuss at dinner. Through dinner, we did our best to finish each dish. Same waitress comes over and tries to grab a plate, knocking off a dish of tomato sauce over my sister's boyfriend's lap. She goes "oh oops!!!" And chuckles. Yeah no apology. He had to go to the washroom to try to get the sauce out and comes back with a wet spot on his pants. Sigh. I don't even think she realized what happened. She continues to stack as many plates as she could and almost lost the balance of those plates.. I think it would have been better to make 2 trips? You're not impressing me you're making me nervous. Anywho. Time to pay! Another incident happens. We asked the $225 bill to be split 3 ways. She charged my sister 1/3 then my sister asked "oh is there no tip option on this device?" Then the server pointed out there's an automatic 20% gratuity. UH NO. That's wrong. Service was not excellent to be charged 20%. Ethan, you should be paying your staff better and not rely on your customers taking care of their tip with mandatory 20%. Oh and it would be nice if the server would let you know about said gratuity when dropping off the bill. Anyway, she then charges my husband the rest of the amount instead of splitting it 1/3. She goes to say "oh uh, I accidentally charged the rest of it on your card but it's $150 so you can Venmo the other person $75" then she left. Like wow that sounds pathetic and made us feel very awkward at the table. Overall, dinner service experience was quite disappointing, so was the food. We left and the friendly gal at the bar said "bye thanks!" and i looked at our waitress and she's just staring into space- no goodbye, no thank you. Ugh. Never returning.
