We ordered a cheese pizza and a hot pastrami sub with cooked peppers and onions. Apparently their definition of cooked is toasted. Both the onions and peppers were hard, cold and crunchy under the semi melted cheese. The pizza was fair at best. Just passing through so I won't be back, but it was pretty disappointing. We purchased a home in Quechee in 2004. For the next 19 years, the one restaurant we could always count on was Pizza Chef we have seen many restaurants come and go during that time but Nick and his team have been the one consistent that we always go back to. Surprisingly for 18 years it was always just for pizza but this year we have tried the calzones, the wings, sandwiches and different salads. All of them prepared perfectly. The farmhouse pizza was our go to and still is, but whenever my sister visits from Connecticut, the first thing she wants is either a cheese or pepperoni pizza from the pizza chef. As mentioned above, I have tried several different sandwiches in the farmhouse, calzone and found them all to be well-made and extremely tasty. I am really not a wings fan, but I have tried them at least six times this summer, and have been amazed at how well prepared they are, and never over cooked. I don't typically like wings because I think they are not cooked properly and somehow the team at Pizza Chef serves them well every time. For something different try the ginger plum wings. I have seen a couple other reviews regarding the fact that you can no longer sit and eat your pizza indoors but like so many businesses, post pandemic getting workers and more importantly, reliable workers is not easy. The team Nick has working the kitchen and the front counter are exceptional and always have a smile for the customers . I discovered the back seating area by the mini golf, and would recommend it to anyone who wants to sit at the table and enjoy their pizza. The side order of mac and cheese was Kraft brand. It was priced at $4.90 pre-tax for the smallest portion that could fill only a baby's stomach. Sheesh! The pizza was good...until it wasn't. I got full pretty fast and had indigestion later. That rarely happens to me so I know something was up. To begin; this is in Quechee Village next to the Quality inn. The YELP listing reads White River Junction. But WRJ is 3 miles away. So I came over for a couple grinders. 2 smalls. (6 inch) One Tuna and one Salami. I wanted a Italian but she said it was made with 2 kinds of bologna and salami. Not Italian to me. I asked for Mayo, but they put on SO much. I like Mayo and I could barely finish it. If I go again , I ll put on my own. I paid cash and it is take out only. All the dining area is closed and converted to storage. They have beer and you can buy beer to go. I had my own. Very busy location! read more

Beware of their pricing! Online prices do not match what they will charge you when you pick up the pizza. Prices listed on their boards in the store do not match what they will charge you. When you ask why you are charged more than what they advertise both online and in their store they will tell you they were too busy to do update the prices. Really?! So unprofessional! Additionally, their buffalo chicken pizza with blue cheese was inedible due to amounts of salt I have never experienced before.I guess they can get away with it because there are so many tourists coming through. Very much like I remember it! This location was kept in the family from what I understand, and it shows. If you don't already know Pizza Chef, and you're reading this b/c you're from out of town and looking for options, you should know that Pizza Chef should be considered a tourist destination. Originally opened in Windsor, VT, this Greek style pan pizza is out of this world. It is its own thing, not NY, not Chicago, not Detroit, not Neapolitan. It doesn't need a schtick. The dough is light but stands up, the cheese has the stringy melt of mozz and a hint of sharp cheddar, and there's a reason the sauce is a heavily-guarded secret. If you are in Vermont, you need to eat at Pizza Chef. And I can definitely recommend this location. read more

Stopped here after visiting Quechee Gorge and playing some mini golf behind Pizza Chef, so we all worked up an appetite. We ordered three of the large pizzas so that everyone could have some. The menu isn't just pizza - there are some other dishes and sides too. Our pizza was pretty good, very cheesy, and a tad bit greasy. It didn't take too long to be ready. They call your order and you grab your food to bring to your table. The atmosphere is very casual, you bus your own table. We got a take-out box to save our leftovers. We ordered the Foliage pizza with vegan cheese and after having tried several other local vegan pizza options, have definitely found our new favorite. I really like this place. Always friendly. Always consistently good. The sauce on the pizza has something about it that is unique; tasty. They expanded to include a bigger bar area. Pizza Chef is a hidden gem in this quaint town. I wouldn't be surprised if one of these days it features on a food or travel channel show like 'Secret Eats'. The Eats: Delicious, fresh and some of the best cheese you've had on a pizza. This isn't NY style Pizza, Chicago or Italian but uniquely Vermont! Are you gluten free? This place is GF pizza heaven! Their gluten free crusts are prepared carefully (for allergies) and non-gluten free folks in our party agreed that the Pizza Chef GF crust is even tastier than regular crust at most pizza joints. Each pie is cooked to perfection and perfectly "Instagramable" for you city hipster patrons "getting back to the land" over spring break. The Vibe: This place is friendly and low key. Everything is clean, neat and unpretentious. The staff is friendly and welcoming (Barangrill comes to mind) and there's some arcade games for the kids. You can roll in here after a hike of the gorge, a catch-up meal with old friends or when your amazing kid wins a soccer match. Need to make a big order for your party? They've got you covered. I don't know how this place has four stars. The chicken Parm tasted like they took chicken fingers, put them in a bowl and covered them with sauce and cheese. The pizza was soggy and greasy. We were starving, so we ate it. They get one star for being edible and one star for being open when every other restaurant in quechee was closed. My wife is from Vermont, and this location is quite close to her house. She has been visiting here for a decade or more, but today's visit was my first time in for something to eat. First thing I noticed was they have several beers on tap. Something like 10-12 different beers to choose from. But since I don't like my wife's driving, I opted not to drink on this stop. :-) The Setup: Pretty casual in here, with plenty of space, and a TV playing the ESPN Bowl Games. They've also got several 'old style' video games in here as well. Pinball machines and arcade games from the '80's era. Therefore, if you have kids, great place to stop in and let them play around a little bit. The Pizza: We ordered up a Vegetarian (for one of my sons who has now been a Vegetarian for - 2 days, wonder how long that kick lasts, bwahah!) And also a pizza with everything (for me). The vegetarian pizza was not greasy and very tasty actually, and the pizza with everything was greasier, but that is the way I would expect a pizza with a lot of meat and cheese toppings to be. Very good pizza, cooked right, and tasty. Summing it up: Nice little place to stop in with the kids (for video games), or without the kids (for a beer). And great pizza. They have good pizza - the large size seems on the small side to me -it feeds 2-3 people in my opinion - just be cautious of that if you are feeding a hungry group. Sorry guys. I really wanted to like this place. Decent layout and above average beers on draft (sip of sunshine!). The pizza however, is not good at all. I live in the new haven, ct. area so we are spoiled with amazing pizza. Actually, we are spoiled with so many good Apizza style pizza. That's "thin crust" for the pizza novice. The pizza here is really oily and the dough is weird. It is perfectly round which makes me believe it is not made to order. Possibly frozen? The overall flavor was just bad. I tried this place because it was near my hotel (right nextdoor!) And was pleasantly surprised. It was crowded and noisy, but to me that meant popular, so I got my food to go. Service was a bit slow, so I would probably call my order in the next time. The prices were very reasonable. After a ridiculously long car ride up to Woodstock on a Friday afternoon in the summer, the last thing we wanted to do after we set up camp at the nearby Quechee State Forest, was cook dinner. It was getting dark and we were too hungry to wait too long to eat. So, we opted for Pizza chef right outside of the park. Expectation were low for a pizza joint in VT, and needless to say, they were far exceeded. We split a pizza with mushrooms and artichoke hearts and really enjoyed it. It wasn't NY style pizza and it wasn't Greek style pizza. It was thicker crust than NY and far less greasy than Greek. Ingredients tasted fresh and the place was clean, large and bright. Clearly not a destination spot but definitely a great choice for us at the time. read more

Don't waste your time, unless it's a hunger emergency. I ordered some chicken fingers and fries (hard to mess up). The guy who took my order was friendly, although, when I asked if they did cheese fries he seemed confused and said "no, we just do regular fries". Throwing some shredded cheese on top of some fries as it goes through the oven is hard, I understand. It took way too long for my order to come out. After a decent amount of time I went up front to ask about my order, only to see it'd been sitting out for a while. Who knows when I would have been notified it was ready if I hadn't gone up. The guy who took my order was out in the dining area shooting the shit and behind the counter was a ghost town (as was the place itself and now I know why). The fries tasted old (and like they'd been sitting out for a while) and the chicken fingers were still pink inside, flimsy and rubbery - terrible actually. If I get sick I'll be calling the Dept of Health stat. It's too bad - this place could have potential, it's in a good location and the menu is full of good house of pizza type foods that should be hard to mess up. Disappointing. I won't be back. You're better off grabbing some food at the local gas station market, seriously. read more
