Really enjoyed our recent visit for lunch at Pizza Hyena. Our server was super nice and informative which was helpful given their very unique menu of mostly non-traditional pizzas. We ended up trying the "Sour Puss" pizza which is essentially a dill pickle pizza with a white garlic sauce. It was as delicious as she described but I will say I'm a pickle lover and you better be as well if you go this route. The crust on the pizza is also awesome. No one has time for a bland cardboard tasting crust... Additionally we had the Caesar salad which is topped with Funions of all things, a fun twist on a classic. They have a decent but not super expansive beer and cocktail selection as well. Both cocktails I had were delicious. The location is great, right off the beach and the interior of the space is typical of beachside joints. Highly recommend! read more

People absolutely rave about this place and I can't guess why. Our service was extraordinarily slow. We ordered drinks and an appetizer of soft pretzels. When our pretzels came out, we ordered 3 pizzas. It was over 30 minutes before drink refills were offered. Our pizzas came out nearly 45 minutes after we ordered them. My pizza was ordered no onions and came out correctly but raw. They took it back to remake it and it came out covered in onions and raw again. Had never been here so we thought we'd try it out. Typical rustic pizza house decor with both inside and outside seating. Not alot of beers on tap and a limited liquor selection. All of the Pizzas are 10 inch and they do have quite a few varieties. It is a thin crust pizza and the toppings are generous. The pizza sauce was not overwhelming with garlic and the sauce was not overdone. Unfortunately our waitress was not very attentive, we had to ask for silverware and parmesean cheese and she never checked on us. Otherwise we would have given this place 5 stars. read more

Love this quirky little pizza joint! We discovered this place last year on our trip to Surfside. We now make it a point to eat there every time we visit the beach. You can't go wrong with their wood-fired pizza. Only one size, so I recommend getting one pizza per person. We loved the Hyena Balls and Redneck Caviar. The wings are awesome too! My husband and daughter did not like their pizzas. I on the other hand loved my sandwich and the redneck caviar. She had a pepperoni and bacon pizza, he had the Ur Bacon My Balls pizza. They were both disappointed that they did not have any pizza sauce on it. It was pieces and whole slices of tomato. They called it rustic sauce. Whatever was left over, they each threw the rest away. We typically eat here at least once when in Surfside. Typically their pizzas are very good and I would recommend. The last time I got pizza to go and it was terrible. --tasteless and had very little cheese and toppings. I ended up dumping it. Because of my prior experiences, I will give it another try.
