Fun little place located downtown Surfside. Fire stone oven pizza - huge variety with clever names to boot. Indoor and outdoor seating which is a plus when it's hot outside although indoor is rather small so it's gets relatively loud when you combine people and loud music. Full service bar. The Brie pizza I ordered was different but I'm a really good way! I would recommend this place but not if you want a relaxing meal. Very close to the ocean but no view. I'm only giving this a three based on the fact that I know how good the pizza and wings are here. The wings are absolutely the best I've ever had and the pizza is fantastic. But tonight we walked in to get our usual and we were surprised at the outcome. We ordered a glass of the Cabernet and were handed, a for lack of a better term, shot glass pour. We asked what happened to the normal glasses of wine, he said "it's a 6 ounce pour. We gotta do what we gotta do", that was the bartenders words. Didn't like that attitude. They have an excellent location at the end of Surfside Drive and Ocean Blvd. There is a good amount of parking available. They have indoor and outdoor seating, an exciting atmosphere and a super friendly staff. Not to mention excellent pizza! I was tipped off about this place by another local business, the praise heaped upon this place by him seemed exaggerated but I was definitely interested in trying something new. Unfortunately, this bar should be listed in Yelp for being a bar or a local hang out not for pizza. The menu is very appetizing. Especially if you are going to hang out with a group of friends. However , the menu does not clearly state the pizza size. If you were looking for a place to take your family for a pizza dinner-- this isn't it. The two pizzas I bought were basically the Peppy Longstocking and the Belly Laugh. Sounded great on paper and looked good but that was as far as it went. Tasteless and disappointing. Both of the pizzas were a bit overcooked. Each pizza you had roughly 6 small pieces. No pictures from me. Most of the pictures seemed a bit accurate on yelp already. I absolutely loved my time at Pizza Hyena and was so glad I decided to give it a try since I was staying at the hotel next door. As someone with a gluten allergy, it's rare to find gluten free pizza and, if so, one that doesn't taste like cardboard. I also loved the variety of options, as I had never seen pork belly on a pizza and had to give it a try. My server, Sally, was so pleasant and you can tell she truly loves her job and customers. I absolutely love this place!! My boyfriend and I went twice during our trip because we loved the size of the pizzas (not too much) and the drinks. Their daiquiris + mojitos are to die for and are reasonably priced. We ordered hyena balls (similar to meatballs) with tomato sauce as our appetizer, the hot chick pizza (Buffalo chicken), and the ricotta pizza. I wasn't a fan of the ricotta but we were very pleased with the hyena balls. The second time I ordered a Hawaiian type pizza that was amazing! My friend ordered the margarita pizza and was really pleased as well. We love this place because it is beach front and there is usually a musician playing on the deck. My family and I ate here while staying in Surfside Beach. Our house was within walking distance. The pizza was very good. The pizza is a personal pan size I would say, Thin crust, and brick oven cooked. My daughter loved the mild sauce on the side with her pizza. I ordered the Red Roasted Pepper Hummus as an appetizer and it came with celery, carrots, and pizza pita slices I guess you would call them. They were good and made in the brick oven. The hummus was nothing special. Their is no parking near the restaurant though. You have to park across the street in the public parking area and pay. We took our golf cart and it didn't seem to be an issue. They are in a parking look of a hotel and you can't park anywhere. read more

Pizza had black flakes on bottom of crust from the oven which was rather gross, leaving a burnt taste and took away from the actual flavor of the pizza. The Ham & Cheezy Sandwich was very tasteful. My favorite was the Bruschetta. Our daughter had the Real Brie Slapper ordered without the Hot Honey Drizzle but came with it anyway. The server had to have it remade, things happen so we understood. But when they're crazy busy the extra wait was annoying. Everyone was finished until she received her food. We've been here before it's definitely a hit or miss, never consistent. Pizza sounded good and we were lucky to have this place right next to the hotel we were staying at. They seated us right away but they do get packed so call ahead to find out wait time or be ready to wait. We had the pepperoni pizza, tomato bruschetta and some barbecue wings. We were about to leave when he finally showed up to take our order. We sat outside for our meal which was a mistake. There was a large trash can near the entrance to the restaurant and the outdoor seating which was swarming with flies. When our food finally arrived, the flies turned their focus to our table. It was a constant battle swatting flies away from the food. This may have just been an off day for this restaurant bit if it's this way all the time, it's not worth the price. read more
