My favorite pizza spot in the burgh and I'm so lucky to have it so close to home. The crust is definitely thinner than those at Spirit pizza, which I love. The breading is perfectly fluffy, but crisp at the same time. Also, the fixings on the specialty pies are fresh and different than your typical pizza shop (i.e marinated artichokes, truffle cream, hot honey drizzle, Calabrian chilis, etc). Tropic Thunder is the way to go if you like pineapples on pizza!! They are almost always busy so I would totally recommend placing your orders earlier than later. The only downside is that they are closed Sundays and Mondays (sigh). read more

Fiora's is a distant 2nd and not near in quality. Busy! Busy! Busy!!! I came on a rainy night in late September after hearing all the great buzz. I am a kinda last minute person by nature so did a walk in order at ~6:45PM on a Friday night. I was told it would be at least 45-50min which was just fine, so I parked on one of the two metal barstools across from the register and took it all in - the delicate dance of pizza prep, banter/shit talk, and the conviviality of the 4 guys - pizza masters - in the kitchen. The lovely lady behind the register was as sweet as can be as she rang up the endless stream of take out orders. **This is a strictly take out pizza joint it should be noted.** These guys know what they are doing and despite working hard really enjoy and take pride in their creations. Everything was worth the wait, so get yinz over there and get in on that deliciousness. The ingredients are good, but the cheese, toppings, and sauce are fairly limited, such that most of the taste comes from the very charred crust (which may be a positive for some). Growing up in CT I had high hopes... it was good pizza, but I was expecting great! While I loved the char flavor I found the crust extremely tough/chewy and lacking crisp. We had the traditional pepperoni which really could have used more sauce and the grandma pie which was more flavorful but the crust was still the hang up for me (just so tough). Pittsburgh's pizza game just got stronger! Pizza Lupo packs full-blown flavor onto a thin, crispy crust. We tried the Tropic Thunder (Large - 18") - while pineapple on pizza is controversial, this elevated version was a winner. The tomato sauce and smoked mozzarella have the perfect savory balance to counteract the sweet roasted pineapple, and the strips of bacon combined with the kick from the jalapeños, onions and chili oil round out the pizza. Toppings are carefully arranged so each slice and bite are balanced and the crust holds up the toppings well with good structural integrity and without collapsing. Two slices was plenty for dinner. Lupo's meatballs (appetizer) came with 3 meatballs for $7, which is on the pricier end, but the delicious juicy meatballs drenched in sauce and cheese were worth it. Guest service was friendly and efficient. Our pizza box was built inside out which gave us a good laugh. Prices here are comparable to other artisan pizza shops in town (e.g. Driftwood) and the quality is on par, if not better. I would love to see more specialty options with multiple meats but there are plenty of ways to create your own meat lover's pizza. Overall, excellent experience and delicious meal! I'm kicking myself for having lived in the neighborhood for six months and only now gotten food from the fine folks at Pizza Lupo. My wife and I got a house salad, calzone, and two pizzas and everything was phenomenal. The crust is crispy and flavorful, yet fluffy. The toppings and sauce and cheese are all rich but not overwhelming. The flavor profiles were all incredible. All in with tip it's about 2x what you'd get from a chain, but boy was it worth it. Ooooh Pizza Lupo is SO good. They were closed for a little while for renovations, and we are so happy they are back open! Pizza Lupo is located at the far end of Butler Street near Remedy and Dive Bar & Grill. They specialize in thin and crispy gourmet pizzas. They also have grandma's pies (Sicilian), but I haven't tried one yet because I love the round ones so much! I don't know what I love more - the dough or the sauce. The dough is light and airy and has a great crunch. It has lots of air bubbles! On the other hand, the vodka sauce is awesome and so is their marinara! Combined - this is the perfect pizza! Some of our faves include the margherita, drunk meatball (that one has vodka sauce) and the new burrata special. I do wish we would have had the pizza right as the burrata was added, but I assume it melted immediately. It wasn't that different from the margherita pizza, but we had to try it! There is a convenient parking lot next to the pizza shop which makes pick up easy. Place an order over the phone or on their website. Hoping to try more of their menu soon! read more

Pizza Lupo is our favorite pizza in Pittsburgh - both the crust and the toppings are the best!! The crust is perfect, puffed edges with a nice crackling texture. This crust is so good that I eat every last bite (I often leave the edges with other pizzas). It has enough solidity that you can always pick up the slice with no saggy, drippy tips to burn your fingers. Both the basic toppings and the specialty toppings are perfectly distributed spatially so that you get a mixture of everything in every bite. The pepperoni ends up with that elusive and delicious cup-shape with crispy edges. All of the specialty pies we have tried have been delicious, with creative flavor combinations that work well together. The Tropic Thunder pizza is our all-time favorite pizza, with its smoked mozzarella, bacon, pickled jalapenos, roasted pineapple chunks, chili oil and fresh basil. Tried this new joint for National Pizza Day. Called it in early (5pm) because I was scared of waiting 2 Hr+ for pizza. I ordered an order of Lupo Meatballs and a Grandma style Tropic Thunder pizza. A large focaccia style pizza with crushed tomato sauce, smoked mozz, broadbents bacon, roasted pineapple, jalapeño, shaved red onion and chili oil. Wait time 30mins! Success. Arrived to pick up and they were very friendly. Got home, the order was correct! The Lupo Meatballs seemed to small a portion for the price. $7 for 3 meatballs. They were very flavorful! Pizza was a great value for the price. My boyfriend and I ate twice from this pie $26. Excited to try their other pizzas soon! read more
