We live in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh and have been meaning to come to Pizza Lupo for some time now. We finally were able to get down on a recent Friday evening and took our pizza to go and promptly ate it at the nearby Highland Park. We called our pizza order in several hours before pickup as we know this place gets busy--especially on a Friday--and we also wanted to get this as a "Grandma Pie" which is also somewhat limited in availability. The staff were super friendly when I showed up and chatted me up while I waited the few minutes for the pie to be ready. It's clearly a busy operation but seems to be really well-run and lots of other people were coming in and out. As mentioned, we took our pizza to-go as they don't have any seating on-site. Even with the drive the pizza was still nice and hot when we got situated. I really enjoyed the chewy crust and thought the sauce was well-seasoned too. The toppings were generous but well balanced as well. This was a great pizza and a great experience. Would definitely come back. read more

This is hands down my new favorite pizza shop in Pittsburgh. What makes this pizza special is the crust - nice chew and texture. The ingredients on top are high quality as well. Not a pretentious or fancy place by any means but the pizzas are fantastic. I was able to find street parking close by. The service was good but the wait to get the pizza was long - not sure if that's the norm or if I went at a time when it was exceptionally busy. Regardless, I can't wait to go back again. read more

Being from Jersey I'm automatically a pizza snob. It's only fair and accurate because you can go to the most random spot in Jersey and it'll still be better than 90% of the spots in Pittsburgh. Since moving to Pittsburgh I've discovered that finding a good pizza spot is liking finding a unicorn. This is a unicorn. Pizza Lupo is without a doubt the best pizza I've had in the city that sucks at making pizza. The crust has a solid crunch to it, dough is fluffy throughout, sauce has ACTUAL flavor depth, it's not loaded with unnecessary amounts of cheese to hide the fact that they know their sauce/dough is garbage (Aiello's and Mineo's). Me and the fam stopped by yesterday before our flight back home to cali. We got a large cheese and pepperoni around lunch time. Oh cant forget about that turner tea. We ate about half of each and took the rest on the plane. My wife that me and the boys are crazy but it was just to damn good not to take with us. Needless to say we are now eating lunch and the pizza is still good. Not that same as eating there. But still better than the local pizza about by us. Definitely recommend this pizza read more

Authentic pizza, I actually was parked nearby and decided I wanted pizza because I could smell the fresh dough baking. Then I saw a ton of people going in and out and figured it was worth a try. It was pricey, for a small and large pizza with toppings, it came out to be $50. But when there's quality and craftsmanship that goes into a product, I think it's worth it every time. read more

Is it worth the hype? Probably so. We were at Hop Farm for an event and decided to try somewhere we haven't been for dinner. I suggested Pizza Lupo and we placed our order online as we wrapped up. Good thing we did--the wait time was 80 minutes at 6:30 pm on a Saturday! Pickup was fairly simple and we took our Arthur Spooner home. The pizza is wood fired as we saw toasted edges. The dough is amazing. Chewy even though it is on the thinner side. There is some heat from the hot cherry pepper. The sausage is thinly chopped and well scattered throughout the pizza, so you get it with each bite. Glad we finally tried the pizza. It's definitely solid and we will look to try the other specialty pizzas! read more

Fantastic Vodka Pizza. Really liked the sauce and the crust. Well done. Meatball are always amazing and delicious. The only thing I rate as average (at best) are the wings. They always seem to soggy. Pizza Lupo is a great little family-owned spot on Butler Street for takeout. I ordered a pizza and salad and it was fresh and ready on time when I came for pick up! The staff was very friendly and it seemed like they were doing good business on a Friday night. I had a hard time choosing what pizza to get but ended up with the burrata which was so delicious! The crust was crispy and has a great consistency and the burrata added lots of flavor to the pizza. I also enjoyed the house salad that had lot of great veggies in addition to fresh Parmesan and crispy chickpeas which were a nice touch. read more

Ordered pick up and got the upside down Grandma, which is a red top Sicilian. It was crispy on the bottom. The best pizza I've had in a while. I look forward to trying the round. And I'll update this review when I do. Yeah, I had to go pick it up, but it was great and I'll do it again. Price for the upside down Grandma was $25. Which isn't too bad. I'm amazed at the amount of equipment they put in the shop. I remember the old pizza place Thats Amore that was there before and I can't understand how they even move around, but as the guy was saying when I walked in, it is a symphony of movement. I've heard about Pizza Lupo for quite a while and have always wanted to try it. I've stopped when it was closed or close to closing, at first I didn't realize that it's a too go place. Well after Dave Portnoy stopped and reviewed it recently I forced myself to make the trip down when it was open. I parked next door in the bank parking lot because they were closed and walked in to order. I knew my order because I studied the menu before coming like I was prepping for an exam. The inside was bustling with people working and people waiting. It smelled great inside. I ordered a small drunk meatball. It looked so good in the photos others had posted to Yelp. I was told about 15-20 minutes. So I strolled down the street a block or three and grabbed a beer from a favorite brewery and walked back up and my pizza was ready! I walked outside, grabbing a plate and napkins with the pizza. I opened my hatch on my car and laid my pizza there and opted for a tailgate lunch. I ate two slices of pizza there before heading home. It was amazing. So fresh, so crispy, so good. This pace definitely lives up to the hype. I took the pizza home and had another slice that day. The next day I had the remained of the pizza while watching the Steelers. I placed the pizza in my air fryer and it came out nearly as tasty as when I first got it. The small pizza was actually pretty darn big with each slice being big. The pizza isn't cheap, I think my small was close to $24, but I got two meals out of it. My son is now wanting me to take him too. It's tremendous and I'll be happy to return again. read more

So we had gotten carry out here before and loved the pizza, service and experience. Yesterday was not so great. Ordered two pizzas and sent my partner to go grab them without being super specific on what he was picking up, this being my error. He went and came back with one pie. I called the restaurant because I wanted to make sure that I wasn't charged for the 2nd pie, and they said oh you didn't order two. Yes, indeed I did. The order was even read back to me correctly before I disconnected the phone call to order. This was really frustrating because we were planning on sharing with friends, and now we were short on food. And Lupo's is just too far to make a 2nd trip. Oh well. Live and learn, and feel stupid when you get scolded on the phone for someone else not doing what they needed to do. I'll sum this up. Their pizza is fantastic. This is probably a fluke, but it's not fun to be made to scramble with company coming over. Happy Eating, just probably not here. read more

WOW! They have great pizza. I had sausage and pepperoni. It was better than I expected. It smells amazing as you walk in the door. You won't be disappointed. Friendly staff. Take out only. No place to sit. It doesn't matter. Eat in in your car. You won't make it home without taking a bite. Crispy edge and tasty sauce and crust. I will be back. read more

A solid takeout pizza spot. Ordered: - White Pie, 9/10. - Tropic Thunder 8/10. Both pies had a crisp crust, not anywhere near burnt. Nothing about the pizza was greasy, and the ingredients were noticeably top notch. They don't skimp on toppings, but don't overdo them either. The white pie is as good as you'll find. The tropic thunder was a big surprise for me, as I usually find pineapple way too sweet on pizza, but this one nailed it with the mix of heat from the jalapeño and the smoky bacon to balance it out. Other note, we called right at dinner time on a Friday night, and it was an hour wait, which I think is very reasonable turnaround. For our appetite, one pie would have been just enough to feel full and satisfied (for the two of us), and for the price of $19-20 for a more upscale pizza, we will be back. read more

This is without doubt artisan pizza. And, it is decent pizza, don't get me wrong. I just don't think it justifies the price tag. Over $18 for a margherita pie that isn't all that huge (normal size for a large), it wasn't exceptional in my opinion. Definitely not bad, though, and I could see it being an occasional treat. This place has a lot of specialty pizzas like the one with Vodka sauce, which I think is there most famous blend. I tried out the classic Margherita, which may be why I was a bit underwhelmed. I also heard they have great meatballs. The pizza crust was good, and quite thin. It is done in the charred style, almost like the Neapolitan pizza of Mercurios but more sturdy (you can eat it with your hands and it would be clearer than a Neapolitan). There was a good amount of basil on the pizza that added a little burst of flavor. I would have liked there to be more cheese. The pizza sauce was unique but a bit acidic. Lots of herbs, which is appreciated. Decently crispy, and arrived in a fair amount of time (ordered through Slice). All in all, not bad pizza. It's just a bit in the expensive end, and I'm not sure that the extra cash is worth it. Thin crust, herby sauce, low on cheese. Would consider trying other pies like the Vodka. read more

Downloaded the slice app specifically to try Pizza Lupo because I couldn't find them on door dash Ordered the upside down grandmas pizza and large pepperoni cheese pizza. The regular pizza was great but the Grandmas pizza was an absolute win - 10/10 with taste and texture... I don't know how to go back to non-grandmas pizzas... Great pizza! I ordered the half pepperoni/half plain small pizza, had six fairly large slices! Gave classic pizza shop vibes! You could tell the dough is homemade, and the cheese is a really good quality. They also had those delicious little cup pepperonis that we all love. If you are in the Lawernceville neighborhood and looking for good pizza, stop at Pizza Lupo. Very tasty pizza with a thinner crust and nice sauce with just enough of the Italian spice. The Grandma Pie (Square Pan Pizza) is so good. They only make a limited amount daily but I tell you it's a must! The crust really does remind me of cooking in my Nana's kitchen as a kid and the pizzas she would make. Extra cheese and sopresatta make for the perfect pie. read more

For the first time, they started accepting credit cards, with a 15% fee. (I had already taken out some cash to pay for the pizza, since they previously had a cash-only policy. Now it's more convenient.) It's not a fancy place, but they have both counter and booth seating.

I've been a regular at Pizza Lupo since they opened, and the craze surrounding the pizzeria is entirely justified. SOOO Good!! As someone who works in Lawrenceville, I feel incredibly fortunate to have this gem in my neighborhood. Every week, I look forward to bringing home one of their specialty pies. I have been known to obsess over the Arthur Spooner pie, or the classic Italian sandwich is AMAZING! This place never disappoints. This pizzeria has also become my go-to place when entertaining clients from out of town. My colleagues and I love showcasing the best pizzas the Burgh has to offer, and Pizza Lupo never fails to impress. read more
