Ordered half and half pizza to pick up. When we got home saw one of the halves was missing the toppings we ordered. The bottom of the pizza was also black and the crust dry and black on the rim. We messaged them asking for a refund to our card and never heard from them. We have ordered their pizza before but now will never order again. Wish I would have taken a photo to post here. read more

Pizza Rio is hands down the best pizza in Chaffee County. The pizza is NY style and they are huge! Their sandwiches are also absolutely fantastic. While staying in Salida we ordered a pick-up order online from Pizza Rio. Pretty amazing view from upstairs on the 3rd floors too. We picked up a DBag Pizza to try something different and see what they are working with here. This pizza was absolutely perfect for what we wanted in a New York Style pizza for dinner. Beautiful setting, and the pizza was absolutely wonderful - I had capicolla on mine, and IMHO, it should be on the topping menu for all really good pizzerias. NY style crust - perfect thin style with a great balance of crispy and chewy. I had a Penelope Cruiser IPA draft which was very nice with the pizza. When they say 20" pizza, they mean it!! These pies were BIG, but had a super thin crust. Think New York street but thinner. My kid never eats crusts, but he ate these. Delicious flavors on the Margherita pizza. And it is rare to Find a good cannoli in a small town, but these folks did it. Wife and older son really liked the sandwiches too. After reading mixed reviews on PizzaRio, decided to try it out for myself. I'm a big pizza fan and love cold pizza for breakfast. So, on to the pizza. We tried a customer favorite, the Big Drop (tomato sauce, shredded mozzarella, green chilies, goat cheese, fresh basil, roasted garlic, Italian sausage). The crust was NY thin and had great chew. Flavor was awesome! I was worried about the pizza being too greasy as other complained about, but I didn't see that. Also had the arugula and spinach salad and that was perfect to share. Great house dressing and fresh ingredients. Service on a Friday lunch was fast and friendly, our server recommended we sit on the patio, I was skeptical as it was 40 degrees, but it was heated and the view phenomenal. Now back to breakfast, the pizza cold was even better than it was fresh out of the oven. Get the 20" so you have extra! My only observation would be to chiffonade the basil and scatter it across the pizza. A minor gripe, but would enhance the flavor. Definitely one of the best pizzas I've enjoyed. It was extremely busy after the annual brewers rendezvous and the place was operating flawlessly under stress including a day with a town power outage and building plumbing issues. Pros -Lots of parking nearby -Indoor and outdoor seating -Their sauce is just amazing - simple and nice sweet but slightly tart balance -Honestly, this might be the best chicken parm sandwich I have had in the state. Lovely fresh bread, nice breaded chicken and good sauce to cheese to bread ratio. -Had to try a classic cheese NY style pizza and it was great. Cons -No smaller sized pizzas (only choices are 16" or 18") -Priced fairly high - $33ish for a sandwich and pizza -KNIT PICK ALERT - but wish the pizza had a bit more sauce and cheese and a bit more sauce to cheese/crust ratio. Could easily adjust this on my next order. Overall, will be back to Pizza Rio after a long day in the mountains. read more

Talk about a family friendly place with really great food and service! Blakely and Marissa were really stretched as it was a very busy Thurday night in Salida but their attitudes were wonderful - warm, friendly, fun and funny. What could have been stressful, ended up being delightful because they never lost their cool. Re: the food: The pizza was good, the Greek Salad was great and the Chicken parmesan outstanding. First bad sign was when we arrived for pick up was told it might take a little longer as they got slammed with big order then suddenly ours appears. Took back to room. Hubby said meatball sandwich was good but side salad was small for the extra charge and looked like it was just thrown in the box. I ordered eggplant Parmesan with spaghetti what I received was eggplant sandwich with chips. Don't really care for bread or chips but oh well I'll deal with it but eggplant was very tough and greasy.
