As a self-proclaimed pizza connoisseur, I recently found myself temporarily exiled to Burlington for work. It didn't take long to identify the state's core competencies: Producing world-class cheese Perfecting brick oven pizza Aggressively curating a very specific political vibe Curiously, only two of those things are edible, and unfortunately, you can't get pizza without being reminded of the third. Also worth noting: I'm not convinced any other style of pizza exists in Vermont. If it's not artisanal, wood-fired, and served on a reclaimed barn board, it apparently doesn't make the cut. So naturally, my brain locked in and I ate pizza two nights in a row like a creature of habit. Night 1: Pizzeria Verità Parking was...aspirationally convenient. After navigating downtown Burlington, which feels like a live-action sociology thesis, I made it inside. Let's address the elephant in the room: the price. With tip, I dropped nearly $30 for what amounted to a personal-sized pepperoni pizza that politely declined to fill me up. I assume part of the cost goes toward sourcing ethically massaged tomatoes or ensuring the mozzarella had a fulfilling upbringing. Now, to be fair, the pizza was excellent. Truly. Great crust, quality ingredients, clearly crafted by someone who cares deeply about their art. But the value? That's where things get a little...Vermont. Delicious? Absolutely. Filling? Not quite. Our server checked on us twice while we dined at the establishment , did not share any nightly specials, and did not provide the attention to detail other patrons were receiving. We opted for the Pizzarao Pizza [named after the owner], which is a classic combination of toppings and herbs. Dinner at Pizzeria verita. I have eaten here before. They have gluten free pizza. This time I ordered agluten free pie but said they could cook it in regular oven, They actually have a separate gluten free oven, They brought a delicious looking pizza. I took one bite and said to myself that this is too good to be Gluten free, I called over wait person who said it was not gluten free and whisked it away. I suspect if i had it made in separate oven i would have received the gluten free pie. But the error is on them and beware and be sure whenever you order gluten free anywhere double check that what you are being served is gluten free!!! read more

It's impossible to have a bad meal or poor service here. The food is seriously to die for and the service is beyond excellent. We ordered the pizza of the day, a white sauce pizza with chanterelles and truffle oil. Was divine. The Margherita was equally excellent. For drinks my friend got a glass of red wine and I had the Botticelli's Daughter (Prosecco, grapefruit and a few other things that were so refreshing!). For an appetizer we had the meatballs (polpette), which were delicious. We ordered the Rucola Pizza with prosciutto cooked into it, which was amazing and we would highly recommend. We finished off our night with some yummy tiramisu and an espresso, which was a perfect ending to our meal! Honestly, the pizza was the least impressive part -- it was gorgeously cooked (if a tiny bit blackened at parts), and it came out at record speed, which was a bonus since we were with two young kids. The flavor, though, was a bit on the bland side, which surprised me because we each picked pretty flavor-intense pies. Either way, it was a solid pizza, if not super memorable. The service, though, was the highlight. Our server was delightful, and she even brought dough for the kids to play with. I was worried it wouldn't be a particularly family-friendly outing, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn't the case. This was our second time dining at Pizzaria Verita. We enjoyed it in the fall when visiting our UVM student, so we wanted to try it again. We had an 8pm reservation, but our 6:30 flight from DC to Burly was late! We had our daughter call to say we would be about 15 min late. Well, upon arrival, bags took a bit longer than expected. We didn't get to the restaurant until 9. I hopped out to see if they still had space for us. The lovely hostess told me they had indeed saved our spot!! We were so excited! We started with the fresh mozzarella which is always delicious, and the meatballs that are to die for. I had the Bianca, which was so good and the prosciutto and arugula was a great combo. This is, in my opinion, quite possibly the best pizza on the East Coast. Especially, if you require a gluten-free dough. The restaurant is elegant, has an exceptional bar and features a prep bar where one can sit and observe their pizza being made. I highly recommend this! However, it is first come first serve. Otherwise, make a reservation because Pizzeria Verità is appropriately popular. For context, we drive two hours just to eat here. Yes, we spend the night and make it a proper outing. Good flavors, awesome concept but poorly executed. My pizza was charred on the crust which is fine but then the center wasn't even cooked all the way, dough wasn't done , way to much flop. For like almost 30 bucks after tax the pizza was fairly small, could have looked past that if it was cooked properly. Had a pleasant time with friends last night at Pizzeria Verita. We all got individual pizzas, and shared multiple antipasti sides. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and we all were raving the Nutella pizza we shared for dessert. The food is great. The inside of the restaurant is very dark, but it has a nice cozy feel to it inside. The only complaint I will note is that our server did not write our orders down. She had to come back to the table after forgetting what we ordered. Throughout the night, she would forget to bring items we asked for. My friend asked for another beer, and it never came. He didn't remind her because at that point we were already done with our pizzas. I'm not sure if it's a practice that all the serves do here at Pizzeria Verita, but if you're not going to write stuff down, make sure you have some experience doing so. read more

Really good pizza - the sauce, cheese, meat and seasoning is simple and high quality. My cocktail was a bit too sweet for my liking, but they had a good selection of wine and beers. The service was stoner-spacey, the server tried to bring us another table's food twice and he forgot my friend's cocktail. Space was nice, but it was very stuffy when we went and you couldn't feel the A/C, which would have been nice since it was in the high 80's. Made a reservation for our one and only night in Burlington last weekend. We had been traveling all day and went around a half hour early with growling stomachs. It was no problem at all and the friendly hostess sat us quickly. We were seated next to a large open window overlooking the street- perfect weather for this and we enjoyed the view. We loved the look and decorations in the restaurant and thought it had a great Italian vibe. Our waitress was also friendly and genuinely cared about why we were in town. She visited with us for a while and followed up with being quick with drinks. My stepdaughter got a fancy nonalcoholic green tea drink that had lime in it- tart and refreshing. I ordered the sparkling rose and had two of those- delicious! Let me start this by saying we were very hungry- and our eyes were bigger than our stomachs! Caesar salad with anchovies on the side, bread with dipping oil, and olives, cheese, and prosciutto. All very tasty. The bread was a perfect mix between soft and crusty- love that. We then ordered three pizzas. This was an over order- but we had leftovers for lunch the next day. We did a spicy pie, an arugula topped mozzarella, and a white burrata. Awesome! There are about 5000 pizza places in Burlington, I've been to all of them, and this one is by far the best. The bar is also really great, especially as a place to order food and try a few new cool drinks. One suggestion, though from the outside at night, it really looks like this restaurant is closed. Because of the reflective glass, it looks like the lights are off inside. A nice big illuminated "open " sign might go along way. Just a thought. read more

This might have been my favorite dinner on our recent trip to Burlington! In short - you should go. First: delicious cocktails. Second: Gluten free pizza. Third: AMAZING gluten free pizza. Fourth: Adorable space that perfectly bridges casual with a fun night out. Fifth: Great, friendly service. We came up with our own concoction using one of their pizzas as a base and adding ingredients to our hearts' content. Gosh it was good. Bad pizza that takes a little under 1.5 hours to make if you dine in. Not sure if something was going wrong or if that's just typical. Our pizzas had a sparse sprinkling of toppings, no seasoning. Service was embarrassingly terrible, but the food runner was kind and apologetic for the long wait. read more

Visited Pizzeria Verità for the first time last night and was blown away. The food was delicious and the service was great (Manny was our server), but what really blew me away was the portion sizes. I'm so used to a $13 salad being a side salad with a single piece of lettuce and half a crouton, but the Amalfi salad was enormous and full of flavor! The create your own antipasti was also a ton of food - we chose 5 items and it was almost too much! The pizzas was very good, as well. They weren't as enormous as the other items, but tasted great. I had the pepperoni pizza with hot honey. The pizza was off the chain, and the hot honey gave the pizza a fantabulous flavor. The texture of the crust was perfect, and the pizza sauce was delicious. For my beverage, I ordered the nonalcoholic "I'll text you later" and "east Indiaca" drinks, which respectively had wonderful taste with a nice bouquet of mint leaves as a garnish. My absolute favorite Neapolitan style pizza! The staff is always friendly, attentive, and accommodating and the food is consistently superb. Many of my siblings have small children and the staff always go out of their way to make the night special for everyone, even giving the kids dough to play with at the table.
