Pizzeria Virtu, like many pizza spots in the Scottsdale area, specializes in wood-fired pizza using high quality ingredients. Located in Old Town Scottsdale, it's more of a cozy upscale spot that gives off European eatery vibes rather than a typical pizzeria. They have both indoor and outdoor seating like many places in Old Town. If you're like me with simple and more traditional pizza tastes, you might need to look up some of the ingredients in the pizza descriptions online or ask your server. Luckily, we had an extremely kind server who gave us a "fancy pizza ingredients for dummies" type of overview and let us know what "scamorza" is (a semi-soft Italian cheese made from cow's milk that's pretty similar to mozzarella cheese, but firmer and with less moisture). As their specialty is wood-fired pizzas, we went with the standard margherita pizza and decided to be a bit bold with the Affumicata pizza (with charred tomato, smoked scamorza, roasted garlic, and basil). I preferred the margherita pizza more while the Affumicata pizza was an absolute hit with my dining companions. While wood-fired generally isn't in my wheelhouse for styles of preferred pizza, both pizzas were extremely high quality and flavorful, as you could really savor the quality of the dough, cheese, and other ingredients with each bite. It was probably one of my freshest tasting pizza experiences since visiting Italy. Service was extremely friendly throughout the meal and it was a treat to have a view of the chef masterfully rotating the pizza in the wood-fired oven. I'd definitely return and would recommend a visit to Pizzeria Virtu to others for a high quality wood-fired pizza experience in Scottsdale. read more

Can I give 10 stars??? We attended a dinner at another location where Chef Gio was featured. Once we tried his food, we just had to find this place. Look - I love pizza - all kinds of pizza - but this was just.... Beyond expectations. The atmosphere, service and food are top notch. Intimate space allowing you to savor the sights and smells before anything even touches your lips. I wanted to eat slowly - savor every bite - but I found myself unable to resist the temptation and finished off almost a whole pie by myself. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a wonderful staff. The energy of the place was vibrant and Happy loved the music in the decor. Our waiter Jacob was probably one of the best waiters I've had in all my worldly travel. He was kind ,attentive, and a master at his craft. My husband and I saw an episode of Check Please! and this was one of the restaurants that was featured on that show. It looked so good that my husband and I made reservations immediately and decided to take my brother there for an early dinner. We loved the atmosphere and the service was outstanding. I ordered one of the white pizzas and it had prosciutto mozzarella, garlic, and spicy sausage and it was delicious! My husband had the pork chop, which was huge! They pounded it down until the pork chop was very thin and then they fried it and topped it with a Sunday sauce and mozzarella cheese! My husband loved it! My brother had some sort of pasta with a vodka sauce and that was outstanding! We started the meal with an appetizer of meatballs. They were so tender and flavorful and huge! Bad vibes, bad service. Didn't even get a chance to taste the food and drinks. Went here to celebrate a friend's graduation and rejected in every area. As much as she wanted an espresso martini and as we were being directed to go to the bar but then requested to leave the bar area by the same hostess that told us to go there. Very frustrating place. Came here around 6pm on Wednesday after grabbing appetizers and drinks elsewhere cuz we were craving pizza. It wasn't too busy at the time. We sat at the bar and ordered cocktails and a pizza. Our bartender was pretty cool and chatted with us. Everyone in there was friendly, even the guests sitting next to us! Food: had pizza, limited options as u cannot choose individual toppings as in regular pizza establishments. There are 7-10 preset pizzas which are more of 'gourmet' pizza and we had the 4 cheese and it was good with a nice thin crust which was wood fired, but a bit on moist side. No condiments on table; parm cheese, red pepper flakes etc. Service: a real turn off. A gal in clothing advertising rest greeted us at hostess podium. Immediately asked if we had reservations; no we replied. Ok, I'll have to check says she as she walks away. Another gal in office clothing saunters up to podium, no eye contact and blurts out 'do u have a reservation?' I start to say 'oh, another gal went to check for us' while ms dk long haired gal in stilletos just grunts and against asks about reservations. Mind you it was a Fri at 7:00 pm but out of 8-10 tables on the patio had 2 occupied. She looks around and squeees us next to a couple a/a crying newborn while 6 tables opposite are wide open! Shared a wood fired pizza and a bottle Italian red wine.. was all perfect. Olive oil cake for dessert. Service was amazing and now the heat is lower at night, we enjoyed sitting out on the patio. I've been here multiple times and it never disappoints. The appetizers are great, the pizza is even better, and I can't seem to order anything besides a cannoli for dessert so I can only speak to that. This is def one of the more hidden gems in Scottsdale and you can tell because as a local I will brave the heat to go have dinner! read more

A nice Italian pizza/pasta restaurant in Old Scottsdale. Small inside with a cute bar, and great outdoor patio seating. Each table has its own heating lamp tilted toward the table guests, which was nice and gave off just the right amount of heat to keep us warm but not hot. The menu is very short and succinct: A curated list of starters, 4-5 olive oil based pizzas and about the same number of red sauce pizzas; a few pasta dishes. Full bar using higher quality liquor, too. Our party of three started with their Bruschetta app, and it was very good. The tomatoes were fresh, great flavor (not tarty!). The roasted garlic cloves and almond slivers went so well. Wish the baguette were warmer (fresher out of the oven), but it wasn't too bad. The five stars is for their Burrata starter dish. It was phenominal. The. Best. Burrata. I've. Had. To. Date. The inside was creamy and not runny and paired perfectly with the prosciutto and figs they braise in a sweet red wine sauce. I could easily eat this protein-packed dish three times a day for the foreseeable future, the flavor profile was that decadent. We all shared two pizzas, Milano and Patate, and both were excellent. Wood fired, thin base with airy and flavorful crust, delicious toppings on olive oil (I'm not much for tomato/red sauce). Each had great flavor profiles. A heads-up: Parking in Old Scottsdale can be a bit tricky on weekends, so make sure you account for extra time looking for street parking or free/paying lots. The outdoor seating looked very relaxing for a nice evening out, but I'm glad we actually got seated inside, where it was the perfect balance of lively, cozy, and intimate. It was like he had an out of body experience while he was eating it and he savored every last bite. For dessert, we had the torta, which was an olive oil cake, topped with apricots, whipped cream, and marcona almonds - yum! Throughout the dinner, we had a front row view of the guy making the pizzas. He didn't seem rushed at all in making the pizzas, it was like his form of relaxation. My favorite pizza right now. Came here for date night and never fails. The quality of the pizza is unmatched and I've tried a few different kinds the times we have come here. Our most favorites are the spilinga and diamanté. The spilinga has this spreadable spicy Italian sausage that is just so so good. The diamanté is a white pizza with prosciutto on top. Another one I liked a lot was the potato pizza and the ny ish pizza. The potato pizza does indeed have potatoes which is surprisingly really good mixed with garlic and rosemary. For our meals, we went with the server's recommendations and ordered the Milano pizza and the Pastaciutta. We were underwhelmed with the pizza and the pasta. To start, the pasta did not have much flavor and the noodles did not taste homemade. The pizza felt a bit undercooked, we weren't able to pick the slices up at all; that's how flimsy it was. Darian knocked it out of the park ! He must have sensed by our questions, that we are particular about our wine selections. I know...pretentious AF, but hey...we are willing to pay a fair price, but as a couple, on the opposite sides in our tastes. Without even asking,Darian offered tastings prior to a final decision, and i really appreciated his knowledge of the variations of each wine. He lead us both to our hearts desire. I settled on the Corvina, and my hub enjoyed the Barbera. We shared the Burrata w/ fig & the Calabrese Pizza. Wow...order both those things and arrive hungry! Generous portions, and we preferred a lil more bread...that marcone glaze on the burrata should not be wasted. I will say that the dough for the pizza is not quite crispy enough to qualify as the worlds best, but the overall flavors put this pizza as my #1 in the valley...and we eat way to much pizza to meet the average life expectancy! The bar reminded me of beautiful experiences from back when I lived near Melrose in LA...pretty bar & the best customer experience I have had in years!
