Vito's reminds me of the very first pizza I ever had, at the age of five years. It is freaking awesome. So is Pizzicata. It's just lots less pizza for the bucks. Vito's makes their own sausage. I've been here several times as I keep hoping the service will get better. The pizzas are terrific and unique. The food is excellent! The service is has been painfully slow every time. Servers rarely return to check on you after you get your food. We sat by the door tonight and watched several parties get turned away 20 mins before closing time. Five stars just aren't enough to give this restaurant!! MOST AMAZING food. The owner, Federico Venturini and his wife, are very warm and welcoming. The food is incredibly delicious and authentic. The pizza crust was perfect - thin and flavorful - no leaving the crust behind like I usually do! The sauce was the perfect amount and not too much of it. The !!was melted perfectly and the ricotta on the pizza was a great surprise (I wouldn't have thought of putting ricotta on pizza) and went well with the other cheese. The Nduja sausage was also a great surprise. It had just enough spice to eat and such wonderful flavor, making your taste buds come alive! It was a great experience. We sat out on the patio and had a beautiful view of the golf course and mountains. It was so relaxing and the weather was perfect for it. We initially went there to hopefully buy some imported ingredients for a homemade dish that we'll be making, but he no longer has the little market in the back, but he actually took out of his own restaurant refrigerator a 3lb. tub of ricotta to sell us! 100% amazing!!! This is a restaurant Mesa needed. We have become big fans of Pizzicata. We love sitting on the patio while we watch our kiddos run around on the grass (being respectful to golfers, of course). Our server Jessica is amazing and always provides amazing service. Our favorite pizzas are the Sophia Lauren and the Peperoni Pizza (forgot the name). The kids also love watching Mateo throw the pizza dough and do tricks. Bummer - was so excited to try this brick oven spot but was turned away instantly. As I climbed the stairs to the top, I come across a sign that says to go to another entrance. Weird, but ok let's go to the other entrance. We walk in after two gentlemen and they were seated instantly. They took some time to come to my partner and I, but it's ok. As they come to us, they say the kitchen is backed up and it's taking an estimate of 45 minutes to be served food/pizza. They said they can't seat anymore and waiting was not an option. We could have been there for a drink but they did not care. They asked if we traveled far and we did. L They turned us away and made us feel completely unwelcome. We arrived at 7:30pm and their yelp says 10pm is closing time. Afterwards I even called asking how long the wait is for 3 people and they said there was no wait and to come in, and they said they close at 9pm. We were thrilled to know that this tired old stuffy 80 years + golf restaurant was being updated so we tried it out. We arrived on a Wednesday at 5 and sat near the live music (the musician, Shane was awesome!). We looked over the happy hour menu and once we figured out who our server was, ordered discounted wine and beer. Appetizers were 20% off so we splurged on the $18 calamari/shrimp. How disappointed we were when it arrived in a tiny folded down paper lunch sack. For that much money it should have been much bigger. And there were only 2 shrimp in the small bag. We then ordered two Caesar salads for 4 of us to share and the 20 x 10 "family style pinsa" for $28. The salads were tasty and so was the pizza but it was so small! It would have been better to order two small pizzas I guess. The guys didn't even get filled up. Then we had the canolli- four tiny shells and a "not sweet" ricotta, filling. I was not expecting it to be so bitter. We also had the lava cake which was also good but very small for $10. When our bill came, it was a shocking $185 (with tip). And turns out, the tiny appetizer was NOT on the happy hour menu even though the menu didn't specify it. There were some other happy hour charge issues that were resolved once we could finally flag down our waiter. I know they just opened and I certainly want to give them grace because I understand how it is to be new at something. And the place was very busy so good for them. But my overall impression was that the prices were way too high for the ambience (guy working the pizza oven loudly rings a bell every time a pizza is ready like it's Mel's Diner or something) and the amount of food we received. I do want to give it a second chance and try another pizza. The entrées sound delicious as well, but again, prices are very high. I'm planning to give them maybe six more months to get established and then pay them another visit. If nothing else, maybe I would go for a beverage at the bar and listen to the great live music, they offer! read more

I ordered a pizza to go after a day of golf at Painted Mountain. Omg. I got pepperoni, sausage and mushroom. It was delicious. The crust was perfect crispy-chewy. My husband and our friends went for dinner last night (Valentine's Day). We were seated out on the patio. It was nice, but we were freezing! They had patio heaters, but everyone was moving them around which left us with no heat! Our waiter came out after about 30 min told us she would bring us water soon. We asked if we could order drinks, (which we did). We received them 30 min later, still with no waters. The drinks were ok. They were about 3/4 full with no garnishes. About another 15 min later she came back we asked if we could order. She told us the system was down and she would be back. We sat there and waited. 2 hours after we were seated, we Finished our drinks. then had to find someone to close us out so we could leave and find somewhere else to go. We spent $64 for drinks and no food or even bread. We also watched a few tables get seated, order and recieved food before us! The table behind us recieved half their food, then were told they ran out of the specials after sitting there for 2.5 hours. We were looking forward to trying the food. Overall, all the food was excellent. The staff was super friendly. We had asked for water as our drinks but did not get water at first. I had a big drink, but didn't know of what. I told the waiter, and he apologized, took it away, brought water back, and told us our cups got mixed up with vinegar. We were ok with it cause it wasn't anything that could have hurt us. When the bill came, we assumed we would have gotten a discount for serving us vinegar. BUT no $50 later, we walked out. Again, the food and staff were super nice. They had a specific Christmas eve menu of 7 fishes of Christmas that had I known prior to, I'd have tried it all seafood. Now onto the food.. had the pizzas pictured , i'm an east coast pizza guy ( NYC, NJ ,PA, ) out here for New York style pizzas it's difficult to find a quality pizza.. this place is it! I can tell by the taste that they use San marzano tomatoes and fresh ingredients . I'm definitely gonna be back there. Prices were decent for the quality. Now the only thing that i considered kinda irritating was that there was a group of people about 15 that were seated next to us and their kids were absolutely out of control and running around and trying to physically climb the walls yes! Running at the wall and trying to use their shoes to climb up it and jump back down. Now I know that it should have been up to the parents to curb their 3 kids and I understand it was Christmas Eve, but the staff did nothing and said nothing to the parents despite being aware of it obviously and despite how after a full HOUR plus of bouncing off of the walls and screaming that I finally felt it necessary to say something to my server Megan.. she seemed to have her hands tied with being able to say anything to the family about disturbing other patrons. First time here. Sat inside but they have a nice patio area overlooking a golf course. The aroma when you walk in smells so good and delicious. Very casual place but everything looks clean and new. My husband ordered their Old Fashioned and i had their Mule drink. We ordered the Wagyu meatballs as our appetizer and the Travolta pizza . Loved the Mule. Very tasty. My husband said his drink was ok but he thinks it is because they put amaretto in their version of an Old Fashioned. The meatballs were very tender and tasty. The wood fired Travolta pizza was good.
