Delicious either way, bbq sauce is a little on the thinner side. For the next time, I think we will order a pound of pork ribs. My grandsons really ate them up. Thats why we ended up getting a dinner plate of it as well. White onion, pickled onions and jalapeños one with the orders. It was good with everything. Dined here on a Saturday about 2p. Not crowded at all. Seated right away, ordered and food came out fast. Queso got hard because we didn't eat fast enough, but server was happy to warm it up for us. Been to Pizzitola's years ago when the original family owned it - an iconic establishment. Returned last evening for dinner with friends.earthed from them that the ownership changed 5 years ago? Place was empty barring one other tabie; perhaps because we were there early. The exterior and interior haven't changed - interior was clean - although very warm (a/c turned off?). We were greeted and seated promptly - our server/manager was very friendly and eager to serve - which is quite rare and refreshing these days. Food consisted of three platters: pork ribs and Jalapeño links, pork ribs with elote and mac and cheese, and pork ribs and chopped brisket with elote and baked beans. A couple of Modelos rounded off the table order. Food arrived quickly - the links and brisket were on point, while the ribs could have been moister. Beans were fine as was the elote (although watery at the bottom, perhaps due to frozen corn being used); while the mac and cheese was mushy. Ordered chocolate cake and pecan pie to go, since they were advertised as made onsite. However they disappointed - the cake was so-so, dry and not very chocolatey, while the pecan pie, although thankfully not too sweet, had a funny, kerosene-flavored crust! Couldn't finish either - threw them away, sadly, after paying quite a bit. The meal (with to-gos) and a decent tip cost $51 - rather high for the quantity and quality on offer. First time here... absolutely love this place. The ribs are insanely good. Other things are nice, but the RIBS overshadow all else. Love the people who run it too. The manager, Tim, noticed I was really into the chow, taking photos... and asked if I'd like to see the BBQ Pit in the back. He explained EVERYTHING they make, cooked right in the pit.. pecan pie too... check the photos. Thanks for bringing me back Tim! Our waiter, Esteban, was a gem. It's not pizza! Met a friend for an early dinner on a Friday (@ 4 pm). This was a new place for both of us so it was an adventure. It's a mom and pop spot with some TVs (sports) and gives an old fashioned dive. It's very clean including the restroom. There were two staff at the front who initially was a bit slow to acknowledge us but once we met, things got a little more friendly. We both opted for the two meat combo. Order: starter was jalapeño cornbread with cinnamon butter Entree was brisket + jalapeño cheese sausage, Mac and cheese, and potato salad. Jalapeño cornbread (5/5) - this came out warm and so decadent and delicious - like a warm hug on a winter day. Def a must try. Brisket + jalapeño sausage (4/5) - the brisket has a nice meat to fat ratio and the brisket was moist and tender, sausage was ok - I think I would have preferred the pork sausage but the jalapeño caught my eye - I anticipated that it would be spicy but it was not. Potato salad (4/5) - recommended on Yelp and it was def smooth and nice and perfect ratio of ingredients - throughly yummy Mac and cheese (3/5) - it was just ok So it came with pickled onions, pickled jalapeño slices, dill pickle slices and regular white onions - they got the pickling down perfect; the pickled onions and jalapeños were so very good and went well with the bbq I know on Yelp there were some complaints about the bbq sauce being more liquid but I actually felt like that made it not overpower the natural flavor of the meats. They ran out of chicken so my friend opted for the turkey and gave me a piece and I'm always hesitant with turkey bc sometimes it can be dry but it was really tasty There was an in and out of customers even at 4 pm. A HTX staple since 19???, original owner passed away. Now there are small, incremental updates. besides some decor, signage, etc. updates the menu now includes amazing beef or chicken enchiladas! I believe the beef enchiladas are made with brisket. Lots of folks like their pork ribs to start. I won't ask and don't tell me if you know what is in their BBQ sauce. A little does go a long way so I imagine heavy duty ingredients lie therein. If there's room afterwards, try any one of the desserts. You'll likely need a nap later. read more

The brisket is super moist, super tender and well seasoned, it can hold its own with many of the establishments in the city. Spareribs are well smoked, little dry, but very good nonetheless. The cabbage is high point, savory creamy and bringing sweet heat, sprouts are good and I really liked the mustard potato salad. The BBQ sauce is not thick and liquidity. I wouldn't call it bbq sauce, its like in between hot sauce and bbq sauce mixed together.I bought the corn to balance it out the saltiness. Today we visited the oldest bbq restaurant on Houston (1935). The small but very capable wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. The brisket and sausage were excellent and the mustard potato salad and cole slaw were average. The sauce needed a bit more zip for my taste, and the condiments included pickles, jalapeños, onions, carrots and pickled onions. The sliced brisket sandwich was more than enough for one meal. I understand that Pizzitola's is the oldest bbq restaurant in H town and remember eating here once many years ago and haven't been back since then. Recently I have visited twice both times at lunch. The first time was for the 1/2 chicken plate with 2 sides of slow cooked pinto beans and mustard potato salad from the list of options for $16. That visit was on a Saturday and I took advantage of their Pop A Top Saturday special of $2 domestic beers too. The smoked chicken was overall good tasting and juicy and the beans and potato salad respectable too. The mustard based potato salad was smoother tasting that most which can be tangy. My only knock to the meal is their thin and runny bbq sauce. It needs more body which would give it more flavor. Table service was good too and I gave this meal a 3.5. The second visit was for the sliced brisket sandwich ($12) and I added a side of the smoked 4 cheese mac n cheese (thats what they call it on the menu) for another $4.50. That's the a la carte price for all of their side dishes which is above average in price. The sandwich was served on a sesame seed bun and the moist brisket had bark on it and was tender. What hurt it was that runny bbq sauce. The mac n cheese was thicker in consistency than normal. Not dry but not creamy enough either. The sandwich was a 3.5 and the side dish was a 3 in my opinion. Again the table service was good. Pizzitola's has been here for a long time and is popular with the older inner loop neighborhood crowd. I believe that this restaurant represents what Houston's bbq game was 15 years ago. Since then the Q scene in the greater Houston area has improved dramatically but Pizzitola's has stayed the same. The food is a 3.5 but I must round down to a 3 for Yelp purposes. Don't get me wrong if you come here you will get a decent meal. Everything was executed beautifully for our dad's SURPRISE 90th birthday celebration . The venue was ideal for this event. All aspects were well managed. The food was served hot, and the staff and waitresses ensured that drinks and food were consistently available. They were very attentive to our guests and exceptionally friendly. It has an old country vibe to the restaurant, but I usually grab it to go other than a few times I dinned in. This was our first time eating there. We saw this place on TV a few months earlier and wanted to try it out. We were greeted by a friendly staff and seated. Unlike most Bar B Q restaurants where you order from a counter, Pizzitolas seats their guests and hands them a menu. (expect to tip). I ordered the brisket dinner and my GF ordered the rib dinner. I thought the brisket was very good. It was moist and seasoned/smoked just right. Also tried one of her ribs and it was very good too. The plate also came with two sides, bread, pickles, onions, pickled jalapenos and i think there were pickled onions too. BBQ sauce was served on the side. The sauce was tangy, had a little kick to it and was not too sweet. I liked it. For sides I had mac and cheese and coleslaw. The mac and cheese was a little runnier that what I prefer, but it was still tasty. When ordering, I had envisioned a baked mac n cheese with baked cheese on top, but this was not the case. The coleslaw was unique to Pizzitolas. I haven't had coleslaw like theirs before, but I enjoyed it. We have been on a bit of a Bar B Que binge for the last several month. We've eaten at City Market in Luling, at Killens new location on 290 and Brook's Barbeque (food truck) on Barker Cypress and FM 529. Out of these four BBQ restaurants, I liked Pizzitola's the best. It would be my go to BBQ restaurant if I lived closer. Going to have to stop by there again next year when we have our company reunion across the street at Jax's Grill. About the staff: I noticed as customers would enter the restaurant, our waiter and the other waitress working there would greet most of them by name. I got a sense that they had worked there for quite a while to know the customers on a first name basis. It also seems like they have a lot of regular customers. If the food wasn't good, they wouldn't be coming back. As far as ambiance, this place had a down home feel to it. They've been around since 1935 (if I remember correctly). We made a return visit the other evening. Partner and I ordered the rib appetizer with two sides for our meals. Ribs were nicely done but too much salt. Even my partner said it was too salty and he salts everything! Drinks were water. Dessert were banana pudding and chocolate cake. Both were very good.
