Pull in to the parking lot on the east side of Hummingbird Wholesale and you'll see it on the first floor of the grey building. Placido's is cozy, and I would definitely suggest that you make a reservation if you're going on a busier night (although they might be able to squeeze you in without one). I had the roasted garlic and gorgonzola ravioli, and honestly I wish the gorgonzola had more sharpness to it. The dish was still good, but it needed the gorgonzola to take command, and it did not. I did like the lightness of the dish, as sometimes ravioli can sit heavily depending upon the preparation. Service was friendly, though there were stretches when our waitperson seemed to completely disappear. The food is excellent. My wife absolutely loved the smoked chicken ravioli with pesto sauce. I had the arrabiata and it was really good. We also got chicken pesto rotini with meatballs and it was delicious. Bread was $2 extra with takeout. I had to ask specifically because employee on the phone never mentioned if bread was included or even available, and it's not listed on the web site menu. Frankly, it was not worth it: just a few tiny bread slivers with a small cup of marinara dipping sauce. Calling in a to-go order wasn't easy. I was disconnected three consecutive times and then immediately put on hold the fourth time. Placido's could really benefit from an online to-go ordering system. They said it would be 20-25 minutes, but my order wasn't quite ready when I got there about 35 minutes later. Not a dealbreaker, just adjust your expectations. It was a busy Saturday evening and not a big deal for me to wait a few extra minutes. Parking is weird. The restaurant is on the west side of the building, but it's hard to tell from the road. I parked on the east side with ample parking and just walked over... and judging from the cramped west side parking lot, that was a fortunate accident. My first time in their "new" location, a bit bigger that the previous one down the road. And fortunately they still are my FAVORITE place for freshly made pasta. I had their special of the day: Cajun spiced prawn with fettuccini with fresh veggies in it, topped with Parmesan and freshly ground pepper....heaven on a plate! Wow, this was really, really good food. The pasta (both the noodles and the dish) was phenomenal, and they give you this super chewy bread before the pasta comes that is divine. I got the vodka rigatoni, my girlfriend got the chicken alfredo, and we both left very full and happy (with a small package of leftovers to boot!). The only thing I could say against the place was that the service wasn't the best, but it was sufficient and the quality of the food made up for it. The atmosphere was Eugene-nice: reasonably well lit, not ritzy or super classy, but not super stripped down diner casual either (I'd have felt equally comfortable in a dress shirt and in a T-shirt). I would recommend making a reservation- we called on Saturday night 20 minutes before we came in to see how long we'd have to wait, and we ended up having to reserve a table an hour out. I ordered the chicken marsala which I know I shouldn't do because I like my marsala heavy with the butter and with the marsala I'd like to really be able to taste it and have that dark brown gravy. As a big fan of pasta and Italian food in general, I do find that I have high expectations. That said, I'm also understanding of certain things such as expenses, shortness of staff, and of course, the COVID-19 situation. All that said, I may have came at a bad night, but Placido's didn't live up to its potential. Atmosphere: One thing I will say is that the restaurant was exceptionally clean. Even the bathrooms were squeaky clean, which is appreciated. There was in-house dining on my visit if that helps. Food: My group ordered chicken pesto and the carbonara, while I ordered the vodka rigatoni. I was the lucky one. Upon trying my group's dishes, I discovered that both of their dishes lacked flavor. I even had to trade the person that ordered the pesto because it just wasn't prepared well at all. To remedy it, I asked our waitress to bring some chili flakes to help it some. It did wonders, which isn't saying much. The rigatoni was pretty decent though, nothing spectacular, but at least the sauce garnered a nice smokey flavor. The caprese salad was the star dish of the night. Generous portions of mozzarella, which is always appreciated. Loved the presentation on it too. We ordered margaritas too, which was nothing you couldn't get at any other restaurant or possibly make better at home. They do offer complementary bread, cut up into bite-sized portions with a container of marinara sauce. Staff: Staff was attentive and willing to answer any and all questions. Plus, as mentioned above, a big kudos to them for keeping such a clean restaurant. The staff was a big reason for the three stars. Price: The pricing is about average for an Italian dining experience. However, the quality of the food didn't match the pricing for some of the options, so do keep that in mind. May want to skips the drinks too. Overall: It was truly a forgettable experience, which is disappointing with a restaurant with such high reviews. Though, that could basically be because of not having a ton of Italian options in this part of Oregon. A solid three stars from this Yelper. Service was a younger staff and clearly less experienced than what I would have expected after reading some of the reviews. The appetizer was thinly cut up bread with warm Marinara Sauce was well flavored. The main dishes (I had the Bolognese), was made very well and the pasta was cooked to perfection. The others at the table had different items and they all looked good. The dessert menu is a bit limited so we skipped that. Afterwards, I had a bit of a "bloated" feeling and a few at the table had repetes. Going back to the service, refills had to be asked for which is a no-no in my book and the parking is VERY cramped and be mindful of WHERE you park and the hours you can park (it is well posted) as there are other business that use the lot. We love starting off our meal with their caprese. They also provide fresh bread with their house marinara sauce served at warm temperature.
