This wonderful restaurant in the East Village of New York is one of my fav places to dine. I came last year and enjoyed the experience so much! I HAD to return this year on my trip this past May. The ambience is cozy and nice. Cool dimly lit basement seating is where our party of 6 began our tasty journey of spectacular food! We chose 10 or 11 dishes but ended up canceling one of them because we were as full as a beached whale. Great food coma would hit soon after dining. Each of the dishes were unique and seasoned as well as so delicious. Service was great. Our server was excellent. He was very busy but was cordial and helpful with recommendations. Shout out to him! Our party had a great time of fun, food, and fellowship. Bathrooms were adequate. Stairs going down to the basement were a tad challenging with my arthritic hip but all In all it was worth the temporary pain for some of the most delish food I have eaten. Came here for their restaurant week with a group os 7. It was a fixed menu of shared dishes, with a group of 7, we had two and a half dishes per course. The service was fast and efficient, we were taken care of by multiple people who had each course coming out at the same time. Overall the sliced watermelon appetizer and flatbread were my favorites. What a lovely cute place! Tucked away in the east side, this place was a good distance away from tourist spots and yet provided a real great vibe for drinking, bonding, and eating in a night life setting. They had many selections of drinks but as a big party, we opted to have the restaurant week menu. We liked it a lot. There are 7 different tapas to share amongst the table. We had a chorizo, a salad, watermelon carpaccio, prosciutto flatbread, meatballs and fish. The fish and meatballs were by far my favorite and I wish there were more given! There was so much flavor in each and had I been able to, I'd order an entire dish of it! We ended with a chef selection dessert which was bread pudding. First time at Plado. Our server happened to be the same person who I made the reservation with. He was very friendly on the phone and just as lovely in person. He was mostly attentive but it did get busy and it seemed understaffed so we did get a little less "love" but it was totally understandable. He was mostly attentive so I didn't take a star off. It's a cozy place. The music was good. Not too loud. The restaurant was crowded when we first started our meal so it was a bit loud for conversation but as it emptied out, it of course got better. We love our table in the corner. There's a cute bar on the left side of the place when you walk in. The kitchen has see through windows so you can see the chef and kitchen staff working their magic. They did not have any mocktails but when I asked, our server he said they could make their 2nd Street Passion(prosecco, passion fruit puree and mint) zero proof. I had one of those and my husband went w/ a beer. The drink was perfect! It was a good portion and it was very refreshing! I could had another one of these! This is a tapas place so our server recommended 2 to 3 dishes per person. We decided to share their Charred Cauliflower (kalamata olives, pickled onions, tomatos w/ tahini yogurt), Buratta flatbread (mozzarella, roasted peppers, black olives, tomato and oregano) and their Calamarata with Seafood (clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, garlic, fresh tomatoes). I was expecting a smaller portion when the Charred Cauliflower came. They were more like cauliflower steaks. The char was perfect and the flavor was fantastic. Nice and light. The flatbread was unfortunately a disappointment. It wasn't that flavorful and the crust could have been done a bit more. The star of the night was the Calamarata with Seafood. There was a good amount of seafood and the sauce was perfect. I could easily eat this dish again as an entree myself. Those 3 dishes filled both of us and we're both eaters. I am happy we did not get 2-3 dishes each as I feel that would have been too much food judging by the portions we received. We would definitely come back to try other dishes on the menu. read more

The food here was decent, but unfortunately, the service--specifically from the manager, Jonny--left a lot to be desired. He was curt, dismissive, and downright demeaning, which completely soured our experience. Our party had a 9:00 PM reservation. One of us arrived at 8:58 PM, and the rest at 9:01 PM. When we checked in, the bartender informed us that our table wasn't ready. After waiting about eight minutes, we politely asked to speak with the manager. I simply asked Jonny if our table was ready, and he said they were waiting for a party to finish. When I asked how much longer it would be and if he could gently nudge the table, he snapped at me, saying, "You were late." I corrected him, but he insisted we arrived at 9:07 PM, which was simply untrue. I even invited him to verify our arrival time with the bartender, security cameras, or our own text timestamps, but he had no interest in being reasonable. In the end, we weren't seated until 9:20 PM. This kind of poor customer service really put a damper on the evening. While the food itself was decent--the eggplant was good (though the cheese on top was ice cold), and the gnocchi was tasty--the zucchini flatbread wasn't great, with cheese that was hard and clumpy. The veggie wings were tasty but could have used a bit more sauce. The Brussels sprouts were fine. It also took a while to place our order. On a positive note, the bus staff was fantastic, ensuring we were finished before clearing plates, and the bartender and other servers were friendly and professional. Unfortunately, Jonny's attitude overshadowed it all, making this one of the worst service experiences I've had in a long time. I recommend Plado, this would be a nice location for an afternoon lunch, which is exactly we did. To our surprise it wasn't many people inside the restaurant so it was pretty quiet where we sat, but they also offer outdoor seating. This is a tapas restaurant so it was recommended you order 2-3 plates per person if you are hungry and want to feel full. (which I agree with) I would consider this to be a pricy as one plate could be $30 a piece, and it's not much food you're getting. However the justification is the quality of the food, so I would keep that in mind if you do come here. The presentation was there as everything we ordered looked appetizing and the taste aligned with this as we cleaned our plates completely. For two of us, we ordered the truffle fries, the charred octopus, and the seared scallops. We had eaten light bites at a previous event which is while that was sufficient, but otherwise we would've needed to order more food. I did like their happy hour deals and I thought that the hours they offered were great and not very common. I'm not sure how much the restaurant advertises this deal, but in case they don't I would recommend it considering many people weren't there on a Saturday afternoon. So even if this is more costly than you would intend, I say come during that time because the food was delicious. read more

I thought I'd have a stroke, and I'm someone who deals with extreme heat very well. Zero fan or AC or air circulation. I was sweating profusely, trying to survive the heat, gulping lukewarm water to no avail. What a struggle. The most brutal peak of Summer is not the time to open the front door into the sauce that is the boiling NYC and skimp on the AC. The food was superb. Everything we tried was fantastic. Would return to try the rest of the menu and repeat some of the dishes we had, mainly the seafood & chorizo paella, the short rib, the octopus, the lamb chops, the soft shell crab, and the scallops. My friend and I came here for restaurant week because the concept of Mediterranean tapas sounded super delicious. This is a small neighborhood restaurant in Alphabet City. Inside seating is intimate and open, while there are also tables outside by the sidewalk. Kitchen is open and you can see the chefs working their magic which is cool. We started w a first course of fried brussel sprouts - a dish that was just OK. They came with a sauce on top that was yummy but kinda forgettable, id rather have shaved parm on top. Second plate was watermelon carpaccio style salad which was an amazing concept, I would have liked bigger saltier chunks of feta on this and more seasoning. We continued sipping on our aperol spritz and red sangria which were on point and made very well. Service was extremely slow. The entire meal took about 2 hrs 45 min which was excessive for a few small plates. I also really really loved the gnocchi in the mushroom truffle sauce. That dish was delicious and redeemed the dinner in my opinion. I understand this is a tapas restaurant but we left feeling still kind of hungry between the two of us. Flatbread w burrata was the only decent portion - it was cheesy and an appropriate amount for two to share. Paprika shrimp was tasty but the amount of pepper was almost excessive and it lacked other flavor notes. Meatballs were tender and delicious but the minuscule portion left us yearning for more. Dessert was bread pudding - another very small portion for 2, and excessively orange notes which I did not particularly enjoy. I came here on a weekday evening for dinner, we sat outside since the weather was quite nice. We ordered the crispy baby artichoke, burrata flatbread, angus beef carpaccio, and taro gnocchi. I enjoyed the aioli on the artichokes. I thought the burrata flatbread felt a bit lacking in flavor, or I wished the flatbread was a bit more fluffy or crisp, but it ended up being neither of those. The carpaccio felt more like tartare, as the meat was pretty finely diced, and it came with only four zucchini chips, which was definitely not enough to finish the tartare. You could really taste the lemon in the dish. The taro gnocchi was definitely the standout dish, it was creamy with hints of truffle without being overpowering. The toasted breadcrumbs were also a really nice touch and added some more textural elements. I ordered the percisco salad which was really tasty and my friend ordered the pappardelle pasta which I tried which was tasty as well. The waiter was super friendly. He recommended 2-3 plates per person. We ended up getting a total of 6 for 3 people. The Summer peach was very interesting. I was expecting it to be sweet but it was more savory. The burrata crostone was amazing. I would get it again! The waiter told us to skip the flatbread which I appreciated because I always end up ordering a flatbread. The octopus was ok. The truffle fries were also delicious and we asked for the chipotle sauce which is a must if you're ordering the fries. I love that they didn't charge for hummus and bread it was just the perfect amount that we needed. I'm such a fan of Plato, can't wait to come back. Tasting plates, creative cocktails, and lots of vegetarian options! Some friends and I dined in on a rainy Saturday evening-unfortunately that night it was very hot in the restaurant for some reason. I appreciate the huge variety of vegetarian options on the menu-but also that makes things stressful when trying to narrow down options haha. I had the Remedy Elixir as my drink, and it was pretty tasty and unique. For our tapas spread, here's what I do and don't recommend: ORDER: Taro Gnocchi (probably the best thing we had-that truffle sauce=YUM); Mushroom Tart (my second fave-so rich and delicious); Vegan "Wings" (loved the sauce on these) PASS: Roasted Carrots (a bit tough and the yogurt sauce was bland); Eggplant (a tad too oily and also needed more flavor) The Brussels and Arancini were both "okay"-maybe it was just an off evening, because these dishes both have so much potential. I do have to take off a star for the awkwardness of how the plates were brought out-I understand the dishes are "brought out as they are ready," but waiting 10-15 minutes for one small plate at a time was a bit frustrating-I much rather prefer a full table of food all at once rather than picking at one small plate every 10 minutes, so if I ever come back I will be sure to request that more dishes be brought out at once. read more

I loved my experience at Plado Tasting Bar! The menu is a tapas format, so each portion size is not too large. As a vegetarian, I found there were still a decent number of options to choose from. I have been here two times and enjoyed my experience! I will say the tables are slightly close together and the actual seating area is rather small, but food comes out fairly fast and the service is good too. The dishes were brought out "as they got done" though so that wasn't great at times when we only had small dishes left and other times got a lot at once so didn't have as much space on the table. In terms of the actual dishes, I LOVED the Taro Gnocchi which was so creamy and delicious!! I also tried the Esquites (corn dish), Vegetarian "Wings" (cauliflower), and Millefeuille of Aubergine (eggplant, tomato, burrata) which were very good too. We ordered the burrata flatbread, pear burrata (seasonal), taro gnocchi, and crispy artichoke. I highly recommend trying the crispy artichoke and taro gnocchi! The taro gnocchi had just the right amount of chewiness and sauce paired with it so well. The crispy artichoke was surprisingly addicting and tasted like a healthier version of fries with an amazing crunch to it. TLDR; (because the owner had commented on how lengthy my review was) Service could do better, pricing should be more fair, food quality could be improved was nonetheless palatable I tried plado tasting bar as a part of restaurant week 2024. So this review is based on the experience as part of this deal. Plado tasting bar has a pretty extensive 7-course meal at $60 per person for dinner. My party had 4 people total which amounted to about $300+ including 20% gratituity that was automatically included. I felt like the restaurant week deal wasn't really a deal and more of a gimmick. It was nice to have the tasting menu and all, the concept of "family style" was intriguing but little did I know it would just be 2 portions of the regular dishes served on their regular menu (1 portion per pair of people)...felt a little cheated. I thought it would be a little more for family style. But regardless, good selections from their regular menu for a taste of the cuisine. So I wouldn't recommend this place for the restaurant week deal, however as a restaurant as whole... The food was flavorful to say the least. They were beautifully plated and had a nice helping per dish. The serving sizes looked as generous as the regular menu with a little extra cost. Our favorite dish has to be the cavoletti (brussels sprouts) and brisket croquette. These tasted amazing and I would come back here for these dishes. The rest of the course, the selections were saltier than the food I usually eat, so best believe I was drinking a ton of water. My star docking comes from the atmosphere and service. The restaurant/bar definitely exemplifies a vacay in the Mediterranean with their chic decor and lighting, however, we had gone at around 6pm and it was just so hot, the humidity was killing us, and their 2 fans did us no justice. We were probably almost sweating into our foods. Now here is my gripe with the service. Immediately after being seated we were handed the menu and had also asked about the restaurant week menu. We had decided to do the restaurant week menu because it seemed comprehensive and could give us an intro to Plado Tasting Bar, but that menu was taken away from us. I didn't get to fully read the menu before it was taken away. I asked for it back to guide me throughout the course, I like to know what I'm eating especially if they weren't going to explain the dishes everytime they brought something out. The host/server did not ask if we had allergies, which I noted because someone in our party has a mild allergy to shellfish, but my friend had already checked the menu and no seafood was served so we were good, but I was thinking why not due diligence? Throughout the service, water was being refilled, which I appreciate because some of the dishes had a little more salt than what I was used to, but the reaching over while we were conversing without any warning..idk. Their sleeves were almost touching my friend's face before I moved my cup when I had noticed what they were doing. I felt like a simple "excuse me" could get my attention and make me appreciate the service a little more. Lastly, the restaurant week deal had an end of Limoncello or coffee, but they had handed us the bill before I remembered it was part of the experience according to the many I had asked for, which thankfully I had asked for that menu to check which course I was on in case we were missing something! Just all this factors, I am not coming back to this restaurant. Come if you are here for small bites (tapas) or for a drinks/cocktails, but my impression of this restaurant wasn't good, so I won't be returning. read more

I had an interesting experience here during the last week of restaurant week. The portion size was confusing because they gave us two of everything but there were 3 of us. They called it a "portion and a half". Not so sure about that. However I will say I did not leave hungry. And I like the 6 different dish idea you get to try more things. My party and I arrived 30 minutes early and they were able to accommodate us which was dope. The place is beautiful inside and out and the host was not only handsome and well mannered but he made me feel like I was embarking on an exclusive dinner by the way he spoke and presented things. I saw that they had outdoor dining and a tiny bar and kitchen on the first floor which I guess you have to request. Folks up there got to interact with the chef who seemed quite friendly. I wanted to ask for a photo on the way out but it was super cramped up there with voice on voices and chairs back to back and I was glad that we were seated on the lower level. It's very dark like a vampires lair but not too dark to see your food or friends. The house wine was undesirable as most house wine is but it came with the entree so I stuck with it the glass it came in was absolute stunning. They offered sparkling or tap in small short glasses and we ordered both. I was disappointed with the rice ball. From the two we had one was fried harder than the other and tasted of oil and the other was too mushy. 2/5 The pizza was pizza 2/5 and the gnocchi was great 5/5 The lamb was not bad 3/5 and the lemonchello although super sweet kind of went with everything else to wash it down. The dessert was not for me 1/5 I think it was chocolate chip bread pudding. The eggplant with the Burrata on top was EVERYTHING. That's how you cook eggplant that right there 5/5. You could taste the love they put into this place and the branding and total aesthetic and vibe was consistent and that actually won me over. I would come back for a tasting or dinner in a large or small party and would definitely recommend. And to be clear it was 3.5 star so I decided to round up to 4. read more

Tasty! I participated in the restaurant week menu to try this place for the first time. The RW menu was a sampler of many items and a glass of house wine. My favorites were the truffle flatbread, Parmesan Brussel sprouts, and eggplant mille feuille. All of these are cheesy haha. These were the first three things that came out - started off so strong. The gnocchi was decadent and loved the mushrooms and breadcrumbs but could not finish it as it was the last dish to come out. The rice ball had a nice crispy exterior, though a bit muted in flavor. Lastly, I was not a fan of the lamb meatballs as it tasted gamey. The red wine was Cabernet Sauvignon which was a bit too dark for me and I ended up switching for white. Kind service in a dark, romantic atmosphere. We were seated downstairs, bathroom is upstairs only - just a heads up to anyone who might not want to go up/down stairs. Found this gem of a tapas and wine bar last week. It's a perfect, cozy spot to while away a few hours on an otherwise dreary evening. They have so many vegetarian options in addition to non-veg, so it's great for groups with different dietary restrictions. We ordered: Agnolotti - The butternut squash in this made it a little sweeter than I would normally like, but this was balanced out by the sauce. - Millefeuille of Aubergine - We didn't expect this to be served in a bowl, but this was delicious (it's hard to go wrong when burrata is involved...). - Crispy Baby Artichokes - The aioli on these was really good, but the artichokes themselves were a bit bland. They also provide bread, hummus and chili oil on the house, which is a really nice touch. If you order the eggplant, make sure you save some bread to eat with it for extra yum. Plado tasting bar is such a cute restaurant run by a husband wife duo. They try to keep their menu fun, exciting, and fresh with ingredients that are in season! 1. Elote - probably my favorite thing here. Fresh, punchy, sweet, and salty. Perfect little corn bites 2. Tuna - wonderful textures and flavors in this dish 3. Ravioli - warm, creamy, and just really great pasta 4. Flatbread - I think this was a great sharing dish but the other dishes were better imo Pleaaase come check this place out! The perfect small plates place. They have a great mixture of Spanish, Italian and American dishes. Each dish was unique and the service was impeccable. The dishes came out at the right pace. I thought the ambience was great as was the service, but the food was a bit meh for me. I was first really excited about the menu, but the taste of the food wasn't amazing in my opinion. When I get a chewy octopus, you know it's going downhill. My friend had the meatballs and he said they were good. We also had one of the flatbreads which I'd give a 4/5. read more

The food, the service, the ambiance- Plado had it all! Honestly, GREAT cocktails! Fresh tastes and a menu that changes seasonally. And the food was truly delicious. Small portion sizes which were great for sharing. We were a group of 6 and ordered 10 plates - perfect way to explore the menu while also filling up. Will absolutely come back as the servers all were so friendly and attentive. read more
