I really liked the Plaka Grill. I was hoping it'd be just like the food I ate in Greece but maybe that's asking for too much? Food: good solid Greek food. A little on the bland side in terms of seasoning. The lamb is also a little greasy. The bread is great. They have a kids menu which I really appreciate. Ambiance: this place is tiny. Lunchtime is a war zone here. You're climbing folks to order, ppl are ogling chairs like vultures, it's just not pleasant. I was uber stressed out when like 3 different ppl kept asking me if I was leaving. I know this may not be the restaurant's fault, but I think the setup of the ordering area/ cash register and pick up window don't help matters. The tables are also super close together. Parking: don't even get me started. It's a tiny lot and they share it with a whole other host of businesses. Maybe this are calmer @ dinner time? I'll def avoid the lunch crowd next time but I'll also still be looking for the perfect Greek restaurant in the WMA. read more

What Plaka lacks in curb appeal and ambiance, it makes up for in good quality, low-cost food. Order the Plaka gyro combo -- an interesting pork-based take on the gyro with a not-too-dill sauce and a side of fries that, in my opinion, is better than Five Guys. Tell me why I've lived in Vienna my whole life and the first time I had Plaka is a month before I move? I just tried it a week ago and we've had it 3 times already. I am obsessed with a good gyro, I could honestly eat it everyday, and finally when our normal spot just wasn't doin it for us anymore my boyfriend decided to give this place a try. We had attempted to go here several months ago with the intentions of sitting down and since it's so small and always so busy there was barely even standing room. Not sure why it took my genius brain so long to think of getting carryout. I love how thick the cuts of meat are, you really get what you pay for here! Not to mention the employees are always very nice, which is incredible considering they are always slammed. read more

I am going to go against the majority here and say that I was not a big fan of this place. I have only been here once, but came based on yelp reviews and something I read in The Washingtonian - saying you have to try their Plaka Gyro. Of course, that's what I had, and I was not impressed. Personally, I prefer the traditional gyro (pressed lamb/beef combination). I believe their signature gyro is made of pork, which seemed odd to me, but I tried it all the same. I found the meat to be very fatty and greasy, so fatty that picking out fatty pieces was unavoidable because it was ALL FAT! I didn't care for the fries on the gyro either. Eating here made me miss the Knossos that used to be down the street on Maple Avenue where you could get the BEST gyro around. I still can't figure out why they closed... read more

This little place in the middle of Vienna is a hidden gem! Very nice, homey cozy feel to it. The staff is very nice and for the quality of food you get, the wait time is not a problem. I had the Chicken Shawarma and my friend had the Mousaka. Both were excellent. Being from Bulgaria, I've had some good homemade Mousaka and this one very much rivals it. The Chicken was very flavorful and not dry at all. The sides (green beans and roasted potatoes) were also great and the greek salad had just the right amount of dressing on it. The Pita bread was nice, warm and soft. Proportions were also generous for the price. Give it a try! read more

The succulent lamb was amazing, it was well seasoned, got a good amount of meat, the pita bread was ok, nothing out of the ordinary, my friend got the moussaka which was pretty good, I've had better thou. Based on a coworker recommendation we ate at Plaka Grill. Following are the issues we noted: -Everything was oversalted -The Biftaki my wife ordered would have been better had the meat been sliced -I had the Plaka Grill Gyro, it was ok but lacked the Tzatki sauce and -Plaka did not have any Chili Sauce or hot sauce (staff person indicated they "ran out". No chili paste you got to be kidding me.). -The fries were both small and portion size did not meet my expectation. -Diet Coke was out We were not impressed and do not plan to return. There are other and better Greek alternatives in the No Virginia area. read more

We just picked up food from here (on a Saturday night), and, wow, was it a miss. Very unexpected after the stellar reviews and the place being packed. The Chicago gyro was mostly dry, too little tzatziki, and the meat tasted like it was bought from Sysco or US Foods. The pita was good. 1 out of 5 stars. The Plaka gyro was OK, not bad, but mediocre at best. 2.5 out of 5 stars. The village salad was pathetic, especially for $12. Small portion of chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, with a few pieces of feta cheese and black olives, hastily thrown together, with a dressing that tasted like pure lemon. 1 out of 5 stars. The customer serivce, however, was excellent, and the food was prepared quickly. 5 out of 5 stars. Sadly, for us, we won't be coming back here again. read more

Plaka Grill is our, "Go TO!" for Greek. While this review is far overdue, we can't say enough good things about Plaka or it's friendly staff. We've been going to Plaka for well over a year - found it on Yelp when looking for Greek food nearby - and will keep going. It's a smaller mom and pop venue with decor of that of the Plaka. It is kid friendly = VERY loud during the peak eating times (we try to avoid coming here during this time if at all possible). The prices are reasonable and the portions are perfect; not too much and definitely not too little. One of my faves is the moussaka; while typically heavy and greasy, Plaka brought back a stellar recipe from Greece. R - who is typically very quiet - even raved to the fella who brought out the food that this was the best he had had since his visit to Greece. The white sauce is light and offers a nice brown carmelized spot-ridden DELICIOUS crust. The seasoned tomato meat is lightly formed beneath the layers of delicate tender egg plant --- NOT rubbery eggplant or bitter and definitely NOT packed hard dry meat.....so many places serve really REALLY bad moussaka. We have also has their lamb and orzo (forgot the name of the dish) special on many occasion. The lamb is so tender and the orzo al dente. While I don't normally like potatos, their Greek (lemon, thyme, olive oil and herbed) ones are soooo good. So good that I endup ating most of them! Their shrimp rice dish (can't recall ethe name either, sorry) is very tasty. The shrimps are perfect, not over done, which often many places do. And of course there is baklava godness. Really, butter honey ridden phyllo do w/ ground nuts - uh YUM! While this review is being written early and isn't very entertaining - def thumbs up on the Plaka! Staff - as mentioned - is friendly; free refills on the soda; and a clean establishment. You order the food at the counter and it is brought out to you, with in a very reasonable time. Pros: DELICIOUS Greek food at a good price. This is the second best gyro I've had in VA...the first is at "La Casa" in Alexandria. Cons: this place is PACKED (cuz it's good!) so you really can't stay long. And you always have people asking, "are you leaving yet?" because they want to take your seat I like to take my time and eat, not rush and have people all around. Best thing to do is go for an early or late dinner so there's less people. Despite the crowd...I still go here whenever I'm in Vienna. read more

Really good gyros. Got the plaka gyro which is how they make em in Greece. The french fries are a different style I'm used to but the gyro is the best I've had in America. This is because they roast pork slabs on the spit rather than the beef/lamb combination meat that everyone in America knows as gyro meat. read more

We went in with a group of people for dinner on a Saturday evening. Were a little unsure of how things worked when we arrived, but you place your order at the counter and then sit wherever you'd like. It was a little hectic, there were a lot of people waiting for carry out and at the restaurant in general, but service was friendly and quick to take our orders. Overall, the food was flavorful, inexpensive and delicious. We loved it! Definitely recommend them, we will go again. read more
