Most recently, I was able to describe an oil facial cleanser I got at Barney's and they helped me find a similar product, at a much reduced price point! Just discover Planet Beauty, I was looking for a gift for my wife and they had a great variety of skincare, make up and hair care products. The entire staff was very helpful in helping me find the Red light therapy device I was looking for. They are very knowledgeable, they gave me a really nice gift bag full of samples that my wife just loved. They also had a sale on all their candles. I just had a great experience with Stephanie and Gabrielle! I called the shop to see if they carried a specific brand and whoever answered the phone was very kind and said they did so I headed over. When I got there I started talking with Stephanie and she recommended a product that she absolutely loves. I usually don't trust sales people's advice but I just got such a trusting vibe from both her and Gabrielle that I was excited to try the product. I asked her about a few other things and they both had so much knowledge on everything and never once was sales pitchy. They were just showing and teaching me the basics which is so valuable to me because all those products can be so overwhelming. I even asked about a hair iron and she said when you have more time come back in and I'll show you on your hair. They were both so real and such a pleasure to interact with. Planet Beauty is my favorite little secret! I have been to several of their locations but the one in Studio City is my favorite. The service there is awesome and they are always so helpful. Whenever I am looking for soemthing new they are able to help out and they carry a lot of products that I haven't been able to find anywhere else in the area. I used to work at a beauty supply so I understand having to be shoved in someones face and asking them threes time for help and stalking them through the aisle while your boss is watching YOU. But these girls seem like they like doing that and I feel like brawling sometimes. I know most of the public love to be babied but I personally like my space. I love shopping at this place, I feel like a kid in a candy store. So much to buy, I always shop here Saturday mornings before I do my grocery shopping at Ralph's. I always get assisted my Sylvia, she is so knowledgeable, she always knows what to recommend. My hair is so processed and she always recommends the perfect products for my hair. I've been a customer at the Studio City Planet Beauty store for 7 years and I've been please with their product and service. I always go to Amanda for advice on hair products and she's never let me down. She knows the products and always willing to help you with any questions you may have. I had terrible damaged hair and she right away new what products were good for my type of hair (curly hair). I blow dry my hair to have strait hair with a bounce and I'm able to pull this off with the products I bought at this store. I recommend to check it out! read more

Today I went in to return a product that is breaking out my skin . At the time I bought it, I could have sworn the customer service person has said it would be a store credit for this particular product, and she didn't tell me it was a two week return policy. Anyway, today, let's call this salesperson "Eyelashes" and you'll know what I mean when you see her, flipped out when I mentioned my story. She outlined my mistake a few times, proceeded to tell me she is NEVER wrong about the return policy, and then continued to treat me like a crazy customer, after I agreed with her. She happened to also be the person who helped me buy the product. This time, I guess maybe something terrible had happened in her life recently, because she was certainly not the sparkly, bubbly girl who helped me the first time. I actually called corporate to let them know that she might be losing customers for them...I feel badly for her, but even more badly for this location...Eyelashes, I hope you have a better day and your New Year brings you much joy. read more

I've been going to this Planet Beauty for a few years now but the last two times my experience has been very unsatisfactory. This was a wonderful little store where the salespeople were very helpful, knowledgeable and with great service. The salespeople would insist that if I had any issues with a product, I could return them with no questions asked. And that is how I was able to find many great hair and skin products over time. It is also how I learned to trust the staff at Planet Beauty Studio City. Unfortunately, that is not the case any more. The salespeople and manager treat customers as if they know nothing, contradict what the customer says basically calling us liars. And if you have an opinion about a product that they don't agree with they jump down your throat, they have huge egos and tell the customer they are wrong rather than listening to the customer and recommending the right product like they used to. For instance, Pureology is not the same any more and they know this but since the company has not officially told them that they will not tell you. After comparing the stuff inside new versus old bottles in the staff's presence they still would not take the bottle back without charging me 30% restocking fee claiming that I had used 1/3 of the product. And this after they admitted that they see the product has changed and that also L'Oreal bought Pureology. I used the conditioner only once and till the narrow neck of the bottle. I was in the shower and my hair which is very coarse, would not detangle, so I had to use a lot more and let it soak longer. The responses I got while trying to explain my position were very humiliating and rude "well that is the wrong use of the product and you shouldn't have used it", "you've only shopped here twice according to our computer", "people spill their bottles and come here all the time to get a refund, we just don't do that".... and so forth. I would like to find another store that is like how Planet Beauty at Studio City used to be. read more

There aren't too many of these nearby so I went to the one in Studio City I was pleasantly surprised by how many beauty products they carry that I can only find on Amazon if that! All under one roof. Tawny was very helpful and real about what would help my needs and I ended up walking out with $190 worth of products instead of just one brush. The sigma brush I came in for I honestly did not like at all and because they were having a cheapest item of your bunch is free sale I got that one free, but couldn't return it. I did come back to return a Sonya Dakar spot treatment and was again greeted by a very nice girl Vanessa who helped me as well and I loved what she recommended. I never though to try Smashbox Studio Skin foundation but it is really one of my faves now. Thanks ladies, I shall be back! read more

There was no pressure to buy, just very knowledgeable, friendly people eager to impress a customer on the hopes that I would return to their local So-Cal chain of privately owned stores. I have to agree with the reviews of how awful their customer services is. I've been a customer for nearly 10 years, and never had issues until the last year or so. I've learned to find out what it is I want to purchase before I go in to avoid the long sales pitches (I'll even call to make sure they have it in stock). The saving grace about them, for me, is 1) they carry the biggest selection of OPI nail polish I can find. Cinema Secrets no longer carries the brand unless it's a random specialty thing, like shatter; 2) they are far less snooty than Neimie's in Sherman Oaks who sells twice as much product lines. You think this place has a bad attitude, go there and these gals here will be shinning stars. It just happens to be the industry. When you know who you're dealing with, it won't bother you. Best advice? Ask your hairstylist what works better for you, then go out and get it. Hold your ground when you walk in! read more

One star is being generous. I wanted to like this place and i've kept coming back because it's so close to my office. However, the manager (I believe she's the manager, brunette girl who also does makeup) has the worst attitude and customer service ever. Completely unpleasant, snarks at you if you make a small purchase (um shampoo--really? I can't come in and just buy shampoo) and only offers suggestions on the most expensive makeup brushes in the shop. I'd rather drive the extra mile up the street to another beauty supply. I have been going to Frida for my eyebrows for almost 20 years and have followed her where ever she has gone. At times due to distance I tried going to someone else but ended up going the distance to see Frida as no one can do what she does. If there's anything lower than one star, that's what I would give. Went there couple weeks ago and didn't get any sales attention at all. Some girl with blue hair and a blond girl barely said a hi, yet practically ignored me and continued chit chatting amongst themselves..mind you I was the only customer in there at the moment...but wait..two trendy Caucasian friends walk in and all of a sudden the two girls up front turn on their friendly mode and start promoting sales products and whatnot. Wtf?! Am I Not a customer who needs to be informed and assisted? I feel kind of discriminated against...because I'm ethnic and not Caucasian and trendy. Well good thing I didn't buy anything. They have a very limited variety of products. Also, Just because someone looks a certain way, doesn't mean you don't assist them. All customers should be kindly assisted, not ignored. Just be careful of the stuff they try to sell you. I assume they get commissions of certain products they push. I have been coming here for a while as I live close by. Unfortunately this last time I was very upset. I had just done my hair and it was freshly highlighted and super light. I wanted to tone it down so this sales associate sold me this colored shampoo in like a brown shade. I asked her repeatedly it was safe enough to use and she assured me it was not permanent and the color would be fine. Long story short it ruined my hair color and turned it into a brassy orange. I was so upset. I came in and judging by the way all the other associates reactions, it was that bad and all they could do is say sorry and try to refund me. I described the girl that helped me which was a tall skinny blonde with a squeaky voice but of course they played dumb as she was working so I guess they were trying to hide her but unfortunately she came out and I ambushed her. My point in writing this review was that they don't always necessarily know what they are talking about so please listen to your instincts. I decided to write this review because one of them was allegedly going to follow up on me as I was advised to wash my hair with Palmolive dish soap until it came off, the follow up never came which pretty much shows you what little work ethic they have. After many washes and harsh soaps I still have not been able to retain my new hair color. What a disaster. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Planet Beauty. A huge selection of all types of beauty products just like the reviews said. And Amanda is the bomb! I saw her name on a prior review, but when I went there I didn't realize that it was Amanda who was working with me to get what I needed, and yes, I needed help. She listened, recommended, was so knowledgeable, guaranteed (as I was doubtful bc some products I've used in the past were not there) or I could bring anything back if it didn't live up to what she was saying. She helped me with coloring product, shampoos, conditioners, a flat iron, leave-on conditioners - she got it. I just used it all here at home, and they are all that she said! My hair is BEAUTIFUL again. They do it all, though - skin care, eyebrows, etc., and she loaded me up with samples. Plus 3 $50 coupons I can use next month! The atmosphere is calm, I was approached after she let me peruse for a few minutes (no pressure), then spent all the time I needed with me. Not to mention the great jazz music. Her beautiful smile and personality just added to it all. When she told me her name, after spending at least 15-20 minutes with me, I told her about the review I read and I thought she was going to cry with joy. So she's not in it for the Yelp mention. She didn't even know about it. I also met Freda, the eyebrow specialist, & she had the same welcoming personality. Just tell them what you are needing, they listen, and will make sure you get what you need and don't need. No oversell at all. I wanted an additional product, but she explained why I didn't need it, after listening to why I thought I needed it. 5 stars it not enough. Bottom line, if you are looking for a great place with a huge selection (including nails & skin ) and knowledgeable, attentive helpers (I can't even call them "sales" people, look no further. I was in the neighborhood getting a pedicure at the nail garden and decided to pop into Planet Beauty to see if they carried a favorite product of mine, which they did. I asked the salesperson what the price of the item was and she curtly instructed me to find it on the barcode label. No problem, I get it, it's marked and I can look for myself, maybe they get tired of people asking the obvious but last time I checked customer service meant being polite and helpful at minimum, so I was slightly annoyed but I didn't think too much of it. I proceeded to the counter to buy the product and when I tried to pay with five dollar pieces, the saleswoman said, "we don't accept those," to which I responded, "you mean to tell me my money's not good here?" She said, "people don't want those coins back as change so our manager won't let us take them." I told her, "I don't think that's LEGAL." Bitchily and unapologetically she shrugged dismissively as I walked out without making a purchase. I will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau and I will never again hand over a cent of mine to that establishment, not that they'd accept it if I tried. This saleswoman and manager have perfected a truly disgusting snobbery that perhaps makes them feel good (who knows why) but should be considered unacceptable anywhere in civilized society. read more
