Here's a Yelp-style review that sounds frustrated but still fair enough to be taken seriously: I understand Planet Fitness is built around being affordable and beginner-friendly, but the whole "No Judgement Zone" idea can also create a gym atmosphere that does not really push people to grow or improve. A gym should be welcoming, but it should also motivate people to challenge themselves, build discipline, and get better. The equipment setup is also very limiting. There are no real free weights besides some dumbbells, which makes it hard to do serious strength training. A lot of the machines feel like they force your body into awkward positions instead of allowing proper technique and natural movement. That can be frustrating if you actually care about form and progression. On top of that, a huge portion of the gym is cardio machines and treadmills. That may work for some people, but if you are trying to build strength, improve athletic performance, or follow a more serious workout routine, the gym feels very limited. Planet Fitness might be fine for someone who just wants basic cardio or a very casual place to move around, but it does not feel like the right environment for people who want to train hard, use proper free-weight equipment, and actually push themselves to improve. Unfortunately, I've gone to giving this place five stars to one star. The staff is not attentive. They sit there and chat amongst each other and don't greet guests. The tanning rooms don't get cleaned in between Tanner's and it looks like they don't get touched throughout the day. Trash on the floor and the floors are disgusting. The actual bathrooms aren't clean anymore either. Not sure what happened, but I hope there's some improvements. read more

I visited Planet Fitness to work out this weekend, and it was honestly disappointing. The club is supposed to be open until 8:00 p.m. on weekends, but everyone was told to leave around 7:00 p.m. When I asked why they were closing early, the employee walking around said it was because of "labor laws" and explained that higher management schedules employees alone for hours, leaving them unable to take lunch breaks, restroom breaks, or any breaks at all. I have no way of knowing whether that is true, but if an employee feels comfortable saying that to members, it raises serious concerns about how staff are being treated. If what I was told is accurate, then this is a failure of management not the employees. Members shouldn't lose an hour of gym access because of poor scheduling, and employees shouldn't be put in a position where they can't even take a legally required break or use the restroom. I genuinely hope the employee was simply having a frustrating day and that this isn't how the club is actually managed. However, if it is, then higher management, including District Manager Dami, needs to take a hard look at what's happening. No employee should feel unsupported enough to tell paying members that labor law issues are the reason the club is closing early. Planet Fitness promotes a welcoming environment for both members and employees. I hope management addresses this situation, communicates honestly with members, and ensures employees are given the staffing and breaks they deserve. read more

I honestly regret signing up here. This Planet Fitness is poorly managed and it shows in almost every aspect of the gym. The staff are consistently unhelpful and come off as uninterested in doing their jobs. Most of the time they're either on their phones or talking to each other while members are left figuring things out on their own. If you do ask for help, expect attitude or the bare minimum effort. Cleanliness is an issue. Machines are frequently left dirty af , the locker rooms smell and don't seem to get cleaned ever, and there's a general lack of upkeep at all. It doesn't feel like a place that's being properly maintained. A lot of the equipment is either broken or worn down, and it stays that way for way too long. Instead of fixing things quickly, they just leave machines out of order, which makes the gym overcrowded and frustrating to use. On top of that, the overall environment feels off. There were multiple situations where it seemed like certain members were treated differently than others for no clear reason, which came across as unfair and borderline discriminatory. It's not a comfortable atmosphere when it feels like people aren't being treated equally. The membership side is just as bad. Trying to make any changes or cancel is unnecessarily complicated, and it feels like they make it difficult on purpose. There's a lack of transparency, and you're left dealing with policies that aren't clearly explained upfront. place is disorganized, poorly run, and not worth the hassle. Still waiting on my refund since October have called and spoken with several people and was told they didn't even have a manager for a few months, every person I speak with gives me the run around and then was told by the new manager he would get back to me and of course he did not! I'm a black card member there, and the last two times I came in there to work out, the staff up front were saying the F word loudly. I also have stood there more than once waiting for help while they were gossiping, and I had to wait until they were finished trash talking about someone, so I could ask to use the massage chair. It makes me sad to post this. I like the equipment. Today a male staff member was saying Mother Effer at the counter. Last time it was a female staff member who was saying Effers. I left 4 stars because other than that, I like the place. I am not a prude, I cuss sometimes too, but they should not do it in front of the clients OR gossip negatively in earshot of the clients. read more

Generally a really good gym, but sometimes you start noticing in things that others don't. Theres an unused air freshener that that's been in the men's room for years now and it's never been cleaned or replaced. It has an old car scent tree in it. Someone should just take it out. read more

Long overdue for an Updated Review. Been with this Planet Fitness since they opened and it's rare to say nowadays but this gym is still as good as when it opened. This is literally a fantastic gym and I'd come to this location not only for the convenience but genuinely because it hits all of the marks. The staff here are truly wonderful. I am always so impressed by the quality of the staff who work here. Everyone is super nice and welcoming. They say hello when you walk in and goodbye when you leave. There are no stuck up gym vibes here, they truly value your business and make you feel good to step inside. The staff are always cleaning! I never see that at other gyms I've frequented or tagged along with friends. The staff here aren't just sitting around - no matter when I come someone is cleaning equipment, mopping, dusting you name it. That makes me feel really good and safe post Covid days and just knowing that I'd be less likely to get sick. They having cleaning stations which I appreciate and I always use them. However, not all clients do so it's nice knowing the staff legitimately make rounds to clean. The equipment is never broken and always works. I'm impressed with how well they've kept up with appearances and the machines. All machines seem good as new and have little to no wear and tear. This branch and manager really keeps a great store/gym and for that I'm grateful and have been a loyal customer for seven years now. Planet Fitness has great deals and I appreciate that for as little as $20 a month I can come unlimited, always bring one guest, use their massagers/tanning beds, and go for free at any planet fitness in CA. It's super convenient and a great value. I really love this gym and wanted to make sure I could give an updated review as the staff deserve the credit and I definitely want to ensure that manager knows things are working and appreciated. read more

Gym has become a huge dump. bathrooms are really gross, and there are no towels to wipe down the machines. staff is surly and unhelpful, if you could even find them . Seems like the only staff easy to get a hold of in this joint is a staph infection. I don't know what happened to this place, it was good a couple years ago. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the vibe is chill, which I appreciate. I like being able to go in, do my workout, and leave without drama. There are many different types of equipment, so you can pretty work out any part of the body you need to. The music is okay and there is plenty of parking outside. However, when it rains, the parking spaces nearest to the gym flood, so it's best to park a little further away. The hours are pretty long, which is helpful, although it's definitely not 24 hours, as sometimes seems to be listed in various locations online. For some time, all they showed on the TVs for news was FOX, but now they seem to have mixed it up a bit so there's something on for all. As a longtime marketer, I think they would be well served to air videos on a tv on each side of the gym showing how to use various pieces of equipment, as that might encourage members to try new things in their workouts. They mention the QR codes, but not everyone wants to be bothered with that or will take the initiative. I am a black card member, which I'm rethinking because I was disappointed with the massage chairs, and I rarely ever need to use another gym location. I had hoped the massage chairs would be relaxing and work some soreness out of my limbs from working out, but I think the massage chair I got might not have been functioning properly because it felt more like my bones were getting rattled in the end vs. a massage and it was really loud, like a jackhammer, so not at all relaxing. The locker area is fine, although it could use more outlets and I hope that isn't a smart TV in there because those have cameras, which can be hacked into. Most people don't want hackers watching them undress in a locker room. I don't dress in there as I'm not taking the chance. Now we come to the bathroom area, which needs improvement. First, it would be ideal if the shower curtains ACTUALLY COVERED THE STALLS instead of being about 4" too short in width. Whoever ordered them ordered the width of the stall, without realizing that the shower rings make it bend in various spots, so they ended up with about 2 inches on each side that are not covered. Truly, none of us want to know our fellow gym goers that much. Next, water pressure in the showers - or I should say nonexistent water pressure in the showers is an issue. Only one shower stall has decent pressure - the handicapped shower stall. The others have an immobile shower head placed very high up, which is barely beyond a trickle. It's like the setting only allows you half the flow it should. Since you can't move the shower head closer to your body, it's hard to properly rinse. Also, all the shower stalls ideally should have a grab bar, but only one does. Last but not least, the bathrooms themselves could be cleaner. The stall doors look dirty and have for weeks. If you get there right after they cleaned the bathroom, it's fine, but it definitely does not seem to be cleaned regularly. I can recall several times where at least a week, if not several, went by before the bathroom or shower stalls were cleaned properly (I know this because the same gross water marks were on the chrome plate of the push button to flush and were not cleaned and the shower curtains had the very same dirt on them). Finally - and this isn't their fault, but we seem to have one person who "reserves" the one good shower stall for themselves every time they're there by hanging a plastic bag on the hook by it and then going about their gym business, expecting the shower to be free whenever they get back to it. This person also tends to take 30-minute showers, so if you wait for that shower stall with the decent showerhead/flow, you have to pad the gym time block in your schedule to get that stall, which is ridiculous. A sign with a reminder of gym etiquette would be helpful. read more

It used to be good before the free teen program. Now all you have is a bunch of teenagers standing around hogging up machines and not using them . I am seriously considering going to a new gym because of it. It's gotten out of control. I wish 24 hour fitness had never left Camarillo. This place doesn't even deserve one star! This excuse of gym perfectly demonstrates "you get what you pay for." It's affordable and that's the nicest thing I can say. The staff is so terribly unprofessional. They set such a poor example of physical fitness. When I joined the gym in 2017, it was a cheap and cheerful kind of gym. Now, I'm met with staffing that hangs around the front desk like the herd at a watering hole. God help you if you happen to still be in gym at closing time. The one time I was there at that time, I had the displeasure of hearing an employee shout out that if people didn't leave they would be locked in. Very classy . . . really, though that's very stupid. I LOVE THIS GYM !!! I've been going to this location for over two years. I go almost daily. The staff is SO friendly, they are always busy cleaning, and it shows ! This place always feels very clean and smells good too. All the equipment is in working condition and very well taken care of. The second you walk in you are greeted by the nicest employees, and when you leave they always say goodbye and wish you a nice day. They do fun things like recently a staff pumpkin decorating contest or right now there is a spin the wheel for a prize raffle ticket event. They sell water, fitness drinks and my favorite Knockout Chocolate Muscle Milk. For the Blackcard membership they have tanning beds, ultra red light booths, massage chairs and water massage beds. The price can't be beat ! I'm not a blackcard member, but Ive had a sweet deal for the last two years... I'm on a $10 a month no contract membership. Join up ! You won't be disappointed. Right next door are lots of shops. Ross, Petsmart, Tuesday Mornings, RiteAid, Blenders in The Grass, Sprouts and so many more. read more

We're long time Black Card Members at Planet Fitness. The Camarillo P.F. is unlike most others. The number of outside Personal Trainers and other members tying up workout machines on their Cell Phones is ridiculous. Brought it up to the staff and they're not helpful. I was there three years ago and I now I have the same problem I had three years ago. I talked to the manager and he said they were training the employees OK an eight-year-old could do what I was asking. I go there for the 30 minute circuit. I have asked so many times I can't even remember they don't monitor it and there's people just using the machine and not doing the circuit. I asked a man to move because the machine was my next one and he said I'm not done doing my set. I said this is not for sets. This is for a circuit. There's machines out there that you can use And he still wouldn't move. There are so many people there that are just using the machines and then they don't move when it's your turn to use it and you are working properly on the circuit I quit. I will never return, how many many years do I have to complain about this? My two girlfriends that go with me are going to quit too. read more

I like this gym. I find the staff is always friendly and helpful, the equipment is modern and well-maintained, they clean often, and there are some extra amenities like massage chairs that are great. It's never been overcrowded when I visited. I am on Medicare (a senior), and my membership was upgraded by the club to the Black plan, which lets members bring guests and visits to other facilities at no cost. There's only one real downside: Ventura seems to have few personal trainers, and most of the PF clubs here have none. I find that disappointing because new members won't get the most value out of their memberships and advancing members don't have the benefit of professional advice. There's no spa or whirlpool either, but most neighborhood gyms are the same. Five stars if they had more trainers on staff, four without. read more

Honestly, if you like wasting time and standing around waiting for machines and spots to work out for like 20 minutes at a time then by all means go here. But, if you want to get in a quick workout don't bother. Pay a more exclusive gym. For some reason the ENTIRE city of Camarillo works out here and it's ALWAYS PACKED. It doesn't matter what time of day you come here. It's just people EVERYWHERE. Half of them don't even wipe stuff down after. I can't really say anything bad, yet. There's no trial period here, you just sign up or don't. Given the 2 options in town, this place and Fitness 19, they're both basically school gyms at night it seems. The advantage here is that Planet Fitness is open 24 hours during the week so you can go anytime you like. We'll see how it goes but so far, so good. read more

Not a fan of the new equipment. They upgraded and changed the cardio as well as moving some of the machines around the facility. I come here to get in and out and now I have to spend 15 extra minutes to learn how to work the computer component of the elliptical. Seriously. It's a chore to work out as it is and I just want to do my business and get out: "if it ain't broke don't fix it". If the membership wasn't so cheap then I would have more of a reason to switch gyms. Updating review for covid practices: they gave some equipment shut, but don't require people to wear masks on the equipment. Basically it's a bunch of people wearing chin diapers. When covid began they froze everyone's account. Without warning, they suddenly charged everyone their monthly membership and annual club fee. Bear in mind, I find that know they were back open and hadn't been there since March. They say you can freeze your account for a month but you have to keep requesting it to be frozen. I decided to cancel and resign up when this is over. However, I'm still waiting for my club fee to be refunded. read more

The staff is amazing! The place is so clean the but the only manager there is the RUDEST lady I have ever met. She is the worst. I mean like she is inhumane. She walks away as customers are talking to her, she is disgusting and terrible and she has no respect for people. I don't think she understands she only has a job because of the customers/members.. I like the gym but there's no enforcement of the mask policy so if you're not vaccinated or at risk I recommend to stay away. Each time I come here about 1/4 of the people either aren't wearing a mask at all or pointlessly on their chin.. They will tell people to mask if you go to the desk and ask them to, although somewhat grudgingly - I get it most of the time they're just kids and people can be nuts. read more

I still so very much appreciate the customer service, energy, cleanliness, and staff at Planet Fitness Camarillo, CA. I am also appreciative of Lenette who has great customer service for all ages in life. She is a ray of sunshine for Planet Fitness. It is always a joy to walk in and she's there to greet us all with a positive outlook. The staff overall are excellent and know their jobs very well. I love the fact that Planet Fitness offers the summer program for our wonderful youth during their summer break before they head back to school. It touches me a great deal that Planet Fitness cares about our wonderful youth and it is great to see them there at the gym working out and supporting each other.
