I've gone in twice now asking to take a quick tour as I am going to be transferring from a Massachusetts location to the Rhode Island location specifically the Cumberland PF. I've been turned away both times. Unbelievable. The second time I was actually grateful because as I was forced to stand in the lobby instead of taking a tour, I felt the floor shaking from the treadmills. Gave me a pretty good indication of what that venue is like. The floor literally shakes when people run on the treadmill. Very sketchy. Guess I'll be going to the Lincoln Planet Fitness instead of the Cumberland. read more

Wow, this place really went downhill from when I was a member about a year ago. I recently signed up again and the guy at the front desk walked over to me while I was on the treadmill and told me to stop what I was doing because my monthly fee was declined and I owe them money in front of a bunch of other people around me working out. He walked me up to the front desk like I was a criminal or I just stole something in the middle of my workout. It turns out the payment method was fine and it was THEIR fault for not charging the card. They charged me when I was standing there and it went through fine with no problem. Planet Fitness - Thumbs Down ! - Gyms Near Me - Cumberland, Rhode Island

What I love most about Planet Fitness is their zero judgment policy. This gym frowns upon "lunks." Lunk is a word made up by Planet Fitness used to describe one who grunts, drops weights, and judges (There's a huge sign on the wall.) This is very comforting considering how self-conscious we can sometimes get when it comes our image and achieving or maintaining physical fitness. That said, I appreciate how calm and relaxing this gym is for working out in a social setting. For me, working out when other people doing the same thing is motivating, as opposed to working out in a private setting--too lonely! This site has nicely been renovated and is very clean. The customer service is excellent with a friendly, non-judmental staff who greet upon entering and leaving. Monthly fees are incredibly affordable at only $10 a month. Upgraded monthly fees to access the spa, including unlimited tanning booths and massage chairs, is also a great deal for those who enjoy these amenities. (Btw, The tanning booths might help those suffering from eczema, though doctors would not recommend this, of course. I also know some people with arthritis who would benefit from the massage chairs. Hint, hint) Tons of parking available. Safe, quiet, and uncrowded location. This site was recommended to me by 2 friends and I highly recommend it to others, as well! read more

I'm always greeted with happy faces when I walk in. There are plenty of machines. The overall gym is clean. The lockers, bathroom and showers are always clean. I've never had any issues. Great place to get your workout in! read more

I've been to a few Gyms before, so I have a set of basic expectations when it comes to a gym. Planet Fitness, located in Cumberland, RI, falls short of these expectations in a big way. First, I witnessed an unprofessional call-out of an employee who was cleaning a machine by a manager - In my line of work, you pull your employees aside to inform them of their mistakes, not publicly humiliate them in front of an entire Gym. SMH. I feel bad for the poor girl. Second, when I had to use the bathroom, it was in complete disarray, and stunk like a rancid moldy sock - The sinks were completely caked in dried-up soap, there was trash on the floor. I considered a shower, then saw the state they were in and opted to go home and shower instead. Utterly disgusted, I might add. The only redeeming feature of this gym was that the other people working out were very supportive of each other - It really felt like there is a tight-knit community of individuals seeking better health and fitness. Too bad it was ruined for me by the staff. I recommend going to another gym to work out. read more

So glad to be away from Planet Snowflake. I found it rather ironic that it's a no judgment zone and every time somebody grunted because they lifted something heavy, they are judged by the lunk alarm going off. I also witnessed a manager telling a young lady, who looked like a triathlete, to change her outfit because it was intimidating to a couple of fat women in the gym. The only women in the gym at the time were two fat women who should have held this young lady up as a role model and source of encouragement. The no judgment zone becomes the ultimate judgement zone as managers judge people with clothing that reveals muscles. It should be called, Planet Weenie. read more

I take my PF Black Card here on the weekends when I am in Rhody. They make visitors sign in and write why they are visiting; I say it's for a wedding each time and no one seems to notice. The gym is in a strip mall and the front is full of windows letting in welcome natural light that beats down the florescent lighting. Nice layout with a good group of people that are there to workout and not be all, "I'm working out and you need to know about it!" The lockeroom even has faux wood finished lockable cubbies for lockers that give the impression of a fancy country club. Most importantly the place is clean. The floors are clean, the equipment is clean, the trash recepticles have unbleached paper towels for wiping equipment, the lockerroom is clean, the showers are clean, and the bathroom stalls even come equipped with lysol mounted on the wall. I agree with "Goma's" filtered review. Too many people not enough machines. It takes forever to get on most of them. If you can't make it to the gym at noon when every one is working then you're s.o.l. There's plenty of holes and the padding making you wonder if it's festering with bacteria. The staff is wonderful on the other hand very polite and as nice as can be.The bathrooms are always clean (other then the always wet sink area). read more

For the price, this is as good as it gets. 10 bucks a month and they have all the machines you could think of. I don't recommend going between 5-630 pm as the parking lot is packed and once you step inside you'll see literally a sea of people bobbing up and down on the elipticals. This is the only time of day I'd say it was "crowded". Any other time I've never had to wait for a machine. I like that no one is like "grilling" you while you workout. Great place to go if you just want to get in... do your workout... and get out. The locker rooms are always clean as well as the showers. There are 5 or more TV's all tuned to different stations that you can tune into with your headphones from your treadmill/eliptical etc.. The staff is always helpful and polite. I've been a member at this PF for about nine years and seen this place go through a few transitions, most notably this year when they went through a huge renovation. It's ultra convenient because it's only a few minutes where I live and overall it's an ideal gym. There are a few reasons why I'd give this place five stars. One is the excellent staff they have in place and this shouldn't go unnoticed. There's a few high performing employees including one of the day to day managers there. The second is the clean atmosphere. I know it's newly renovated but this place has always been consistently clean. I've been part of four different gyms and they've all been fairly clean but just wanted to recognize this effort. The third is the price. I've been part of gyms where you're paying up to $50 a month. $99 a year is a steal imo. It really depends though what you're looking for in a gym. If you're into the hardcore bodybuilding or crossfit type of workouts, this place might not be appealing to you. However it has enough, whether you want to get in shape, get cut, or even add some muscle. I really liked the old setup because it had bench presses, more resistance training options and the old nostalgic feeling to it. However I can't fault the decision to create more space and provide additional needed cardio machines. Also one last note regarding the TVs to all the triggered political people. I literally have gone here every week for some years now and they always have a CNN and Fox News TV on so there's absolutely no political bias here that should keep anyone away. read more

When I usually come in I go to the mats and to my pleasure Fox News is usually playing, not other fake news sites. Today I went in and got a RI Liberal attitude when I asked to switch to Fox...and I was the only one in the area. They said no as they have a standard in place for stations which I quickly disputed. The guy said that the Snowflakes there don't want Fox, which just tells me they are not serious about following the news, no secret here. Then I have to remember that RI is a snowflake State, and perhaps like schools they want to dictate what you can watch? I was pretty insistent and the guy finally came over and switched, but mentioned the other people who don't want it? They should focus on customer service, and leave politics to the people who really follow it. That demographic there doesn't even watch the news nor keeping up with World events! read more

This gym is the worse gym I've ever been to. Not well equipped- they can turn off TV, fans, and a good number of lights as much as 20 minutes before closing time. I had a nice $175 jacket stolen on me there (from the locker room). Reported it and asked that a manager get in touch with me....never happened. I understand they claim they are not responsible for lost or stolen items, but please- slow that you care a bit! Good luck with this place. read more

Nice clean gym, plenty of equipment, staff is friendly, the only complaint I have and most members I talk to have is the lack of weight in the dumbbell section, I've been to other planet fitness locations and there dumbbells go up to 75lbs it would be nice for the members who want to achieve more to have heavier weights as they only go up to 60lbs here read more

I joined when they first opened and have been generally pleased given how close to home it is and the monthly membership. Lately though some changes will have me looking at other gyms once I can get out of my commitment. A few months ago they replaced all the treadmills, but not with new machines. The replacements were used (possibly refurbished) machines and of a lower model with less features. Off the bat, most were really rickety and make a racket due to loose plastic on the control panel if you use it for anything faster than a quick walk. The free weight section is limited in number of benches and the top end weight that was available (ex. dumbbells max out at 70 lbs), but given the philosophy of the gym, this should be expected. What wasn't expected is they appear to be removing equipment that has been there for years but does not sync with their general gym philosophy. They had just removed the only free weight squat rack which sucks because I used this nearly every week and it was generally always occupied when I was in there. read more

I've been to several PF facilities, as well as a few out of state. Facility here is relatively small,equipment is minimal (e.g., no adjustable sit-up board), with a shortage of accessories for the equipment they do have (rings, ropes, pull bars, etc.). PF personnel are typically not on the floor and do not enforce rules. Hence, count on waiting for equipment as users talk and text on cell phones while occupying a station. read more

I have been a member since before the transition and I was pleased with the results I didn't know how good it was until my recent trip to MD, NC and KY as well as visiting the Woonsocket location. Staff; Efficient, friendly and willing to help Facilities lots of machines, lots of variety and all in working order. The only criticism is that there appears to be no company training program on programming since no one knew how or why I can't do heart rate driven exercise. This is a criticism of corporate. Hydro massage. Well maintained and clean and a full 10 min per session. Showers; I complained several times about the lack of water pressure in all but one shower, and there seemed to be no change. I was out of town for three weeks and lo and behold they fixed the problem! Hair dryers in men's locker room! Cleanliness: All PF clubs maintain high standards of cleanliness and this one is no exception. I have been a member of other "high end" clubs and can say that that you won't find a better deal! read more

this is my favorite PF that I go to and I love the new setup!! I like the 360 area and I like how there's a lot of room to stretch and do the workouts you want to do. everytime I go its not crowded so it's perfect. I signed up a few months when I moved. The price is definately right, but overall my experience is nothing special. I think if you are only interested in cardio, this is a good place. If your interest is mostly weight lifting, then it's a much different experience. The gym has very limited equipment and my work outs are based on what equipment is available. There are just too many members sharing too few pieces of equipment. It takes me an additional 45 minutes to do the same workout at my old gym because I have to sit around and wait for equipment to open up. Also, the equipment is showing some wear and tear, many ripped padding and with all the use it's time for some TLC. A friend told me they have around 10K members, not sure if that is true but it's always crowded there when I go. read more

I have been a member here for several years and I am very disappointed in the equipment lately. They recently changed the treadmills to "refurbished" treadmills but in my opinion they are worse than before. There are always out of service machines and the connections for the tv are broken. Seriously this facility needs an overhaul. They should notice that there are other gyms opening up in the area that are offering a lot more. read more

I like the layout, lighting, and cleanliness of this gym. Of course, you can't beat the price. My one complaint is the duration of downtime of equipment, particularly upright bikes. Once a bike is taken out of service, it seems to stay that way for several weeks. Recently, there has been a spate of other machines tagged out also, I hope they can improve their maintenance and repair schedule! read more

I have visited several PFs in Rhode Island and Connecticut. Today was my first AND LAST visit to this location. The cardio machines are dated and feel rickety. I used a recumbent bike first. About 8 minutes into my workout, and for no discernable reason, the timer reset itself. After completing this machine, I moved to an arc trainer. Same thing happened. All TVs were set to news, so no variety. I attempted to use the 30 minute workout area, but because it is right in front of the Windows, it was too bright, not to mention uncomfortable. The WORST part of my visit was the bathroom. GROSS. The toilet stalls had paper on the floors, the showers had torn shower curtain liners and were clearly not regularly checked. (Seriously, rinse the floors at least. The first shower I looked at had matter on the floor that should NEVER have been left there. It was clear that it had been left there long enough to dry.) The sanitizer bottles used to wipe down the machines were nearly empty at 3 different stations. The staff were relatively unhelpful. I will not be returning to this location. Ever. read more

For $99 a year (annual special) or $10 a month, this gym gets the job done. It has everything you need to get your workout in. The gym has an extensive selection of cardio machines, free weights and weight machines. The locker room is nice too. The staff is friendly, but not to attentive to problem solving when I have a question. They now offer free wifi, but I can never connect; even when the place is empty. It appears that the wifi router they are using is not up to speed. That definitely needs attention. The only other negative is that several cardio machines are always down and not promptly maintained and/or repaired. If they could get their act together and be more attentive to customer service, the wifi issue and maintaining the equipment, I would bump my rating up to five stars. Overall, Planet Fitness offers a superior value to anyone looking for a gym without breaking the bank. read more
