Stopped by here awhile ago - got thirsty from all that shopping at Trader Joe's on a hot day. We shared a smoothie - despite being banana based (I believe Peach Banana) - it was definitely lacking flavor. It seemed like a LOT of ice was added. And I could barely taste the peach! It got the "meh" review from the both of us. It was disappointing, but the service, while not terribly friendly, was very quick. Juice was OK. Not much in the way of variety for juices. Carrot beet, carrot ginger, carrot orange, carrot cucumber, etc. The smoothies look good, I will have to come back and try one. The Mother Load waffle is one of the few desserts I've had that tastes better than the picture. My wife and kids love this place. Th only thing that keeps me from 5 stars is that they cannot/will not tell us what's in the frozen yogurt. Either the staff there does not know or will not tell. And that's kind of creepy. read more

I've come here half a dozen times and have had such good experiences each time that it compelled me to write this review. Elisa, the owner, is continually making improvements to the business whether through decorations but more the quality of food. From just plain smoothies, to their special waffles with specula spread, to an espresso machine, and now shots of fresh ginger to help keep on keeping on throughout the day. I love Planet Juice!!! I got their lox bagel and what I believe was called the Green Monster smoothie (coconut, mango, kale, etc). The lox bagel had plenty of veggies in it which I loved and is rare when you get a lox bagel, so that was a pleasant surprise for me. Also, instead of opting for a more sugary drink like their Mango Madness or Peach smoothie I decided to be healthier (ish) and get their kale smoothie. Again, I was pleasantly surprised that the smoothie wasn't bitter at all and actually tasted kind of good! I dislike kale and usually when I get "healthy" smoothies I immediately regret it because I have to sacrifice taste for health, but it was nice to see that I could get both and for a really reasonable price! I believe the lox bagel was around $6 and the smoothie around $4. Very reasonable prices for the Bay Area, and both were delicious :) My friends got the Aloha Sunset and their smoothie was delicious as well, but not too overly sugary like other places (cough Jamba sry Jamba it's a love/hate thing). Overall I'd recommend this place if you're in the area and want a healthy snack after conquering one of Marin's beautiful hikes! read more

I recommend getting s boost with each drink. Each drink comes with a free boost: immunity, multivitamin, protein, energy, & fat burner. I always order the Kona Sunset, Bananarama, Mowee Wowee, and the coffee smoothie. The coffee smoothie is like a healthy frap from Starbucks but it's espresso and frozen yogurt. this was my 1st time visiting. however, I'm in a desperado search for a place i can go during the week when commuting through Marin County. i tried their Acai Bowl. it was extremely bland. the Acai was frozen and i had to chop it up with my spoon. I'm not sure if they make them fresh or just pull it out of the freezer and add the fruit on top. (not sure) I let the man know at the counter that i was stoked on smoothies/smoothie bowls & i was in the hunt for a place to visit regularly. he didnt even respond. i don't think he cared if it was my 1st or my last. so i will just make it my last. he wasn't very welcoming. if he was just a little welcoming i would definitely come back and try something different on the menu. Have had a few different juices and all have been good. Coffee not so great though. Tastes like folgers. Have not tried the esresso drinks though. Perhaps that coffee is better. I think they have sandwhiches too .. at least they have some bagels behind the display case. Never had one though. Anyway...I recomend the juices. read more

I've been here a few times since moving back to the area with my family. My husband used to go here when he was in high school (almost two decades ago), we are fans. They don't add extra sugar to your choices like other places and they are always really helpful and friendly. The prices are right too. This place has been a staple for about 25 years and I'll support them for as long as they are around. Lots of variety, and ability to make your own too. I'm pretty sure the owner is the friendly face you see regularly taking orders, which adds a nice community positive touch. Great location too. The only thing that stinks (and it's not their fault) is that horrible parking lot. It's a joke. read more

There are very few places in San Rafael I will go out of my way for. Planet Juice is one of them. Truth be told, I've only ever ordered their specialty smoothie, the peanut butter cup, but it's heaven in a cup with a straw. Everything on their menu looks delicious and I will happily go back and try their food and juices. The staff is always courteous and friendly, attentive and fast with my order. The shop is clean and bright and there's plenty of parking (although the closest lot fills up with TJ and Chipotle customers so I usually park at the farther lot near the UPS store). I REALLY want to love this place because it's close enough to my work and home that I can get a delicious breakfast smoothie when the craving hits. There's a few pros and cons. Pros: -their yogurt is lactose free, which means I can enjoy their smoothies without worrying about and upset stomach/sickness. they also offer almond milk as a dairy/lactose free alternative to regular milk. -their reward program. it's a little stamp card where you get a free smoothie at the end, and I order enough for myself/my coworkers/boyfriend that i fins it rewarding. -I like the concept of their combos! bagels and smoothies, or hot dogs and soda, etc. -i like that there is a byo smoothie option as well. Cons: -It's a bit inconsistent dependent on who is making your drink. Some put way more liquid than others which makes the yogurt kind of weird in the drink. I'm partial to the young blond girl's smoothie making skills, haha. Not that the other folks make bad smoothies, I just think she makes them the best because she provides a good balance of smoothie to liquid to fruit. -their bagels are a little disappointing. I really don't know what it is about their cream cheese, but I hate it. I want to be able to utilize their bagel and and smoothie combo but can't because of it. They have other spreads, like peanut butter and Nutella but I just want a cream cheese one, darn it! As for their breakfast bagels, I've only ever had one with bacon on it and i thought the bacon tasted a little weird. I got a bit queasy after that, and the heaviness of the smoothie didn't help. Ended up getting sick from the mixture of it and have been wary of their meat ever since. -their regular drink fridge is never stocked. I just went in there and got a power house smoothie, and a vanilla frozen yogurt. I thought smoothie places were suppose to be "healthy". Their frozen yogurt is literally soft served ice cream. Nothing healthy about it! The smoothie is all juice (filled with sugar) frozen berries and frozen yogurt aka (ice cream). When I was looking at their wall of "fruit" i noticed all of the fruit up there was fake! The whole place is surrounded by candy and sodas! I am originally from Santa Cruz where their are many juice and acacia businesses, and I thought because I go to school at Dominican University in San Rafael I would miss out on that. Planet Juice has everything I could ever want! Their pressed juice (specifically Rico Suave) is amazing. At Dominican I help manage something called the Dominican Discount Program where faculty and staff get discounts at certain businesses... How can you close 45 min. early and then only allow certain customers come in? I came with my partner and the doors were locked. Then as we walked away we witness one individual was allowed in. As we tried to go back, sure enough the doors were locked and we were not let in. If you say you're open until 7pm, stay open until then. I heard really good things about this place. So, I walked 20 minutes, IN THE COLD, to satisfy my smoothie craving. I checked their store hours before coming and it said they close at 7pm Monday through Friday. Upon arriving promptly at 6:45pm, 15 minutes before they were supposed to close, I was appalled to see that they were no longer open. It looked as if they had been closed for awhile. I wish that I could give them a better score because they make good juice, smoothies and sandwiches, but be prepared to wait a ridiculous amount of time to be served. They are slow and unorganized. Every time I go there it is 30+ minutes regardless of whether or not they are busy. Another issue is that they are always out of wheat grass.... my suggestion is go to Jamba Juice where they know how to run a professional juice bar and provide a good customer experience with efficient service. Best Açai bowls in town! Great vibe and service with a smile! .... I live in San Rafael and just started frequenting Planet Juice, and quickly I've become a fan. I originally went there craving an açai bowl. I've had açai in Brazil so my standards are pretty high, and PJ didn't disappoint. The açai is legit and it comes with lotsa hearty, healthy, and tasty topping options. Great for breakfast or as a treat on a hot afternoon. Everything on the menu looks super healthy with smoothie options galore, wheatgrass (a personal fav), etc, but I found a guilty pleasure there too - the Mission Dog. Yum. Overall Planet Juice has a real laid back vibe and super friendly staff. Next to Trader Joe's, one would think it'd be a great location to get a java or smoothie. But the service is slow (even for a cup of hot water and a tea bag!) and the workers are lost in the land of the Duldrums. Their main problem is their menu is too large and all it takes is to have one worker needing to make too many things requiring various machines to put a wrench in the gear works. The interior is also a strange hodgepodge of tropical decorations without much space for sitting (even on the exterior). Just keep walking onto Trader Joe's, their free coffee samples are much more satisfying. read more
