First of all, great service. Free jasmine tea right when we sat down. Server answered all of our questions and explained a few dishes to help is make our decision. Our food came out fast and super hot. We ordered the spring rolls--good, but not the best I have had, beef stew--nice broth, great flavor, fantastic bread!-- and the beef pho, very nice. If I could rate this place on pho alone, I'd give them 5 stars. They have the best pho on the Windward side (and I've been to a lot of places for pho). Their service is amazing. Its above par compared to other restaurants. The feel of the place is very calming and quaint. And it's CLEAN!! My wife and I had just finished work and the weather was rainy so we decided to eat some good ol pho. We were in Kailua and this place was the nearest spot. Once we walked in it was pretty spacious and kind of welcoming. We ordered our food and it was made in a good amount of time. We got beef pho and chicken pho. The broth was okay and the portions was good. My downfalls was that we could barely get the waiter to refill our waters AND to top it off I found a bug in my pho which really grossed me out and I just couldn't really continue eating. I only came to this pho spot because they had bun rieu here which I've been craving for ever since I moved to Hawaii! It was extremely disappointing to say!! The picture they had on the menu looked so delicious and when they brought out the actual bowl I knew right away it wasn't going to be good! First off bun rieu is a crab soup yet there was no crab meat inside! No pork blood and they put in some random pieces of cha! The soup was flavorless! Also to say when I came in me and my family were the only customers in the whole restaurant and it was so dark inside! The only light they had was the sun light from outside shining in! I don't know if they were trying to save money? The only reason I'm not giving them one star and giving them two is because the actual lady working there was pretty nice! But sad to say it was only her and one chef working the whole restaurant! I want to first off say that the Pho I had was friggin amazing. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because I had a pretty bad reaction to the bean sprouts. My chest was hurting, my lips were itching and swelling up, my throat was itchy and swelling up, and even my fingers were swelling. The only time that ever happens is when there are pesticides on fruits or veggies. Long story short the bean sprouts were not washed and if my reaction got any worse I would have had to go to the hospital over someone not washing the veggies. I mean I'll try it again and see if it happens again but I'll be sure to ask and make sure the veggies and basil are washed. read more

I am in LOVE with planet pho in kailua. I recently took my husband who is very skeptical about trying new places and he licked his plate clean! I usually get the beef pho variation. This is a nice small family ran restaurant. I come here at least once or twice a month. Pho is as authentic as you can get minus the lard (If you've ever been to vietnam, that's what they use in certain regions mixed into the broth) I've tried their rice plates and curry's and it's a bit runnier then I like (I prefer Japanese thick curry) but still delicious. The restaurant can get pretty cold as they blast the A/C. Sometimes they do get behind since it's only a 2~5 family team. Last time I went, it was only the husband in the kitchen and the waiter. For what I saw. The only drawback is the parking. It's a bit cramped. read more

It was very busy last night and they only had one server but he was AWESOME. Super friendly and never forgot a request. The food was dynamite. He helped us craft our order so we would spend a few bucks less and get more veggies (trying to eat healthier!) and in return he made us customers for life. We just had another delicious Vietnamese meal at Planet Pho. The one thing that I focus on when eating Pho, is the quality of the broth. Well, let me tell you that the broth here is deep in flavor, never oily and that a broth of this quality can only be created with a lot of time, care and pride in their cooking. When I arrived there was only one other customer inside, waiting for a take out order. I walked in and the man behind the counter didn't acknowledge me. I waited a minute or two, then grabbed my own menu and seated myself. It was still a few minutes before I was noticed and brought a water. I ordered pad Thai with chicken. It came out pretty quickly and was a very large portion. The food itself was not very good. There was no spice and the noodles were very dry. No one ever asked me how my food was. Pho Thanh Lich is by far the best Vietnamese food we have had so far here in Hawaii. We came in and they were super helpful with the menu, giving us a good description of each menu item. We decided on the papaya salad, Shrimp curry soup, spring rolls and garlic shrimp. Everything was incredible. This is one of the only places I know in Kailua to get Pho. This place has decent pho and I always get their meat combo. It cures any pho craving and I have those often... The portion size is smaller than the other places that I am used to. The flavor is also great and there is a lot of different options on the menu! The service is pretty average with one person on the floor. The food also comes out relatively quickly. Another great thing about this location is the parking out front. On a rainy Hawaiian day my bf and I decided we needed some Pho in our life. We found this place and decided to give it a try. We were the only people in the restaurant- our orders were taken quickly but after that the service kind of dropped off. The food was good- we got Kalbi, garlic shrimp, and a soup to split. While we were eating another group of customers came in and sat at a table waiting for service that didn't come so they walked out. Another thing that did not sit well with me was the two homeless people that came in asking for food from the owner and came to our table to ask about our food. That did not make for a comfortable dining environment. We waited quite a while to get our check as the owner was in the back washing dishes. My family and I there tonight again. Super nice owner. She is so genuine and nice. She seemed so pleased when my son ate everything and was content. Love their pho. The true test is drinking the broth with no sauces. Well, there is hardly any soup left when we order the pho here! We normally get the rare beef and meatballs. The kids love the summer rolls and spring rolls as well. Parking is always a little tricky. We tend to go a little later than the dinner rush but yet before the rush for the yogurt place. The restaurant itself is small, but cozy with mainly booth-style seating. The staff here is very friendly! The food here is great with reasonably priced menu items. While Planet Pho offers Vietnamese cuisine, you can also order steak and shrimp plates as well. I think, what sets this place apart from other Vietnamese places I've been to, is their plate presentation. Many say that presentation is everything, and this place does the job. Also, the rice here is perfect! Firm, but soft enough! I'm also one for good spring rolls, and theirs is very tasty! They were super skinny and really crunchy. Like over cooked crunchy. Probably won't go back and will return only to the lemon grass place.
