You will wait foreeeever to sing. There is apparently a regular crowd at Planet Rose AC and no matter when they arrive in relation to you, they will dominate the mic for hours before the DJ gets around to a single request from anyone else. I have been here three times because I wanted to believe I could enjoy karaoke in AC.... The ratio of male to female here is about ten to one. Expect to be hit on by a creepy man old enough to be your father. The crowd is very unfriendly and critical, even though most of the people in the bar don't get up to sing. You will hear Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Loveshack and assorted Meatloaf hits on a never ending loop despite the great songbook. There are 2 mics at Planet Rose that they have always handed out for every song (in both their locations). However, last time i went, you were only allowed one mic per song if you hadn't written more than one name on the paper you paid $2.00 to submit to the DJ. You also weren't allowed to share the single mic they gave you. Also, the bouncer is good for nothing. A lunatic with a loud portable radio set up shop at a table next to us and was trying to sell...god knows what...out of a duffel bag to patrons. He then started hanging out by the door to the woman's bathroom and harassing women as they went in or out. We complained to the bouncer who had a word with him instead of kicking him out. After which, he sat for about 30 minutes, then resumed his activities. In short, don't waste your time or money. read more

A group of my friends were in AC to celebrate one of our friend's birthday. We passed by this place and he decided that he wanted to sing a song. We went in and paid the $5 cover charge. We had to pass through a huge crowd by the bar to get to the back where the singing was taking place. They have a private room which I guess you have to reserve for a party. He chose a song from the book, he chose Baby Got Back and ultimately decided I needed to sing it with him, so I said I would since I have no shame! We had to pay $2 for the song. The thing that stinks about this process is your names and song goes in a jar and your name gets randomly chosen, they just keep adding more and more to the bowl so the chances of your song getting picked keeps getting smaller. We decided to wait it out to see how long it would take until we got called. we were definitely the youngest group of people here, there were alot of older women that we were having fun watching dance like fools as people sang. After a while we were not having fun anymore, there was only so much making fun of that we could do. We waited for about 10 songs and never got called so we decided to move on to someplace else. Definitely would have been much more fun if they had an order to the songs that were sung and we knew when we were going to go. I was actually kind of sad didn't get to sing! read more

There's potential for this place to be great - the owner looks like Mr. Chow from the Hangover, so that's super fun. I think he knows it too, since he dresses in a very idiosyncratic way. But that's kind of where our fun ended last night... We were lucky enough to get a last minute reservation for my bachelorette party in the private room (apparently there's more than one, but no clue where the others could be - that place is small!), and we were told that it was $10 per person, minimum of 8 people to have the room. We didn't have 8 ladies, but were willing to eat the cost of our 2 invisible friends. The 6 of us were having a blast, singing and dancing our hearts out when the computer system crapped out about 90 minutes into our 2 hour reservation. Mr. Chow came in to fix the issue, which took about 10 minutes, and then the waitress came in for our last call. When she brought the bill, we were THEN informed that it wasn't $10 per person for the reservation, but it was $10 per person PER HOUR. That's kind of an $80 mistake made by Nicole, the manager and bartender who gave us two rounds of Jell-O shots for her mistake and ending our party nearly 30 minutes early when the computer crapped out. She even went so far as to cancel out our remaining songs while we were having the conversation about her misinforming us of the cost. She kept saying there was nothing she could do and it was our mistake... but two separate girls spoke with her and got the details, and neither or them was told that it was a per hour charge. Last I checked, she took the reservation, gave us bad info, and was the manager - I think she had some power to do right by us... or at least better than Jell-O shots. If you're going to do it, get the private room - you can be off-key and have fun without having to listen to the warbling sounds of horrible singers and meathead guidos while having a good time with your own peeps. But know that it's $10 per person per hour to do it. Overall, we had a great time while getting ripped off. Thank god for Mr. Chow. read more

If you are a guy and your not part of a bachelor party you will never sing. Sexist bastards totally cater towards the sloppy women who throw themselves at them. Do not give that karaoke guy Nick any money..... He has no clue how to do his job. There is a 5 minute lag in between songs and even though I gave him $20 to bump me up on the list, I waited 2 hours and spent another $30 at the bar on weak drinks. Every time I asked where I was... "you'll be up in 2 songs" and then some drunken chick would take my place with me getting totally forgotten about. This happened 4 times last night. The only reason this place gets 4 stars is for the staff. The barmaids are amazing. Bouncers. TOP NOTCH. Management? Horrible. Asking to buy merch and you get the sale pitch run around or "we don't have you size". Funny, 30 seconds later the barmaid did........wtf. Heard good things about this place. Went in there on a Wednesday night and about five regulars were the only ones there. Noone singing karaoke. I overheard the group ordering some sort of "bartenders special drink" so when I approached the bartender and asked nicely "could you make two more of that special drink?" she rudely retorted "I'm not making no special drink" so I left quickly. Look out for the underdressed, too old to be wearing that, blonde bartendress, she obviously has no interest in patronage or upholding any type of quality assurance for the bar or tropicana as a whole. I truly feel sorry for anyone who gave this place a bad review. My reason. I have been going to this place ever since I was 21 years old. I am now 30. That being said, I have honestly received beyond satisfactory service my 9 years going here and expect no less for as long as I live! Every night I never once had a problem with anybody here and the owner Sumio is a very good guy who has always made sure that everyone has a good time. I never once had my turn to sing skipped, and the bouncers always had my back every evening I was here. I always got good service at the bar and can honestly say that everyone who I have associated with here always had a good time as well. All in all this place still stands as my favorite hot spot in atlantic city and can only hope newcomers enjoy this place as much as I do. read more

Came here for my bachelorette two weeks ago. Had a blast!! I sang a few songs - yes I waited to sing, but if you pay a little extra you can bump to the front of the line. It was fun meeting people and making fun of others singing - not to their face though, lol. Waitress was mediocre so we ended up just going up to the bar to get our drinks.. Is it a karaoke bar or a lounge? Do you want to sing like "50 Cent" or "Whitney Houston?" Not a big karaoke fan since I recite lyrics on my own without the monitor. Ok entrance fee of $5. It was a mixed crowd of men and women in this spot tonight. Bar was busy but it was not that crowded at the same time. They also had a private both with salsa/meringue playing. A venue that screams punk rock, and intermission music that's all pop. Only bottled beer and mostly vodka on the top shelf. My friends and I had an extremely unpleasant experience at Planet Rose. The security staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. One guy barged into the ladies room. Checking the bathrooms may be a part of the job but if you are a person of the opposite sex, you just do not throw the door open and stand there asking questions in a rude manner. Neither should you announce that "If you throw up, you will get thrown the f*@& out!". Also, one of the security members made an inappropriate sexual comment to a friend when we walked up. This same security member grabbed same friend, and threw her against the door when we all got into an argument over the one who barged into the bathroom. Management says the man felt threatened by her. She never laid a hand on him. Yes, she was upset and yelling. But so was the security member. They cursed at her and manhandled her. Overall, the situation was not handled appropriately. I will never enter this establishment again and I am recommending to all of my friends that they stay away as well. read more

The place itself was very good. Bartenders were nice and they kept the place very clean. However whoever the DJ was, was HORRIBLE. we arrived at 11:15 I the place had at most 30 people and it took me TWO HOURS to sing (I think bc I finally asked) and I sing karaoke a lot and that usually takes at most an hour. And when I turned in my 3 songs I turned them in together and my second song was 10 songs apart, I understand one or two but TEN. We had an awful experience. And will never go back. read more

Don't bother reserving the private room. It is not sound proof, and you can barely hear yourselves over the people singing outside in the main area. Moreover, maybe they were having a bad day when we went, but if someone reserves a private room, the sound system, computer, etc. should be ready and working upon your arrival. If there are technical issues, resolve them before they arrive, or call people to let them know before they show up so they don't show up and are surprised. It was a bit of a "hot mess". Overall, it was really disappointing, especially when your group is trying to celebrate a special occasion. The manager attempted to make amends with our group, but by then it was too late. The damage was done. Hopefully other people will have a much better experience than we did. read more

we had a great tie last night. No cover, cheap drinks and the crowd was into and it was a great vibe. I definitely noticed the DJ's favoring "regulars" cause It really took 2 hrs to get one song of mine and I watched the same guy sing 5 times and the bouncer give away songs when the requester had flown the coop. I kinda wanted to do the private room but $160 for 2 hours was a bit too much for me, but next time with a larger group it might be do-able. all in all I will be back =) read more

We originally came to this bar as a passing. We just wanted to sing a few songs take some shots and move on since we were only in Atlantic City for a night. However, we stayed until closing time! We met some awesome people but the best part was the staff, mike and this female bartender (who's name escapes me atm) treated us with such hospitality, they really made us feel like regulars on our first night! Small little bar with a cool newspaper timeline theme. A stage in the front and few tv's for lyrics you select a song and sing karaoke. Good place for people who are shy after a few drinks you will have enough confidence to go up there. Really a good time if that's what your looking for. read more

They make you wait for your songs to come up by putting on bar music in between each request and the sound system sucked, too. Don't waste your time going there. We paid to enter and was told by the DJ that he was not accepting and karaoke request since the establishment may close early in the next 20 min. Wish this was told to us at the door when we paid. There were 9 of us in the group. We approached the manager who was the person at the door and confirmed that it was true. Non the less we were going to stay for the little few minutes we had since the drinks are cheap. However the DJ proceeded to accept a karaoke request from a caucasian gentleman. We approach the DJ to see if they decided to accept request. He told us the same as before. At this point we saw that this was clearly a race issue.
