The place is wonderful. Is codif and they are very very careful. The atmosphere is great, the service is great, and the food is wonderful. They tend to all your needs. The had great singers and the appetizers that we order were elotes, and them the burger came. The burger, I can call it the craving killer. It had bacon, smoked meat, and obviously the burger too, you know the drill. The burger did not feel greasy and felt it was all natural even the bread was delicious. Great last dinner in Playa del Carmen. Definitely a fancier restaurant in the touristy area but it was a good change from eating tacos. Tough to get a table without a reservation, waited around 45m on a Saturday night at 8pm. We ordered the seafood sampler, ribeye, side of veggies (portion large enough for 3), and tequila. Seafood sampler was delicious, slightly on the salty side, but we loved the scallop/pork belly. The ribeye was properly cooked to medium rare, and it comes with a hot stone to sear the meat to your liking. I would probably order the steak rare next time since you can cook the meat on the stone. Really liked the ambiance of the restaurant. All the furnishings are very modern and chic, perfect spot for a date night. Our server spoke English well too. Total came out to around $100, would recommend this place if you're looking for a nicer dinner spot. read more

Excellent! Really delicious! Lobster bisque (delicious) For entrées: Tomahawk ribeye (has gristle but for some reason that's how it is everywhere in Mexico), ribeye usda prime (so tender, no gristle! and delicious), and chicken breast (a tad dry but that's how it was ordered, very well done Ay yay yay) For desserts: carrot cake and chocolate mousse. Great food, great service, simply grilled dishes either on rock salt or wooden planks make for a healthy, tasty and kid friendly menu. It was our best meal in Playa del Carmen. Book a table outdoors when the weather is good and you'll also get some nice people watching during your meal. However, I'm still in my seat and writing this review because the food is quite terrible. We had high hopes, but the best parts are the presentation, bathrooms and service. Eh. This is our fourth dinner in Playa this trip and it was probably our least favorite and most expensive. The tuna tartare with lemon froth was very good, and the risotto was pretty good, but our sea bass was overdone and tough. We ordered the smoked tacos believing them to be vegetarian (since they made no mention of meat anywhere in the ingredients list and people smoke veggies and cheese) but they were full of meat. They looked great, but we don't eat meat. We asked them to offer them to another table and we'd pay for them, but they went back to the kitchen. They did, in fact, charge us for them. Maybe I'm in the wrong here, but if it were my establishment I would've comped them since the menu was confusing or offered something else. They had a tasting menu for 2+ people that consisted of 5 courses. Everything was absolutely delicious. The waiter was friendly and was really accommodating if we wanted to switch out certain things. I went on a 1 week trip to Mexico with my family. Our hotel, The Condo Hotels, included breakfast with our stay. The Plank was the first restaurant we went to and it honestly blew my mind. PROS: Beautiful interior and exterior All you can eat fruits/finger foods during breakfast hour Attractive plating & flavorful food CONS: Only available during the weekends with Condo Hotels package :( I only had to pay 125pesos with unlimited breakfast offerings, which comes out to around $6.75 which was not bad at all!! The food quality is spectacular. The chefs really know how to pack as much flavor possible in their selection of entrees. I loved the variety of fresh fruits available in the open breakfast buffet. You have to try the deviled eggs. They were so good, my group of 14 ate all within minutes of setting it on the table. Free mimosa with your meal! This is the breakfast spot to go to if you're in Playa Del Carmen.. you will not be left disappointed. In fact, you'll be drooling over this restaurant your whole trip. Stopped by this restaurant on our way to Tulum based upon high reviews we read on yelp. In short this restaurant is over hyped and overpriced for what it offers. The setting / ambiance is lovely, no complaints there. The food is another story! The initial flatbread with dips was barely edible, very flat & tasteless. We ordered the Seabass, the second steak dish on the menue & two sides of cauliflower & parmesian potatoes. The presentation of food gets 5 stars, but the taste is another story. Chillean Sea bass: grill a piece of sea bass from Costco, pour a ton of melted butter on it & present it nicely on plate, nothing more. It was extremely heavy, barely edible as sea bass is a fish with high fat content & melted butter is the last thing you'd want on it. The califlower same concept: steamed cauliflower with ton of melted butter all over & I am NOT exadurating. I'll spare you the details on rest other than the whole day you'll wish you finish digesting the tasteless, heavy, buttery meal so you could move on with your life. For the price they charge, I would've imagined you'll get something more than a piece of meat in plate, but you have to order sides extra. Lastly in regards to service: we were greeted & seated promptly, order taken on time & that was it! No one showed up untill we were ready for check. We were walking home from another restaurant one night and smelled meat smoking, I saw the smoker and decided we needed to try this place the next night. We are glad we did. This place does a really good job smoking meats and seafood. We had an 8:00 reservation and got right in at our time. The restaurant has a street level with tables, a deck with tables, and an inside part. We opted for the table in between the deck and inside. Glad we did because it was a beautiful night. They have a nice wine list that was not too expensive, drink list, and a beer list with local craft beers. They brought out flatbreads and three dipping sauces. The smoked tomato dip was delicious. We started with smoked scallops with pork belly and a wonderful mustard based sauce smoked on a salt block. Everything tasted great. I had the sampler which was smoked pork, smoked beef brisket, and smoked baby back ribs. Mt wife had the smoked Chilean sea bass. We had sides of smoked corn and smoked cauliflower with melted cheese over the top. Notice everything smoked which to me is a good thing. I ended up ordering a local IPA that was 32 ounces. Served in a chilled wine bucket to keep cold. I am an IPA drinker and found this local craft beer very good and on par with our IPA's. All in all a very good meal and glad we caught the smell of smoke. Service was excellent, waiters always checking on us, and the owner came by at the end to ask about our meal and to thank us. I have been meaning to write this review since my visit to Plank. We were served by Diego who was very knowledgeable and outstanding as our server. Chef Juan and also Juan from the front of house greeted us and provided a warm welcome. I love the 'Plank' concept which really came through with the food and presentation. My favorite dish was the smoked beef tartar - it was delicious! See pics for more! Many times, a restaurant is just a place where people sit and eat. When you consider that this was the most money we paid during a week of visiting PdC's finest restaurants, and then combine that with the overall mediocrity of the fare and the pretentiousness of the setting, I'm not a fan. Oh, don't get me wrong: The slightly less than adequate amount of sea bass you get will be quite tasty, as is the asparagus side. And my wife had the steak wellington, which made an excellent leftover the next day. But $30 for each entree? In the States, if I'm paying that kind of money, then I expect it to be exceptional, and this is not. The whole setup feels a tad gimmicky to me: yippee, everything comes out on a plank of Himalayan salt. Whoopdedoo. Then again, take what I say with a grain of Himalayan salt, because I am fairly allergic to restaurants with a concept. How's this for a concept? Serve me some really good food and don't financially exploit me in the process. Life is too short. There are other restaurants at a similar price point in PdC such as Imprevist, but you're getting truly exceptional fare and the setting is more intimate and less glitz. read more

Mexico cuisine at it's finest. On the one night that we wandered away from our all inclusive heaven we came to plank and had a spectacular meal. Most everything is served on a salt plank which I thought was a really cool gimmick (every place needs at least one) We did a 5 course tasting menu that was soooo good & the pricing nearly knocked me off of my seat. We had wine, lobster, filet, we had a whole dessert board and the cost, truthfully, I've spent more for the same amount of people at a neighborhood diner. This is a must go to if you are in the area. Their cocktails are phenomenal and served with style, the service was the best we had in Playa, and the food was excellent.
