Yesterday was my first time here. 5pm was not crowded, but still busy. The menu is truly" Plant-based" There's no meat, no dairy no fish. But also great food, well seasoned and well cooked. No rubbery tofu, no rubbery eggs. The chicken fried mushrooms were amazingly crunchy and delicious. They come with what I will call a sweet Thai chili sauce. Delicious not too sweet not artificial tasting, with a little spice to make it nice. The fried rice had bits of faux egg the rice was soft, and fluffy. It was very tasty. I added some of the soy sauce, that was on the table. It is delicious dark with lots of umami, but not salty. We also had the kebab. The Hostess was very kind and friendly. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. Everyone comes to check on you, even though they aren't the designated server for your table. Nice. Our server was very knowledgeable and informative regarding the entire menu. Her expertise allowed us to navigate a new situation easily. The only negative was my service at the bar. There were only two people there, one of which was me. The bartender was very inattentive, to the point of being dismissive . She made my drink and let it sit there with the ice melting, while she made the other drinks for servers. She never checked on me and there was no conversation. Overall, a good experience. It starts quiet before the rush, then gets louder as more people come in, esp near the bar by the entrance, which can get super crowded. The food is savory & all vegan! It's not your typical Asian fusion. Some dishes are served in smaller servings, so it really depends on how hungry you are. We liked the service, but it was a bit slow, even though there weren't that many people there yet, maybe just a couple of tables. This is what I would call a fine dining vegan establishment. My wife wanted to come here on an adventure of Chicago checking out some events and wanted to add this to our stop before heading back. Coming in, staff was friendly and we were amazed by the beautiful scenery and our table that we were presented too! Our server Jamie was really friendly and professional throughout our visit she really has high knowledge of the menu in detail when curious about certain menu items. Me and my wife tried various items from : Red Dragon Maki Rolls, the Bao slider and spring roll salmon was absolutely delicious, I never had blackened tofu but adding that to my bowl was incredible and really added to my meal. If you have this kind of hater in your life, I'd recommend taking them to PLANTA Queen to dispel any bad stereotypes. There are plenty of options and, while imitation meats are offered, they're (a) tasty and (b) totally optional and bonus (c) unique. My meat eating boyfriend (who sorta hates vegan food) greatly enjoyed his meal and I sure enjoyed mine. I really enjoyed planta queen! I ate there on a Thursday evening so it wasn't very crowded. The service was fantastic and the restaurant was pleasantly quiet throughout the meal. I loved the decor as well - it felt cozy but elegant at the same time. The portions were larger than I expected - I was there with one other person and we ordered 4 things total - the avocado cucumber rolls, the avocado-beet tartare, the chickn fried mushrooms, and the bao. We took half of the sushi and all of the tartare home because the bao and mushrooms were already filling enough! I also ordered a cocktail from their seasonal menu that was delicious, though not very strong. I'd definitely recommend the tartare - it was delicious and so well-plated! I've never had a vegan take on tartare before and was pleasantly surprised by this. I also would recommend the bao as an appetizer - they were delicious and a nice handheld to start the meal with. If a restaurant can make vegan food scrumptious, this is the place to go, however, I have had mixed experiences. Their crispy gyoza is my staple. Next on the list of the truffle fried rice, they have never gone wrong with this one. I occasionally switch between the Singapore noodles and the udon noodles, the udon noodles almost always win. Their maki rolls have been a hit or a miss for me. I have had rolls that are sometimes too salty or sometimes too bland. We had a very friendly and helpful server who made some recommendations about popular appetizers and how many plates to order. It's family-style and smaller plates unless you get the entrees. For 3 people we ordered a bao slider, 2 crispy mushroom hand rolls, an ahi watermelon nigiri, an unagi eggplant, a firecracker roll, a poke bowl, and 2 bubble waffle sundaes for dessert. The hand rolls, nigiri, and unagi were all tasty but felt a bit overpriced. The firecracker roll, bao, and poke bowl were delicious and substantial. But most dishes were a little too salty for my taste. The bubble waffle sundae, however, was fantastic. My only complaint was that the spoon was too big for the sundae dish, so you couldn't reach the bottom to get the crispy rice and strawberries out. But the taro ice cream, black sesame caramel, and fruit were all a great combo of flavors. I'd like to come back and try some other entrees, because I don't feel like anything but the waffle had a wow factor. I'm so happy to finally write a review for Planta Queen. This place deserves all the love! I've been to this place so many times and to celebrate multiple occasions. It has been my constant source of good times and amazing food. I recently visited this place with an out of towner friend who loves plant based meals just like me. We ordered a bao slider, dan dan noodles, crunchy peanut tofu, and spinach and shiitake gyoza. All the dishes were yum! Crunchy peanut tofu was our favorite. It is served with a Malaysian dip and it's so tangy and compliments with the crunchy tofu. Dan Dan has been my constant dish on all of my visits. Not gonna lie, at times I just dream about this dish randomly and cannot stop appreciating how lovely it is! In my past visits, I've also tried crispy gyoza, Singapore noodles, dragon roll and crispy chilly tofu. Everything is so good and flavorful. For drinks, we tried Herb your enthusiasm, Lych Please and Mezcal me Maybe. All were yum and love the creativity with names. Went here for a quick lunch, and as a typical meat eater I ended up very satisfied with this vegan meal! Started with the bao sliders and was immediately obsessed. When I bring my vegetarian friend here next week, this is the dish I will not compromise on getting! The crispiness of the mushrooms with the soft fluffy bao buns creates a magical pairing. The spinach dumplings are a favorite of my mom's, but I can't say i'm a huge fan myself. If you like spinach and a kick from the chili- you'll love this. The poke bowl was fantastic. Full of fresh and delicious ingredients that were topped with a few excellent sauces. Which came out sometime later but it came with fries. When we told the lady who ran the food that the side choice was incorrect, she stated, "it said fries on the screen." As she pulled the sandwich away... to fix their mistake? So because we pointed out their mistake, our sandwich will then disappear, further get colder, as they scrape fries away to replace with a salad? Is this amateur hour? Listen, when YOU as the establishment make a mistake, you dont take the food item away from the costumer. You also don't argue? This was my first time here for lunch, and we were able to get a table with no wait, which is always a bonus! The service and the upscale-but-not-stuffy ambiance was lovely as well. The Bang Bang Broccoli is consistently a must order, and this time was no different. New to me, however, was the bao slider, which I LOVED; the textures of the bao and the mushroom were out of this world. The firecracker roll was one of their specials and very robust flavorwise, especially compared to most vegan sushi options. The peanut tofu was probably my only skip. This spot has been a first choice for me whenever we have a date night or special occasion so naturally I wanted to have my birthday dinner here. The food was great as always. We were able to try a lot of different rolls and dishes and they were all delicious. The downsides to the experience were more service related. Our server was very polite and in top of things but the service was still quite slow. We had to wait long periods of time to order or put in second rounds of food, get more drinks etc. I don't blame the server but I think they were taking care of too many tables at once and that caused the service to be slower than we would've liked. When we sat down we were giving the option to still water or sparkling, I opted for sparkling and my partner asked for still we were told they had run out of pitchers of still water (??) so we both just got sparkling. When we got the bill we found out it was a $10 bottle of fancy sparkling water. The water was more expensive than a lot of the sushi rolls and almost as much as some appetizers. We were both kinda shocked that no one thought to mention the upcharge and especially after being told the still water wasn't an option at that moment I would think the reasonable solution wouldn't be to up charge a $10 bottle or if we were told it was $10 we would've declined. Not the biggest deal ever but it's never fun to get an unexpected extra charge on your bill. Lastly this is more of a personal thing but we did write down it was my birthday in the reservation and everywhere I've gone including places that are much less upscale than this atleast offers some type of birthday /special occasion something. One waiter did say happy birthday, but other than that, it was kind of obsolete. I understand it's not necessarily like the restaurants job to do these things, but in my experience, most upscale places and nice sitdown restaurants in general will do something for you, even the dive bar I went to over the weekend, offered me a free drink for my birthday. My partner did ask them and they said they don't do anything for birthdays or special occasions which I just thought was kind of interesting for a place of this price point and vibe. Overall, it was a good experience will still be back for me. This is a better value for the happy hour and the discounted days. My sister recommended this spot and I came here to try their lunch special ($28) which includes a starter, main, and a cookie for dessert. My oh my, were my expectations exceeded when it came to the high quality nature of our dining experience and the food. We tried two of each. For our apps, we had the Spinach Black Bean Dumplings and their Bang Bang Broccoli. OMG, the broccoli was fire! The fiery peanut sauce was fabulous and serving that with tempura broccoli was delicious. We also enjoyed our dumplings but for sure would get the BBB again. For our mains, we had their Ahi Tua Tartare made from beets as well as their Mushroom Truffle Udon. I enjoyed the marinade in the tartare and it was a nice dish with great texture served with chips. However, the real star were the udon noodles, where the mushroom truffle sauce truly elevated the entire meal. Although a bit on the saltier side, it was delicious and one that I'd order again and again. If only they had extra noodles or rice, because at the end of the day, we really wanted more ways to enjoy the stew. Not to mention that this restaurant is gorgeous.
