I've been wanting to go to this place since opening, but decided to wait it out a few weeks until things settled down a bit. There was not one empty seat in the house when we walked in for a prime time reservation. Not one seat at the bar or even at a table. And it was buzzin! And I loved it! Happy me, being the DC resident vegan amongst my circle, I now have a place to take all my "normal eating" friends that doesn't scream "crunchy granola!" This place was sexy with lots of energy. Oh, and the food? Even better! Every plate was seasoned to perfection, and from the 5 items selected from the menu, it was hit-after-hit, all the way down to dessert. Had a great experience this past Friday night despite being seated 20-25 minutes past our reservation time. One member of our group is gluten free, and our server brought over a marked-up menu that made it very clear which items were gf and which could be modified. The watermelon nigiri, the dumpling platter, and the Thai slaw were some of my favorite food items! Everyone in our group loved the cocktail they ordered as well - I ordered the mezcal option and it was lovely! Highly recommend this place, though expect wait times on busy Friday nights. read more

Food = AMAZING. Everything we had was delicious from appetizer to entree to dessert to mocktails. Seriously so good. The reason for 3 stars is poor restaurant management - the servers were all very sweet and nice but it was clear no one knew who was bringing the dishes. It was a free for all and someone random brought our dish every time which would be fine if it weren't that we had to ask 3-4 times for missing or extremely late items. It really taints the ambiance of going out for a nice (and though it's not the most expensive meal every, it's also not the cheapest) when you have to constantly be annoying and ask a waiter or random person for a missing item. This is a logistical and restaurant management issue because it was clear no one knew what was going on or who should bring stuff out even though they were all nice. On the same vain of management/logistical issues, we were randomly asked to move tables during our meal because they needed to push 3 tables together to seat another party. They comped our 2 mocktails as a result which is very nice but again just taints ambiance and makes me question the logistics/planning end of things. If this restaurant can tighten up a their management and make a more seamless dining experience, they are sitting on the gold mine!! read more

We went for brunch, and really enjoyed our experience. The sake sangria was delicious. We ordered the potato truffle dumplings, bao sliders, kimchi fried rice, and the monkey bread, all of which were amazing. I loved that you could discern every single flavor of each dish. Our server was also very helpful and provided great service. Our only complaint was that they were out of quite a few items when we went--there was no sushi available, nor was the waffle maker working. I would go back again to try the sushi though! read more

PLANTA is a wonderful choice for if you are vegan or even if you just want some food. It makes dishes that you often cannot eat an example being their vegan kelp based caviar. It is beautifully decorated the inside being aesthetically pleasing. It was slightly loud but not to much so that you can't have conversations easily. I recommend getting a reservation if you don't want to have to wait 15 minutes, but it is a fun place to walk around if you do decide to wait. The servers are all nice. read more

I absolutely love this restaurant. The food is delicious, the ambience/scenery is nice. I am so excited to be one of the first to dine here. I would easily give the restaurant 5 stars except for one thing. Their staff, while friendly in the obligatory sense, lacks enthusiasm/care/customer service. They're more robotic---no twinkle in the eye, no sincerity. It really does make a difference especially when dining for a special occasion which I was. One exception, though, was Ivory. She was warm, friendly, personable, engaging and clearly understands working in this industry. All of the staff are beautiful-looking and as a visual person and artist, I could appreciate that. But work needs to be done on personality and warmth. You are in The Chocolate City--act like it! Food? Absolutely delicious. I doubt one could go wrong with anything on the menu...just close your eyes and choose! I mean my food was unbelievably delicious. I could still taste the flavors in my mouth the next day. I highly recommend them. Again, and unfortunately, I couldn't give the 5 stars because the service needs some tweaking. But they will get there I'm sure. Tough experience! While the food was tasty, the aesthetic was cute and the staff was sweet. We came for an early dinner but dishes did not come out for a really really long time. At the end we decided to cut our loses, and left after waiting on a dish that never came. We also orderded two spicy tuna rolls (which were delicious!), the first roll was unevenly cut into 8 pieces, which wasn't a big deal. The second roll however didn't even come cut, and it gave the vibe of "I tried to roll this sushi myself". For the price, it's hard to justify that kind of expirence. Here for the first time for my bday. Nice looking place. Great place if you're vegan. Our server didn't tell us his name, and was not very attentive. We arrived about 45 mins before the reservation and my other party arrived 25 mins before the reservation time. Took a hour for us to even order our food. This place was right across from our hotel... My husband and I sat down at the bar to eat because we loved the vibes. It wasn't until we got our food that we realized it was a vegan spot. Atmosphere was a bit drab as we arrived on a rainy Friday night but the food was delightful. I especially enjoyed the Bao Slider and the baked crab roll! A group of 6 gathered together to celebrate a birthday and had a lovely time. I have been a vegan/vegetarian since the '70's and seeing a chain vegan restaurant of such quality with such tasty, diverse meals was not imaginable to me back when the only item on a menu might be salad and restaurant servers would look at me like I had two heads when I asked for vegan/vegetarian options. We got the Udon noodles in mushroom and truffle sauce, the sushis burrito, and the truffle fried rice. All were excellent. One of us is gluten free and Planta had no issue accommodating. The servers were all friendly and knowledgeable, and the West End/Foggy Bottom location is easily accessible and makes a nice addition to the neighborhood. read more

Ok. This place is ridiculous, absurd, remarkable, incredible. The food was amazing, the presentation a work of art, the taste exquisite. I enjoy a four pound crabmeat stuffed lobster as well as a a grass fed grass finished prime aged porterhouse but I would have no problem becoming a vegan if Planta's chef would just move in with me! Food and service were pretty good. We had a couple of issues which I felt like the server addressed but the manager should have done better. The bao had great flavor but the bun bottom was hard and stale. And, as my friend was scooping the rice, a long piece of hair was buried in it. Both of these issues were brought to our server's attention. The server said they would inform the kitchen and the manager and would be right back. The server came back and apologized for the bun and said they would replace the rice and said the kitchen will do better in protecting their hair. They did not replace the bun. We didn't make a big deal out of it but our server witnessed the hair and was shocked as well. As an experienced foodie that has eaten at a lot of top notch restaurants, most restaurants would offer some sort of discount or gift card for the mishap. This did not happen and the manager never came by to apologize either. The food is definitely something that has potential but management should have taken initiative to make things right. A great addition to the vegan restaurants in the DMV. Staff are super friendly and helpful, food comes out quickly and steadily. The ambiance is nice and the staff stands back and allow you to enjoy your conversation and meal. We started with the Dragon Roll sushi and it was so good I forgot to photograph it. It is served with soy sauce, wasabi and shaved fresh ginger. The heat of the ginger and wasabi will sneak up on you but in a great way. The Thai lettuce wrap were amazing and the presentation was beautiful. Whatever they seasoned the tofu mushroom filling with, I need a bottle of it because it had me wanting to lick the bowl...because I ran out of lettuce. Throw a little of the freshly shaved ginger slices and it takes your mouth on a journey of flavor. The truffle fried rice was delicious and quite filling. You won't be able to finish it because it's a lot of food. Whatever those little eggy things are; they were delicious as well. For a plant based restaurant the food was amazing. I will be returning for lunch probably tomorrow. read more

I asked my husband to take me to Planta Queen for my birthday today. I can say in hindsight I should've chosen another restaurant. We waiter long for the waiter to come to our table after the hostess seated us. Once the waiter took our order of appetizer and drinks, we continued to a long wait while others that came in after us received their food. I had to ask her why others had received their food and we are still waiting. She said that she would see about the appetizer and drink. I still ordered another appetizer and entree. We finally received the drink and first appetizer which was fine, but when the second appetizer came it was burnt. So the best part of birthday dinner was the bang bang broccoli. read more

Excellent vegan restaurant. My daughter is vegan, I am not but I do eat vegetarian meals about 25%. We ordered three dishes to share on Father's Day. Two were FANTASTIC and the third was good. I love Planta and I am a regular at the NY location. However I have to say the food at the Washington location did not taste the same. I ordered the sushi box and the mushroom bao bun. It was a delivery order. The bao bread was stale and the sushi did not taste at all as what I was expecting since it was all things I had tried before at their NY location. I was disappointed sadly.
