Located in the basement area of Old Pink you'll find Planters, one of the best bars/lounges to be found, one that truly exudes itself with an Old Savannah charm, character and feeling. The old age of the place gives it its distinctive Old Savannah character and the piano or jazz music its Southern feeling. Couldn't get reservations at the Pink House upstairs, so we were happy to have found out that this place downstairs is first-come and same menu as PH. This place feels like you're dining inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. Cocktails and food were good enough. Service was top notch. I've visited here several times and they have all been positive, which is the only reason this isn't a one star review. Me and my partner stopped by to have a couple drinks and some apps and when we entered, no one was at the door. The pianist greeted us and we proceeded to the bar. There were 3 open seats at the bar so we asked the bartender if we could sit down and he said yes I don't believe these seats are being held for anyone. We set down, were given menus and our drink orders taken... 10 minutes went by and an employee comes up to us and says that these seats are reserved and there is a 1 1/2 hour wait. I understand the wait, what I don't understand is how the bar staff is on a completely different page than the host staff and why the host staff had disappeared for an entire 10-15 minutes. If I would have walked in, been told there was a wait and asked to log our name that would not have been a big deal, I'm a pretty patient person. It's not acceptable to be seated, order and be asked to leave. It was honestly shocking as I know the standards this restaurant/ bar is held to. On any other dat the service and the quality is superb but make sure if you're coming here on a busy night you double check to make sure there isn't a wait. read more

We ate here in July for my bachelorette party. To clarify, this is "The Olde Pink House" that's so famous. Service was very good even for a group of 5 girls. Really pretty atmosphere, gorgeous location. You definitely go for the ambiance. Food was good. They were even able to accommodate my friend with a severe dairy allergy. Cocktails were delicious. Very pricey but I would go back next time in Savannah. Definitely made my trip memorable. read more

After hearing about this restaurant for over a year we arrived as instructed by 4:30, as this establishment doesn't take reservation. We waited in line until they open shortly before 5:00PM. We (a party of 2) were seated promptly. Unlike other larger groups who were told it would be a 90 minute wait! ‍. How could this be when they just opened up their doors?? Our waiter greeted us and presented us with the menus, which we started reviewing. We quickly ordered an app and some wine and the waiter advised it would be best to order our entree also.... I knew I didn't like the sound of this. I just wanted to relax, enjoy my app and have some wine. After all it is only 5:00PM. But was assured by our waiter he would time things so it didn't come out all at once or to close together!! Wrong!!! We received our cheese plate appetizer and before that was finished our mains were presented!! My dinner was the jumbo scallops, instead of mashed potatoes I substituted with Mac and cheese as my side. My husband had the sautéed shrimp and scallops with Parmesan sauce over fettuccine. Keep in mind again we are some of the 1st to be seated. My Mac and cheese was barely warm, my scallops were fine. My husband's dinner was ok but his scallop was loaded with sand! When our waiter approached and asked how everything was I couldn't help but tell him the truth. How we felt so rushed, part of my dinner was cold and how my husband's dinner has sand in it. At this point he apologized, that he should have known our meals would come out quickly etc!! A hollow reply at best, unless this was his first night on the job. Of course he would give us a free whatever. I explained I didn't want anything for free I just wanted him to take the feedback and learn from it. Yet he still came with a small dessert and sent the manager over. I again went through the whole ordeal with the manager and explained we didn't want anything other than for them to hear what we were saying. After looking forward to visiting this restaurant for over a year I honestly with good conscience would not recommend it to anyone. I would hate for anyone else to have the experience we had. It's really a shame because the atmosphere was amazing. if only you could eat atmosphere !!! Just makes me sad!! read more

This is a must when in Savannah. Dark. Candlelit. Piano player. Just loved the vibe going on. We walked in about 8:00. They said it would be about 45 minutes. They took our number and said they would call when a spot opens. 5 minutes later we got a call! Perfect! We sat at the bar. Ordered pulled pork sliders and Planters Punch and the Olde Pink Lady. The Planters Punch was amazing. (I only drink a couple times a year and this was such a yummy drink.). The sliders were good. The bartender and bar back were such good fun to talk to. After we were done we decided to go walk around the Olde Pink House. It was beautiful! We will definitely come again. Hopefully next time we'll eat in the restaurant and come downstairs to the Tavern afterwards. An absolute must if coming to Savannah. read more

Fabulous. My husband and I came in around 5:00 and were seated right away. Ordered our drinks. Mark was our waiter. He was wonderful. Knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations. My husband had the fried grits with Tillamook cheese recommended by our waiter. Fabulous! We had the fresh, stuffed grouper (again our waiter recommended), and my husband was so happy with his choice. I had the pork loin and sweet potato. Very good. Dessert was the special. Loved it! I imagine pirates eating here . It is located under the Olde Pink House. We waited in line a bit to get in at 5pm. It's dark and reminded me of an authentic pirates of the Caribbean type place. Planters Tavern is a really cool place to get a drink. The decor & environment feels like an old 1700s tavern. It's dimly lit and in a basement. That may not sound great, but it fits in perfectly with Savannah. The only downside is the space can be small, so during busier times, it is very packed. This was the best dinner/ dining experience we had on our four day trip to Savannah. It is so romantic, the service is wonderful, and the food is to die for. We were lucky enough to get the vault room. It is the vault from when the building was a bank, and is now the wine cellar. It is a little private space and it is great for a date! I had the grouper special, which was so juicy and flavorful. Surprisingly, the three bean medley was DELICIOUS. Who knew green beans, edamame, and sugar snap peas could be so good? Planter's Tavern is the bar beneath the Pink House restaurant. The Pink House, in its own right, is known for its history and ghosts and fine food, though I feel the food there has slipped and they tend to rest on their good repute now more than anything. There's better places in Savannah now for fine dining, but the tavern is still unique and a worthwhile spot to visit. My now ex-boyfriend used to work at the hotel next door, and he worked evenings, so we'd often enough stop over here for a drink when he got off. The atmosphere is authentic: this is the basement-level of the Pink House and has been turned into a very cozy space for a drink and is filled with a long, traditional, bar and plenty of comfy sofas and chairs. The tavern is known in Savannah for their piano player, who alas was never on duty when I've been in (probably because it's been later at night on weeknights) but there's a piano and apparently still live entertainment at times. Anything from the restaurant's menu can also be ordered in the tavern and this allows one who wants something small to order it, or for that matter someone who feels under-dressed for the posh dining room upstairs to still partake in the Pink House's fare. I've ordered dinner down here on occasion and it's been fine, but not really remarkable. Still, it's very nice to have the option of ordering a snack or salad while drinking here and knowing you'll get at least fairly high-quality food. By the way, the Pink House is also the source of room service for the Planter's Inn next door . . . it might make more sense really to just wander over yourself if staying in the inn and eat at the bar. On a chilly Autumn evening, with the fireplaces and comfy chairs and well-worn woodwork, I cannot think of a better place to be in Savannah as a mist falls on the square outside and a ship sounds its horn down on the river. A very intimate place where you're apt to encounter a visiting lawyer and his wife, a couple local restaurant workers who just got off work for the night, and perhaps a SCAD student or two all in the same evening, the Planter's Tavern is really a treasure. read more

So how do I start this, for I am perplexed.... do I tell the whole story (ie the wild way we heard about Planters Tavern... via the owner of an antique shop; and we have never been to an antique shop together, the HB and myself... and the day just got weirder... I bring it to the mystical, dark, beautiful city of Savannah) or do I just tell you how great this place is?? Oh let's just get to the heart of it, Planters Tavern is just fantastic, hands down. Period. The tavern is located in the basement of The Olde Pink House Restaurant, and yes it's truly a pink house. The Olde Pink House is a beautiful restaurant and reservations are needed, at all times but their is a hidden secret in their basement... and of course that is the Planters Tavern. We walked up the front stairs to this beautiful home and swung open the front door like I was home... the lights were toned down, and you can tell this was an old home for sure... The lovely hostesses greeted us with a smile and their Southern tones, I automatically asked them to be sat in the Tavern and the lovely lady in green asked us to follow her... down a hall, and down this flight of stairs... and everything just got darker and darker... and more and more romantic... when we got there we truly had our choice of seats amongst little nooks, and comfy chairs... a shadowed booth and then there it was, as the hostess called it, the best seats in the house... Two over-stuffed super soft leather wing back chairs, a little wooden table for two... lit by a sole candle. Perfect. (we settled in quite nicely) Our server was Nicole (and we think she was training someone, he was quite nice but we never got his name), and she was excellent. She was smart and bright, caught onto my HB's quick wit and ran with it... she was professional yet humorous at the same time. The perfect server, right after myself of course. The menu is quite expansive, serving traditional Southern cuisine with a wonderful twist (BTW, it's the same menu they serve "upstairs"... item for item). A few of the items on the menu are local as well, and that is a huge plus in our eyes (we love it when "local" places actually use "local" items, whether it be from the land or sea). The HB had a Sweetwater 420 beer (a Georgia beer) and of course I went sparkling, Gruet (it's out of New Mexico, but it's so good).. and the bread basket arrived, house made mini corn bread muffins (nice and hot, and not too sweet) and other house made rolls, SO GOOD! Hard made dinner decisions were made and this is what we went for, with no regrets: *We started with a recommendation from Nicole, a true Southern favorite; Sauteed Local Shrimp with Country Ham Gravy and Cheddar Cheese Grits Cake. Nicole knew that we were splitting the appetizer so she had it delivered on two perfect plates. *Then came my husband's Low-Country She Crab Soup.... velvet in a bowl. I was quite lucky that my husband decided to share, even if it were only a couple of spoonfuls. *Entree's came to follow, I ordered the Braised Pork Shank with Pineapple Glaze, Macaroni & Cheese and Collards... It was so awesome, but so much (let's just say I had to take over half of it home). And the HB ordered a local love, Crab Stuffed Black Grouper, White Wine Lemon Sauce, Mashed Potatoes and Mixed Beans... OMG. Dessert menus were sent out to our table, but we were so full that dessert was not an option... but don't get me wrong; everything on the dessert menu looked absolutely fantastic. A historic building that houses three separate establishments. While dinning left some to be desired I would recommend the candle lit speakeasy esc basement brick bunker bar as a great option for a drink with a small party. The piano player keeps the atmosphere fun and classy. Reminds me of a lafitte's blacksmith shop in NOLA type place, but with a much softer appeal to all generations with hints of a Boston college locals bars. This is one of the few bars in Savannah that is unique enough to warrant a visit every time we're in town. When we have eaten here the food has been good, and we appreciate the less formal setting compared to the restaurant upstairs. This last visit we just sat at the bar for a drink, since we were meeting friends elsewhere for dinner. The bartender was prompt and friendly. When people say the tavern is dimly lit, it's something of an understatement. Even if you come here at night, upon walking in your eyes will still have to adjust to the dark. Aside from the handful of lamps lit with those electronic candle lights (that provide ambiance but not useful light), there are only a couple of electric lamps in the corners. Most of the light seems to come from the candles at the tables and around the bar. Even when sitting near one of those corner lamps, we had to hold a candle up to the drink menu to read it. I love it for that. It's comforting, it's relaxing, and it makes me wish we had something just like it at home. read more

This was the perfect place to end an evening in Savannah. We ordered the cheese tray which was delicious and filling, and also munched on the bread (biscuit) basket. I loved my Beesknees Cocktail and my husband enjoyed his Italian wine. The atmosphere is comfortably intimate with dim lighting (not as dark as other reviews say), wax taper candles on every table and a sassy old lady playing piano and singing show tunes! Out waitress was friendly and even gave us recommendations on other places to eat while in Savannah while we were leaving. Our 45 minute wait turned out to only be about 15-20...
