Plate was absolutely delicious. I had the salmon fillet that was cooked to perfection over a bed of potatoes that were some of the best I've ever tasted. The service was prompt, friendly and personable. I never felt like I had to wait long to order anything. It should also be said that this is a beautiful restaurant with tall ceilings, big rooms and an open floor that has a classy and contemporary feel. Just had one of the best meals I've ever enjoyed in the Bee Cave/Lakeway area. The Ahi Poke appetizer was amazing. Loved the Taro chips. The Halibut entree was light and very tasty. My wife and I stopped here for some lunch after shopping at the Galleria. We were seated, given water by the host and then told that our waiter would be there soon to take our orders. Not long after, the waitress came and took our drink order, which was one latte. That was pretty much the last time she spoke to us. For the next 15 minutes we watched her go to other tables apologizing for some issue with their pizza oven, and we never got a latte or our food orders taken. The host came up and apologized for the pizza oven being broken, but we haven't even ordered yet, much less weren't interested in their pizza. By that point it was clear this waitress was overwhelmed by the tables she was serving, with little to no help from the host. We weren't trying to spend the next two hours getting lunch, so we left before the waitress was able to even start making my latte. Not an efficient operation. read more

Absolutely love Plate. Amazing vibe with great decor, you can tell the owners put a lot of thought into every detail. The food is insane. The mussels and frites are to die for. You'll be tempted to ask for a straw to enjoy every last drop of the buttery cream sauce at the bottom of the bowl. The short rib was melt in your mouth delectable with a rich red wine reduction and perfectly whipped potatoes. Inconsistency ruined my fiancé's birthday. We came here once, last year, and the service and food was exceptional. 5 stars all around. However, tonight's lackluster performance and chaotic mess lead to a complete plane crash of a Birthday for my fiancé - 1 month before our wedding date might I add. Upon arrival we were seated at a table that was tipping over if you so much as tapped it - something I expect from a food truck, not fine dining. We politely asked to be moved, and the hostess and server were more than accommodating - so far so good, would have been fine. What followed, though, was 1 good dish (the escargot) and a mac n cheese that could hardly be described as such (more like some pasta with melted cheese and pieces of what looked like frozen shrimp - something a 12 year old could have whipped together in 5 minutes). My drink came a good 15 minutes after being ordered, and then my fiancé's took another 5-10 minutes, and after we had to ask the server to check up on it. I could tell our server was frazzled and was certainly not his fault. Turns out there was a wedding party there tonight in a private room (the nice room we were sat in last time, but of course) and apparently took up the entire kitchen and staff's full attention. Things were so bad we had to cut our check early and cancel our replacement appetizer - we were so turned off we didn't even have time to order our entrees. My advice to the owner and management - if you are going to have a private party and cannot properly staff for it, let them have the whole restaurant, rather than tarnish your establishment's hard-earned reputation and good name. People come here expecting 5 star tastes and service it is beyond unfortunate to see such inconsistency. Sadly we can never again risk a special event at Plate. read more

Tried this place for the first time last night on the recommendation of friends. Two of my favorite things to eat are poke and caprese salad. Those were the first two things on the menu! We frequently go to Dzintra. We called ahead of time asking if we could have a small dog on the patio. The girl who answered said yes. Once we arrived the bartender ran to us berating us telling us that we could not come in with the dog. It was rude and unprofessional for us to be talked to that way. We have been to the restaurant many times. I am so disappointed by the bartender's behavior. He said we could not walk into his restaurant with a dog, and on top of that couldn't bring outside drinks(coffee). He was extremely rude, I have a feeling if we were a group of white men, this wouldn't have been his reaction. When we called back to speak to the manager, no one answered. Unfortunately we will think twice before going there again. We left the restaurant embarrassed and upset, due to his behavior. We went and spent our money at another restaurant. read more

I seldom do reviews and if I do I always write about how great the experience were. But this time I'm extremely disappointed about the way this restaurant treat their customers. We saw all the 5 star reviews about this restaurant and decided we should have our birthday celebration here. It was kind of OK for our dining experience other than some issues on splitting bills. But the day after we found there's a cake charge on the bill, I'm not sure whether the waiter accidentally got it wrong, since we bring our own cake. Or It is something else like plate charges etc. So I called the restaurant and really nice asked about what the $25 cake charges for. Then all the unbelievable conversation started. Till now I can't believe what happened, since we came because of all the good things about this restaurant, but what I experienced is unbelievable. It was the owner (per what he said, since during the conversation I asked whether I can talk to his manager) picked up the phone and start being really rude and said yes, I did the charges and we were really kind that only charged you $25. We are a restaurant , it is a shame that you bring your food in, how about you bring your whole dinner in? Then I said, you should tell us once we walked in and your restaurant don't accept outside food, then we will leave it. (Actually once we walked in, the waiter was even really nice to ask where to put the cake etc.) Then he said, you should ask! We allow people to bring in, but additional charges. Then I said: once we asked the waiter to bring the cake to table, he didn't mention about any charges! Then he said it is not waiter's job to tell you! You should asked. Then I said any restaurant should inform their customer what they're gonna charge their customer. If you tell us ahead of time, we're totally fine with that. Then I asked for a refund. Then he started saying we're a luxury restaurant, we will not tell people don't bring food in, you're really rude! We make cakes ! I can even give you the cake! We can not issue refund, I will give you money back, you need to walk in, I will give u cash. Then i said, we don't care about the $25, but I never seen a restaurant like this! You're being really rude! We will not come to your restaurant again! He said, oh, no you care ! You asked for the refund! Then I said, your restaurant doesn't deserve us! You can keep the charges. I hate leaving a less than stellar review for Plate by Dzintra but my experience last light was exactly that. I would go as far as to say that my experience last night hurt me to my soul. Dramatic sounding, but here is why it was so important to me. I can almost count the times I've had fresh sea bass in my life on one hand. It is a special treat for me in life and in this case was a splurge because I wanted to treat myself for Christmas dinner. Every time I have had sea bass it has literally melted in my mouth. Not last night. Not only did it take 50 minutes from the moment I placed my order to receive my plate, but I received, and unfortunately ate, the first and only over cooked chewy sea bass I have had in my life. The bartender Casey kept apologizing for the exorbitant amount of time it was taking for my food to come out. I told him, as long as it comes out right, I'm good. It didn't come out alright. It was clearly over cooked. The manager saw it and confirmed it was at least medium well. I implored him to take a bite off of the untouched end to see how crappy my $45 sea bass was. What is his solution, by me a drink. Yeah, that makes up for ruining my Christmas meal that was a personal treat, a splurge that I don't often indulge in. To be completely honest, I should've forced the issue and sent it back. I felt like that would be uncool since it was after 9:40 on Christmas Eve and they were scheduled to close at 10. Granted, I ordered at 8:40. Anyhow, I have made better fish dishes at my house with lesser quality cuts of fish and that's just sad. Last night was less than a two star experience. It was truly a disappointment to a whole other level, like ruining my Christmas Eve bad. I guess the manager buying me a drink should make up for that though, right? Plate is the best and has been since they opened several years ago. The food is so good and the service is awesome. Her menus are so creative and we've never been disappointed with any order. The atmosphere is very welcoming and Dzintra herself mingles with the patrons making the place a lot of fun. When we have friends in from out of town we like to take them to Plate. When we arrive there is always a funny look on their faces as we arrive at a strip center in suburbia but that look always turns to smiles as we enter the place and the awesome food begins to be tasted. read more

Our server was great, but it took well over an hour to get food to our table and the sea bass was absolutely raw. My friends and I had a really bad experience with this restaurant. This is my first time to write a review on yelp since I think it worths to let others know about our experience and judge by themselves. Last week, we had a ladies' night at this restaurant. A couple of my friends' birthdays are in Nov. So I brought a cake to celebrate. When I entered into the restaurant, no one told me that it was not allowed or would be charged. Instead, the waiters asked if I would like to have them serve the cake later after the dinner. I said OK. During the dinner, we got service with low quality - the waiters brought the wrong dishes to us and didn't even know who ordered which food. In the end, the waiter refused to split the bill. We didn't argue on that and paid with one credit card. But compared to what happened on the next day, these things is trivial even not worth to mention. When we split the bill ourselves the next day, I looked into the bill carefully and found there was a $25 cake charge. Since no early warning on this, I asked my friend T who used her credit card to pay the bill about this charge. She told me that it might be the service fee and she would call to confirm (the cake was not even cut). We really don't care about this small amount of money but just want to be sure and let everyone who share the bill know what this was charged for! Then what happened next was really drama and made us shocked. T just nicely called asked what this charges for but got rude and insulting reply from the owner. I have never seen or even heard such owner before. I really don't know what to say! It is not about the $25 charge - we don't even care about this, it is really about his attitudes and the way they treated their customer! I can't say enough about this gem. The inside is so comfortable, colorful and charming. My experience and all those with me could not stop raving about the wine, the service and of course the food! I had a super underwhelmed lunch here several months ago and kind of forgot about this place until a friend posted about Dzintra on FB. The menu changes daily/weekly based on local or not so local food she orders. So when I saw her Hawaii menu I quickly made a reservation for me and my 2 best girlfriends as it advertised "fresh as it gets line-caught fish that was swimming in the ocean 24 hours ago"! We decided on the Stripped Marlin Carpaccio as an Appetizer and it was an excellent choice! Thin slices of Nairagi, orange and grapefruit juices yuzu vinaigrette with slices of grapefruit and asparagus. Next we had the Nigri Sushi & Sashimi Platter that had Salmon and several types of Tuna with better than most Sushi rice (I am not a fan of rice). The Raw fish was as fresh as I have had and all had a melt in your mouth butter texture! For the main course we shared the Slow Braised Pork Belly. The meat was melt in your mouth tender with a ginger/soy/garlic/sesame sauce with slight spicy kick served atop rice pilaf tossed with pineapple & macadamia nuts. This dish was as perfect as it gets for savory/sweet plus mouth feel! For dessert we shared a Mango Sorbet served in a Martini glass with a splash of Prosecco! Second time at the Plate. This time for the birthday of my Honey (10/25). She ordered Borgne Inspired Shrimp Toast which she said was very good. I ordered the Hudson Valley Foie Gras which was good. It was a different from the French Foie Gras with red wine and truffle that I am use to ordering in Paris but it satisfied my craving for foie gras. For the main course the birthday girl ordered Cherry Glazed Lamb Chops which she enjoyed very much; I was looking to order the crispy duck (which is one of my favorites) but they where fresh out of, so what has a guy to do; I ordered the Alaskan Halibut and it was good but maybe not as good as the crispy duck. For desert my sweetie had the NYC cheese cake which she liked very much, while I had another glass of pinot noir (wish they had some French wine to go with the good food). I would also want to say that Jordan took care of us really well. I would also want to say the same for Jay from our previous visit. Still amazed how these guys can handle all the front of the house all by themselves. Excellent job guys. We will certainly be back; hopefully they will have my crispy duck. read more

I did see some reviews saying that their quality is inconsistent, so I guess I was just being unlucky that day. A little disappointed since they appear to be a fine dining place. The new fad of a word "YAASSSS" describes my feelings towards Plate By Dzintra. First of all its very cute and cozy, and by cozy I mean make a reservation well in advance, there are only maybe 7 tables but that coincides with the food being fabulous as they really put the effort in. It is beer and wine only, but a good selection at that. The menu is small, like 5 app choices, 5 or 6 meal choices, but that is not to a fault. I went with a group of 9 and we all just ate off each others plates so we could try it all. 2 meals were just ok, but the rest were fabulous. Rumor has it that the menu changes frequently but if you go and the scallop risotto is an option, DO IT. For desert we had a butterscotch pot de crème and bread pudding, both good but the pot de crème definitely trumped, it was absolutely amazing and light. read more

Well we gave the new location a try and what a disappointment. Hair in the appetizer, wife's steak that was ordered medium rare came out medium well. After several minutes flagged down another waiter as our waitress was no where to be seen and pointed out the over cook. He apologized. We got another steak that was better. Let me start by saying that Plate By Dzintra has become our favorite restaurant in the area. We always enjoy seeing Dzintra the Owner and a Chef. The restaurants ambiance is relaxed but classy. On Wednesday, they have live Jazz music. The restaurant has a great location within the Hill Country Shops across 71 from the Galleria Mall. Their outdoor patio is a perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail, small bites or a dinner date. The ambiance is very relaxing. We have many favorite dishes like their roasted Pork Chop and steak frites, Halibut is delicious and their AHI Poke is amazing! All their desserts are made from scratch at the restaurant. Their menu Is innovative and delicious! They have a beautiful selection of wines and their bar is welcoming while meeting interesting people that live in the area. This place is a gem!! read more

My husband and I visited Plate this past weekend (our second time eating here) and loved it! The interior is beautiful and eclectic, definitely not stuffy, old fashioned. Our server (I believe her name was Flora) was fantastic. Attentive, friendly, funny, and everything you want your server to be. We opted to do just appetizers- bao buns, mussels, shrimp, and brisket grilled cheese. All four were absolutely delicious, but if I had to pick, I'd say the bao buns were my favorite. I'd order about 3 plates of those and skip dinner. So nice not having to go downtown for a quality meal in a fun place. This place is definitely my new favorite! read more

I hope this restaurant makes it; there are so few GOOD, nicer, restaurants around the galleria and this one is really good. As for the food: We have both dined in and had take-out from Plate; both were delish!!! Take-out is rarely as good as getting in the restaurant but it was just as fabulous! We've had the Ahi tuna poke and the tuna "nachititos" both were great! I could do without the green peppers on the poke but that's just person preference; both were fresh and well done! For entrees we've had the salmon (my husband said maybe the best he's ever had), the short-rib, the "best ever" stuffed shells, and the pork chop; all awesome!!! I will also agree that the "best ever" stuffed shell are literally the best I've ever had!!! The meat is seasoned really well and, for stuffed pasta, it's not too heavy! For dessert we've had the cheesecake (again, one of the best I've ever had) and the strawberry-rhubarb special. I don't like rhubarb but my husband said it's wonderful. Drinks...when we dined-in my husband had a cab that was really big but also very fruity (he had 3 glasses he liked it so much) and I had the tequila cocktail (just ok). As for service, I would say here is where they need some work. Our server seemed so over-whelmed that she would just drop stuff and the table & literally sprint away. She was nice and seemed genuine but I think she was just too busy. The place is still new so I'm not putting much weight on that; they're still figuring out staffing and busy vs. non-busy nights. For the ambience I'd say maybe it also needs some work. The restaurant is huge and, I believe that even if it were slammed, it would still feel empty & a little cold. It needs big heavy curtains or something to warm it up. There's also contradicting color schemes...some red here, some green there, some crystals here, some steel there. It just don't feel connected but, again, I'm more about the food some I"m not going to put much weight into the look of the place. What this place needs: A SIGN!!!! We would have never known this place was there if my husband didn't go to Best Buy all the time. There's no sign on the back of the building, which faces the road, or a sign at the corner, like other restaurants. Like I said, I hope this place lasts!
