A group of 6 enjoyed our Christmas luncheon there. We all had the quiche and salad and it was delicious. Some had the spinach tomato quiche and others had the jalapeño cheddar quiche as they only had 4 pieces of the spinach quiche. I had the jalapeño cheddar which was good but would have preferred the spinach as it looked really good. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very nice. This review is going to be my all-time favorite. Before a long road trip, I decided to try a new place and Yelp'd a venue where I was at, at the time and this venue popped up. I walked in and two adorable, nice, kind young ladies approached me, and I was able to pick any table or sit at the bar, so I chose the bar. As I was reading through the menu, I was talking out loud on what the soup of the day was and the kind bartender started sharing what it was and OMG, it was someone I hadn't seen in over twenty years....it was this beautiful soul, beautiful friend, Rosi; this precious lady hadn't aged and still super awesome. Overdue contribution, but today I was looking for a place to fine dine in the Hill Country Galleria area and came across Plate. I hesitated to write a review before because I really like to support local businesses; however, the food was so underwhelming and overall forgettable. The presentation was mostly nice (Lincoln Log fries though?!..so 80s; a few sloppy plates). Sadly, everything we ordered looked much better than it tasted. The steak au poivre was tender, but had absolutely no flavor. The fish was dry, the rib was salty and quite a small portion for the price. The smoked salmon tasted as if it came straight out of a plastic container from the market. [Yes, we all share bites...;)] I realize Plate has been around forever and has so many loyal followers that absolutely love it. Based on all the positive reviews, I was hoping to become one of those people. Unfortunately, it did not happen and I will not be back. 3 stars for effort, and I just can't force myself to knock a local eatery down to 2...which is probably more appropriate, especially at the menu's price point. I would not recommend using this restaurant for any kind of special event or occasion. I made a recommendation for a client of mine. He and his wife were celebrating their 10 year anniversary. I made the reservation online. In order to link it to my phone, it had to be under my name. That's just how open table works. The day before the reservation, I went in to chat with someone to make sure things would go smoothly I talked to Amy. The goal was to put my card down to cover the cost of the whole meal plus gratuity and ensure when my client came in, they would know the reservation was for him. She was very short with me the entire conversation. She wasn't working the night of the event so I asked if she could let the manager know what was going on. She replied "I'll alert the media." Well Amy did not alert the media. Nor did she let anyone know. When my client arrived. They could not find the reservation and I had to call multiple times because no one answered the first time. I would recommend going elsewhere when planning a special event. If you decide to go here, don't work with Amy. read more

Wishing we tried this place sooner! Took a friend to dinner because I couldn't tell if this was a place our whole family would like or not. They have a variety menu an upscale vibe, but very friendly (not pretentious). I will definitely be back with family and friends. I'm sure this will turn into a frequent dining place for us. We shared so I tried the park, halibut, vodka cherry limeade, and bites of a trio of desserts: peach, espresso Crème brûlée, chocolate cake. Halibut was amazing, cooked perfectly. The espresso crème brûlée bowl was almost licked clean. Our server was friendly and "on it". The manager stopped by to check on our satisfaction and was also very friendly. From the appetizers to the salad and entrees all the way through the desserts and wines I have had the pleasure of enjoying 2 meals here so far and both were incredible each time. Came here to celebrate my partners birthday as I heard the chef trained in France and my partner is for anything French inspired. First off I'll say this place is inconspicuous as it's located in the back of a shopping plaza but as soon as you step in your transported to an elegant dining experience. Chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, deep green accent chairs & curtains, & LED fireplaces throughout made this restaurant super romantic for this celebration. Now let's get to the food..for starters I went with the nachositos which are pretty hard to describe but envision a deep fried fish croquette which is more delicious than I can explain. Then for entree I went with the scallops and risotto both cooked to perfection and my partner went with the lasagna. To end the evening we went with our waitress recommendation and got the Creme brûlée which was perfectly balanced on the sweet scale. My only ding to the place is the menus online we're not updated to the current menus at the restaurant as one of the top drinks and food selections I wanted to try we're no longer available. I will say it definitely helps for restaurants to be consistent with the online to in person experience so hope they address this but overall I'd come back here to sit on their lovely patio when it's a bit warmer and can for sure recommend this place for any special occasion. read more

Spent my very precious ladies night out there last Friday and was very disappointed about this fine dining food and service, compare the price and the taste is not worth to go back again, I ordered their crab and shrimp dish, but hardly to see the crab, it's actually flavorless and the portion is not big as a dinner size. We intended to order some deserts to celebrate our friends birthday and didn't know one of our friend bought a small cake already, and the waitress was serving us some small plates for the cake, but without telling us there will be a charge for the cake service fees of $25, I have worked at the restaurant for seven years back in Uni. So I know that the basic skill of a waitress is to let the customers know what gonna charge if there is one, instead of doing nothing and put into the bill, which is very disrespectful, if they mentioned that at the first place we would love to accept and understand it or we will order other deserts from the restaurant and help them make more money. We've been charged for 20% tip but they refused to help us separate the bills. I normally don't leave negative reviews due to I trust all services will grow, but this one made our special day really unhappy and sad. This is definitely an upscale restaurant that serves exquisite food and the service is excellent as well. I've never had a bad meal there and everyone we bring there is very happy with our choice of restaurant. I've seen some posts that speak about her prices, and yes they are higher than most restaurants in the area but worth every cent! Disappointing experience. Main dining room is really pretty. We had reservations and were sat in back room with leaky air conditioning - told no other table available in main dining when had to reseat-which we later found out was not true. So sat at a nearby table in same room. We had poor service the entire night . The server was not attentive and no water glasses refilled until after our check. Dry not moist carrot cake. I have been dining at Plate since it has opened and to be clear more than 25 times or more. These visits occurred before Covid and after Covid. The experience has always been special for myself and especially for my family and friends. Since return from the plague of the 21st century, or Covid 19; some places and Plate being one of them has decided to use this as an excuse to just not allow things that have previously occurred before and after Covid 19. It's not that big of deal but on the occasion of a birthday, we brought along "Susie Cakes" https://susiecakes.com and upon sitting down with a party of 10 were instructed "you vill not bring outside food in dis establishment due to Covid restrictions" I said that is strange as we have always done this. I stated "You allow corking fee, so just charge me a caking fee" She repeated there are no exceptions. I asked if it was policy it should be on the website. After perusal of the website, it made no mention of it! Once again no big deal, but to use Covid as an excuse is just LAME. The President of the United States recently allowed cuocakes on the White House grounds. So what's up with that? Somebody explain it to me. So rather than turning this Covid issue into more than what it is, we will just enjoy this most excellent meal and then order the Dzintra by Plate delicious desserts. We will take the cupcakes and just eat them in the parking lot. I'm summary this review is more about the ridiculousness of using Covid 19 as an excuse. I'm a bit taken aback how many ratings below 4 stars seems to earn a personal rebuke by the owner...nevertheless, I'm reluctant to rate it higher than 3 stars. We have eaten at Plate once or twice a month since its opening. Here in the Bee Cave/Lakeway area there's a dearth of fine dining and good service, and Plate tries to bring a much needed solution to that. It often succeeds, but it also often fails. Some dishes (short ribs, lobster risotto, short rib grilled cheese, steak & mashed potatoes, all of the delicious appetizers & desserts) always deliver a satisfying punch of flavor but there is a definite hit-or miss quality to many of their items & service, no matter what the owner may say. There literally hasn't been more than a handful of times we've eaten there that both the service and the food were 5 star at the same time. Do we pipe up when the dishes aren't to our satisfaction? Most often, yes. And they're gracious about it and try to rectify it. But for the price point of the food & drink it happens way, way too often that at least one of the dishes just flat out wasn't executed well. What triggered me to write this review was our dining experience last night. My halibut was rock-hard, and husbands' lobster fettuccine had literally zero flavor (which he just ate without complaining). I told our waiter about my fish and he offered to bring me another one, but by that point I was just disappointed and didn't want to take my chances on Round Two. So I ate the accompanying side dish of rice & peas (zero flavor except for the bite of jalapeños) and a wedge of tomato. The waiter graciously comped a glass of Sancerre as an apology but still -that was one expensive rice & tomato dinner :). Are we glad they're here and do we plan to continue going regularly? Yes. I've now been to Plate a 1/2 dozen times and this is one of the most consistent fine dining establishments I've been to. Every meal I've had there has been perfect and dishes like their day boat scallops are consistently great every time I've been there. On the latest visit I ordered their new tuna poke (see pic) which was fantastic. The quality of the sashimi grade tuna was wonderful as was the preparation with fresh avocado and the sauce. BTW, this is a generous size appetizer so for 2-3 people I would split it. I also tried a new entree, the bone-in pork chop. It came with the creamiest mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. The pork chop (see pic) was huge and I don't know how they could cook such a large chop all the way through without making it dry. That said, this chop was MOIST and flavorful. Again, as with the poke appetizer I would almost say the chop should be split between too people. Plate is unique for high-end dining in that the quality of the food is matched by the generous portion sizes. Wherever you live in Austin Plate should be on your radar. read more

Not quite sure what happened to this place. We patronized this restaurant since it was a hole in the wall and it's always been first rate on every level. The quality of the food, ambiance and service was amazing. The last three dinners over a year were noticeably different. The menu was totally changed and the food quality has suffered to the point of being subpar despite a shocking spike in prices. Service is slow and the waitstaff act like they hate their job. I have gone to this restaurant several times. I have noticed a slight decline in the food, but thought it would excel for Easter Brunch. Unfortunately, I was absolutely wrong. The food was mediocre at best. Very disappointed with the service and the high prices. If you are looking for bland atmosphere and small expensive portions this is the place for you. I would certainly not go back. I was still hungry by the time I left the restaurant. Shocked they are still in business. An 8 Oz. Steak and fries for $70. No side salad or anything. As far as your pricing goes you are double the price of Capital Grill. So no excuses for food costs. Also, we waited over an hour for our food and the restaurant was only half full at best. Your response to my review is not correct. We did not split a kids meal. We had 2 kids under 13 years old. My wife even had to get up to get salt because the staff was no where to be seen. We didn't order drinks because the menu prices are not reasonable. We eat out all of the time and I have never had this kind of sticker shock for what you would receive. I don't know why this place has so many great reviews. We were excited to try it out and thought it could be a great weekly date night. It's fairly dressy and seems like a very classy place. The food unfortunately, was horrible. Maybe we missed an opportunity to eat mainly small plates. The entrees were disgusting. Everything was so overly salted and the meals looked like nursing home food. Nasty mashed potatoes and overcooked vegetable medley as sides. Not gourmet at all. Wouldn't recommend to my 90 year old grandmother - although I'm sure she'd love it. read more
