This place looks very unassuming from the outside. It's almost hidden away. The inside is lovely. I had lunch with a friend out on the patio. We ordered the tzatziki, Tirokafteri, skordalia, zucchini fritters, saganaki, and the avgolemono soup. All the dips were delicious. My favorite was the Tirokafteri - spicy feta dip and avgolemono soup. This seems like a great spot to get together with friends as dishes are fantastic to share, particularly the dips. I loved their food! Really delicious! Their hot appetizer with the longest name so such an amazing tasting one - more like Zucchini fritters but the dipping sauce gives an added taste to it. Loved it! I also got Banana Crisp from their desserts menu, soo yummy and recommended everyone to do try it. read more

I rarely leave a meal as genuinely satisfied and happy as I did at Plateia. I'm clearly not alone in my appreciation of this establishment, so I will be brief. The food is super on point. The presentation is excellent. The dishes are creative. I believe the menu is pretty typical of Greek food, but it certainly is done with flair. Went there today had the grilled chicken it was way too salty and the rice was as well. Plenty of parking and the place is gorgeous both inside and out. We sat outside on their spacious patio which is covered to protect one from any occasional drizzle or other falling debris. We ordered the saganaki. I was hoping it would come out flaming but it didnt; but it tasted good. The menu prices for the food were fair. I ordered the Chicken and Pork Skewers with a side of grilled veggies. It also came with pita bread. Meats were tender and juicy. My friends ordered the Shrimp Skewer & their version of Eggplant Lasagna - both were happy with their meal. For drinks I had the chocolate martini and then a mango margarita; not knowing how much they cost since their prices were not listed on the drink menu. Turned out the one drink cost almost as much as my food! (~$14 each) Oh well. The martini was worth it but I was a little disappointed in the margarita: size and taste. My experience would have been better if our waitress smiled at least once. She was all business and no hospitality. Our busboys didn't talk either, they would just make jesters toward our empty plates or fill our water without asking first. At least service was quick and the atmosphere was pleasant. read more

Stopped by a couple days ago with my cousin, and it wasn't our first time around. We usually come with a big group and they accommodate to big parties really well. Our waitress was great and the wait staff was constantly filling our waters (which is SO appreciated). We ordered a horiatiki salad for the table, a good staple salad. I'm vegetarian and ordered a pita with fried zucchini inside which was SO delicious and a great vegetarian option. The fries were perfectly cooked and the tzatziki was really fresh. A great modern greek restaurant! There's a large patio outside. Ironically it's located right next to a Taco Bell, but the plants and patio are built to where you would have no idea it's next door. There's also a private event space outdoors you can reserve. We ordered the saganaki, calamari, and kolokithokeftedes (fried zucchini). The chicken skewers were cooked perfectly. A lot of the waiters are Greek and the owner is also from the Greek Islands. Definitely my new favorite spot! read more

One of the best Greek restaurants in Chicago land. Make sure you come before 6 PM. Otherwise they'll be a big wait. It was packed with ethnic Mediterraneans. All the food and drink was fantastic. We loved the Bronzino and shrimp in particular. The lamb chops also looked amazing. read more

I have been going to Plateia since they opened! I go there so frequently that at least a few of the employees recognize me. As with other reviews, food is consistently great, wait is worth it, etc. However, I was shocked by the rudeness and argumentative nature of two recent waiters in the last week. Two! Three if you count the woman bringing out the appetizers. I don't remember if I've ever sent a dish back - at any restaurant - but I doubt it. Last week, I ordered a cold appetizer and it was a "Greek language" mixup for me. A waitress brought out that cold appetizer for my table as well as 2 others. I realized my mistake as she approached, declined the dish, and waved it away. She really scowled at me and immediately went to get out waiter. I explained my mistake, acknowledged my mistake, and reminded him that it had never touched me or my table and that multiple diners had the same dish. He was furious and argued and argued with me, which I didn't expect at all. I mean, he was furious. He finally said he'd have to get the manager - at whom I pointed and said, Sure! Get him! I know him and the matter was settled there and then. And I ordered something else. TWO DAYS later, the same thing happened. My sister and I went in, and we ordered literally the most expensive things on the menu for her birthday dinner! Towards the end of the meal, my sister called the waiter over and told him her glass of wine was awful. Sour. Like vinegar. Like the waiter of two days earlier, he became really angry, REALLY angry and started arguing that she should have called him over earlier. She said she tasted it for a few sips until she decided that it was unpleasant. Instead of handling it, he continued to berate her, saying, "you need to have called me over from the first sip! The first sip!!" and she asked why? Would you then serve it again?" He stalked off, the manager waved at him, and we paid the bill and left. The thing is, I haven't had to argue about anything there, but I HAVE noticed that there isn't any service from the waiters. They take your order and that's it until the end. Except for the ubiquitous guys filling the water glasses. And yet all three service people reacted the same way. Why? read more

Every dish I've had the opportunity to explore is magical. While I've never graced the Greek isles, I imagine myself against their backdrop while indulging in the cuisine here. This restaurant pairs a contemporary atmosphere and exquisite Greek cuisine. The portions are plentiful, and the only thing more robust, is their flavor! Their marinades are incredible-rich and complementary to the meal. Faves: lamb shank over rice pilaf, pork chops, meat platter and octopus. Saganaki - epic (granted, I'm obsessed with all things cheese). The tang of the lemon brings a freshness to the molten gooey goodness. Lemon soup: HITS THE SPOT! I'd swim in a kiddie pool's worth if given the chance. The Olive oil they serve with their beautifully baked bread is unparalleled. It's difficult not to overeat before your main course arrives. I highly recommend dining here- lunches are easy to get a table for vs evening when they are packed by all the locals who know how phenomenal of a restaurant Plateia is. One of our go to dinner stops now is Plateia! We've visited twice in the span of a month. The first time, we were blown away by the attentive and kind service, tasty flaming cheese, and freshness of the chicken skewers and pork belly. The warm sesame bread is a great pre-dinner carb! On the second visit, I ordered the moussaka, which was a decent sized portion and came out piping hot. As far as sides, you have your choice of oven roasted potatoes, veggies, French fries, and rice. Skip the fries, as they are overly greasy. I don't necessarily recommend dessert here either. The $6 eclair slice was overly sweet and mediocre at best. Get your fill of the good stuff: saganaki flaming cheese and meat skewers! Complimentary valet parking and OpenTable reservations available here! Plateia = Town Square I'm always fascinating by names of restaurants and their meanings. Town Square is like a central place to come together. I ordered take-out, but here's what you should know. The restaurant has a very upscale feel to it. Most people were dressed up, some even wearing suits. On a Sunday night, during COVID, the place was packed. The parking lot seemed full, and they have valet parking. I didn't see much of the inside, but they have a really nice outdoor patio that was full of people. Overall it seemed like a really nice place to have dinner, maybe for a date or special occasion. The food was all very good, so I won't go too much into details. I would definitely order from them again and would love to go and eat at the restaurant. I highly recommend trying it! read more

3 of us came here for a birthday celebration - made a reservation for 7pm on a Sunday which didn't end up mattering because we had to sit at the bar and wait for our table for over 30 mins. We got an apology from the hostess and manager(I think that's what he was) but no offer of a comp'd appetizer or something simple like that, which goes far from a first impression perspective. Restaurant 101... Moving on to the food, we started with the Greek Trio dip which was a nice way to try 3 of their dips with delicious warmed pita. We then ordered the octopus which was also perfectly cooked with great flavors. We each ordered an entree thinking we could all share but the portions are a lot larger than we expected and they didn't come out at the same time like originally told. The pastichio was big! This was probably my least favorite item that we ordered but still good. We then received our shrimp risotto shortly after that - this was rather salty but good flavors. We were then informed that there was a mess up with the lamb chops and it would be a little while before we got them. So by the time we got these we were all so full and couldn't enjoy the freshly made lamb chops. Again, no offer of anything compd. As much as I'd like to say I'll be back, this experience was rather disappointing especially since it was a big birthday celebration. read more

I'd give this 4 and a half if I was able. Just a couple little things kept it from being 5. We went mid-afternoon on a Saturday. We made a reservation although it wasn't crowded, so we would have been fine without it. The food was excellent -- Saganaki (not flamed at table, though), Loukaniko, Kalamakia (and the fries with feta were good), Mixed Grill, Lamb Psito, and desserts of the Eclair and Baklava Cheesecake. The bread was good -- fresh and homemade -- and served with a large bottle of olive oil for self-administering. A pepper grinder was standard table equipment, along with a shaker of sea salt. The only disappointments were the Bloody Marys I ordered -- I guess I was expecting more, and they were very plain, run-of-the-mill -- and the fact that the beers were all bottled or canned, no draft. The first Bloody Mary was garnished with three small olives (minus pimentos, which is a plus for me), and the second with a small lime slice and two olives. Make up your mind, folks! (And please add a little of your own personality -- It was just a bottled mix -- and maybe some salt on the rim?) Service was good but not remarkable. The bus staff were almost too present -- they tried to remove plates before we were through with our appetizers -- yet the server didn't remove my appetizer plate when delivering my dinner, even though it was empty and I was clearly finished. read more

Having recently traveled to Athens and Santorini in the past few months, I was completely impressed by the food, service, and ambiance of Plateia. Everything about the restaurant reminded me of Greece. The music, the fast paced service, the decor, etc. Plus this was probably the most authentic Greek food I've had in the Chicagoland area. Of course nothing compares to the freshness of the seafood we had when we were in the Mediterranean, but the octopus was about as good as we could get here in Chicagoland. It was char-grilled to perfection, and swimming in lemon juice and olive oil (nothing is ever wrong with that). When I ordered the pork pita wrap, I thought I was ordering a pork gyro (still haven't had anything as good as the one I had in Athens). Instead, it was more like a pork skewer in a pita wrap. Still it was quite delicious with large chunks of meat, tzatziki sauce, tomato, and onion. A little late to review this place, so the details are fuzzy. But wow, was this place impressive. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious- the star of the show being the Char-Grilled Chicken with lemon. We ordered two hot appetizers (Greek sausages and baked feta cheese in Phyllo and drizzled with honey and figs) and a main dish (Greek patties) and all of them were great. The drink list was adequate but they only had limited craft and imported beers, no draft ones. Services were prompt and friendly. One of the best meals we've ever had! We were staying nearby before an O'Hare flight. Parking is hard if busy but staff was attentive and friendly when we came in, took our names and things moved quickly. Actually quite a large place. We sat in back covered patio area. Very nice. Lamb Psito with potatoes- 4 Good dish overall, but wished the lamb shank wasn't overcooked/tough. The lamb is baked with potatoes, and the potatoes are excellent. Lamb Youvetsi - 4 Braised lamb with orzo... good, but lamb was a bit overcooked. Lattes- 4 Service- 5 Worth visiting if you live in the suburbs. Delicious mezedes (appetizers). We love skordalia and beets, gigantes, spanakopita, and horiatiki salad. The orange pie (portokalopita) and custard crepe are phenomenal desserts. When this restaurant first opened both the food and service/hospitality were second to none. Over the past year or so both have deteriorated. The food is still pretty good..most of it. Stick with the Greek dishes. Fantastic! The salmon should be avoided. Now let's switch to service and hospitality. The manager does not know how to make customers feel welcome. The restaurant was EMPTY. We arrived at 4:50 because they stopped taking reservations. (Terrible service 'policy' #1). I understand no res is easier for management. But for older Greek ladies who can't wait two hours to sit and eat that isn't acceptable. So on to terrible service 'policy' #2. The man who I assume is a manager (wearing a vest today) began to lecture me about how they will not seat us until our whole party arrives. Normally I get it. Did I mention the restaurant was EMPTY because we arrived at 4:50pm? If he were smart he would never use the word 'policy' with a guest ever again. And he would also realize that he should have seated us without me making a fuss about how hungry I was. Because if you seat me then we'll order more drinks and more appetizers. For those of you who understand the restaurant business you know that's where the margins occur. So way to go arrogant restaurant manager who likes to rattle off policy instead of practicing how to be filotimos. That's a Greek word that doesn't translate to English. It means something beyond hospitable and friendly. Finally Mr Manager... you have not properly trained your wait staff. They should not cross in front of someone who is about to take a bite of food and cause them to spill their soup. They should take the extra three steps to walk around and pick up the plate from the side. And let's talk about the soup. It was fantastic! But... it was supposed to come with the special. My fiancé had to remind the server of that. And when he did she proceeded to inform us that they ran out of soup and had to 'make more'.
