For me, I had hit a point where I was frustrated with Chicago salons. I didn't understand why there were two people doing your hair: one assistant that put the relaxer in your hair and the other the style. Either way trying to find the right stylist since I have moved here has been hard and my hair has taken a toll. I went to Jonathan over the weekend. I admit I initially wasn't sure how the price range was higher than expected given that he worked from his home (I'm a student again so I'm more price sensitive than I used to be). But I found out that the value comes from the knowledge of hair, the professionalism, and the fact the hair comes out looking healthy. I had not seen my hair looking so healthy in a while. I made a Yelp account just to review this amazing salon and Jonathon! Before seeing Jon my hair was breaking off every other month, I was frying my natural 4a texture straight through constant heat styling, and I honestly was just a hot mess who had no idea how to maintain my natural hair. Since last year -with Jon's help- my hair went from barely on my shoulders to bra-strap length (at least 3-4.5 inches), with no damage to my natural curl pattern! I've been to most salons specializing in natural African-American hair in Chicago but hadn't encountered a hairstylist that could lay my edges while giving me a modern look. Jonathan not only REALLY CARES about your hair health but listens to styling tips, if you're not happy with your look he isn't either! I cannot say enough good things about this man! I went to Jonathan for the first time on a whim for a drastic color change: blonde to plum. He texted me and let me know he was working from his apartment that day (which I'm fine with) about an hour prior to the appointment I had made that day. Once I got there, it quickly began to feel like I was just hanging out with a friend, watching Law and Order (which was on the entire time); he's so charming and has great stories. He did a phenomenal job with both the color and the trim I (desperately) needed; I was completely obsessed. The appointment did run about an hour longer than Styleseat had indicated when I booked, but the quality was well worth the wait. One word - AMAZING!!! Jonathan has been very good to me over the past couple of years. He is the only one in Chicago that has been able to give me exactly what I've asked for. Today, I came to Jonathan for my last visit...I am recently engaged and relocating to San Francisco. I needed to get a relaxer and hair cut because I am not sure what awaits me in the Bay Area. I absolutely agree with the previous yelpers from 2010... finding a professional hair stylist that knows both hair and customer service is hard to come by in the City of Chicago. Jonathon blows me away everytime! He is kind, personable, and gives wonderful tips for maintaining your hair. Last week I went to Jonathon for a hair coloring appointment. I told him I wanted the same hair color as "Oprah". He researched her hair color and absolutely surprised me. He hit it dead on! It's dark brown, with hints of gold and red when it reflects off the light. I absolutely LOVE my new hair color and get compliments on it everyday. I too have natural hair and everytime I leave, my hair is always soft, silky, and flowing. He uses Morrocan oil, which does wonders on my hair. When I leave, my boyfriend always comments on how good my hair looks... and smells! By all means fellow yelpers, you will not be dissapointed! I have been going to Jonathan for about a year now and I have yet to be disappointed. He uses great products on my hair and he takes the time to explain how I can keep my hair looking great in between visits. The fact that he can take me in the down town area is great too. I don't have to deal with waiting in a salon all day long. I can make a later appointment. Going to someone's home for services is a little bit different, however, I felt right at home. There are no words to describe how GIFTED this stylist is. When I found him via Craigslist three years ago, my hair was damaged from years of bad bleaching and color. It was unhealthy and needed a magician. From the very first time I arrived at Jonathan's, I felt at ease with allowing him to do whatever was necessary to bring my hair back to life. He fixed the color and over the years has repaired the damage. My hair has never been healthier or looked better. He's done everything from bleaching, flat-ironing (weekly), and now to extensions. Jonathan is the best, it's just that simple. I came to Jonathan in a state of hair crisis six months ago after getting a really bad and expensive weave installed at another Chicago-area salon with it's own TV show. The weave I received from the other salon was quite an embarrassment for me, because of how poorly it was done, plus it was uncomfortable to wear. Jonathan fixed all that. He took the hair out and we started over again, this time with perfect results. I've been going to Jonathan consistently ever since. Jonathan is easy to work with, professional, and skilled at what he does.
