I drove to the store which wasted my time and gas! I was told they are accepting anything and so I drove there 35mins with the stuff worth more than $3000 or even more that's a steal.. But I was willing to let it go and most of my stuff is still tagged and some were never worn ,2 hours later they texted me to come back in..so I went there and was they said they weren't interested in any of the items that I have!!! I brought 4 huge bags full of clothes and you can't find anything? I know what I've brought into your store and the value of my stuff but this is ridiculous!!! Are you kidding me? I was a bit lost for a second after they told me and I looked at my stuff like... Are you serious? Then I turned around, and looked around at the store and I see nothing but junk! I even told one shopper.. "You're about to pay for that jacket in your hand?" I have so many in my bags! So I grabbed one nice jacket and gave it to her for free! You ain't got to pay for it! And that jacket is still brand new! You can have it!!! Keep your money!! Then another 3 shoppers came by and looked thru my bags and they were shocked too! And I gave another pretty dress for another shopper..still brand new you can keep it too! It's free! I didn't expect to get a lot of returns. I'll just take whatever they give me but for them they didn't even look at my stuff... There's no way you didn't find anything in these 4 huge bags???? And I believe they didn't even look thru the bags, Unbelievable!!!! And who is the one in charge of deciding what they take in and don't? Compared to the one in st Clair shores this one is amazing and has such better Quality clothes. The staff is polite and helpful. And the return policy is better here too. You have 7 days after the date of purchase to return for method of payment. At the st Clair shores location this is not true. I bought a jacket for my brother that didn't fit and came back the next day to return it and come to find out I wasn't able to, only store credit was given. So if your buying for someone else I would highly suggest this location. Better overall atmosphere read more

I came in with a bin full of Forever 21 clothing (probably around 30 or so pieces) that I haven't worn in a few years, they purchased 12 pieces from me for $28! Not bad for clothes I haven't worn in a long time! Employees were extremely friendly and helpful :) read more

I have had nothing but good experiences when ever I've gone to either platos closet or style encore in shelby. The staff is really nice and the prices are crazy good!! You never know what your going to fine when you go there. Their clearance sale are even better!! Whether you're buying or selling clothes it's a fun place to shop! read more

This store is TRASH!!! I supplied them with a good mix of items from Nike, Lacoste, polo, and other top brands. All of my items were worn no more then two/ three times. They took NON of my items, when I browsed the store they had similar items in WORSE condition. Also the staff was not very friendly and the store had a poor smell. I would suggest selling your clothing on eBay or Poshmark. Don't waste your time getting lowballed! read more

I've really, really wanted to find something that fit my style in this store, but my experiences there were pretty disappointing. It's hard to find clothing there that looks decent and hasn't been faded by repeated washes, and then you need to do a closer inspection to make sure there aren't any defects with them as well. It took me a while to find some tops that I liked, but when I got home, one of the tops had a hole in them! On the plus side, the workers here are really friendly and helpful. Returning the damaged shirt was a breeze. If you really don't mind spending time to find clothing of good quality there, this is your store. read more

Favorite location of Plato's Closet for one reason: the staff! I am always treated well here. Sometimes they are busy but that's to be expected! Great finds frequently. I am a fan of the $1 section! Never had a bad experience here. I was last in maybe three or four days ago and there was an awful altercation where a customer was using profanities and causing a scene but the employees kept their cool way better than I would have. I have been to this location three or four times. I usually bring in a big garbage bag full of clothes, most of them name brand and in great condition. They usually will buy a couple of things, for 2 or 3 dollars a piece. I understand that when you're selling used clothes you can't expect to make what you paid for it, but when you're selling practically brand new name brand clothes, you'd think you could make a little more than 2 dollars a piece. My last visit, I once again brought big garbage bag of clothes and I put in a lot of winter clothes since it's the middle of December. I saw the guy grab my bag, and usually they take awhile looking through your clothes, but he called me up after maybe 5 minutes and said they couldn't take any of my clothes. I was shocked because I knew I had a lot of really good clothes in there. Definitely going to be finding a new clothing resale shop. read more

This place is far too overpriced and not worth the trip. My teenaged daughter really wanted to shop here for cool clothes but the prices are higher than retail. We went to the Salvation Army store down the street and found the same clothes for less than half the price. The employees are uppity and too busy socializing. read more

If you haven't been to this Platos in a while, give it another chance. This store is totally different now! Maybe no one is yelping about it because everyone who knows wants to keep all the awesome stuff they have a secret. The people were so not snotty or rude in any way. They were very helpful. They had everything I was looking for. Everything looked like brand new and was sooo organized. I seriously have never seen a resale shop so organized. They don't have Paige like a lot of the other stores do or any rate vintage finds. No Tory Burch. But I guess I shouldn't expect that for teen wear. If you've been punishing yourself with the John R store sifting through tons of worn, crappy shoes and the high end denim on the racks that is thrown everywhere and mixed in with the other denim where you have to look all over and the worn out shirts, run to Lakeside and have a great time! I found the miss me jeans I have not been able to find anywhere, even Macy's in exactly my size! No strong cinnamon smell like John R either. read more

Brought in a bag of clothes to sell. The girl was very nice & let me know it was a 35 minute wait. And that you had to wait IN the store. Almost like a ploy to get you to walk around & hopefully spend the money you're trying to make. Clothes are give & take. Found a few with snags & missing buttons. If they want you to wait in the store they should have somewhere for you to actually wait. Instead everyone is sitting on the extremely uncomfortable window ledges. Not really ideal for making you wait in the store for them to go through your bag. read more

I've been here several times, but this last experience is the worst. Came in to sell a large bag of clothing, all name brand and in perfect condition. They told me I now am required to wait in the store, so I began to look around even though I did not plan on buying anything as I'm pretty much broke right now. I wear a size large, sometimes extra large depending on what it is and the item. I could NOT believe the mass quantities of clothing in size small and extra small. There were mediums, but not many. I think in all of the sections I looked through combined I found only a couple of items in a large. I don't know if this is a new thing they've put in place or just the way things have sold or what, but I was extremely disappointed, that even if I had wanted to buy something I wouldn't have been able to. When they called me when they were done looking through my items. FOUR out of a huge bag of name brand, perfect condition items, like I said. I look over and the size zero next to me that came in with a bag half my size sold twice as much. Sure, maybe her clothes were just super awesome, but clearly they need some more items in my size so they'd better rethink things. Its unfortunate that you have to give any stars because if I could give it zero stars, I would. I just went there today and it was a very disappointing experience. The girls working were wrapped up in their personal conversations and also were not friendly at all. I filled out a slip of paper and she said she needed to see my ID so I handed it to her. She then walked away not taking my paper that had my personal information on it, not giving me any further instructions, not telling me she was done with my ID and she just started doing other things. I had to ASK her if she was done. I cannot explain how terrible the customer service was there today.This place is a complete rip off. They offered me 8 dollars for an unworn practically brand new columbia coat. Also, 2 dollars for brand new Lauren Conrad clothing. I will never go back to this place again. Always complaining, swearing loudly, being very rude every single time, talking about costumers when they are RIGHT THERE. If you hate your job that much then QUIT!! I've worked a retail job so I know some days are hard but this past time was the last straw and I have to leave a review! I found out this girl is NOT even in fact a manager like SHE had told me on previous visits! Im relieved but come on! So unprofessional, I will probably not be back for that girl alone! All four times I've been to this location she is in the worst mood I've ever seen and needs major attitude adjustments! So I came in here yesterday with my friend and horrible customer service we were not greeted when we came in, the store was really messy and there was only 3 people working and two were behind the counter doing nothing. We looked around and tried on like one thing each, didn't end up buying them. We were also by the counter where the two workers were looking at all the stuff they had up there and yet nobody has said one word to us like "you finding everything ok?" i will never come back here. every time i've been there they've only taken a few things out of big bags of clothes. half of the stuff i haven't even worn or don't fit in anymore so i figured that i would take some back to get some extra cash.. well that's not the case at this platos. there was a guy there that looked at my clothes (barely) and i waited 45 minutes for him to do something that took five minutes.. they call my name and i walk over there and he says "unfortunately we were only able to accept these items" and sets my work shoes on the counter. MY WORK SHOES. i'm a server and have had those shoes for over three months.. he's obviously not that bright if he thought i was actually trying to sell my work clothes/shoes which were in separate bags‍and if those are the clothes they're accepting but not my clothes that are clean and in good condition then i don't even want to shop here. figure it out platos. read more

I would never recommend going here to sell your items after a terrible and shady experience I had there today. My husband filed for divorce and deserted me and our four children to "start a new life" and advised me to throw away all of his belongings. Since he had put it in text and it was not verbal, I was told that I could legally get rid of his things since he had given me permission. I was advised of this store by a friend who said I could sell the items instead of throwing them away or putting them in goodwill. Being completely broke and unable to even pay my bills to keep the lights on for my kids right now, I called and explained my situation to a girl named Felicia. She advised me that it was fine to bring the items in. When I did bring them in (4 extremely heavy garbage bags full along with my 1 year old) I mentioned my situation to the girl there (Tricia) and told her that Felicia had told me to bring in the items. She called the owner of the store and said she had to refuse my items because I could not provide proof that I had the authority to sell the items. When she was helping me take my items back outside she advised me to try another Plato's Closet because they are all individually owned and even gave me some locations and said I could go try to sell them there and they needed items. I took her advice and went to the St Clair shores location since I did not want to have to unload everything and go back out again. I drove all the way there and once again unloaded all of my bags with my fussy baby and was met by a girl who rudely told me that Tricia from the Utica store had called her to advise her that I might come there and not to buy my items from me!! When I called Tricia to complain, she said "well I told you that you could TRY." She also said I should have something stating that he said I can sell the items. Ummmm do you want pictures of the texts he sent telling me to toss everything?? Which I had and showed the other girl. What a shady, underhanded person. How could you give someone locations to go to, tell them to go there, and then hop on the phone and tell the other places to refuse them?! Who does that?? The proper way of conducting business would have been to tell me that in good faith, she would have to advise the other locations of my situation, instead of telling me to go there and waste my time and gas, when she all along planned to call and make sure I got turned away!! I am furious and plan to call and speak to the owner because that is shady and bad business. I wasted hours out of my day and wasted gas when money is scarce and I am struggling to survive with my kids. What a dirty way to deal with people.
