He took the time to get everything dialed in just right, and you can tell he really cares about making sure people have a great time out on the mountain. One of the employees here is extremely rude. I was talking with another staff member when a man across the shop suddenly yelled, "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard." Completely unprofessional and unnecessary. I later noticed several reviews mentioning a rude employee -- now I know exactly who they were talking about. To be fair, the other two employees working that day were polite (though one came across a bit condescending), but this one person's behavior completely ruins the experience. If you want to avoid an obnoxious interaction that can ruin your day, you're better off going to another shop. read more

I came here to purchase my first ever set of snowboarding gear as a complete beginner. Goreo (sorry if I'm butchering the spelling here) was extremely helpful and walked me through every step with patience and expertise (including some very helpful tips around best ways to tighten my boots). He also didn't try to upsell me on more advanced stuff than I'd need and stuck to beginner to intermediate tier gear, and even after I said I needed some time to think about the purchase and come back, he made no attempt to pressure me to make a purchase on the spot. Everything was reasonably priced (basically the same price as if you bought it online via Evo or a similar retailer) and you get knowledgeable and friendly advice without needing an appointment. Selection was a bit sparse though, mainly because I came during September and all they had was leftovers of last season's gear (but also why it was discounted!) read more

this is a long review but i have a lot to say! tldr: play it again sports drilled holes into new skis without checking if the brakes would fit and lied to me multiple times! i brought in a pair of skis with bindings on them and a pair of new skis. i asked the guy to move the skis from my old pair to the new skis. i got a call the next day, during which i was told that the brakes were too narrow for the new skis but holes were already drilled into the skis. i asked if they would be able to bend the brakes and they said they weren't able to with this type of binding (which makes sense). i then asked if they normally check to make sure that a binding is fully compatible with a ski before drilling holes into a ski. the guy on the other end was already a little curt but after this question, he became extremely rude and combative. he immediately responded saying 'this isn't our fault. you can't blame us. it's not possible to check brake width'. i responded and said 'i wasn't casting blame or accusing - i just need to know for future reference when i want to move my bindings again. but i do feel like it is possible to check brake width before drilling holes into the ski.' then, the guy said 'mounting skis is very complicated and it has a lot of parts and you wouldn't understand. it's not possible to make sure that the ski is compatible with the brake.' and i responded 'i feel like it is possible to measure the brake width or just hold the ski between the ski brakes to make sure the skis fit properly. it's a check that would take a second but feels really important.' he kept saying things that weren't factually correct and eventually i just wished him a good day and ended the call. i know i maintained a nice and respectful tone throughout the call but the guy was very rude, condescending, and mean. then, i talked to a friend who has worked at a ski shop out in a ski town, and he said that this should have never happened. checking brake width is extremely simple - you just put the bindings on the ski with the brakes down... if the brakes won't fit, the bindings literally won't lay flat on the ski. i also called around to other ski shops in the area and they also said that the brakes were part of the routine check done before bindings are mounted onto the ski. the next day, i went into the store and talked to the store manager. he was nice enough during our conversation. i asked him about the checks they do before mounting bindings. he said that they just eyeball the brakes before mounting the bindings (personally, i'm not sure if anything should be eyeballed when it comes to mounting skis) and that it's not possible to know if brakes will fit the bindings for sure. the entire time, it definitely felt like he kept trying to end our conversation and get me out the door. when i brought up that i had called other ski shops and they confirmed that they checked brake width before filling holes, he said that they just forgot to check... which directly contradicts his claim that it's impossible to check. he said that they were doing a rush job on my skis since i needed them back quickly, which isn't true. i dropped them off on monday and said that i would love to pick them up on friday. there was no mention of a rush and that is basically 5 days, which should be more than enough time since it is the end of ski season. the store manager made up this lie about rushing my skis and then lied about not being able to check brake width. also, even though they made a mistake, they never apologized or offered to refund me. instead, they lied to me multiple times to cover up their actions and tried to convince me that they were right. the mount wasn't cheap either - it was $70. read more

Dont rent snowboards from these guys..!! Rented 2 boards and boots for me and my son.. Store clerk was very sketchy about explaining the 2 day rental when it was due and what time they needed to be in by.. Got up on the mountain and ankle bindings were crap, kept slipping and popping out as soon as it got really cold out, ended the trip early to return them.. Clerk could careless about the danger or safety issues.. Tried get a refund for my 2nd day and was told that it was per-use and since I used them to night ski and day ski I had gotten 2 days use out of them.. Even though I returned them a full day early by noon as their policy stated.. Really sucked and made the experience very negative.. It's been a while since i've needed to purchase some snowboarding gear, like... close to 10 years a while. When I finally made the decision that it was time, I did a ton of research and luckily Play it Again was just around the corner, so I figured I'd bite the bullet and stop after work. Within 15 minutes I had been shown the best sizing for my body type, figured out the best combination to save some money, had the bindings installed and the board waxed. Play it Again employees has the knowledge to answer any question I had all the while making sure I didn't feel like a complete idiot for asking them. I'll need to return to pick up a few key pieces to my setup but once I hit the mountains this winter, I'll revisit to talk about the gear the sold me! read more

The best customer service!! Employees are very knowledgeable on their products. Went in as a beginner snowboarder looking for a used board. They explained the different styles of boards and what would be best for a beginner to use. I asked a million questions and they had no problem happily answering all of them. You can tell the employees love snow sports which makes them an amazing resource. I tried out a few places before Play It Again, but I didn't get nearly as much attention as I did here. Not cool! Like the other negative review, this is a price issue. But in my case, I had already test rode the bike and agreed to pay a certain price (on the Play it Again price tag). Dude offered to tune up the bike and so I left and came back (a waste of my time)....upon return his "boss" was there and they informed me that the bike had been priced too low before. Uhhhhhhh what. Why did it have the original price on it in the first place? I guess I should have paid right away before they could change the price. I did not buy the bike. They did apologize and I mean, it's not a huge deal but I left with a scumbag feeling about this place and the sense that I need to warn other people :/ read more

We have gone here each year in October to sell our used ski gear and get the next size up for the kids. Always accommodating and helpful in finding what fits the kids, as I don't ski and have needed the advice. They went the extra mile last night--we had forgotten to pick up the skis and boots this year after waxing and adjusting (ordered mid-October, it's now late November) and my son was scheduled to go skiing at 6:30 am today. I took a chance and called their store at 8:30 pm after they closed at 7 pm, and they answered--surprise!--they were just closing up after a long day and a snow boarding class. They said they'd wait for me the 15 minutes it would take to get down there to get the skis. Yes, I was lucky, because they were generous beyond what is typical these days. Thank you! Much better experience than REI down the street which is a bit crowded, expensive, and I didn't feel taken care of. There are almost no sporting goods stores within the main city limits of Seattle. I'm not sure why though since we boast many outdoor fields of various activities. PIAS can get you by if you're not looking for a big box retailer, which requires you to go well outside the city. The parking here is probably less than ideal, but then again, what you doing driving in the city? Take a bus or ride a bike like the rest of us. Every once in a while, I'll find a good deal here, but this is one of those places I've ended up going whenever I'm in the area. This is not the reason that you go downtown at all, but if you're there, you can be surprised by a deal here and there. The team here is pretty helpful, so it is a good thing this is essentially the only shop in town for any goods. Seems more people get value out of the non-traditional sports here, but you can still get just about anything depending on the somewhat random inventory they get in the store. Will be back again just to see what there is, but I'm not making a bee line here. read more

If you're looking to make top dollar on whatever your used item is, you'd probably do better to take it to CL or ebay. In my case, my daughter outgrew her snowboard and I wanted to offload it without dealing with the annoyance that is CL, etc. I actually called first to see if it was something they were interested. They were very upfront over the phone and said it's very dependent on their stock when I come in, what kind of condition the item is in, etc. They offered me $70 trade in and I used it towards my new board I am super excited about. A board taking up space in my garage gets a new life, I get a new board -$70, and everyone wins. YAY! Also-- I had great chats with both who I assumed was the owner and a couple of the other store folks about snow, conditions, various resorts, and so forth. Can't say enough great things about Play It Again Seattle and specifically one of the guys who helped me there - Matt. I had a great experience buying my bike there. I was looking for a hybrid or a road bike and needed to test drive a few different options and sizes; Play it Again had a few for me to try and I narrowed it quickly down to one. Matt was really helpful is explaining the pros/cons of each bike. His advice was unbiased and spot on. I ended up buying my favorite one the next day and I couldn't be happier with the bike itself as well as the high quality of customer service I received from Matt and his colleague who helped install all my accessories in the bike shop. Perception is not always reality. In the past, I had perceived this place as maybe a step above a thrift store. Not true. A lot of the stuff is new, some only gently used. The inventory is high quality. Even more impressive is the staff. Adam at this location was particularly helpful as we picked out two kayaks and a bicycle. Low key, yet super informative and helpful, we walked away after making a purchase that we were truly happy about. Buying a bike from this place may cause severe injuries. The following occurred while riding my brand new (never used) bike on the road: - 2nd time I rode the bike the front wheel fell off - 3rd time I rode the bike the pedal fell off - 10th time I rode the bike the chain popped off when switching gears, sending me over the handlebars and resulting in a significant concussion, major shoulder bruising, AC joint separation, and abrasions covering my entire arm, as well as my hip, knee, and both hands. My helmet cracked from the impact - The mechanic broke the shifter while fixing the bike and admitted the bike was installed improperly and never received a final check I would recommend never buying a bike from this store if you value your health/life. After the incident, the store owner gave me a full cash refund for my bike, which I appreciated given all that I was put through. I used that refund on an MRI for my shoulder. Also- when I bought the bike, I asked the store worker to final check the bike to make sure it's fine before I buy it, and he said, "It's brand new it'll be fine" and so he did not check it. read more

I have bought a few little things here over the years and I got to say they always have an annoyed tone when speaking to me. I try to not ask too many questions and do my research before I go in, but every time it's like you're bothering them just to walk in the door. This last time in the guy working Made Real Clear that's exactly what was happening. The guy working has a dog running around the shop which is cool, wish I could take my dog with me to work. I wasn't at work so I did have my dog with me. I walk in and the guy says "Whoa whoa whoa back up let me put up my dog". So I backup and pull my dog closer to my side and stand at the threshold. He quickly walked between me and his dog and then kind of just stands there because I guess I was supposed to back all the way out the store and close the door. Keep in mind these are both pretty small dogs. He eventually bent down and picks up his dog. At which point with his dog in his hand I walked into the store, and he says in a rude tone "or do whatever you want". I assumed once the dog was in his hands it was secured enough that it wasn't going to be out of control, my bad. But I thought forget it I already found the item I was looking for online but I prefer to give my money to local shops first. I can comfortably check this place off a list places I should even bother trying. On top of that despite the fact that their small space seems over stuff they don't have much of a selection. So it wasn't even likely they had what I was looking for. Which was just a small tire pump with a gauge on it. Even if you are nearby there are better places with better selection and better staff very close to this location. read more

Today I went into the Stewart Street PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS in Seattle to see about selling my used tennis rackets. When I first arrived I was told by a friendly young lady working there that the "buyer" was at lunch and wouldn't be back for 30 minutes. So I left the store to run another errand and returned 30 minutes later. The buyer/manager was back from lunch by then and the same lady let him know I was there to show him my rackets. He looked over and saw me sitting there waiting. He was stocking merchandise at the time. After seeing me, he returned to stocking the shelf. After about 2 minutes when he was finished stocking the bike socks or whatever, he came over to me and coldly said: "you have some rackets, lets see what you got". From the beginning, he seemed annoyed to have to deal with me. After showing him the rackets, he stated that he could give me no more than $30 per racket (2 barely used 2012 Babolat Pure drive rackets, retail for $200 each). I thought that was a low ball offer so I politely said "ok, I'm not interested at that price." Then he said nothing more to me and walked away as if I wasn't worth his time. I politely said "thanks for your help" on my way out of the store in disbelief of how rudely I'd been treated by this guy during our entire 5 minute interaction. He made no attempt to work with me on the price, he offered me no greeting, he offered me no thanks for my time, he was flat out RUDE. He was the rudest employee person I've dealt with in a very long time. I'll never be back. read more

THE BEST PLACE TO BUY YOUR FIRST BIKE! I went to REI, I went to Greg's Recycled Cycles, I went all over town. The guy at Play It Again Sports was super friendly, unassuming, explained everything, volunteered information to help make me feel less stupid about bikes, and even let me test drive the bike. At REI, I waited 45 minutes to be helped and the guy rushed through everything, at Greg's, everyone was too busy to even help me get a helmet down, and I felt so out of place. Play It Again Sport, sold me a new bike, gave me bike info, and is even going to tighten my brakes in 6 months. Best for newbies!!!! read more

After paying $4 for parking across the street, I walked into the store with a piece of exercise equipment in-hand. After all, according to their (store-specific) web site, they'd accept this kind of hardware. Not that day, apparently. The store is extremely limited on space, and I was refused by the manager without him (or her?) ever laying eyes on the piece. So, instead of selling the near-perfect-condition gear, I wound up losing money in the adventure. Lesson learned. If you're planning on selling something, sell it to someone else. I can be a tough customer: analytical, specific on price, clueless about snowboarding equipment, and I needed a full set. And I came in about 40 min. before close. #thatguy. Everything Adam did was 5 stars. If he could coach me through life, I would become the successful person we all hear visionary speeches about at high school graduations. KIND INTRO: After missing my bus stop, I walked back, and entered the door with that dumbfounded look that says, "Look, I'm dumbfounded." Adam greeted me with a question and smile. ALL PRICING DETAILS: I needed a board, bindings, boots, gloves, goggles, and helmet. And good prices for good quality. And Everclear. But one step at a time. After a few questions for each item. Piece by piece, after a few questions, Adam gave me specific recommendations tailored to me, with options for going a step lower or higher, with honest opinions based off experiences with his own equipment. QUALITY CUSTOMER CARE: He coached me through all the little details of tying laces (he had to untie my first attempt...I heart knots), the advantages of a short and long boards, let me hobble around the store with boots still tending to me personally when he had another customer. Plus he measured both my feet. Did you know one foot is usually shorter than another? Left foot, that would be you. Who knew! ADVICE FOR LONG TERM VALUE: He showed me where exactly to center my boot in the bindings, how to adjust the straps, screwed in my bindings showing me tips for making changes, suggestions I didn't know to ask for about my glasses case, helmet flair, and gave advice for later longer-term purchases I'd asked about after I beat up this used equipment first. He told me about different slopes here and differences with other regions in the US. He also shared Wednesday waxes are free. He walked me to the door in gentlemanly fashion. Thank you very much. The one out of the four outter lace system didnt but all the other laces do and its fully functional boarding. This shiz retails for $150.. "Play It Again Sports" A better name for this fine establishment would be along the lines of "Exceptionally Convenient and Awesome Place with An Amazing Staff" I've been here 4.20 times to rent skis, and every time I've been 420% satisfied. With awesome prices and lightning fast service, there's no better place to rent equipment for a weekend trip up to the slopes. There's also a wide potpourri of other sports equipment in this magical place as well. Just from the short amount of time I've spent inside here, I've seen baseballs, bikes, other balls of the tennis, golf, and foot variety, and many, many other sports stuff. They have the most hilarious snowboard benches which are both hella functional and dapper af. 10/10 need to cop some snowboards so I can construct equally as dope benches. The staff is equally as charming as they are knowledgable. If I recall correctly, Adam and Jeff (pls forgive me if I heard the names wrong) were the two guys I remember interacting with all the time and they really are a dynamic duo! PIAS will certainly be seeing me again in the future, and I HIGHLY recommend you come here for any of your sports equipment needs! read more

I haven't owned a bike for over 10 years and I wanted one that was comfortable and good for commuting to and from work, which meant it had to be good for hills. Briana (or Breana?) helped me pick out a bike and she was very helpful and patient in explaining what adjustment did what. After test riding 3 bikes, I really liked one in particular but it wasn't as comfortable for my wrists and upper arms, it felt as if I was in a half way push up position and that of course is very tiring. She asked her co worker (forgot his name) and after he saw my position on it, he adjusted the seat and it was much better! The customer service in this store is awesome. They're very friendly and don't mind making adjustments here and there for you. I had a great experience here and would go back for sure! read more
