We stopped in on our way to go bowling and got the mermaid bowl with mixed base of the coconut and the pitaya. It was delicious! Everyone there was very nice and helpful with answering any questions I had. I wanted to try two of the bases for variety, and I was not disappointed. The coconut is lightly sweet and creamy and the pitaya tastes like dragonfruit so it's fruity and a bit tart. They mix well together and the toppings just accentuate the flavors. We tried the elderberry shot and I did NOT expect that it was spicy because I didn't notice it had cayenne. It was tart with a spicy aftertaste. So far i've been here twice, got to try the Nutella and Pura Vida, which are the acai based bowls, as well as the Mermaid Juice. i think this is a much better alternative to ice cream or something too sugary like that. The staff is pretty nice and quick. The vibes are like fast casual, grab and go, or grab and chill for a bit. Parking is getting weird here, so i would go ahead and just park at the parking deck to be safe. Hello there, I'm an older lady and a bit hard of hearing, but I had such a lovely time at Playa Bowls. The food was very tasty, and every bowl looked and tasted just right. I really liked how the shop was decorated like a beach--it felt so cheerful and fun. The young lady at the cash register, Nicole, was just wonderful. The servers were friendly & offered to answer any questions I had. The decor gives an island feel. FOOD: I ordered the Electric Mermaid, which seemed to be popular. It has a load of fruit. Everything tasted fresh. I enjoyed trying to get a little of each thing in one bite. The mangos & pineapple were the perfect addition for natural sweetness. The size was also enough for two. A little pricey for what it is, but definitely worth it in my opinion. My go to is the Nutella Açaí bowl with half açaí base and half chia pudding base. I find the açaí base to be too sweet and not filling enough so pairing it with chia pudding creates the perfect balance if you do not mind the look/texture. Very generous with the amount of toppings. I've never received a bowl that wasn't overflowing. Really good smoothies too although expensive compared to some smoothie companies, but I can't go here and not get my açaí bowl so I rarely order smoothies here. I've been to Playa Bowls a few times for yelp events at different locations and they never disappoint. This location is in the Halcyon. Paid parking right out front or park for free in the garage if the weather is okay! Service has always been fast and friendly. Super beachy vibes inside and a huge menu of bowls and smoothies. Strawberry and banana base, cocoa nibs, coconut flakes, granola, nutella and white chocolate drizzle, and fresh strawberries. It is dreamy, y'all. I kinda already want another! The one thing I'll say is if you get something with a drizzle on top and get it to go, you will lose all the topping when they put the lid on. I would suggest either asking to bury the topping or eat some before you put the top on. I didn't want to waste a lick of those drizzles so even though I was taking it to go I got it without the lid and ate enough in my car before we left to put the top on leaving the Nutella and white chocolate unscathed. The overall presentation was the equivalent of a slightly tipsy Picasso. Almost there, but not it. The overall taste is honestly pretty good. Not too much chocolate that would clash with the fruity açaí. Some of the açaí brought the arctic regions of Bulgaria to my taste buds- freezing them to go into a cryogenic state. The taste was sweet but not too sweet- quite the good balance actually. The service is what you would expect- vsco girls taking your order and looking at you judgingly from behind the counter while talking to eachother instead of focusing on your order. 2/5 stars- for decent service and what you would expect for taste.
