Sometimes this place was ok. And it was great during weekdays and I could bring my toddler there. Staff were helpful sometimes. But it's chaos, for both children and adults. This is not a place for A-typical kids. We experienced an incident. My youngest had his 5th birthday party here. Another family barged in to our party room and tried to start a bar fight, accusing my oldest (7) of hitting their child. It turns out that their son provoked my oldest and physically tried to cut in front of him on the slide. My son is on the Autism spectrum and he flails his arms, but he is gentle and does not intentionally hit anyone. I found out later in the week that the mother grabbed my son by the collar of his shirt as he was about to go down the slide. And they said AWFUL things about my child to his face. Management offered me a free glass of wine after I had ordered one already. I wish they called security and kicked out the other family out. My 7 year old said "I don't want to go back." Amazing! First: If you are not coming here with a child then this place will not be good for you. But if you are coming with a child this place will be GREAT for you!!! Warning: dress cool because it is hot in here and on top of all the climbing you will be doing you will thank me later. Came here on a Wednesday night. There was just one other family there and they left 20 minutes or so after we got there so we has the place to ourself for the 2 hours we were there. Whoop whoop!!! So that being said the staff was still trying to figure everything out and I hope that will get worked out before their grand opening. But the play area is HUGE! My son is 17 months with zero fear and was climbing and wanting to do all the slides himself. They have a fun ball room but I can see it being very dangerous for little kids when it's busy. There is a toddler section but if you have a kid like mine they won't last long in there. There was a fun interactive floor area that they could play video type games with either stomping or kicking. We ordered food and I was surprised by the selection compared to other play cafes. We had the hummus plate which was huge! And also tried the buffalo and the batt paninis and they were both very tasty. They do serve beer and wine which will be nice when my son is older and I don't need to crawl/climb in the space with him. Like most family/kid activities I'll be avoiding it on weekend and holidays but at $5 during the week and $7 on the weekends for my kid to play and free wifi I think we will spend a lot of rainy Seattle days here. We had frequently came to this place in the past 3 years. Their service was okay although sometimes it was not so good as expected. We understand people sometimes have mood. But today, we decided not to come back any more due to two of the staff's rudeness and dishonesty. She was very rude to my daughter who was climbing on a bar and then made a big deal about how my punch card expires after my daughter turns 4. I'm a little hesitant about the location - but I'm excited to see PlayDate PDX expand up here, it's something we don't have at all! The general concept is a kid-focused space that provides quality food and beverage for parents, as well. If you've been to most kid-focused spaces, you know that the food offerings are sub-par and far from healthy. These guys attempt to fix that. PlayDate PDX doesn't have any of that terrible coffee that frequently features in places where parents are supposed to be grabbing a cup while the kids play. The pricing on entry is incredibly reasonable, it's comparable to what you'd pay for a hour of playtime during SGA's open gym time or Sandbox Sport's sandbox time. Very fun for both kids and adults, we had kids as young as 7 months and old as 5 and everyone in our party raved about how much fun they had . My main issue was the price of food (again)... The pizza here is good, but not great and for 20-25.00 a pie (for large) the price of a party package room can definitely add up. We paid close to 500.00 for 8 kids (although we could have invited 10 for the room) 6 pizzas, 2 chicken wing platters and 2 drinks...I don't know I just have mixed thoughts about this place... It's a super fun place so I'd say if you have the money go... But if you're frugal like me I'd rather go elsewhere that allows outside food and is just as much fun... All in all I can't hate on this place so I'm giving them a 4/5. read more

Great indoor play area for the little ones, especially when the weather outside isn't preferable. The directions take you to a preschool but this is right next door. Large dining/sitting area. I agree that I wish the play area was a bit bigger. Although, I really like how the play area can accommodate adults to play with their children. My daughter loved their little area with the interactive gaming ground. We didn't try their food. But my husband enjoyed his beer. My biggest concern (and resin for the 3 stars and not 4) was that I wish their entrance was more secured. I think that balls are the number thing the kids love to play with going to play area. They have this area where you can launch soft stress balls at each other as if it was war. My son loved it. But it's a safety hazard depending how tough your little one or anyone's lil ones can take a hit. There is an area for infants only. Which I enjoyed but I wish they had a mini size ball pit. Because the infant/toddlers were drawn to the ball section and seemed to get sad and grouchy when balls started to fly and they couldn't join in The maze and structure is awesome. But many places are hard to see your kid and even get to them if they need help. I just yelled for my son lol I'm sure if you needed help a worker would be glad to assist you. They keep the place wipes down and also thr bathroom was on point. I always carry lysol spray, clorox wipes and also anything the bacterial wipes related. It's easy enough to disinfect areas to use considering the number of ppl who use thr bathroom. But they were clean none the less. I witness an employee changing out thr trash, restocking soap dispensers and wiping thr floor down during 4hrs. They offer party rooms idk thr prices but call if you want info on it They offer beer :) and wine hehe Bring a lock u can lock ur stuff up in one of those lockers near the restroom. But I think everyone should have a ticket to drop off there belongings because it easily can be taken. Dangerous! Beware! Visit resulted in trip to ER. I hate to leave negative reviews, especially of places for kids to play inside - we need more of those in this area, but I have no choice after the treatment (or lack thereof) I received from the management after being injured and having to go to the emergency room. After being whacked in the head by a metal tube (don't worry, they've promised they're not going to fix it!) and bleeding all over the mat, traumatizing my kids and others, I spent the rest of the afternoon at the Swedish Hospital Emergency Room. We thought it would be fair for playdate to cover my hospital bill - we couldn't even get management to return our outreach attempts. Have no fear! As I was walking out bleeding I was given two coupons for free visits! I climbed around with the kids for most of the time and had fun too. The ball area was a little chaotic with kids shooting balls at each other. The balls are not super soft, so if you get hit by one (like my little one did), it's going to sting. There's a lot of construction going on around the area, so we parked at REI. Best deal in town, $2 for 3 hours of parking!!!! My kids are begging to go back again soon. It was pretty quiet when we went (weekday at 10am), but I"m guessing during peak hours it will be pretty crazy in there. read more

We so appreciate that a place like this exists nearby and visit several times a year when it's rainy and we need somewhere to meet others and let our kiddo burn off some energy, but if there was a competitor in the area, we would start going there and never look back. The play area is not well supervised (on several occasions, we have been hard pressed to find anyone even at the desk to pay for entrance!); the toddler area is dark and small and does not seem to be cleaned all that frequently; and every time we go, there are features in the big play structure that are not working (some of the air/ball guns, the digital floor games, etc). We appreciate that there is a healthy food option (we're looking at you, hummus and fruit plates), but the food is grossly overpriced and the quality does not match. We love the drink options for adults and, as our kids get older, the opportunity to sit at a table and work or socialize while they play. If there was better supervision (among other improvements listed above), we wouldn't mind the higher food prices - or the entrance fee. But, as it stands, the most frustrating thing is pricing. $21 for my newly minted 4 year-old to play for a day (which really means an hour or two because we still nap!) is too much and not in line with other similar activities in the Puget Sound region -- and I am not sure it's worth it to buy the pass with the other frustrations we feel - we usually come here for an hour or two on a sporadic, last-resort basis. At this new price, we are considering not coming here again. We would much rather make the drive to PlayHappy Cafe in Lynwood which is worlds better! A few particularly poor experiences -- Recently, we were not told about the punch card passes when we learned of the new 4 year-old pricing and there was no information about pricing where my husband paid for admission. The guy at the counter was not particularly helpful or kind and did not point it out when my husband asked more about admission prices. Additionally, several months ago, we were there for dinner with a couple groups of friends (when our kiddos were 3) on a Saturday night. We got there and were told we had a half hour to play before there was lazer tag for older kids and the whole structure was closed to our little guys. This was not advertised anywhere except one small sign we later saw on the play structure itself. Then they said they might not have it if the attendance was poor. Then, there were about 6 kids who registered and they did indeed have it and kicked a greater number than that off the play structure for the evening. Our boys were so sad and we were so frustrated! Additionally, we watched the person leading the lazer tag give an unimpassioned rules talk, exchange a few guns that were not working, and then proceed to sit back and not monitor the "game." Keep meaning to review this place, I LOVE it! I only wish it was closer to where we live as we would be here every week!!! Humongous okay area for the kids with only one exit in and out. They also have a smaller section for little ones (age 1-4 ish) although my three year old has loved playing in the big kid area since he was about two. They have a lot of yummy snacks, with plenty of healthy options. There's usually at least one or two beers on tap that I would like as well as a few wine choices. The place is meant for kids to have a blast but they take care of the parents too :-) both my older child (10) and the little one (3) have a blast here and are ready to conk out from exhaustion, which lets all admit it is the main goal of playgrounds !!! The air conditioning is nice in the summer, they seem to also keep the temperature right in the winter. There's plenty of seats many of which are very close to the play area so you can keep an eye on your little ones. It's not at all stressful if you come during the week, the weekends can be a little crazy though ;-) The staff is super friendly, they're all good with the kids and seem upbeat. parking in the area can be a bit of a challenge but over all - my daughter really enjoys this place. Its one of the bigger climbing areas we have been to but what I enjoy most is that adults can fit pretty easily inside as well without having to crouch completely over to fit. I'm about 5' 10" and 190 lbs and I can get in and out without too much struggles. This helps when chasing a toddler through the play ground. There's a real fun shooting/battle zone that my 3 year old had a blast at as well. The eating/partying area is very large - so when there's a few birthday parties going on, it can get rather hectic and crowded. They don't allow ANY outside food or drinks but luckily they do have a full kitchen inside that serves all sorts of foods and desserts which is nice. Prices are reasonable and food is pretty good as well. There were a couple of things that didn't work in there which bummed my kid out (laser show room) some of the cannons and the light up floor touch screen didn't work, but still a fun place to visit if you want to get out of the sun or the rain while downtown seattle. read more

Took my kids here for the first time a few days ago. They immediately started developing what kinda just looked like scrapes and scratches on their face. After a couple more days we found that they had been infected with impetigo! Got to spend most of my day waiting at a hospital getting them a cream cure. This place is so perfect for a play date meet up with other families as you can sit and have a beverage or some food while your kids play. A plus for me was that they have a separate section for toddlers no older than 3 as the bigger kids could get a bit too rowdy for the littles. Welcome to my nightmare. Screaming toddlers, most of whom look sticky to the touch. Parents chasing their kids around. Captive audiences. And... did I mention the kids? Someone pinch me and wake me up. But don't touch me without sanitizing first. Yikes! Honestly I have this weird hypocritical thing where I'll eat food from the sketchiest backwater street-stalls in dingy fourth-world countries, but get me around hundreds of of American kids in a confined space, and all of a sudden I care about germs. A lot. Not that this place seems very dirty. The staff does a lot of active cleaning. But any time there's a gathering of snotty noses and unwashed hands, I get squeamish. I can't let this general distaste for the seemingly massive quantities of toddler germs take away from what PlayDate SEA is. It's a place where kids can have a blast, and parents can feel safe about their kids. There are few sharp corners, no playground creepers in sight, and the staff is surprisingly friendly (for I'm sure how much bullshit they probably have to endure from self-centered parents on a daily basis). The space has a small food/drink bar (and yes they have beer and wine), a large seating area with view of the structure, and some party rooms with kid-sized tables (and an elevated pizza rack, so kids can't get their grubby hands on the pies before I have a chance to grab some 'za). What am I doing reviewing a place like this? I came here for a 3-year-old's birthday party. I stepped from the waking dream that is Seattle in to a little slice of my own personal hell. Since they opened, the food and service has gone way downhill. The play area is still great, but the last two or three times I've been there I've experienced problems. Like a sucker, I kept going back. No more. Today, on a busy but not busier than and other Sunday I've been, we waited an HOUR to get our food (a Reuben, some mini corndogs, and a grilled cheese sandwich). When I said something to the guy about the wait, I was met with a sarcastic, "I know, we suck." I did speak to the manager, and she was apologetic, but it didn't seem like she really meant it. We did get passes to return, but I'm honestly not sure we will. We definitely won't be ordering food there again (my sandwich was lukewarm, over dressed, and soggy), and since you can't bring in outside snacks I'm hesitant to go back. My suggestion to the owners: 1) You have too many items on the menu. Pick your five best sellers and eliminate everything else. It was quite the claim being that I am a paying customer, the party cost me about $400 for goodness sake. Anyway, they had us at the wrong room and moved us around. This is a great place to take the kiddos to let them burn off some energy while you read a book, catch up with a fellow parent, or get some work done on your laptop. despite what other reviewers have stated I found no problem with the freshness of the food. Crisp veggies were crisp, fruit was fresh and unoxidized. It's not organic, and with kid's snacks ranging as low as $1 for a sliced apple I don't see why people were complaining. I had a $9 hummus plate which came with feta, olives, cukes, hummus, and a lot of pita. It was filling and reasonable portions and remember, there's no tipping allowed so you are saving some money there (in reality only 5-10% since there is a 10% service charge in lieu of a tip). Still, I'm not sure what people are expecting. I'm just freaking happy I can take my kid to a place where he can eat veggies and dip, fresh fruit, run around and I can either get an upper (coffee) a downer (wine) and relax. Speaking of, my 3 year old loves it here. He's happy as a clam and will outlast the parking meter, which causes some problems. The play area is large enough for parents to go in with their children if they are concerned about being their littles being overrun by older kids (or their kid pummeling someone's tiny tot), so you have the option to do what's best for your family. The children have fun with themselves, although they have gotten hurt on a few occasions because there it little to staffing. When I have inquired about the safety factor, I was directed to a girl who said she was the "owner". She said that it wasn't very busy and that they don't need to have people over there on slow days. They always appear to be overwhelmed and understaffed. I have seen at least three different waves of employees since I have started coming. I wonder why they are unable to keep employees... The worst part was, was that they place was mostly full, with crazy lines at the registers. I also talked to other employees, casually, and they have said that the play area is continuously dirty and gets neglected, because they don't have enough people to clean it. Other draw backs on this place is that there is little to no parking. Not a huge deal, with it being in SLU, I expect as much, it just sucks for business. The food is overpriced. My child has a few allergies and I asked what kind of pizza crust they use. The lady at the counter said they use Freschetta pizza. You mean the kind I can buy at Safeway for $5.00? How can they justify selling it for $25.00? Also, the wifi is a joke. I asked it they had wifi and the guy said yes, pointed to a slip of paper and then walked away. I deduced the network name and password from the tiny slip of paper taped to the register and then still had difficulties getting in. I inquired again and the guy rolled his eyes and said it doesn't work sometimes. If you don't have reliable wifi, then don't advertise it. I will say that I will not be back. This experience had been a horrible one. Many things inside the play area were broken and I won't pay $10.00 for a broken facility. It was ridiculous. read more

We love this place. When my son was younger for the birthdays & play. Now that he's 9 it's awesome for the laser tag. Pricey but worth it

Really needed play-space just outside of downtown Seattle in South Lake Union. Tons of room for the big kids to play between the slides, climbing stuff, soft-ball shoot-at-each-other area (although someone always gets hit in the face). Small toddler area I wish had a few more options since I have two kids far apart in age. Love the big open eating area where you can keep an eye on the kids while enjoying some TV, grabbing a snack or even a meal (pizza, panninis, salads, fruit & cheese, plenty of kids' meals, etc). On this note, they have good, healthy food options and the food is actually not bad. They've even got beer and wine too - although I can imagine that devolving really quickly with parents arguing with each other over which kid hit first. The price for the punch cards are great - it's something like 40% cheaper to buy a card than it is to pay each time. I've only been a few times since it opened, but can totally imagine using this place on all those rainy weekends we have throughout the fall and winter. read more

This is exactly what Seattle needs! I took my daughter here on their grand opening to check it out and it was packed! I wasn't sure what age range this would be best for, but there is a smaller toddler area for those under 3, and a range of ages in the main play area. I saw many "older kids" around 8 or 10 having a great time. I was even tempted to climb around myself, except I forgot socks and it was quite warm inside, so I hung out right outside. I do wish there were a better way to see where your child is and what they are up to as there really isn't staff inside to supervise. Once my daughter went inside, she "disappeared" for the next 15 minutes and I was only able to catch glimpses of her as she ran by to make sure she was doing okay. I was pleasantly surprised by how big their cafe area is with plenty of tables and chairs. There are even flat screen TVs by the front for sports and other shows. I wish there were more sofas or benches right by the play area instead of tables as I didn't feel like taking up a cafe table since I didn't order any food. I checked out the menu, and was pleased by the options (both healthier and appealing to kids and adults) with reasonable prices. There were enough "meal" options, and not just snacks. There were two party rooms inside for birthday parties and other events. I don't recall if there was a sink inside the party rooms, but that would be handy for handwashing rather than sending groups of kids across the room to the restrooms. Parking is street parking for now, and plenty available in the surrounding blocks, although there is so much ongoing construction in this area, I don't think street parking will be easy to find when that is finished, and the traffic may be worse. Overall, a great concept. Similar to McDonald's Playland on steroids with much better food. The playspace also reminds me of the one at Family Fun Center in Tukwila. This is also an updated concept similar to the bouncy house places, but with the cafe and space for parents. I'm glad they decided to put this near downtown Seattle rather than the Eastside, although I suspect this will be very popular and I could imagine an equally great place like this in Bellevue someday. read more

I would absolutely recommend this place if you want to have a kids party. Really stress free and all you need to go is a cake. Food from the cafe is really good too. The party host really takes care of everything. She was amazing! I liked their submarine and octopus rooms better personally. read more

My very active 2 1/2 year old daughter and I love coming here on weekday mornings. I feel so lucky to have a schedule that allows this...I think coming on weekends might be absolute chaos. I probably wouldn't come on a Saturday just knowing what Friday mornings after 11 are like. That being said, there's really no issues with parking, I pack water cup for her, buy a fantastic Stumptown latte from the coffee bar and get to climbing! For those complaining about the cafe prices, you do realize they don't make any money by charging $5 per toddler for all day, right? They either raise the price of admission or up-charge the food. Be ok with it. Also - to you parents/nannies who drop your kids at the entrance and then "retire" to get some work done, check your emails, etc....No judging here, trust me. But check in from time to time, ok? Your child may want you to play with them! Put on your workout clothes and climb in! Also, your child might be a little a-hole. Not judging on that either. Some parents won't tolerate it and will correct your child for you, or, as I've seen, march him or her out to you for you to handle. Let's all have fun, ok? Pros: Diverse activities (climbing, sliding, balancing, crawling, dancing, etc.) as you navigate the gym area. Multiple play levels, accommodates a LOT of kids! Cleanliness Safe environment (padded structures, one entrance/exit, sturdy construction for adults to climb too) Great menu including a "dollar menu" of snack items (grapes, string cheese, etc.) Cons: Parking can get tight after 10ish on weekdays. Lighting is a bit dim in the back sections of the structure making it hard to see your child from the outside At times, some of the kids can get wild in there unsupervised. If you have a littler one, keep an eye out for rowdy/rougher players. read more
