This is a great place to take the kiddos to let them burn off some energy while you read a book, catch up with a fellow parent, or get some work done on your laptop. despite what other reviewers have stated I found no problem with the freshness of the food. Crisp veggies were crisp, fruit was fresh and unoxidized. It's not organic, and with kid's snacks ranging as low as $1 for a sliced apple I don't see why people were complaining. I had a $9 hummus plate which came with feta, olives, cukes, hummus, and a lot of pita. It was filling and reasonable portions and remember, there's no tipping allowed so you are saving some money there (in reality only 5-10% since there is a 10% service charge in lieu of a tip). Still, I'm not sure what people are expecting. I'm just freaking happy I can take my kid to a place where he can eat veggies and dip, fresh fruit, run around and I can either get an upper (coffee) a downer (wine) and relax. Speaking of, my 3 year old loves it here. He's happy as a clam and will outlast the parking meter, which causes some problems. The play area is large enough for parents to go in with their children if they are concerned about being their littles being overrun by older kids (or their kid pummeling someone's tiny tot), so you have the option to do what's best for your family. I had no problem finding an outlet for my laptop to keep the juice flowing. Membership/punchcard options exist for those who want to brave Lake Union on a regular basis. Avoid on busy days. I brought my 4 year old nephew here to play, which was a total fail because he was overwhelmed with the amount of kids and didn't step into the arena. Instead we sat and ate some pizza. When we were leaving, we were charged for time that he didn't play and on top of that, they mistook me for some other poor lady and charged her card. I don't even know how since our names are totally different, I'm supposing she was probably the only other asian? I only caught it when signing the final slip. I'm not all too sure if they refunded the money back because the cashier just stood around dumbfounded by his mistake. I just paid for mine and left. Overpriced and food takes forever to come out. Loved the concept but a few flaws, particularly if you have younger children. I went with my 3 and 1.5 year old. Luckily, I had my nanny with me otherwise it would been a nightmare to keep an eye out on both my kids. Pros: - Fun space, especially the ball cannon area. My 3 year didn't want to leave this area. - Great menu selection - Attentive staff. I actually saw one person walking around wiping the play structures. - Clean! Cons: - The toddler area is dark and kinda of blah. Most kids won't stay in there for long. - The layout, with the play structure on the back wall, makes it hard to keep an eye on your kids. Not a problem if you only have 1 kid or if your kids are a bit older but I have 2 young toddlers who kind of need watching out for and this makes it difficult. - Floor is slippery. It's a concrete floor. Socks are required at all times which makes it more slippery. I almost slipped and I saw at least 2 kids slip on the floor. - Parking. It's a pain and there is currently construction all around it so a lot of the street parking is closed off. This should improve over time... Maybe. Overall, great idea and definitely something that Seattle needs. Admission pricing is more than fair but a few items on the menu was pricey (I.e $22 pizza). read more

Decent sized indoor play structure. Clean, safe. It's newish, so everything is pretty nice. They've got a few LED TVs on the walls for football games & beer/wine in the cafe for parents. An adult's nightmare, a kid's paradise. I brought my 3.5-year old and he had a blast running around for about 3.5 hours (with a snack break). It took him about 20 minutes to get comfortable with the structure as it is a bit intimidating for a young child but as soon I walked around with him inside the structure (tight squeeze but yeah most adults can definitely fit ... I'm by no means a small guy) for a little bit he immediately acclimated and was off running around. A lot of other reviewers keep pointing out that they don't come here on weekends. Well, I was here on a Saturday afternoon and it certainly is crazy but whatever, this place is for kids, not parents. I think the loud noise and chaos actually add to the fun for the kids. Imagine a playground full of kids screaming versus a playground with just a handful of kids. Sure, kids can have fun even alone in a playground but it sure is more exciting with all that noise. The food prices are a bit high and the lines long but, as someone else pointed out, considering how cheap it is to get in ($7 for all day), the extra food cost is fine plus they don't seem to have problems with people bringing in their snacks so if you're really going to whine about the food prices then just pack your own lunch. PlayDate SEA has a humongous play structure with multiple levels. This obstacle course is tons of fun, allowing kiddos to explore and use big motor movements going up ramps, navigating through obstacles, and going down the thrilling slides. These slides are no joke -- they're incredibly fast and very fun for kids and adults alike. There is a small toddler room, geared at three y.o. and younger, with a calmer atmosphere. Small slide, lots of stackable blocks, fun wheelymabobs on the wall. Parking isn't great but it is very centrally located! The staff have been consistently kind and prompt to attend to restrooms and cleaning the play structures. The 9 am - 8 pm hours (as of 7/5/13) allow for early risers and kiddos that stay up later. They charge by the child, based on age, not by the hour. Given the quality for this open play, I think the pricing is very reasonable. Parents can order coffee, wine/beer, pizza, and more. They don't allow in outside food, which makes sense to me because they pay the bills operating as a play area and a cafe. While some might find this inconvenient, I think the huge seating area and free wifi are excellent options for parents. The playstructure is large and parents will need a certain amount of physical ability in order to accompany smaller kids through the structure. (Not to mention, appropriate clothes.) I take my children to Play date SEA once a week and have been coming the last month and a half. I have two kids under 3 and we come first thing in the morning on week days and have a blast. It has never been particularly crowded and most of the kids there are preschool age, so not big enough to trample my toddler. The best part about this is that the play structure is sturdy enough to hold me so I can be up in there with my toddler and crawler and there is enough space for me to maneuver. As they get bigger I won't need to be in there with them, but it's nice to know its big enough to hold an adult if I need to retrieve them. There's also a toddler area for kids under 3 that's nice. We go in there when the kids have sensory overload. I wouldn't take my kids here on a weekend when it's crowded and loaded with school-age kids, but it's the perfect spot to get some energy out when it's cold and rainy on a weekday. I've had the food and the dishes we like best are the pizza (seriously - not bad!) and the green bean fries. My least favorite are the pretzels and wraps. My only complaints are that there are no parking and no defined age policy. Street parking is rough and made worse by construction. One employee suggested parking at REI but I don't want to schlep my kids that far. Also, I wish they'd make a policy that kids under 1 are free, like at most play places and children's museums. Employees never know whether or not to charge me for my baby. But I bought passes and that's definitely the way to go. Overall, I love this place and think its brilliant. The kids always take long afternoon naps after a visit. The food is decent. Heck, even I love the slides. It's a win. read more

We have three kids, 9 years, 4 years, and almost 2 yrs. ALL of them had a BLAST. There is a smaller area for toddlers but our toddler didn't last long in there and wanted to play on the big part so daddy was with her assisting. But I won't be going to Playdate SEA unless I only have my older two. I don't really think it's a good spot for babies and toddlers. Seattle definitely needs this place. Parking is annoying, just driving around for off street or a lot. But Seattle peeps are probably used to it and expecting that. The food was good. I liked how they had meal options. They have a water spout so customers are able to get there water on there own with reusable cups. The kids will need it. They all come out sweating and red faced. The play area is similar to a McDonalds play space but WAY better and more interesting. The birthday rooms are nice and spacious with wonderful murals. This place is a little loud. They had a couple of tv's and music going. I personally think the tv's need to GO! It's already loud, NOBODY will be watching anything because we're trying to watch our kids which is something I think the place should encourage. The music was too loud. The place is echo-y so no need for all sorts of loudness on top of kids playing. Staff were attentive and helpful. I was a little confused on where to pay. I signed two wavers when I didn't need to. This place was packed on a Saturday before the Hawks playoff game. It was our first time in there. We've been to other indoor playgrounds for kids and this place was good but completely disorganized. Invest in a gate for the left side of the entrance to the play area and some wrist bands for the parents and kids. I could have easily sent my kids into play without paying but decided to be good. If you get anything to drink, eat, etc be prepared to take it up the you know what with an 15% extra surcharge. So two 16oz $4 Americanos was $10.12 after taxes and surcharge...WTF! read more

Wow! What a fun place for kids to play. Went to a birthday party at Playdate SEA for the first time today with my 5 year old son. He had a blast in every area of the play stucture. The EyePlay projector area was a big hit. I was very glad to see the employee that catered to our party was very helpful with allowing me to incorporate a Gluten free option since we live a GF lifestyle. The downside is the quality of food, very disappointing. Not worth the price i paid for my son's GF pizza, tasted like cardboard. Really, really bad. My friend ordered the fried green beans and they were super soggy. I hope they fix their menu, i would totally go back becuase my kid loves the play area. I love having the option of an indoor area for my toddling 14 month old. But the 0-3 kid area is seriously lacking. It's dark, and kind of boring other than the slide. Some mirrors or colorful lights would add a lot to this area. Another thing, I wouldn't come here for the food - it's seriously lacking. This is a much needed indoor play area for kids in the SLU area. As far as I can tell (based on my 6 1/2 years of parenting), it is also the largest in Seattle so far. This is not an arcade or pizza place, it has a maze of climbing structures & slides, as well as a ball room, pretty much perfect for busy bodies age 3-8. There is also a small toddler room, for kids under 3 with soft seating, blocks, wall toys & a few smaller slides. In addition to the play areas, there is a large open area with tables/chairs & a cafe to order food. Prices are reasonable & the food is decent. So far the space is clean & seems well run, I'm a skeptic however as I've seen every other local place close after a year or less. It's been moderately busy the few times I've been there, more so on the weekends. I'm sure as winter comes & the weather turns it'll be busier. A few tips: no outside food allowed & buy a punch card to save a few bucks if you think you'll visit regularly. read more

Came for niece's birthday party. I'm thinking sports bar for parents. Seahawks game was on, and the cavernous ceilings and concrete walls did not help with the acoustics, and it was loud. The pizza tasted off, and the place just seemed dingy and unkempt. Not a big fan of letting kids run in a play area where adults can just come in as long as they take their shoes off, and there's no clear line of sight to all the nooks and crannies (of said play area). First time visiting and my 8 yo played hard for three straight hours, only to take two breaks for hunger and thirst. I sat sipping a mocha, working on my laptop (free wifi), listening to fun music (didn't notice mentioned tv's) only needing to get up and check on him a few times. It wasn't that crowded on a Thursday afternoon and didn't feel at all worried about safety. The food was decent, but would probably plan timing better next time to not have to eat a full meal. We stayed for dinner, then headed home. If you have a toddler or child under 5, be prepared to head in the structure with them. I wouldn't feel comfortable letting a young one in solo, especially if it was any busier than it was this evening. I don't foresee us ever going on a weekend where it would be presumably way too busy and chaotic. We will go back, it's a great rainy afternoon place to burn off excess energy!! read more

Very affordable since we only had to pay for our child and not ourselves (though we had used the equipment just as much). We went right when it opened Saturday and it wasn't at all busy or crazy swarmed with kids even though there were 2 bday parties. Our 2 yr old had a blast on it and all the kids were nice and not at all bullies or pushy which at first made me not want to bring her here after reading some reviews. Most of the younger kids that needed help had at least a parent with them to help them out. Free wifi and a cafe for the convenience, talk about win win for parents to bring their child and burn off some energy. We left after just 2 hours and my kid who normally naps at 2pm ended up napping at 12:30 for 3 hours after a morning of fun here. read more

The idea of parents sitting back and relaxing is good, but we found that we really needed to keep a close eye on our 3 yo since the bigger kids were tearing through there quickly and were mostly supervised from afar. The cost per kid was reasonable ($8/kid for all day with in/out privileges) especially for such a clean indoor play space in rainy Seattle. My children were guests at a birthday party here this past weekend. The party was during their laser tag on Saturday night. There were sixteen kids at the party which was arranged weeks ago. There were another ten kids in another birthday party going on at the same time. And 10 kids in on general admission. So, 36 kids total. Only 14 laser tag guns (out of the 30 they have on site) were charged and in working order. For the party my kids were at, that meant that all 16 party goers couldn't play laser tag together. In addition, even after paying $20 x 16 kids, our party had to rotate in taking turns with another 20 kids who had also payed for "unlimited use" of the equipment. Since they don't allow kids in the structure during tag who don't have a laser gun, the kids could only play in the nerf area while they waited for turns at laser tag. And the way they got a turn was then to quickly "get in line" after each session. So if you weren't in that room waiting, say you were eating pizza or going to the bathroom... you didn't get a turn. The manager was RUDE and actually defended only having fourteen working guns, saying it's not their fault if the laser guns are broken. If they knew they only had fourteen working guns that night they shouldn't have sold any general admission tickets. Their loyalty should have been to accommodating the two parties who paid and reserved. She also accused my friend of lying, insisting that she would have been told that all the kids at the party couldn't play laser tag together when she booked the party. (She was not informed this and it's not in writing on their website or in a brochure). Though I have played here with my kids during open play and had a good experience, I would absolutely not recommend Play Date Seattle as a birthday party venue during their laser tag. It's ridiculous to charge $320 for 16 kids to share laser tag guns with 20 other kids. And that's just for the tag itself, not including the $5 per kid spent on pizza as well as appetizers and drinks. read more

I took the two boys I nanny here on a weekday afternoon. Perhaps because of the time of day, I was able to find street parking right up front and found the place only half full, which was nice. I was first struck by how friendly the staff were. It was our first time and the lady was very welcoming and explained how everything worked. The kids had a blast and also appreciated the free cups of cold water. I think it's great that the entry fee is good for the whole day, in case you need to leave, but want to return later. Although I didn't order anything, I was impressed to see that they had lots of options for meals, snacks and drinks, including espresso. Plus, they have free wifi, places to plug in a laptop if needed and TV, (I watched the USMNT in their first match while the kids played.) I also liked that parents/caregivers are allowed to go in the play area with the kids, free of charge. Just make sure you have socks ahead of time! read more

This is the best for kids from walker to adult too. It has lots of tunnel and sliders, dancing platform, quiet area, books for kids , lots of yummy food, dessert, adult's drink. There is no time limit. My daughter just forgets me whenever she got here, sometimes, me too. It's like kid's Dreamland. On every, they do puppets show(l'm not sure, but as far I remember it is free). We love love love it. Didn't I mention, it has a ball's shooter too! We had a birthday party there for our 3 year old and thought we purchased the birthday package but instead rented the room for two hours for $150. We paid for pizza package for kids and it came with two pitchers of drinks. We received 4 12 inch pizzas which was enough for the 13 kids and some parents. I added a salad, a chicken Caesar, and a fruit platter. The salad was great. The fruit platter...um no! It was sliced oranges, a small handful of grapes and blueberries. Some watermelon too but like they cut a small personal watermelon. It was $35! I actually asked for more fruit as I thought this was a ripoff and they gave me a kiwi cut up, one banana cut up and I think 2 strawberries quartered. I was floored and when I asked for more grapes, the manager looked upset and said no they weren't giving me more. Next time I will know better not to do the package. Kids had fun but they always do. Would have been cheaper to just order pizzas and salads from their normal menu. read more

We just tried this place for the first time, and it was a smash hit. Our son was fully engaged by the huge play structure/area and made a little friend his own age right away (he is 3.5). I noticed that they do very well in terms of avoiding disposable cups and other packaging. Kids' drinks are served in right-sized reusable cups with disposable lids & straws. Food is served on durable plastic plates. Yay! The staff is very friendly and the menu is extensive and yummy. I had a great Mediterranean Salad and I liked that carrots & hummus was an option for the kids' meal sides. We will have to come back to try the pizza with a beer or glass of wine. My only complain is that the menu board has no prices on it and the entrance fee is a bit steep if you don't buy a pass. But I like that it's cheaper on weekdays, and I guess it wasn't cheap to build all those tunnels and slides! read more

The kids have fun here, and there's been plenty of seating in the cafe area when I've been here. The big downside, though, is the pricing. Be prepared for a hefty bill, with a weird 15% "service fee" on top of everything. That means your 2 kids' admission plus a coffee could run you $50. When I asked the unhappy cashier about the mysterious service charge, her response was that it's so they can be paid minimum wage. If that's actually true, I'd much rather see all the prices raised. Happened to be in the city for their Monday evening free play from 5-8 and couldn't be more pleased with this lovely place. The food (gyro & fries) were surprisingly delicious! The fries did come out a little cold but they happily warmed them up for me. How wonderful to be able to enjoy a great selection of wine and beer while playing with our kids! The main attendant, a rather handsome bald man, couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant, and the woman who helped me with my cold fries was so kind and lovely. Perfect spot for toddlers, infants and parents. There is a full service cafe (with wine and beer) and a full menu of tasty treats for both adults and kids alike. A 3000 sq foot cafe with seating including a comfy sofa several tv's and free wifi. (Although its a little spotty today cause there are so many people here.) 4 floors of crawling, running and sliding all in an enclosed single entrance/exit space. Its even big enough to accomodate parents if you care to join your kids in the fun, which I'd recommend. Everything is totally sturdy (steel beams wrapped up in foam padding) so kids and parents can play without fear of much injury minus some rug burns. Tons to exlore, my fave is the ball pit with the two opposing turrets that allow you to launch balls at each another with gusto. Reminds me of snowball fights as a kid minus the snow. But you need to note that there is no one but you to observe your kids. You sign a waiver (expected, of course) but for the most part this place is pretty awesome. Personally I'm thinking I'd come back to Seattle just for this if I could justify the cost of the trip. read more

Not safe. One staff trying to coordinate 40 kids for laser tag. Lots of kids in tears, and other employees saying that the staff member was not well-suited for the job... but he was still the one working with the kids. On top of that, the laser tag equipment doesn't work well and consistently breaks down (this is what the staff member running laser tag told me). Manager acknowledged that they are massively short-staffed. My impression is that the owner cares more about cash flow than providing good, safe service. read more
