We went to Plaza Agave in Niles, Ohio for a celebratory dinner with friends who were marking their 10th wedding anniversary. The restaurant is located in a plaza, which made it easy to find and offered plenty of parking, definitely a plus. The evening started off a bit rocky, but things gradually improved as the night went on. We ordered a few appetizers for the table along with individual entrées, and overall, the food was enjoyable. I had the Texas Fajita, which came with both corn and flour tortillas, some of which tore a little too easily, but it wasn't a major issue. One suggestion I'd offer is that it's best practice to serve all meals at the same time; some of us received our food well before others, and that kind of timing can take away from the shared dining experience. On a more positive note, one of the servers (possibly the manager) brought over complimentary shots, which was a thoughtful and appreciated gesture. Plaza Agave is a good place to get delicious Mexican food. They are definitely a family friendly restaurant, but this place would also work for happy hour. The interior is fairly dated, but the food and drinks were great, especially the Mocajete and the chimichangas with beef. Plaza Agave is a passable stop for a Mexican food fix. I know a lot of people who love it, but it's not my favorite Mexican place. They are friendly and service is fast, but the food is kind of meh. The chips always seem stale and the fajitas aren't great. I have had fajitas in at least 100 different Mexican restaurants in my life, and they have all been pretty consistent regardless of location, but these are just okay. But they get 4 stars because there aren't that many reasonably priced restaurants in Bainbridge so I have to give them some credit... (although their prices are higher than other Mexican places in northeast Ohio). So stop in and have a great time, just don't expect the food to wow you or you will leave disappointed. read more

My friend who works there really hyped the place up when I told him I was gonna go try it. Obviously he's gonna hype it up because he works there but the yelp reviews were mostly good. Some bad reviews said there was stuff In there food and that it was sketchy. This is how my time there tonight went... First impressions when we arrived it looked like a typical Mexican restaurant, Adobe looking outside, candy machines, and Mexican decor. It wasn't too busy but it was a little late so I probably missed the rush. Big open area to stand and wait if it were to be busy. When you walk in its a big open area with booths and tabletops (of course) and in the back was another big room with a bar. We got sat in a corner which ultimately kind of made it so we didn't get the full experience but nothing to complain about. I recommend Mabey taking the corner seat out and put like the guac cart or Mabey a stand where runners can get chips. Food The two local Mexican restaurants near me kinda taste the same. Bland food and runny nasty salsa, but The food at Plaza Agave was like nothing I've ever had. To start, I tried Mexican coke for the first time and I it really wasn't t anything crazy. There was no phone in the bathroom and definitely no bullet holes. The bathroom is surprisingly very clean and well kept. THE WORST. The first year of visits to this place was great. It really made me love Mexican food more than ever before. Unfortunately, as things went on the shittier the experience got. I could forgive the other downfalls over this past year as I chalked them up to a busy night or just bad luck on my end. The green onion root ends... Overcooked and burnt tortillas... Order mix-ups... But this last visit really just sealed the deal on the fact that I WILL NEVER DINE HERE AGAIN. To preface this story: They implemented a new rule where every table only gets two baskets of tortilla chips. Any basket after that is an extra $3.25 or something. Okay, I can deal with that since I bet people were just sitting and eating the complimentary chips and salsa. My friend and I continue to order our queso dip and table side guacamole as an afternoon pick-me-up. The trouble started immediately when I was brought a cup of water with hair in it. Gross. Soon afterwards, the table side guacamole was delivered. IT WAS BROWN and unmixed and poorly chopped. Seriously, there was just a long piece of tomato skin, bruised and oxidized avocado, and bunches of cilantro. What the fuck. I complained and got a new water and a new guacamole. Also pertinent to the story: the new guacamole was not table side and very small. Per usual, the queso dip was fine however a very small serving. Every time I go they give you less and less... Fast forward to the bill. I already mentioned to the server the guac no longer should be charged as table side, and they did follow that. The bill should have been around $8 ($4 guac and $4 queso). However, they charged us for chips. OH NO YOU DIDN'T!! We only ate half of the first basket before it was whisked away and replaced with a second full basket. We followed your new policy, and were charged anyways. So, I complained and used their menu against them. The server (who was rude and pissy to me) said that since we didn't order pops or drinks that the chips cost money. I pointed out they can't charge me for what is so obviously complimentary, as the menu points out. He said the menu says this policy, I said WHERE. He couldn't point out this so called rule anywhere. I was starting to argue, and the server chose to diffuse the situation by rolling his eyes and giving me the bill I wanted. I ended up leaving a around a $1.50 tip, which now as I am writing this I am pissed and want back. Whatever. Point is... They have been struggling for awhile now. The quality worsens every visit. There are new policies in place. They will try and sneaky charge you for food that is suppose to be complimentary. The server will get salty with you the moment you complain. read more
