I've been to the former restaurant that used this building, which was Flip Side. It was soooo busy back then so I'm taken aback that it closed and got replaced by this trendy Mexican place. I met up with an old schoolmate I haven't seen in 20 years and we enjoyed ourselves but it mainly due to each other's company. The offerings were very...just okay. For a Mexican place, the prices were high and portions were very small. No free chips and salsa! We had to pay $4 for chips and salsa, plus $1 for refill for just the salsa. The shrimp tostado was great but so small for the price! We ordered the tres leches cake and the description said sponge cake drenched in cream and sauce...well, it came in a block of the driest brick of a cake and then scraped on the top with some thin milk sauce or something. I mentioned this to the waitress who brought us back a side of the whipped horchata topping (that was promised with this dessert) and it was good but pretty annoying that I had to ask for it...the cake was $8 which is the same price as a slice of Cheesecake Factory's cheesecake which not only is their value and portion more reasonable, but lives up to its promise of deliciousness as a dessert, unlike the tres leches cake. We did love the little elote fritters but man...6 tiny, less than mouthful servings did not justify its price. The decor was neat, clean, fun but not overly colorful or crazy. Our server was nice but not the most knowledgeable nor helpful. She was attentive with water and checking in with us though. I can't see myself coming back here unless someone else REALLY wants to go. Chagrin Falls has a lot of interesting places but does need a more casual but hip Asian fusion place. Hopefully, this will come to fruition one day. I'm still not over not getting to try Umami before it got converted to the bland, overpriced abomination that is The Reserve. read more

I visited Lopez on 4/19/2025, and it was subpar. It's very small inside but there are too many tables. Myself and my cousin sat near the window but had little elbow room because there were too many tables next to us. Even getting to the table was tight. The hostess sat a party of 6 next to us and we were pretty much playing musical chairs just to get in and out to use the restroom. The large party next to us was not pleased by how tight it was. The food was also very subpar, I had the queso as an appetizer and my cousin had the corn fritters. Both were very bland and basic. I then ordered the Mexican 75 because I explained to the waitress that I'm a French 75 person so she definitely recommended the Mexican 75. I was very underwhelmed by how watered down it was. I think ordered the beef tacos and I was very underwhelmed. There wasn't a flavor profile. Very bland and no flavor complexity... just basic and bland. Overall, I would recommend or go out of my way to try this place. I would recommend they take away two tables on the bottom half of the restaurant and increase the flavor profiles of their entrees. read more

We were so excited to try this new and restored restaurant based on the newspaper articles and hype. There were certainly some good highlights but also some misses. Starting with the small parking lot but they have free valet that is on it so no worries about the parking. Interior is small and quaint however it's surprisingly bright inside. We were expecting a darker, sexier feel so we're surprised at the bright ambiance. Tables mounted to the walls were cool so no wobbly tables or hitting of your shins. Definite plus! Hostess and busser were fast, kind, and helpful. Waitress was not... young, not helpful, and a slow on water refill. I have the cilantro soap gene and she couldn't tell me what didn't have it. Then what I ordered that she confirmed didn't have it, sure did...which annoys me. Received a recommendation about the scallop tostada which wouldn't normally be on my list but it was pretty good although the guac has a lot of cilantro. Lots of scallop and good flavors. Waitress did recommend the stuffed pepper to which it had a nice presentation and filling flavor for a veggie dish says my husband, also lots of cilantro. Got the smoky enchilada with chicken which the waitress recommended over cheese which was a miss for me. Good portion so not over stuffed but nothing special Mexican rice, Smokey nothing special refried beans, and boring enchiladas with more of a mole flavor instead of smoky spice. Needed the hot sauce! Chicken has very little flavor. Bourbon fizz drink tasted like no alcohol so wouldn't recommend but the rumrita was the highlight. It's sweet, spicy, sour, excellent. Should be in a short glass or ice strained out for the tall glass but flavor was great. We joked that we would be back for the rumrita and then order Chinese for pick up next door. We are interested in coming back to try the tacos so we will give it another shot. I just expected more and think they are capable. Better luck next time. read more

They put the meh in Mexican for me. They list their restaurant as an upscale Mexican, implying they took a cuisine that is already delicious and found ways to elevate it. For my palate, they rated well below on multiple levels from "standard" Mexican restaurants. My comparison: Chips and Salsa - "Standard" restaurants - good chips often served warm and flavorful salsa - refilled if requested at no extra cost. Lopez - good chips with a true corn flavor, however, they lacked salt and were served cold. The salsa had a too-thick texture and severely lacked flavor - I strongly doubt there were any peppers of any sort in the recipe, as there was NO heat at all. I had to request a salt shaker, as none was on the table, to add copious amounts to the salsa to make it palatable. There is a charge for your initial order and an added cost for salsa refills, which are necessary based on the meager initial serving. Enchiladas: Red Mole- "Standard" - warm complex flavors combined with well-seasoned filling, tortillas that hold their texture without being dry. Lopez - warm flavors but less complex, chicken filling was bland, and sesame seeds heavily sprinkled on top added to the already dry texture of the dish Other items: Caesar - This salad was a pleasant surprise - in no way would I categorize this as a Mexican dish, but the addition of the fried jalapenos was a nice flavor addition. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and the croutons were the perfect texture. Good dressing, but I would have liked having some fresh cracked pepper added to further elevate the flavor. Over all I do recommend this dish. Enchiladas Suiza: Not a dish I have had at other restaurants, but it sounded good. I, personally, prefer cheese enchiladas, and when I requested that, I was told "we can't do that, they are already prerolled". Right there, they lost the chance to bring me back as a guest, telling me you can't modify a menu item because everything is made in advance... That being said, I chose the veggie filling. I barely ate any of this dish. The sauce was described as a creamy verde sauce, the veggies consisted of onion and peppers, which were chopped in very large pieces and were challenging to cut and eat. The overserving of sauce led to the tortillas being saturated and practically dissolving. This dish had a messy, unpleasant texture, and the flavor I can best describe as "off". The server took over 10 minutes to initially introduce herself and take our drink orders. We waited another long period before she inquired if we were interested in appetizers. She remained absent, then finally took our main dish orders. She didn't clear the used dishes from the small 2-person table in a timely manner, which led to a very crowded feeling throughout our time there. After our mains were delivered, she never checked on our experience. We finally caught her eye and asked for our check, which I paid using the QR code, as she didn't offer to process payment for us. My 3-star rating above feels overly generous, to be honest, as I have zero intention of ever visiting this establishment again. I will happily take their ideas to add jalapenos to my Caesar salads at home and avoid everything else here that was nothing short of subpar. Side note: some panels to help absorb sound would go a long way, every word had to be practically yelled to be heard over the overly crowded small space. My recommendation to prospective diners, there is FAR better Mexican food to be found in the general area and other establishments in this beautiful town to wow your palate. My recommendation to the owners/operators, if you wish to continue to advertise yourself as upscale, you need to raise the bar. Bring more flavor, hire more attentive staff, and be ready to allow small adjustments to menu items. Remember that people have dietary restrictions, yet the only one you make a nod to on your menu is gluten-free. True upscale restaurants have chefs on hand ready to help diners with different needs and requests, to ensure a great experience. Premade food that can't be modified is not upscale; that is, fast food served in a slightly upscale dining room. read more

Okay, I really, really wanted this to be outstanding... but my biggest pet peeve is LETTUCE! Come on, save the bagged lettuce for Applebees. MAKE ME A FRESH SALAD! That's all I ask, well!? Server was nice and attentive. Food was not great. The guac was tasteless to point we had to salt it to make it edible. My wife ordered soup and it arrived barely warm. The server took it off the bill, which was the right thing to do. Soup lacked flavor. My ground beef street tacos were lacking flavor as well and the meat had large chunks, almost like mini meatballs. Was difficult to eat without the tortilla ripping apart. The waiter was slow, several menu items were unavailable, and the acoustics were the worst. Could not hear, was extraordinary loud. My ears were actually ringing for several hours after we left. Food is good-ish. They've already changed the menu and now there's nothing on the menu that I like. The rest of my party was underwhelmed by their dishes. The worst part was our server. First off, all of the staff were very kind and friendly. However, the food was all so tasteless. The queso tasted like condensed milk and was super bland. The scallop tostada recommended by our server was ok, but not particularly tasty. The food had barely any taste. Cocktails were mediocre but not great. Our party of 6 on a Thursday evening enjoyed our dinner at Lopez. The waitress was able to answer all our questions and we received our food and drinks in a timely manner. Other patrons were dressed very nicely. But we didn't feel way out of place in our more casual clothes. The salmon on my Caesar salad was great. Others enjoyed their spicy pineapple margarita and Pozole verde soup. Valet parking was a breeze. It's free, but don't forget to tip. All staff was very friendly and my personal meal was very good. However there were numerous things that made our experience here very lack luster. We had made a reservation days before but when we arrived they didn't have our name and didn't seem to understand what we were talking about. To the point that we thought we may have called the wrong place. A server over heard our convo with the host? and admitted that she had taken our reservation but it was never documented or put in the system? I don't know The patio is literally 10 feet from a large dumpster in clear view of where we were seated. On top of that, the lid was wide open causing an odor to waft over. It smelled bad. That's just poor attention to detail in my opinion. I understand there's nothing you can do about the dumpster but really no one could at least walk over and close the lid? Or close off the opening of the patio that exposes the dumpster? Our server was very friendly and answered all of our questions. However not a single (not exaggerating) dirty glass or dirty plate was removed from our table the whole time we were there. We sat with dirty glasses and plates in front of us the whole time. Lastly. My friends purchased 4 margaritas (2 for each of them). Not all at once. When the bill came it showed that 4 margaritas was $60. Pricey? Yes, you'll have that these days. Here's the thing that baffles us. A PITCHER of margaritas was $15 on the happy hour menu. So why would ONE single margarita be the same price? Just doesn't make sense. I will say my personal meal was very good and everyone else enjoyed there's as well. My friend's chicken was very charred and dry however. It's the small things that make or break a restaurant and I hope they can make those adjustments because everyone was very friendly just not very aware. read more

Made our first visit this week and can't wait to return. Margaritas were great. Fire Roasted Salsa was fresh, vibrant with just enough heat. Entrees had great eye appeal and better yet they were hot and fresh. Baked Mexican hot chocolate was indulgent and super tasty. We had amazing service. I know it's only been open for a short time. I ordered the Black Bean Soup, which looked and tasted like they opened a can of black beans, emptied it into a bowl, heated it up a little (it was lukewarm), and put a bit of pico on top. Bland and lukewarm. Not good, not good at all. The Scallop Tostada, on the other hand, was beautifully presented and delicious. Ambiance? It's a very small space with nothing anywhere to absorb sound, and got very noisy. My dining partner and I had to raise our voices to hear each other over the noise. James took excellent care of us and our food was delicious and prepared timely. The whole staff was courteous and had great vibes.

The food was good & came out quickly. I had a great fruit platter that was generous and well-priced as an app, and chicken enchiladas, which were delicious. Their homemade habanero hot sauce is both truly hot and flavorful. The chips and salsa are tasty. The cocktails and beer selection are good, as was the service. This was my second time here after their opening late last year and I was impressed both times. Will be back! read more

Lopez has the most imaginative menu, incredible food and very generous portions! It is located in very warm and cozy space which is why you must make a reservation! My favorite spot is sitting at the bar( also needs a reservation!) My husband and I have been to Lopez two Fridays in a row, and we'll be there again this Friday! The Mexican Salad is enough for two and they will divide the potions. Absolutely, this is a must. You are started with a basket of homemade chips and a homemade salsa. There is a trio of salsas available as well as an appetizer! My husband ordered the steak tacos that is a signature dish and cooked perfectly to your specification. I was really looking forward to this place. The setting is great - really upscale and modern. It is quite loud; so, if youre hard of hearing, it may be difficult for you. We ordered the guac, flautas and the ribeye. The guac tastes pre-made from a bag. There was zero flavor - no cilantro, acid or salt. The chips are the same as concession stand nacho chips. Flautas were pretty good, no complaints. The ribeye was so undercooked that we could not eat it. I love a rare steak, but it was cold in the center. The accompaniments of potatoes and onions were flavorful. Drinks were fine. The service was fine. Not good not bad. Overall, disappointing and overpriced for the quality. I wouldn't mind paying for quality, but it's just not there. Skip this place if you're looking for good food over atmosphere. Overall, I am disappointed with our experience. We made reservations for two to sit in the bar area early today through open table and received confirmation for our 6:45 pm reservation. We arrived right on time, valet parked, and had to wait for a hostess to help us. When the hostess finally arrived, she quickly found our reservation and said there are no seats and that they were not supposed to be taking reservations (looks like they had a halloween party). She said we would need to wait 1.25 hours for a seat! I asked to speak with a manager and the hostess did nothing, she was timid and clueless and pretty much ignored my request. After driving 40 minutes to have dinner, we were disgusted and left having to find an alternative on a Saturday night. If they had an issue with open table allowing people to schedule reservations when they had no intention of honoring, they should have had the decency to call everyone who had confirmed reservations to explain the situation and offer an apology. This is not the way for a service industry owner/manager to treat a customer. We won't go back... read more

Visited Lopez tonight. We had reservations but no one seemed to know about it. We were seated on the patio, squeezed 9 people in a small table. The patio could definitely use some TLC! There was a dumpster right behind us partially blocked by a fence, but you could still see it and smell it! The food was pretty good but way overpriced. A margarita was 15.00, and a pitcher was 15.00. Does that make sense to anyone? wWe asked about it and got no real explanation. We enjoyed Lopez when in was in Cleveland Heights and were looking forward to it opening in Chagrin Falls. Service was poor and unfriendly. We sat at the bar. The bartender was borderline rude, definitely not polite or attentive. She had to serve a total four people so can't excuse her behavior with being overwhelmed. She clearly prioritized chatting with her colleagues over refilling our water glasses. The food was ok, not worth coming back for. Long time restaurant industry worker and I was extremely impressed with my experience here. Had cocktails & a coursed meal and everything was spot on. I had the Scallop tostada and the Carne Asada. Delicious! The service was immaculate . We didn't have a reservation and we sat at the bar while waiting for table and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Drinks were strong and tasty. The Host who sat us was very considerate and professional. Will be going back this weekend if we can get a table. Amazing place first time I went I ordered the salmon was so good. The second time I ordered the red snapper was amazing I haven't had snapper that good since being on vacation in Mexico. If you love red snapper you have to go served authentic style and don't be afraid to dig right in and use your fingers you wont regret it. read more
