Taco (Crispy Or Soft) & Enchilada plate
    Anthony R.

Stopped by during our recent visit to Seattle. I had been here years ago and decided to give it another try. It was just as good as I remembered it to be. The bar area is fully equipped with multiple TVs. This was a sneaky good place to watch sports. They had great content management with all important college football and baseball games on the TVs. We got the crispy taco and cheese enchilada plate and al pastor tacos. It came with so much food we didn't come close to finishing it all. It was all very good and fresh. Make sure to ask for their homemade salsa which they had bottled behind the bar.

Went for Friday night dinner and have done takeouts before. The place is in a very good location and near climate pledge arena. The interior gives a lot of Mexican vibes and they were decorating for cinco de mayo. I ordered enchiladas rancheros with Al pastor meat. That was not on the menu but they added it and charged extra for the selection(2$). The food was average and not much flavorful. They also offer chips. The service was fine we did not have to wait a lot to get seated.

Food: 4 stars Service: 4 stars Customer Service: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars Parking: you have to pay, there is a small lot in side of the restaurant. 0-2 hours $4.50. However, we came on a Friday. Inside made me feel like I am in an authentic Mexican restaurant. I loved it. We came here yesterday, our first time. Another recommendation from a local. It fit as we love Mexican food. They have a lunch menu which ends at 3:00 pm and ee arrive at 2:45 pm perfect. It was not busy, so we were in and out quickly.. Our server was attentive to our needs. Our order: I ordered the two crispy chicken tacos with refried beans. My partner ordered a crispy beef taco with a enchilada and whole beans. The food came out fast. You get complimentary chips which were warm and good. I really liked the salsa. My Tacos were filled with chicken and they were good. However, when ordering crispy Tacos, I wish they would put them on a separate plate because my Tacos were soggy and feel apart, but they were still good. My partner said his food was good, but they also put the crispy taco on his plate and it was soggy. He ordered whole beans and they brought refried and made the correction quickly. I would come back whenever I am in town. It's nice to know a lunch menu and price is still honored with prices on everything are on a rise.

    Carne Asada

My review is based solely on pick-up. I ordered the Carne Asada, which cost around $30 and included complimentary chips and tortillas. The portion size was generous and quite filling. I really enjoyed the beans and the seasoning on the carne, but I wasn't a fan of the rice or how chewy the meat was. It's possible the texture was affected by it being a pick-up order, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Overall, it was a decent experience, and if I find myself craving Carne Asada again, I might consider ordering it.

Very good family owned Mexican restaurant that is close to downtown Seattle. The nachos are particulary yummy and the tacos are great.

It really sucks that I have to write this review because I love their food so much. I place an order @ 4:45pm and set it for pick up at 5:50. I get there and it's busy, there is nobody present, and I had to wait for a waiter to spot me in order to tell them I have a pickup order. I tell them the name for the order and they told me they don't have it and that it must've been picked up for delivery. This doesn't make any sense because I placed an order for pickup, not delivery. I show them three different kinds of proof of purchase with my name, date, and the order with the restaurants address and everything. They told me they don't have it. I ask if they can make it cause I already paid and they told me I would have to wait as they have a long list of people that need to be sat for dinner. Look, I've worked in so many restaurants. I know what it's like to forget someone's order or to screw up like this especially when it's busy butThis is not the type of situation to be saying "you have to wait another hour for your food that you placed almost two hours ago." You send in that order on the fly and you make it for the customer who has been waiting much longer than any of the folks that arrived after to be sat for dinner. Yeah they made me wait for almost an hour. Folks around me were gossiping about the lack of organization this restaurant has and it made perfect sense. Once again I hate to be writing this but y'all lost a regular customer. Absolutely horrendous customer service. Delicious food but PLEASE do something about this. Thank god I got my money back At least.

We had a great visit - fajitas, tacos, burritos were all delicious. The drink selection is extensive, although we opted for margaritas and beer. The service was friendly and quick, although we were there on a night without a game nearby. There are lots of tables and a nice bar area, so I'd imagine even if it were busy, you could get in relatively quickly.

Came here as we were in the area for an event at Climate Pledge Arena. No happy hour on Sundays. Tried some ceviche, some nachos, some flautas, taco salad, chile relleno, and some drinks. We liked everything that we had. The service was good. The ambiance was relaxed. Bar area can get a little cramped. All in all, it was a decent place--not the best, but was convenient at the time.

    Diana C.

I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately the review is predominantly based on the food. The service was fine and the inside was comfortable and colorful with plenty of TVs if you want to watch the game. But the food was really underwhelming. The nachos tasted more like store-bought ingredients and I didn't finish them. My partner wasn't a fan of his fajitas either and felt they lacked flavor. The mango marg he had was fine but the jalapeño marg I had was too sweet and flavorless and wasn't spicy enough. We wouldn't go back probably but the food does come out fast if you're looking for that.

Mojitos and complimentary Chips And Salsa
    Kim-Nhi N.

My wife and I came for dinner and were quickly seated. We snacked on the complimentary chips and salsa while we waited to order. Service was quick and the food was filling and delicious! I ordered the carne asada and my wife got the beef fajitas. We enjoyed minty fresh mojitos with our meal. The beef fajitas had a little bit of kick, which we really liked but might not be for spice-and-seasoning-sensitive folks. The restaurant was very spacious and was not too loud or quiet. Good value for your buck! Ended up leaving with leftovers!

Although it's naturally very fatty, the flavor and juiciness was retained after cooking - so they didn't screw it up. The salsa verde was a very nice accompaniment, as it tasted light, fresh, and a good complement to the fat of the meat. The mole enchiladas were less good. The mole sauce used leaned way too heavily on a sweet flavor - having little to no nuttiness whatsoever. It didn't taste anywhere close to some of the best moles I've had. The enchilada underneath was fine - nothing special. Both dishes came with beans and rice. Both were slightly above average, but nothing to write home about. I would say the portions were well sized in terms of overall amount, but the enchiladas were quite small compared to the beans and rice. With these two dishes we ended up around 28 per person. Overall, it's average Mexican food. 6.5/10

I'm usually a fan of a smaller, curated menu because it suggests care in sourcing and execution. But for us, the execution just didn't land. Everything is served family-style, but the portion sizes didn't justify the price point. We started with the sourdough and butter spread, and it was a letdown right away. The bread was hard as a rock, and the butter--while sounding interesting--came slightly burnt and didn't feel worth $11 for two pieces. Next was the albacore tuna tostada. As someone who travels to Mexico City often, I was genuinely excited for this. But it leaned heavily on avocado, with barely any tuna to balance it out. For $25 and only two tostadas, it felt pretty stingy. The rapini quesadilla sounded promising but ended up tasting mostly like broccolini and mushrooms--nothing that really stood out or justified the dish. We finished with the 21-day dry-aged steak, which, at $59, felt like it should've been a highlight. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. It came out essentially raw, which I didn't mind in theory, but it was incredibly chewy and lacked flavor. It was difficult to cut and even harder to enjoy. The tortillas were nice, and the demi-glaze had potential, but overall it just didn't come together. Even the refried beans on the side were underwhelming--something you could easily find done better at a casual spot. On the bright side, the mezcal margarita with a tajín rim was excellent--well-balanced and probably the highlight of the night. And the service was warm and attentive, which I appreciated. But overall, for the prices and the hype, this place just didn't do it for me. Maybe we ordered wrong, but I've had much better elsewhere. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be back.

So many of our regular spots had lines out the door, which was no surprise, but we ended up getting a table here. Figured Mexican food is hard to mess up. Started with drinks- THE BEST MARGARITA I HAVE EVER HAD. It was perfectly balanced, fresh, just perfect to me. My fiance got a horchata and loved it too. They have an option where you can try ALL of their dips for $20, which I couldn't resist. It was so fun, they had like 9 different ones! I got the shrimp tacos and they were so flavorful that I almost gasped. The creamy sauce, crunchy veggie toppers, smooth avocado, and perfectly cooked shrimp...just wow. I will be dreaming about this dish for years to come. I am a pescatarian and gluten free and there were TONS of options for me. They mostly use corn for everything, not flour. The staff was gracious and kind. They seemed a little understaffed but truly made the most of it and made every table feel attended to and special, which was so lovely. Before it seemed like Maiz Molino was focusing on elevated, unique Mexican dishes (shown in the pics in my prior review such as short rib, and other sort of "fusion" dishes, and more seafood focused, etc.) Now, the menu seems way more generic and casual like enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, tamales, etc. just offered w/ different proteins. They are still focusing on maiz but just a bit more generic in the preparation and offerings. Also, they had 2 separate menus which was a bit confusing. One is a generic all day menu and then another menu had brunch and dinner on it. It was around 5:30 p.m. but they were out of a particular steak dish that we were interested in. Service was friendly. We had enchiladas, a dip sampler (for appetizer) and Tlacoyos. Everything was fine but nothing really stood out, sadly. It wasn't very busy while we were there, so hoping that they are doing ok as a business. I would love to come back if they brought back the old menu w/ things that you cannot really find elsewhere, including the great cocktail menu and desserts that were offered previously.

Andrew (our server) introduced us to his sidekick, who was in training. Love that personal, hands on approach for a mew team member, and Sidekick did a great job in monitoring our table and replenishing water. Have to stop here and express my appreciation for Andrew and how he took the time to explain the philosophy and genuine team vibe of the restaurant. Oftentimes when a restaurant adds a flat 20% gratuity, you get the feeling this is not passed on to the servers. Not so here. He explained that it's shared among the servers, bar, and other staff, with only a bit retained by management, but even that finds its way into their wages. Terrific work environment and happy to see it. It definitely shows in the level of service. But we're here to eat. Didn't take a picture, but one of my dining companions ordered the burrito with red chili sauce and it was very good. Just the right amount of heat in the sauce. The Cantina celebrates Taco Tuesday, so I took advantage of this. You get the opportunity to try 5 different street tacos for the low price of $15. For another $4 you order it fully loaded which is a steal (guac, pickled onions, lettuce, giardano, crema, and another lovely sauce). Each of the tacos were really delicious and packed full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower and the beef. Was surprised how much I liked the popcorn chicken - still juicy and not greasy in the least. Andrew treated us to a round of the hatch green chili. I was delighted because it was a dish I wanted to try. He described it perfectly: a little kick, but you can't stop eating it. He was right. A bowl of this in the winter with their cornbread (which I'm confident will be delicious) will preempt a winter cold. The sauces on the table are not to be ignored either. The green chili sauce was fruity with a little heat, the scorpion chili brings the heat, but their homemade chili oil is phenomenal. I could put this on everything. In short, the Cantina delivers. Excellent food, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and fun staff, and a cool vibe. I'll bet the cocktails will also be good. Definitely adding to the regular rotation!
