Jimmy, the owner is a great guy. He's extremely honest! I read the previous reviews and have a hard time believing the bad ones. The bad reviewers are the ones that sound dishonest to me. Jimmy is a straight up, no nonsense type of guy. Maybe they didn't like that, I find it refreshing personally. I've been using Jimmy's shop for about 5 years now with all four of my vehicles. My car didn't wanna start but I didn't necessarily want to take it to the dealership cause, as everybody knows, they charge you arm and leg for any service. So, I started researching for positively reviewed auto repair shops near my area. And so I came across Pleasanton Auto Repair. I called ahead to see if I would need to make any appointment, and the guy who helped me (his name was Jim) was pretty nice and he told me to come anytime. So I came around noon/my lunch break hour. The guy was friendly and was upfront when asked about the pricing, which I really appreciated. Many other shops would try not to be so upfront about their fees but only to reveal a high cost at the end, but not Pleasanton Auto Repair. And what Jim did was helpful because then I was able to better budget for this service. So after his inspection, it turned out that my car battery was a goner and he said for my car the cost of a new battery was $142, and the cost of the service was $70 per half an hour. I was happy with how clear Jim was with me about his rates, so there was no hidden fees or anything! And I think his rate was reasonable. Then, I dropped my car off, gave him my cell #, went home and did my thing. And within an hour he called me to give me an update (thank you!) so I didn't have to be left hanging wondering how his progress was. Then, within another hour he called me to tell me the car was ready. It was quick. Then, I went back there, paid, and he handed over the car key back to me, and that was it. It was painless and the guy provided a great customer service. Also, the guy was super honest too. For the amount of time he charged for replacing the battery, he could've easily charged me 0.5 hour, but he was honest and only charged me 0.3 hours which he said was the amount of time it really took him. I was really impressed. I was really satisfied with his work today. And I will certainly go back to this auto repair shop if I ever need more car services. read more

I didn't have a great experience here at the shop. I was new to the area and I thought I should try out one of the oldest shops in Pleasanton. Jim and his staff were great and always on top of the stuff. Unfortunately, the troubleshooting didn't lead to the actual resolution of the problem. Pleasanton Auto Service & Repair still UNTRUSTWORTHY and shady at best! A family member had her car towed to Pleasanton Auto Service and Repair yesterday for a problem that seemed familiar to her last car trouble. The car had recently been taken to this mechanics shop not more than 4 months ago for spark plugs and distributor cap replacement. After some diagnostics, they reported to her that the distributor cap was faulty and was going to replace it only charging her labor to do so. John called her to inform her that the distributor cap was replaced and asked her if he could replace the brake lights, which were out, and offered to replace those, which she agreed to have done. When she went to pick up her car, she noticed that the gas tank had dropped from just over a half a tank to just under a quarter tank, and she was charged a ridiculous fee for the parts and labor to do a such a menial task as replacing a couple of bulbs. LAST TIME WE TAKE ANYTHING TO THIS MECHANIC SHOP, TRULY UNPROFESSIONAL TO SAY THE LEAST! read more

THESE GUYS ARE AMAZING!!!! My bf runs the pleasanton Pizza Guys and does alot of work with these guys. Him and his dad know alot about cars and the dealers in this area, and he specifically told me to only get my car seen here. He told me they are the only ones in the area that aren't going to rip you off, that they actually know what they are doing, and the customer service was top notch. My experience here was flawless, you arent going to shell out acouple grand only to go home and find that the issue was never fixed. As a female who knows nothing about cars, walking into any auto place is a daunting experience. I might as well have a sign plastered on my forehead saying "clueless and easy to screw over". I still brought my bfs dad with me but i wouldn't have needed him there like i would at any other auto place. They broke down everything, including the charges for each issue fixed. Not to mention they called me BEFORE they fixed my car to tell me how much it would cost me incase i needed to hold off on fixing it- which was just so considerate. Because he had other cars to work on i assumed i would have to leave my car for at least a few days- but no. i had my car back in less than 4 hours!! I hope i won't have to come back here soon lol, but if there's ever an issue with my car this is the only place in the area i would ever trust! I paid Pleasanton Tow to take my car there, so I was a "captive client" in some respects. 2. Fast. Jimmie-and-team identified the problem and fixed it within 48 hours. 3. Price. I don't know if my price was less than, equal to, or greater than market rate, but I was satisfied. 4. Hustle-Multitasking. BIGGEST rip off ever!! These guys tell you one price and then when they complete the job it's a whole other price!! The job was quoted to be $700 or less but when I went to pay the bill was $1050 for an oil change and a starter!! I called around and a new starter for my car was $280 I just wanted to get my car and get out of there. As I get onto the freeway I noticed my radio does not work. I called the owner and he said, "Duh I guess I forgot to enter a code." I WONT let that guy touch my car again so now I have to take the car to Honda and pay $180 to get the code to turn my radio back on. Don't waste your time or money going here! read more

I had a check engine light come on. My thought was it was smog related. Went here based on reviews of nearby auto services, they said they had an anayzer and said it was a dying battery only. They ended up charging $400 for something I could have done myself for $75. Within 3 days, the light came back on (delay is common when the system is reset). My dash board lights had been out for 3 days, I was driving to work with a flashlight to see what the speed was. I had spoken to two other mechanics, and needed to check and make sure it was not a fuse before going any further. The 2nd mechanic suggested Pleasanton Auto Service & Repair. It was late Friday afternoon, but I called to see if they could at least confirm it was not a fuse. John said go ahead and bring it by. I got there, within a short time they had it pulled into a bay. It turned out that I only knew about one of the two dash light switches (dumb), but Yea!! The previous auto repair had told me it was most likely not a fuse, that they would have to pull the dashboard. I had a "Service Engine Soon" light which I needed to clear before I could complete a smog check. these guys cleared it up for me by replacing a part quickly and for a really reasonable price. Then when I still had trouble getting smogged, they helped me out by checking my computer for sensors that were off and contacting a smog shop to figure out what needed to be done. Great people, great service! I went to PAR for a diagnosis of a problem in my car's engine due to negligent work done on it at another auto repair shop. John popped the hood, brought his tools and equipment and got to the bottom of it right there and then. He proved and showed me that the other shop's claims for my engine troubles was false. This, plus Jim's, John's partner, assistance in coming up with a fair estimate of the repair costs allowed me to favorably settle my claim against the shop that damaged my engine.
