With a name like Plonk, meaning very cheap wine, one might not have high expectations when coming here. Alternatively, the casual atmosphere and lack of pretensiousness is what makes this place so appealing.  Would highly recommend sitting on the upstairs patio, which at least in mid July when we were there, was lined with colorful flowers.  The food here is outstanding. We had the halibut, which came with a delectable potato puree and charred citrus infused greens. We also had the Wagyu steak, which my wife enjoyed immensely and thought the sides were original and tasty. The ceviche starter is plenty for 2 and had a nice amount of heat (it was the chef's take on ceviche so expect some nontraditional ingredients, but still good).  Despite the Plonk name, the wines by the glass we tried--savaugnion blanc, chardonnay, and grenache--were all quite good.  Service was good, although I will add that due to the open seating without a host/ess, we had to grab our own menus, and it took a little while for our server to recognize we had sat down.  Don't miss Plonk if travelling through Missoula. read more

This restaurant comes very close to 5 stars, however the bartenders arrogant attitude really turned us off the night we were there. My meal was delicious, except for the kale salad served with my main course...it was very bitter. But more than that was the bad attitude of the bartender...I will go back but will be served at a table this time. read more

Best meal in Missoula. Plonk's spring menu is well paired, perfectly prepared and delicious. It took them a quick minute to catch up to my expectations, but this season has swept me off my feat, graduating Plonk to the top of Missoula's most delicious food spots. Locally sourced when available, Plonk's simple, yet creative concoctions hit the spot and the caramelized sugar on their crème brûlée is perfection. Try the Burratta and Beets, the Land & Sea dish & the veggie pancake in the bottom right hand corner of the menu. Rumor has it that the rabbit is great too, but it seems to sell out quickly, so get in early to catch it. read more

I've eaten at Plonk previously and the food was great (chicken, halibut, bison short ribs, all desert) so thought I couldn't go wrong. The house salad was fantastic but the salmon entree was awful. Over cooked and the presentation and sides were disgusting. As noted in other reviews the service was mediocre at best. I'll go back because I've had good food before but wish someone had reviewed the salmon entree. Consider yourself warned- my friend is in the bathroom. read more

The food at Plonk is five star-worthy and the wine selection is lovely. My one complaint is that for an establishment with such great things to offer, it's not set up for a good dining experience. There are only a few tables that can accommodate more than two people. My husband and I stood and wandered around for a while before someone offered to help us find a way to seat our party of six. I tried 4 cocktails here: gin & juice, maker's ginger, salma hayek (a jalepno-infused tequila mojito), and anton chigurh (tequila-mezcal cocktail). I thought they were all really damn good. I was also impressed with the speed at which the bartender mixed these. For actual nutrition, I tried the harissa rubbed beef tenderloin skewers and the ploughman's platter (3 cheeses, 3 cured meats, bread, sliced apples, and condiments). The skewers were tasty, albeit small, but the platter was perfect for my above-average appetite. The ambience and is fancier than other places I've visited in Missoula and it's nice to change things up. read more

One of my favorite places in Missoula. The best Manhattans I've had in the area, with what look to be house-made maraschino cherries, an inventive cocktail list, and eclectic, perfectly prepared small plates and entries. I usually get their meat & cheese plate for an appetizer, which is a generous portion of interesting and diverse cheeses, spreads, sausages, and other meats. For entrees, the best ribeye I've eaten in Missoula came from Plonk (I think it was a special), and a salmon special I tried recently was very good as well. Been here several times and the food is consistently fantastic. Cocktails are great, too. The upstairs outdoor patio is a hidden gem in Missoula. We recently attended a winemaker's dinner and had an incredible experience. We got to meet Chef and the winemaker and the food and wine were incredible, as is the wine cellar downstairs. However, food never meets expectations. $26 for cioppiono containing 3 mussels, 3 clams, 2 pinky sized chunks of an uncertain whitefish, and a couple chunks of stale bread labeled as panzanella salad, all floating in the equivalent of Campbell's tomato soup? No thanks. Will go for delicious drinks, then dinner somewhere more satisfying. read more

In short. Not for the faint in wallet. Everyone who is anyone must try this place once, then they will be hooked. This place will exceed your every expectation. In long. The atmosphere is very warm, contemporary, and sophisticated. The wait staff is great, except for one lady who is way to arrogant about being a server for the past 20 years (the typical know it all, seen it all, can't tell me anything new type). The drinks are mind blowing. I have tried a large portion of the list, and I still have too many favorites. It is easier for me to tell you what drinks I avoid. I avoid anything with gin in it, but that is just because of my total distaste for gin. The food fits the build as well no complaints. read more

Traveling to Missoula on business and my work takes me all over the country. The previous reviews called out to me so I tried Plonk on that basis. Boy am I glad. This turned out to be one of the best meals I have had anywhere in the country. I started with a cocktail called the Even Keel l that was expertly constructed, bourbon, caps ramp antico and Campari very very interesting ingredients. The local braised bison short rib with corn pudding and green beans was extraordinary. Including a tempura green onion was inexplicably genius in the way it balanced the dish. The main course was so good, I decided to try dessert. The Mexican lava cake was wonderful however they could've used jalapeño sauce to offset the sweetness of the large piece of cake. ***WARNING*** If you like standing around and hovering like a vulture waiting to swoop in for the kill on a seat this is your place. It's first come first serve. Now with that being said, the atmosphere was bar setting very noisy so be ready to talk very loud. Staff was friendly but busy, don't try to strike up a conversation, but there were some good points. The drinks and food were excellent they arrived faster than expected with the over crowded placed. Priced at $15 to $35 per plate drink comparable to other bars. Our waitress was awesome and very knowledgeable of the menu. I will go again but during the week and hope it's not as crowded. read more

Plonk is the kind of place I wish I could say I've never been to based on the music that's playing when you walk in. It's a wine bar, and the best thing it's got going for it is that the prices are high enough to keep out broke rednecks and obnoxious college kids. Ok, this place was great! A dear friend suggested I come here when visiting Missoula a couple weeks ago. I sat in the bar, read my book, drank a wine flight, and snacked on food. I love the Gin and Juice! It's delicious! for the most part I've had friendly service there, I like the atmosphere and the drinks are good. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the music is so loud in there it's hard to have a conversation. So if the weather is nice and the patio is open that is the only place to enjoy a cocktail in my opinion. read more

This is a wine bar in Missoula. After reviewing the menu we decided to not order any food. The menu items are very expensive, and the portions looked rather small. All in all, the food just seemed overly pretentious. We instead had the three glass wine flight which was actually a good deal at $12. Unfortunately, the wine was very average. They had a Grenache and a Syrah, and I like a good Syrah. All 3 of the wines I would classify as something you could give to people who you weren't sure liked wine.
