Decent sushi place. We came here Wednesday 5pm and the restaurant was quite empty. Parking lots is both front (street parking) and the back of the restaurant. We got fried chicken, tuna rolls and katsudon. They are pretty good. Wish the spicy tuna roll had more crunchy. I'm not a fan of the salad sauce, the flavor is strange. This is the first time I had salad that is not ginger-carrot dressing in Japanese restaurant. Staffs are friendly. Price is about normal as other places. read more

We came on a Friday night around 5pm and the place was pretty dead, but I did notice there were lots of to go orders. We started off with house salad and the tempura appetizer (shrimp/veggies) which was decent and what you would expect. I will say that the house salad came with this huge glob of creamy dressing on top of the lettuce, and it was extremely unappealing but tasted decent. We also ordered quite a few rolls like the rock city, Florida, spicy tuna, yummy yummy and California. They came on a beautiful presentation and were very good. The one thing that was off putting was that I was found a few little white particles/hair looking things in the spicy tuna. Then I started looking around the restaurant and noticed that the place is quite dirty. For example, on a ledge above our table there was a clear plastic cup with seran wrap over the top just sitting there....and the blinds on the window were super dusty near our table. Also there was a vent under our table that was pumping out heat and burning my ankle it was so hot. Our server was very friendly and we had a nice experience but I can't get over the couple little white hairs I found in the spicy tuna and the place being icky. read more

Plum House is good stuff. They have a big menu with something for everyone, and the prices are really affordable. I picked up a to go order today with the Crispy Roll and Beef Negimaki. The Crispy Roll has tentasu, crab stick, cucumber, and seaweed. It was the perfect mix of crunchy and crispy textures. The Beef Negimaki (scallions wrapped in beef) was good too, though I would have preferred just a tad bit more sauce on top. My friends always had good things to say about Plum House. Unfortunately, I don't share their enthusiasm. My girlfriend and I finally went to check it out because we had a coupon for a free menu item (up to $12 value) after purchasing an item of equal or greater value. We arrived a little after 4pm and we were the only ones in the restaurant. The service was incredibly fast, clocking in around 25 minutes to receive all of our food. The miso and salad were pretty standard, the highlight definitely being the Ocean Wave sushi roll and then our entrees were rather disappointing. The chicken teriyaki and tofu teriyaki were nothing to write home about. I didn't mind the chicken, but the tofu was plain sad. It was completely mushy and the frying was peeling off, as if the tofu skin was coming right off. We have another coupon so I am tempted to return and try a noodle dish or donburi. I've been coming here for years because the fish is always fresh and the prices are fair. The rolls are creative, diverse, and prepared nicely and they also have a full menu of Japanese dishes. Since I'm allergic to avocado, they're always willing to accommodate by excluding it from my rolls. Besides all the sushi, I also recommend the udon noodles and goyza. I was so surprised by how much I liked this place, especially coming from California where the sushi is amazing. I've come here a few times and have always had great service. For appetizers, I've had the tempura which is pretty good and crispy and not too oily. For rolls, I've had the Rochester roll, volcano roll, and four seasons. All have been yummy! Well, it's the day before Thanksgiving and I wanted a little Asian food. So I noticed they had a discount on Uber eats for free delivery so I decided to give them a try. What a mistake that was. I've heard from friends about their subpar food but wanted to try it out for myself One positive- they had great to-go packaging The several other negatives include the steak in the steak teriyaki box, the tempura shrimp which seems like one cell of a shrimp, the seaweed salad, the dressing on the salad, and the miso soup. Sorry, did you get confused reading that?? It must be because I listed every aspect of the meal. Everything was poorly cooked, seasoned, or had a strange texture. The amount of items left behind that couldn't be eaten accounted for more than half of the meal. I also ordered a salmon roll and ended up removing the salmon because I was concerned based on the quality of the rest of the meal. Looks like I'll be going back to just passing this place right on by and recommend you do the same. read more

I like Sushi sometimes. In fact, Rawfish is my Nom-De-Plum. I like the California Roll, the Florida Roll, the Tuna Roll. The spicy mayo is good too, but I recommend asking for it on the side. Rather than allowing them to slather everything with it and then writing a lame negative review because they did. It's how they do things, and a lot of people like it that way. Wouldn't hurt you to ask for it on the side. I suppose they should check that in advance. I actually prefer mine on the side too. It's not the most amazing sushi I've ever had but it's affordable and it won't come right out the other end (and affect your interior Plum-ming in a negative way). read more

Plum House is a solid choice for Asian cuisine near where I live. I have ordered take out from here a handful of times and the packaging is always stellar. The salmon teriyaki is good and fresh. I think the fried appetizer that comes with it leaves a little something to be desired. The oil always taste just a tad old, but I appreciate the variety of veggies and shrimp tempura they give you. I love the salad and soup combo, a very filling decadent lunch if you're hungry! I think I'll update my review once I actually get an opportunity to dine here in person! The server was very amenable when I asked for low sodium sauce at the last minute, which I appreciated. The rolls, however, were below average. Some of the rice for salmon roll was hard like the rice was old and was sitting in the cooker for a while when rice is very important in sushi. The salmon pieces in salmon roll were minimal; you can definitely get thicker salmon pieces in a salmon roll from Wegmans. Well, this was our first and most likely our last visit to the Plum House...First off, we had a 5:30 reservation and our party got seated at 6:15...Next, we were seated into a corner section and although we had 14 people they made us give up 4 seats to people who were not in our group and made our party bunch up so close that we felt more like we were eating on an airplane rather than restaurant...Next the waitress dressed in a hoodie took our drink orders, my wife and her sister ordered a martini each, they had to ask three times where they were since everyone else had gotten their drinks prior to the appetizers being served...On the third time the waitress said she would make them herself and they weren't very good either...Next, we ordered our food and that was the next debacle of the evening...Simple stuff, steak, shrimp, scallops, chicken, the same fare wherever you go for Hibachi...The show begins on the grill, he wasn't bad, not great but not bad...He chopped and mixed all the meats together which if you're like me when you order the filet mignon you don't want pieces of regular hibachi steak mixed in with it, but that's what he did...Next the veggies were cooked into almost a mush like constancy, my portion was mostly onions, bean sprouts and a few zucchini pieces...Not good...My "filet of mignon" had sinuate running through it, my guess it was the tenderloin mixed in and not entirely filet mignon...I asked for med rare and got medium well...They forgot my brother-in-laws chicken portion altogether...Oh, I forgot to mention that all of our dishes from the appetizers and drink glasses sat in front of us for the entire meal on an already very shallow countertop...Again, the feeling of eating on an airplane was all I could think of...We never saw the waitress again until the bill came and was missing 7 of the dinners we had ordered, we had to tell them they screwed up the bill in our favor, but we don't screw people over, even a place like this who pretty much ruined a birthday dinner for 14 people...Granted this was a busy Saturday night but whoever takes the reservations should turn some callers away when service will be less than stellar...Usually, I would end most reviews with saying to "give them a try" but in this case, I would pass on this place and find another to spend $1000.00 dollars in. read more

The interior of the restaurant was revamped recently and looks nice. Sadly, the overall quality of the fish has definitely gone down. My husband still loves their specialty rolls but the excessive spicy mayo on everything isn't my thing. I recommend skipping the salad because​ the dressing is not appetizing (think slightly seasoned mayo). The rolls with actual pieces of fish (eg. Philadelphia, Long Island, Spicy Crunchy Hamachi) are much better the ones with minced fish (eg. Spicy Tuna). I still go as it's close by but proximity/speedy service are the only reasons I go. That and almost everyone I know hates how slow Sushi King is. read more

We also got the siishi for two and it was yummy but when we asked our server what it was(chef's choice) she stayed it was a "mixture" so no clue what some of it was. I love my sushi. And I've always had such an amazing experience here at Plum House. Came in with a bunch of friends for dinner and decided to get rolls. Noticed the specials of the day were "fresh oysters" and for $1.75 each, i said why not?! We all ordered our rolls and our waitress came back with the oysters. They were absolutely tiny. Very fresh but very small. One of two complaints of the night. Rolls were phenomenal as always. My recommendation is the Spider roll (soft shell crab) and ROC City roll (spicy shrimp roll). I also got the typical spicy tuna. I always like more spicy Mayo on the side and the accommodated that request without a problem! My other small complaint was the pickeled ginger was on crunchy as it usually is. But that was fixed by just asking for more ginger. Not a big problem. I definitely recommend this sushi restaurant if you want some of the highest quality in Rochester! read more

I haven't been to Plumhouse in a couple of years, however they did some remodeling. They added a water wall of some sort in the middle of the dining room, which makes it little narrower when walking into the dining room. They updated the bathroom fixtures. We went right after the dinner rush on a Friday, we ordered the amazing house salad, sushi, and I ordered the curry beef soba noodle soup. The sushi always taste fresh and the soup just delicious! One of the best Japanese restaurants in Monroe county! Side note: parking is very limited, you will have to park on one of the side streets. read more
